I'd been here before and liked it, so I made it my second and final stop for the day to get my ATX Ale Trail passport stamped and pick up a sticker. A cold WC IPA in a clean glass was just what the doctor ordered. In fact, it was just right and I ordered a pizza (knowing it wouldn't disappoint). It took a while for one of the bartenders to come over to me with two drink vouchers and an apology. "I am really sorry, man. I went to check on your pizza, and it was not fit for a dog. It was a little bit... you know..." I offered, "Over ambitious distracted cooks? No problem. I've been one myself more than once." The pizza finally came out after the poor cook's second try, and I decided to wash it down with a cold Pool Dad (this one is underrated, and for a Pilsner is very yummy!) I offered to pay with one of the vouchers, having realized that I got distracted myself when I ordered the pizza, and didn't leave much in the way of a tip, so I wanted to make it up. The same bartender served up the suds and said, "Keep them for another time. This one is on the house. Thanks for being cool." So like any sane beer-liking person being offered a beer on the house, I graciously accepted. But that still left me wondering how to make up for my chinsey tip. So I finished what I could of the perfectly crisp second-run pizza (5/5 highly recommend), and finished most of the beer and smiled, satisfied. "Could I get a growler of Pool Dad to go?" Tip problem solved. My poor tip prior got made up for, and I was feeling better about the world than when I walked in. We said farewell and I was on my way. My favorites have been the Buffalo Chicken pizza, the OG Pepp Talk, and the Build Your Own Calzone. Jeez, these have been spectacular. The Buffalo Chicken one I did risk it all on (with Lactaid of course) and I didn't get sick. What a delicious pie! Unfortunately, I have to knock one thing. The wings arrived undercooked and really disappointing for the price. I truly don't understand how they could be so rubbery -- they were worse than a fast food pizza joint. Some friends took us here for a birthday celebration, taking a chance because they'd never been…read morethere either. What a find! Rosé Gosé (note accents) is in an unassuming Airport Blvd location (right next to Jewboy Burgers, an Austin favorite). It is run by a couple from Belarus that came here right after Covid to open up a restaurant, with a sister in Minsk. Defying expectations, the menu is not Balkan at all. If anything, there is a strong Asian influence with poke bowls and a lot of seafood. But the menu also offers beef tartare on their raw bar menu, as well as a steak offering and grilled chicken. It's a diverse and adventurous menu, all the way from small plates to hefty mains and vegetable sides. For the dessert, try the pavlova, a meringue confection stuffed with coconut mousse and topped with lime sorbet and a grapefruit slice sidecar. Everything is superbly presented, and unquestionably fresh and healthy without veering into twigs and berries territory. The cocktail menu is also playful, with a lot of nontraditional glassware and slight spins on popular drinks; their version of a Paloma uses prosecco instead of a splash of soda. The servers are all dressed in rosé jumpsuits and very attentive. The space is amiable and elegant without being pretentious. The table spacing is a little close, so that conversations carry between guests. The table setting has some nice touches, like the little wooden bench that holds your fork and knife off the table. In European fashion, water can be asked for but it won't be served with ice. Plan on taking your time and enjoying course after course.

Rosé Gosé was a delightful Mother's Day lunch spot. It is a whole vibe, and it is uniquely French! When we walked in an artist was playing romantic music on his keyboard, which set the tone for the brunch. It is a small restaurant inside with a larger area of seating on the patio. Of course, our reservations were inside in the comforts of air conditioning. You immediately notice a wine wall hence the name Rosé Gosé. The restaurant has many windows which provide lots of natural light. The tables house miniature yellow roses and utensils sat in a small wooden block...very French. All the servers were dressed in mauve clothing that resemble scrubs from a hospital. If someone stepped out in a French beret, I would have fallen over. Our server, Sergey, immediately served us water and took our order. The restaurant was highlighted as a modern European bistro. The atmosphere was charming, elegant, and stylish making it ideal for a Mother's Day brunch. My hubby ordered a ribeye, eggs and French Fries. I ordered the avocado toast with salmon and egg whites. While I'm not a huge red meat eater, I tasted a piece of the hubs ribeye and it was nicely prepared. My avocado toast was yummy to the nth degree! Everything was perfect. The avocado was precisely cut and at the right level of softness. The salmon was chopped into tiny little squares and so enjoyable to eat. We could not be more pleased. With a name like Rosé Gosé you would expect their drinks to be superb. My hubby ordered a hibiscus tea, which was delightful. I ordered a mimosa that had high quality ingredients and was perfectly balanced...so smooth. We were also pleased with the drinks. This was the first time at Rosé Gosé, however, it definitely will not be the last.

My husband and I went to Hoover's yesterday for a lunch date. The food was great, and the service was good. Here's the reason we may not return. After ordering a tea and a water, we decided to share the chicken special, but when we ordered, (we decided to split the special at $12.?? and add on an extra salad for $3.??), the waiter informed us there would be a $2.00 charge for sharing. We have shared once before at Hoover's and ordered an extra side and were not charged an extra fee for sharing. I asked the waiter if we just got an extra plate and divided it ourselves if we would still be charged, he said yes. My husband and I and our two teens often share when we go out to eat at other locations like Chuy's, Threadgill's Hyde Park Grill, and Shady Grove. We do this not only to save a little cash, but to enjoy a variety of foods including dessert. We almost always order dessert or appetizers, in addition to our main course. I think it is very bad business to charge for an extra plate. We will not return unless this is corrected. We ended up ordering two entrees because by the time we would've added a side salad and been charged for an extra plate, it was about the same. (We would've paid for my tea and left, but were on a tight schedule and didn't have time to go to another location for lunch). Needless to say, half my plate went in the trash, because I cannot finish all that food, and feel like doing anything but taking a nap. Please consider changing this policy. P.S. We consistently tip 20%, so please do not explain an extra plate charge as an employee excuse. read more

Man, do I love Hoover's. There aren't too many restaurants in town that serve homemade southern-style cooking. Hoover's is one of the few, and the leader of the pack. Only other place that can compete is Dot's, and I haven't been back there since she moved to the new location after the old one burned down. Everyone I know who's been to Hoover's always compares any local chicken fried steak to the version served at Hoover's. It's the best! Their sides are to die for and the desserts are homemade. There's not much more I need to say about Hoover's. If you love southern cooking, you'll love Hoover's. Coincidentally, I work for Hoover's...but not the restaurant; the online business intelligence service. Whenever I tell someone I work at Hoover's, here's how the dialogue goes: Stranger: "You work at Hoover's? You mean the vacuum cleaner guys?" Me: No Stranger: "Oh, you mean the restaurant?" Me: No...the business intelligence service that's part of Dun & Bradstreet. Stranger: "Who?" It's nice to know a small locally-owned restaurant has more name recognition than the industry-leader for business intelligence that employs more than 400 Austinites. read more

For a place with such a reputation (and absolutely delicious aromas coming from the place) I expected better. I've eaten here twice and both times come away just "meh." First time I got the chicken fried chicken, or as it should be called the "humongous mass of batter with a little bit of chicken inside." Anytime there's a pile of fried junk on the side of the plate the size of my fist isn't a good thing. It was tasty fried junk though but I like my aorta as it is. Next time I tried the pulled pork sandwich, Monday special. It was tasty enough, but the bread was completely sodden with grease from the meat as well as butter and a mountain of pickles and onions. The bun was pretty much falling apart before I even picked it up, I ended up eating most of the sandwich with a fork. And the mashed potato side was so swimming in gravy I was doubting there even were potatoes in the dish. If you're interested in tasty meat that will clog your arteries, go for it, but I don't know about anything else. read more

I ordered the fried fish plate with macaroni and cheese and candied yams, plus sides of sautéed cabbage and honey butter cornbread. My total came to just over $44, so I was expecting to be impressed. After ordering, someone came to the window and explained that they needed to make more mac & cheese and it would take 45 minutes. I requested a refund for that side, but when I received my order, it was included in the bag anyway. The food looked appealing, but my first bite of fish, while crispy, was flavorless. The mac & cheese wasn't mixed well and lacked seasoning. The candied yams had too much allspice, the sautéed cabbage was bitter, and the cornbread was crumbly rather than moist. Overall, I was disappointed--especially after waiting over 30 minutes for my food, having skipped breakfast in anticipation of this meal. Based on other reviews, I can see they've served great food, but unfortunately, today just wasn't that day.

The catfish had a nicely seasoned and crispy breading and a good portion of food. I didn't end up using the, included, tartar sauce, because the seasoning alone flavored the fish perfectly. The sweet potatoes were very sweet and a little cinnamony. It was like a desert, served in a syrup as chunks of soft sweet potato, rather than as a mash. Good alone and paired with the fish. The location is a hole in the wall window in a gas station. Be prepared to wait in line, but you'll be glad you waited. Looks like they're best known for their chicken and fish, but they have daily specials and I noticed they have other items, like pork chops and meatloaf.
