    Honolulu chicken bowl

Came here on the last day of the season because everything was 50% off. It was a great experience. All the food was delicious, as were the drinks. We even ordered some drinks to go and cake! The food was also super delicious, but I do wish my tuna bowl had a bit more flavor. I got bored with it after a bit. However, everything else was amazing. Keep in mind that the entire restaurant is basically outside so it can get chilly depending on the night. They do have heaters though! Staff was amazing as well! I'll be back next season :)

Last stop on our tour de Maine. We stayed in Ogunquit our last night and after hitting the beach, we grabbed late night eats on the patio at Hooks. It was a busy Sunday night, the restaurant was pretty full, but we were seated right away. We had a hard time deciding, but didn't want anything too heavy. I opted for tacos. Our server said 2 was the sweet spot, so that's what I ordered. One fish and one shrimp. She gave us a pro-tip, order the guacamole side, as it was a very generous portion (and she convinced hubs to get the side of chips with his meal - well played). My tacos were underwhelming. I ordered them street taco style, and they were minimal at best. My BFF ordered the beef & shrimp, and I missed out on the picked onions & other fillings. Hubs ordered a salad bowl, and the portion was generous, very filling, he only ate half. The side of chips helped us devour our sides of guacamole. The guac was good, but could have used more kick and a bit of salt (which was not on the table, and we didn't bother asking for). We enjoyed our meal and the laid-back casual atmosphere. We'd visit again if ever in the area, and we do hope to come back, as we fell in love with Ogunquit.

Recently was in the Maine coastal area and ate at Hook's Chill & Grille which is very much up my alley... FRESH food and ingredients, very outdoors laid back Caribbean vibe. I was happy with the menu selections and grabbed myself a salmon bowl, while the person I was with grabbed a shrimp bowl! Very delicious and super fresh quality!! This is another place you might not stop if you didn't know it was there. It blends into the attached surf shop to its front so it's a hidden gem for sure!! They close this weekend for the season, so try them out if you're around until the 14th!! The coast and lakes region is closing... it's October!!! Our server was such a nice guy, very laid back but attentive!!! Definitely like this spot with a healthy approach to great tastes!!

Lovely indoor-outdoor bar and grill, tons of seating in open air, covered patio area. Beautiful set up for lunch in a chill environment. Bar staff was extremely friendly, fun, and knowledgeable about the menu. Ask for Marcie, she's the best! Menu is a lovely selection of local fare and cooked to perfection. I ordered the Ahi tuna, pineapple salsa and guacamole. Tuna was beautifully blackened, lovely medium rare inside and packed with spice! The pineapple salsa was fresh, crispy, with bright flavors. The guac was chunky, delicious and could easily be eaten alone. Talk about a fantastic trio for lunch. Swing by, snag a chair at the bar and get ready for some delicious food.

Went again for our annual trip. Loved it as usual! Menu was a little different but we loved the changes. Vibe was great as always. Seated a table of us 6 people, in no time. We shopped next door until they texted me. Service was super as always.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Hooks! I've been here quite a few times with family. This is predominately an outdoor venue with the bar giving it a ceiling and half indoor. Hmm did I explain that correctly... I guess you just have to check it out. Some of the tables will accommodate larger group maybe 6 and then some smaller too. Certain days of week they have music too. DH and I ordered Build your own Trio $16 appetizer which is nacho chips and a choice of 3 cups of dips. We got roasted corn, salsa and guacamole. It was so good. Then I had Quesadilla with chicken, peppers, onions & cheese and it was grilled which made it very Yummy. $15 DH had Mojo Pork Sandwich pulled pork topped with slaw and pickled onion. Served on bun $12 2 Happy Hour Margarita's $5 each and Harpoon rec league beer $6 Next door to this restaurant (I think it's part of it) is a great clothing store has summer shirts, sandals summer clothing so before you leave check it out!

The warm lobster roll is to die for. The frozen drinks not that great. Maybe their blender needs a fresh but the ice was all melted.

The seafood was below average but I enjoyed their fried fish options. Oysters were full of shards and I've had way better pretty much everywhere else. Service is decent, but maybe below average for the amount of workers they had on the floor in comparison to the amount of people that were actually dining. It's also a bit ridiculous that they haven't fixed their menu issue. There's going to be wind at the beach, maybe find a way to not have menus fly out into the ocean pretty much every 5 minutes? The menus are also laminated, so they just sit there to not rot and instead pollute the area. I suggest having some sort of hole puncher and a binder ring to give it weight and perhaps anchor it to something because the issue is getting out of hand. Not the best way to have a beach-side restaurant.

We arrived without a reservation and were told there would be about an hour wait. The host came across as a bit snarky, although he did offer us seats at the bar, which we appreciated. After being seated, it took about 30 minutes before anyone took our order, followed by another 40 minutes before our food arrived. The bartenders were working incredibly hard and were clearly doing everything they could to keep up with the rush, so I don't fault them at all. Unfortunately, one of our meals arrived cold and was extremely over-salted. The restaurant refunded that dish without hesitation, which I appreciated, but it shouldn't have left the kitchen that way in the first place. From what we could see, the kitchen was seriously backed up and the overall operation wasn't being managed well. The staff deserved better support because they were hustling nonstop while trying to deal with unhappy customers. I hope management addresses these issues because the employees are putting in the effort. With better kitchen execution and smoother operations, this could be a much better dining experience.

I'd been coming here for at least 20 years, and in recent years it had been a favorite spot to eat outside when traveling with my dog. But now, we are not allowed to eat outside with a dog. Instead we had to order to-go and then walk down back to a 'dog area' which is a spot to the left of the building, below the parking area with one picnic table and some chairs in the woods. It was a beautiful sunny day, but we were getting eaten alive by no-seeums, which is not a nice experience when paying $100 for 1 meal with 6 scallops, 4 small pieces of fried fish, fries and slaw, an order of onion rings, a small clam chowder, and 2 beers. And $50 for a small lobster, an ear of corn, and an iced tea. I get that this is a tourist area, but $12 for a beer in a plastic cup and a $7.50 up charge for 6 scallops while being banished to a buggy spot that made eating very uncomfortable is a big no thank you for me. Crossing this place off my list, sadly. The upgrades and changes to this place are not a bonus at all. I'm sad that a place I always felt was friendly and welcoming is now overpriced and we all felt like we were being treated as second class citizens.

We sat at a table by the window on the first floor. We overheard that there is an upstairs bar, not sure if they also seat folks for dinner there. We were able to place an order right after getting settled. We enjoyed the Sun mocktail, charred beet salad, mac and cheese, fried codd sandwich, steak frites, and corn ravioli (without the pancetta). My spouse is gluten free and I am vegetarian so we are always looking for restaurants that can accommodate both. The charred beet salad was good but I think dressed a bit too heavily. I thought the corn ravioli and sun mocktail were both great. The kids (ages 1.5 and 5) liked the Mac and cheese and fried cod sandwich. They did not have any appropriate booster seats for the 1.5 year old so my spouse held him. My spouse loved the steak frites but I think wished had a few more "frites" given the amount of interest from the younger crowd. Our waiter was wonderful and also brought some orange slices from the bar for the kids. We were very grateful. We decided to go nearby for ice cream after dinner, but I heard there is a dessert menu.

Gosh, you just hope you made a memorable choice for the right reasons. We did - we both felt we not only received value for our dining dollars, we felt cared for by the staff and satiated by the kitchen. People like sitting outside - so the reservations reflected that and we could only be seated inside. Was not a disappointment to be seated inside. I highly recommend this restaurant. I had a steak sandwich and my dining partner had a chicken sandwich. Both were really tasty and well prepared. We only had water to drink and that was not a problem. I feel many times if I don't order an app or a drink a server becomes less friendly. That wasn't our experience here. I don't believe in over rewarding a place - but I feel a 4.5 out of 5 is appropriate. Since I can't give that - I rounded up to 5.
