Found this place after a nice hike at Morgan Territory. Met all our needs...good food, good beer, good service plus outdoor heaters and it's dog-friendly. I had the Prohibition Ale (yum!) and the BLT with avocado. Fries were yummy too. Will definitely go back when in the area. First Time Here & Taste Buds Are In Love!!! I've frequented various eateries in downtown Livermore over the years, but last night was the first time coming here with a friend and IT WAS A HUGE HIT! Service, Cleanliness, & Food/Beer ALL WERE STELLAR! There were plenty of outdoor dining tables, a well as numerous ones inside; however, we opted to sit outside as there was a nice breeze so with The Pandemic still continuing, eating outside was ideal. Our waiter was R.J. and he had phenomenal knowledge of the Beers & Ciders, as well as main dishes (burgers, salads, & sandwiches) and desserts. Given the menus are not presented as pre-pandemic times, but instead a patron downloads them from a little image on the table, it was wonderful to have R.J.'s knowledge of the different dishes as he offered insight on flavors and some favorites with guests. He also was on-point with making sure our drinks never ran low and that we were enjoying the food as this simply showed his professionalism in making sure his guests were enjoying their time. He was a terrific ambassador for Hops & Sessions as a restaurant has to hit highs not just on food, but the service, and atmosphere. As for the food, we both had ciders as I enjoyed one with pineapple flavors and my friend drank one with hints of coffee. Iced water was automatically brought to our tables which was awesome as we didn't even have to ask! We each enjoyed cheeseburgers as I ordered The Mushroom Bacon Burger with white cheddar cheese, delectable Portobello mushrooms, mouth watering bacon and truffle mayo. I had the choice of picking a side, of which I opted for truffle fries, although I could have gone for a side salad, regular fries, tater tots, or chips. Regardless, I could tell upon the food being presented, I'd made the right choice! My friend opted for The Sessions Burger that was fully loaded with Gruyere and Bleu cheeses, arugula, caramelized onions, tomatoes and house aioli. As he had options of a side, he went for the regular French fries. Both of us were quiet once we began eating because the FOOD WAS SOOOOO DARN GOOD!!! SERIOUSLY. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was, but DAMN! R.J. came and checked on us he shared that the fries are hand-cut and made in-house -- WOW!! My taste buds were in Heaven! Yet the food-fun didn't end there as once done, we ordered a dessert, of which R.J. recommended -- The Churro Fried Ice Cream dish with churros. The presentation was pristine upon coming to our table, but again, my taste buds felt it was Christmas because of all of this OUTSTANDING FOOD! :D As for parking, there's plenty of free street parking as well as various free parking lots, and as it's on a corner, across from Sauced, it's immensely easy to find. It's a great location that fits anyone's needs -- family friendly as they have a kid's menu, but also great place for friends to gather, or a date night. Plus, they had two large TVs inside for those who may want to watch a sports games/Olympics, etc. Really, one cannot go wrong coming here as it has a welcoming atmosphere, clean, and great staff! They have 27 different beers and also 3 wines. Each pour is about $0.50 / ounce, so this place is pretty PRICEY! Each glass will cost you about $6 - $8 (depending on how full you fill it). I came here on a Friday night and this place was packed! It seems like they do allow kids here since I saw people bring their kids. Even though this place was crowded, we still managed to find a table to sit & to eat our food. ORDERED: * sweet siracha wings (12 wings / $16) - this tasted a little too sweet for me, I needed to add some salt & pepper to adjust the sweetness. It does taste like siracha so it is a little bit spicy. It is topped with some pineapples & tomatoes. It came with 2 sauces: blue cheese & ranch. I'd give this a 3.5/5 stars. * spire mountain - this was a cider beer, I really enjoyed this! If you like cider then you have to try this beer, it has passion, orange & guava flavors. * barrel aged sour - OMG so sour, I've never tried a sour beer before so this was definitely new to me. We came to Beer Baron after eating dinner a Sauced a few Saturdays ago in Livermore. It's a nice little place with 6 top tables and then you pull up a seat and are given a wrist braclet to wear that has a magnet or some type of device that you can put up to the beer taps and pour your own drink once the tap recognizes the magnet. They have about 30-40 taps I'd say to choose from, a bunch of descriptions of what types the beers are, then you use your same glass and go up and can pour whatever desired amount in your glass you'd like. There's TVs there on as well, it's a decent spot to lounge at with friends. read more

Hops and Sessions is a new brewery located in Downtown Livermore with a unique self serve concept. I went here, highly recommended, with a group of friends and they did not disappoint. For their food selection, Hops and Sessions serves much more than your average bar restaurant. They have a short list menu with great food and during my visit, I had their sessions burger with fries and their unique fried churro ice cream. It was great, high quality food in fair quantity. The fries were freshly made crisp and burger was made to satisfaction. To top it off, they had a single dessert menu that is a definite must. This is the only place I've had friend ice that's not greasy. In terms of their beer, they offer a wide selection of craft beers. I don't remember seeing any famous franchise beer offered so this was particularly appealing in searching for my beer preference. Also, their self serve model lends itself to the try and taste model. I did not have to deal with trying to get the bartender's attention in testing out various beers. In terms of atmosphere and service, Hops and Sessions is appealing to all crowds. During my visit, I saw bigger groups watching the sports on their televisions and I saw groups enjoying their kid's birthday with other families. Also, the service was prompt and quick. The tables were immediately taken care of despite the self serve model. And to top it all off, our server was truly entertaining. He was prompt, friendly, and spot on helpful with his service. To summarize, Hops and Sessions was a surprise spot with great food, great self serve concept of craft beers, and amazing atmosphere. The parking can be improved especially during the weekends but overall, they earn a rare five stars from me. read more

Never been to a place like this and it was pretty cool! Upon entering they give you a bracelet that you will use to scan at whichever beer you like. Once you scan, your beer pours into your cup. There's an allotted amount of ounces you can pour until you eventually use it all up and would have to go reload. My bf had used up all his ounces and thus could no longer pour. You could then check out or "reload" haha we decided to call it a night and my tab was about $15 and his was $40, once again he actually used up all his ounces. Anyway there are a lot of beers to choose from - IPAs- ciders- wheat- lagers- stouts- sours- wines They even have some grub! We ordered some wings, garlic fries, and the churros with ice cream. My wife and I were very eager to try this place out since it is in a great location near many of the other food spots like Sauced. The ambience is casual and I like the bench style seating. It's very open and sitting next to the window is a great way to people watch and still have some outside lighting shine through. The experience of the beer pouring by yourself can be a bit confusing but within a couple minutes you can figure it out. You get a wristband in the front and you put it up to the designated circles and you can poor your beer with the green light on. It's an easy way to try as many beers as you want since you are charged by the ounce. The food was pretty decent. Nothing jumps out at you and says, "I HAVE to try that!" But it's solid. The menu is not large which is simple and easy to go through. I recommend the fried chicken sandwich. Worth coming back again to get a few tastes in with some friends in town or just want to grab something quick before hitting the town or going to a movie. read more

Great new tap room in downtown Livermore. They have a wall of taps and you pay by the oz. It will run you about $.50 an ounce. You check in and get an electronic wristband that measures your pours. They have shared high top tables and standard tables as well. It is a family friendly environment and the menu had a decent selection. We got a spicy chicken sandwich and delicious fries. The down side was that the only way to see the beer choices was to walk up to the tap. It would be nice if they had a paper menu or chalk wall that you could scan while your at the table so you know what you want to try next. Overall, fun spot to check out. read more

Love this new joint! Im not a beer drinker and am trying to try a lot of beers to find some I like. So thought This would be a good place to try. The place is pretty new and was hard for me to find because there's no restaurant name on the outside of the restaurant. But I found it. When you walk in you check in at the front. You hand over your id and credit card and are basically opening up a tab. They register you and give you a bracelet to wear that's linked to your id and credit card. Then.. happy pouring!! The have sooooo many draft beers on tap!! And you can taste them all! They also rotate beers frequently which is cool too so you can try more! (We happened to be here on National Beer Lovers Day lol) Just remember you're paying by the ounce. I tried 4-5 beers and found 2 that I really liked!! Really cute spot with nice and attentive staff. Got the sausage sampler, fries, and a pretzel. The pretzel is HUGE and good for sharing. The beer cheese it comes with is very good but a pretty puny portion. The sausages were good and my favorite was the chorizo one, and I'll probably just get it in a bun with fries next time. The fries were just OK, nothing special tbh so I'll try the chips next time. My wristband quit working after only two half pours, and someone fixed it right away which was nice. Self serve water, accessible condiments shelf, and lots of clean glasses so you can get a new one for each pour which is nice. hope they expand the menu, rotate beers, and have some cool seasonal food specials so we'll be more inclined to show up often. read more

We celebrated birthdays here right before the shelter-in-place order, so I am writing this review based on our experience then. We were able to make reservations to host a party here easily through the phone. They were very accommodating and set aside the right amount of tables and chairs to host our party (about 25 people). Everyone got their own drink cards, but I put all the food orders on my card to make everything a little bit easier. Drinks were good (as always). They have something for everybody, whether you want a hoppy type of beer or a sweet cider. They have so many different beers on tap and everyone in our party seemed happy with their drinks. Their food is ON POINT. We ordered a bunch of different appetizer foods, like the big pretzel, wings, fries. All of it was delicious! It was perfect with the drinks! Overall, we had such a blast having our party here! Everyone that worked here was super nice and accommodating to us, even though we were a big party that was being loud. She took my order in front, didn't ask me what salad dressing I wanted and I didn't even think to ask - which isn't my job anyway. They automatically put ranch on the salad which is the one dressing my husband doesn't like. When he asked to have it changed her first response was "you ordered it like this". Which was wrong. Then came back with a side of thousand and the same salad that still had ranch on it! When he asked her to change the salad because he reminded her that he did not want ranch she proceeded to stare him down with attitude and walked away without a word. He gave back all his food after that and she had the nerve to tell him he was disrespectful. We complained to the manager but who knows how things were handled with that employee. Needless to say, we won't be back despite how good the food was. Even the male server was nice and apologetic and we do appreciate him. Too bad I didn't get the girl's name... she wasn't very nice to begin with but I brushed it off until she really pissed us off. It was an Asian girl with a mole on her cheek. Went here for the first time. I got a crispy chicken sandwich with tots. Super good. My buddies both got the Hops burger. Food was solid. My issue is beer prices. .57 cents an ounce for beer like 805 is too much. I'm sure rent isn't cheap but I can't pay 30 bucks for lunch. A burger and couple of beers shouldn't run that much. Great time hanging out here. I love the concept of not having to wait in line at the bar for a drink. When you walk in, you show the hostess your ID and card. She hands you a bracelet to use and it's as simple as that. Every time you pour a beer, it keeps track of how much you currently poured as well as total for the day. When you're done, you hand the front desk your wrist band and you check out. The atmosphere is nice with some standing tables, high tops, and bench seating. It isn't packed yet, but I'm sure once more people find out about this place it'll get packed. They have TVs to watch sports as well a few options to eat. Stumbled into this establishment while looking for a place to eat downtown. At first glance it looks a bit thrown together, one medium sized room, pretty plain with some stand up bar top tables and a couple rows of rectangular tall group tables. They have a few TVs scattered around the room up high above the windows that had no covering that I remember. It seems a little bright in there with a lot of natural daylight, not sure that's the atmosphere I was looking for but was really impressed with the beer selection that you get to pour yourself. My girlfriend being a wine drinker, had me ask at the host at the front counter as soon as we got there, if they had wine. The young man checking us in said yes, they had two different wines, I think a white and a red; we were like, cool! Got our wristbands and headed over to the taps, but to our disappointment, the wine was way overpriced. It was 6 and some change for a taste, 12 and change for a half glass and 24 and change for a full glass, whoooa, didn't know we were drinking Napa's finest! My girlfriend decided that she would drink beer seeing how it felt like a rip off to drink wine there, fortunately they had a lot of fruity beers and ciders. We started off with the twice fried chicken wings, they came promptly but were really dry with not much chicken on them, probably should've not been fried the second time, once would have been sufficient. Next, we ordered the giant pretzel with beer cheese. This was pretty good other than the cheese viscosity was a little off and both the pretzel and cheese could've been a little hotter. We moved onto the tater tot's with chicken, ranch, bacon and cheese and the pesto sausage pizza. The cheese on the tater tot's was just one big dried rubber pancake and there wasn't much chicken on there. The pizza was not bad, a little greasy but other than that pretty good. We got the churro and fried vanilla ice cream for dessert, had the churros not been stale this would've been delicious, but it was just mediocre due to the churro not being fresh. All in all with tip, the three of us consumed a total of 29 ounces of beer, which isn't much and came to $115. A little more than I want to spend for some bar food in a so-so environment. Seeing how it's a self pour service, I think the price could be just a little more competitive, especially the wine. The food either needs to get better or come down in price before I would think about coming back for lunch or dinner. However, I would come back for a couple beers and possibly the pretzel and cheese for now. Glad this place is here, it adds to the choices downtown. read more
