This place has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and great location. I would also like to highlight the stars of the show which were their mojitos and their endless chips and salsa ( pico de Gallo... Not salsa) . These were super delicious and I would highly recommend them. Unfortunately we also decided to try their taco salad and it all lacked a ton of flavor. Which is what would have made this a solid four starts establishment to only a solid place for drinks and chips and lounging. I would be weary to try some of the other food. read more

This place initially struck me as a dive, but since it was in walking distance of our hotel and had Mexican fare, we decided to give it a try. We chose to avoid the wait and eat inside. The interior design was much brighter and more comfortable than I would have imagined. A little on the loud side, due to the fact that the bar takes up a third of the interior dining area, but it was a lively and fun atmosphere filled with "laid back beach music". The mixed drinks were creative and in the $8-$10 range. Steak & veggie tacos were delicious! The Coconut Dream dessert, as I think it was called, was awesome! Grilled pineapple and mango over two scoops of toasted coconut ice cream with caramel drizzle. Our server, Gillian was very attentive. She definitely had many tables to take care of, but it didn't diminish her level of service. read more

Went there on a Tuesday night in July when we were absolutely starving because every other restaurant between Kennebunk and Hooks on Rt 1 was impossible to get into. We spotted it from the road and were thrilled to get easy parking and a quick table. Everything on the menu sounded great but some in our party were put off by the lack of potatoes on the menu. It's definitely not a steak and burger place - which is ok. We all had the clam chowder while we waited for the gigantic nacho appetizer to arrive. We loved the chowder and the nachos. Some of the best of both that I have ever had. The only issue was that the chowder was luke warm. Actually not an issue when you are as hungry as we were but an unfortunate sign of things to come. We all had some version of their tacos with assorted sides - the $4 per item sides menu is very appealing. We had noticed the table nearby with four guys obviously enjoying the macaroni salad so we really wanted to try that. When the tacos arrived we each noticed that the meat portion was also luke warm. The tacos sounded good but in reality had too many toppings and the temperature was a huge turn off. The prices were good - you can get a variety of tacos in quantities of 1, 2 or 3 with one side with corresponding prices. Sadly, the macaroni salad was dry and felt like a bad choice to accompany my steak taco. Others had the rice and beans and enjoyed them but felt that the beans were super salty. Overall, the reasonable prices prevented us from complaining. The best parts of the meal - the chowders and nachos were a mixed bag. The cups of chowder were like $5 each and were small but tasty portions. The nachos were huge but pretty expensive for chips and cheese with a dollop of crema and guac. $16 is enough to make you think twice but they were one of the highlights of the meal - probably because of the sriracha mayo drizzled over them. The waitress was sweet and hard working. A live guitar player was there and provided a nice background in a pretty cool place with a Key West meets ski resort vibe. So, in conclusion, great price for most of their menu items. Great service. Cool vibe (completely open to the air with a few roof areas and walls). Just don't expect perfection and you will be fine. read more

DON'T EAT HERE!!! This place has the worst service and management I've ever experienced in my entire life. I ordered the salmon with the balsamic glaze. When it came to the table it smelled insanely fishy and when I tried it it was definitely off. So I sent it back and I said can you please just take this off it's very fishy and I really am not able to eat it. (When I sent the dish back it was a full plate of food as I didn't eat any of the vegetables and only had a small piece of the dish to confirm that it was fishy, and not just a smell around me from another table) the server took it away asked me if I wanted anything else, but I didn't because the smell and the taste really just put me off to eating anything else. When the bill came the salmon was still on the bill. Keep in mind this is a $20 entree. I told the server about the charge and she said "yeah I talked to my manager and she refused to take it off". To which I said I'd like to see said manager. The manager comes out and says to me I hear you didn't like the fish. I said it wasn't that I didn't like it the fish was incredibly fishy and off. She says well we all tasted it back there and salmon is a very oily fish and it's fresh we got it yesterday so there is nothing wrong with it and I can't justify taking off a $20 entree just because you didn't like it. (Excuse me I thought that you're in the customer service industry whether or not I didn't like it I didn't eat it it shouldn't have been on my bill) to which I said so you're telling me I paid for you all to eat my food back there. She laughs and says no that's not entirely true. Yes absolutely that's true you ate all of it and now you're telling me I have to pay for it. I tell the manager that I eat salmon all the time. The reason why so many people like salmon is that it's not a fishy fish. Yes it does have more oil running through it but that's because it's high in omega-3 fatty acids just because of fish is oily like tuna is oily does not mean it should taste fishy in any way. The rule of thumb is that if your fish smells of anything other than Salt Water it's bad. My boyfriend could see that I was getting incredibly upset so we chose the manager listen she didn't eat it, anything you could do to help us out in this situation would be greatly appreciated the manager rolls her eyes and says I'll see what I can do. The server not the manager brings back the check and the manager gives us $5 off. What was the point seriously what a slap in the face. If you want to be treated well and you want good customer service don't eat here because God forbid something is wrong with the food and you send it back you'll still be paying for it. Thank God I didn't take the server up on getting something else when she asked me if I wanted anything else because I bet the manager would have charged me for both dishes. Literally the worst customer service I have ever experienced and probably will ever experience. Last time I checked you wouldn't have the business if people didn't come in and eat. I'm going to close this was saying I work in a five star restaurant and if any person at my table for any reason didn't like something they ordered I would either get them something new or take it off their bill because that's what you do in the customer service industry that's how you keep people coming back to your business. Went to Hooks restaurant yesterday. Very limited menu........not even French fries or a hamburger. The chicken and steak burrito's were very tasty. We order a roasted corn salsa for an appetizer and it was tasteless. Came in a small plastic container with no serving spoon or serving dishes. Most of it ended up on the table. They should have a better selection of seafood, "HOOKS" is the name of the restaurant! They only had a "catch of the day" sandwich which was Mahi Mahi and Talapia taco's. We are in New England in Maine..... where was the haddock or cod? $18.00 for a fish dinner was absurd. Hope someone from the management reads this and makes some changes. It could be a great place as it has plenty of outdoor seating and on a beautiful day it is quite nice to eat outside. Expand the menu......not everyone wants rice and beans, roasted corn or asian slaw for a side. Offer some kind of potato, New England fish & chips and a hamburger or hot dog for kids. read more

Love the atmosphere, super cute outdoor patio with plenty of sun and shade spots. The bar was busy on a Sunday afternoon but we didn't have to wait for a table. The service was friendly and efficient and our waitress seemed knowledgable on their limited menu. We ordered the taco salad with steak (12$) and the endless chips and salsa (4$). The taco said was more than a little disappointing, but the salsa (which is really mild pico de gallo) had a great flavor and we wished we had just stuck with that! We also ordered a bumbleberry (combo berry) and pineapple mojito and both were very delicious. I would highly recommend hooks for a snack and a drink, and maybe happy hour! read more

It's an outdoor patio with an outdoor grill, so if you don't mind a fly or mosquito or the sun shining on you, you'll be ok. Lots of very fair priced menu options. Clean and kid friendly. Within 5 mins of each other, a party of 8 and a party of 15 walked up and actually expected to be immediately seated, so if you're a big group you may want to call and give a head's up instead of throwing a tantrum. read more

I checked it out at happy hour. I loved the atmosphere not busy but it looked great. I was told there was music most nights and thought I would come back for some same night. I had a maine beer and two others. The price was more than twice what I would have paid at one of the local name places in the area. This place is the spot!!! We came in around 8:00 on a Thursday night very hungry, and joked to the bartenders we were starving. After ordering our food and getting our drinks, the bartenders kept us happy by giving us a small portion of a smoothie that was left over from the blender. Then they even brought over chips and salsa on the house! The drinks were amazing and food was right up there too!!! My wife and 14 year old daughter had dinner at Hooks last night. I had the lobster tacos. They were fresh and really tasty and I felt an excellent value. My wife had the Fish (Mahi Mahi) Pinchos skewers. Again cooked perfectly and tasty. The corn salsa could use a little more flavor but was very fresh and healthy tasting. I don't agree with the previous poster that a burger and fries needs to be on the menu. It would be out of place with the theme of the restaurant. We chose this eating establishment based on the recommendation of a local inhabitant and we weren't disappointed. The coconut haddock was cooked to perfection and the accompaning grilled vegetables were cooked just right. The rice and beans were perfectly flavored with cilantro (I'm going to try that at home). Our waitress, Cassie, was professional and attentive and immediately made us feel welcome. It's a fine art to be attentive to customers yet not intrusive and she has mastered her craft perfectly. I don't know why there are so many average and/or negative reviews about this place. I'm a foodie & I'm usually disappointed with restaurants in a tourist area more often than not, however, Hooks won me over with their outstanding wait staff, fresh seafood (coconut haddock) and excellent drinks. Yes there is a wait time for receiving your food, and yes the food could be a bit hotter, however, considering how busy they they are, they do a great job! To folks who haven't been there, bypass the so-so reviews and give it a try, I can guarantee you will enjoy it, just make sure you have time to hang out and relax. We really liked coming here, & usually come & pay full price. Its always super ridiculously crowded & hot. Last night we came early for happy hour. We ordered tacos & margaritas which were $4.00 between 4-6. We asked waitress " can you make those skinny?" & she said sure. When bill came it was $77.00 for 4 of us "happy hour" meals & drinks! Turns out "skinny" margaritas were $10 each (tiny too), but we weren't informed that. Waitress seemed not care the least so we asked to see-manager. A girl that looked like a teenager, maybe early 20's came out & said basically "well, thats the price." Well, ok, but inform people that when ordering! Manager also said "well, tacos were good & good price, right?" Lol!!! Well....i guess... i got veggie tacos were basically lettuce & a wrap, so...thanks "manager" for being of zero help.
