We tried the tuna nachos, the po' boy special, and the chipotle burger. The nachos were amazing...just the right balance of flavors with a hint of sweet spice I hadn't noticed before. The burger was smoky, charred to perfection, and my husband couldn't get enough of his sandwish (he actually admitted he loved the food this time!). Fries weren't quite what I remembered, missing a bit of that crunch and sweet-salty punch. Service was friendly and attentive, checking water and offering boxes at the right moments. The mix of punkish edge and rustic charm makes it a great spot for lunch or dinner with friends or family.

***3 1/2 stars***…read more It's been years since I've been over here for a meal, so this was the first time I've been by under the rebranded Nova. I really liked Blue Fish and its seafood-centric menu; the menu still has a number of seafood items, but most of the edgier ones have been sacrificed in place of more Asian/Tex Mex cuisine. It's definitely not bad, but I thought it was a cut below the original Blue Fish and my takeaway was that they kind of messed with a good thing. I came by here this past Saturday afternoon (3:30ish) with my OG chums. This little spot in Flemington is pretty cute, even in the dead of winter - there's a lot of edgy artisan-focused shops and a really nice coffee shop next door. The interior of Nova is...hard to describe. I'm honestly not trying to be offensive; it's technically nice, but just devoid of personality. An acquaintance of mine bought a 19th century house and then took out everything interesting and modernized it - it was reminiscent of that. There's just not a lot of character to it, which is surprising if you've been in any of the other nearby businesses, because they really hammer home the historic origins of this building as a ye olde factory. Feels like a real missed opportunity for a more unique dining experience. I was hoping to hear some edgy specials involving some of the less-mainstream fish, but the one entree in that vein was centered on cod, which I'm pretty ambivalent about. As a result, I opted for the ala carte section of the menu and selected the grilled salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and wasabi aioli. Not bad; a solid helping of everything, with a well-seasoned piece of salmon. Really the only mild issue was the presentation value; as you can see in the attached picture, it's pretty barebones and could have used a garnish or something. But that's just a nitpick and arguably not even an issue. The service was very good. Our waiter visited regularly and was particularly attentive about refilling the drinks. This was a quick meal, and that's a tribute to the turnaround time from ordering to receipt of the food. This wasn't a negative experience by any means, but by very publicly declaring its affiliation/ties with the prior Blue Fish brand, to me it was just pointing out the selling points of the previous restaurant that aren't here anymore.

Food and service are outstanding. The selection is fantastic as well. My only reason for giving 4…read morestars rather than 5 is because of the pricing. Basil Bandwagon is overpriced for their deli and many of the items they carry. At the same time it is very good quality stuff, just pricing is my only "complaint" so to say. I realize this is a very wealthy area, and Basil Bandwagon does put out some coupons here and there which is appreciated. It is certainly more of A $$$ store than $$ in which I think they would still be profitable, yet a bit more fair. In any circumstance if you're looking for good quality, very healthy stuff it is a great spot to try out. Also the portions on most things at the deli counter are very nice with their sandwiches. Staff is also very helpful & knowledgeable.

I learned that Basil Bandwagon has been open for 25 years. The year they opened, I was eating cold Pop Tarts while running to catch the school bus at 6:55am. In those days, fat-free was all the rage and considered "healthy" -- never mind all the refined carbs, loads of sugar, and preservatives. These days, I'm a strict vegetarian who is mostly vegan. I cook a lot and eat fresh produce daily. I appreciate that BB offers a healthy alternative to basically all the crap fast food otherwise available in the area. We ordered a wrap from the cafe and decided to eat it there. The seating was a counter with a few bar stools but it was clean if not spacious. My husband and I shared the "Freebird" wrap -- tofu-based mock chicken, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, and vegan mayo. It came with potato chips. Wow, this was so good! Clean tasting, hearty, and delicious. I was so impressed with it that we grabbed a prepackaged wrap from the cold case to take on the plane with us. We also picked up a few other vegan sandwiches which were okay tasting but overall too dense and heavy. Next time, I'll stick with the housemade items. I do find it a little annoying that BB doesn't seem to carry as many vegan items as they do things that are "paleo" and gluten-free. I also find that some of their food items are so outrageously overpriced that you'd be better off hunting around at the local grocery stores instead of purchasing them here. The next time I'm in town, I'll be there to order another yummy item from the cafe. Thanks Basil Bandwagon for catering to us "healthy" folks looking for something tasty and satisfying to fill our bellies.

The restaurant is tucked behind a Walgreen's and proximate to an urgent care on a side street off Rt 31, so that might explain it. We arrived for dinner on a random Thursday. The dining room is large, clean, bright, and had a lot of empty tables, but few patrons. They have a take-out business and it was sort of rainy outside, so that explained it in my head. The server came right away and took our beverage orders (it's a BYOB and I still can't get used to that concept). We ordered our meals after our drinks arrived. I like to keep it simple on a first visit. If you've seen my other reviews, it sorta makes sense. I got the linguine, with mushroom sauce and meatballs. It gives me a chance to see if the pasta is boxed or not, how fresh the ingredients are, the taste of the sauce, and if they can make a decent meatball. The linguine was made in the kitchen from scratch and the mushroom marinara was delicious. The meatballs are amongst the best I've had in the area, including two NYC Little Italys (Manhattan and Bronx). The salad was fresh and crisp and the bread came out warm and delicious. It's a bit of a drive from Clinton, but I am going to try their pizza at my next takeout opportunity.

Our waitress offered to get more pita and we were charged $7 for 2 pitas...seemed excessive. The mixed grill arrived with tiny plastic cups of tahini and tzatziki.. Small like a tablespoon each. The food was lukewarm. The chicken was so dry that I had to send it back. The next batch of chicken souvlaki was a little better but again not hot. The rice was not warm either. I had originally made an 8:00 reservation through Tock since the show was scheduled to run until then, but we left after the trophies were awarded around 7:00. Matt's was able to accommodate us nearly an hour early. Matt's is located inside what feels like a historic home, with several dining areas including one reached by stairs immediately after entering. It was busy when we arrived, although by around 8:30 there was plenty of seating available. The tables are fairly close together but not so close that you feel crowded, and the noise level was moderate. We could easily have a conversation while occasionally overhearing the owner explaining the origin of the restaurant's name. I started with the Rooster House Salad, which was very good. It had just enough honey-sherry vinaigrette without overpowering the marinated vegetables. For my entrée, I had the Prime Hanger Steak medium rare. It was cooked properly, and I particularly liked the accompanying horseradish steak sauce. My wife started with the Rustic Wild Mushroom Soup and had the Fire Roasted Shrimp Pasta for her entrée. She enjoyed both. The pasta had at least half a dozen good-sized shrimp and was a large enough portion that she brought some home. Matt's is BYOB, but I managed to leave our bottle of wine at home. They also offer a selection of local Unionville wines by the bottle, with half bottles available for some selections, so we ordered a half bottle of Unionville Cabernet Sauvignon. Service from Dave K. was very good. My wife almost left her leftover pasta behind, and Dave actually ran outside to catch us before we left. We've consistently enjoyed our dinners at Matt's, and this visit was no exception. Being able to accommodate us well ahead of our reservation and Dave making sure we didn't leave without our leftovers were particularly appreciated.
