We added solar to our house when we moved in in 2015. New to California, we thought if the responsible and logical thing to do. I'm not sure that we've actually saved any money, but I'm glad my money is going to SunPower and not PG&E. This last winter our system went out. It took several phone calls to reach someone who could/would address the issue. At that point, we were told it would take 4 months before someone could come and do the repair! During which time, we of course were not generating any solar power. The result was a $1200 PG&E "TrueUp" bill. SunPower said there was nothing they could do to compensate us until their annual review of our usage which occurs in October. After which it would take an additional 6-8 to process any credit to our account. We're still waiting to see if they follow up with any compensation :( read more

Hooked On Solar hooked up a residential solar system to an old electrical system at my house for a cost of $21,875. I also financed a battery system with Hooked on Solar, the two transactions separated only because Hooked On Solar forgot to include the battery in the originally financed package. Hooked on Solar installed my solar panels and battery system sometime in 2021. I noticed that in June 2022, the system performance was in decline. In January 2023, hooked on solar turned off my solar system entirely with no explanation. I contacted Hooked On Solar multiple times thruout the year, only to find out that the system was not green lighted by PGE after the solar panels were installed. I had an electrician do an all around upgrade of my electrical system in which the hub was moved away from the gas meter. Hooked On Solar then sent an addition invoice for $2700 for "Labor and Parts for moving loads back to hub+" in November 2023, and then asked me to get my electrician to give a competing quote. My Electrician complained that this was a service gap that Hooked On Solar had created and they need Hooked On Solar to finish the job before they come in again. I complained to Hooked On Solar that as State Licensed Contractors, they should not have proceeded with the original hook up to a non compliant system, and that this second invoice to "move loads back to hub" is a cost that I am only comfortable paying upto 50%, because Hooked On Solar made the problem worse by not inspecting the permitability of the system they were hooking into in the first place. System has been off since January 2023. I paid more than $30k for the solar panels plus battery, and have not had normal use of the system since June 2022. read more

SunPower prices are very competitive Our sales person, Claudette had a good understanding of solar placement, PG&E constant changes and rebates that where available to us. The installers where very respectful of our property and answered all our questions. Brianna was helpful with scheduling and contact question. The app is very easy to use and we are very happy with the end results! read more

Michael Blase and team were great! Installed the right amount of panels for my 3 bedroom house in Lincoln. Reasonably priced and friendly service throughout the process! will be returning when I need more panels! Thank you! read more

I rarely leave reviews and rarely leave great reviews. System spec is 18 Max 380 watt panels, new roof, and 1 Tesla Powerall 2. Truthfully, everything went on without a hitch. Roof was done with a partner called Above All Roofing out of Campbell, CA. Roof was fine, the corners were unfinished meaning there the corner is triangular but the left the square piece over hang. Didn't like that, but I just bent it in place. Re-stuccoing wasn't great, but it can never look original after original stucco from 1941. Overall flashing was ok around the chimney and all was the heat reflective shielding. Passed Inspection. Panels looked great. I hurt my ankle before the rain so I haven't had a chance to do a thorough inspection yet for leaks, so I will update this review when I have done so. The panels look neat and tight and where it should be. Also installed the Tesla battery through them I finally got the install in today and tomorrow is our final. It literally took Tesla 9 months to deliver. HOS was so good to fix their issues because the conduit team didn't leave enough room for the battery team to hang it. All got fixed and I suddenly want them to pour concrete whereas original plan was to just mount on wall. I wanted to have them pour concrete so in the future I can easily mount a 2nd one on top. They did that and it looks great. Hats off to my rep Michael Blaise who really walked me through each step and was always quick to respond. Nick and Josh the Tesla battery team was great! the 9 month journey which was 6 months longer than expected is finally complete! read more

After several years of research been dealing with many different solar companies and just not really being too impressed and being very gun shy to do solar for my own personal reasons. We finally found Hooked On Solar. We got a hold of Joel he what's our first point of contact and that was a pleasant experience right off the bat. He scheduled all appointments around our schedule. We met with him via zoom on a Saturday. He explained everything in great detail and answered all of our additional questions that we had subsequent from our meeting. He helped us through the whole process picking out what we're best for our needs. We still had some questions regarding contractors license and such and as we were doing our due diligence. I went to reach out to the owner Chad, this was on a Saturday late afternoon he answered his private cell phone, answer all of my questions and I just found that to be really a great way to run a company. It was very reassuring that he didn't act like we were interrupting him. He answered all of our questions that was very impressive. That is what did it for us when Chad answered the phone and his whole attitude towards our phone conversation was what really made us feel at ease. Then to go even further all of his crew from beginning to end have been amazing! Danielle she called made appointments set things up constantly fielding questions from me and my husband we really just have had a lot of questions. Rodney the project manager set everything up seamlessly. Nick set up our appointments timely if something couldn't be done he communicated why, then followed up when he said he was going to follow up making sure the project was done when we wanted it to be done by. Then James and his crew came out and did the installation that was seamless. They were professional, knowledgeable and extremely courteous. They obviously knew exactly what they were doing and it looks amazing. Part of my apprehension regarding getting the solar was what was my roof going to look like, were there going to be holes in my roof and all of those things. It looks amazing there's no exterior power cords or anything it's all hidden and tucked away, power conduit looks great. Then Carson came out and did the final inspection with the city, that was again seamless. He arrived timely, was very professional and very knowledgeable. He explained everything gave me his phone number for follow-up questions I might have, everything was perfect. Without any question this is the company to go with everything was perfect from beginning to end! This whole operation is a well oiled machine!!! Highly recommend!! read more

Worst customer service I've seen! I purchased their solar system which mounted on the roof. A leak developed directly under the solar posts and is continuing to get worse. I've been trying to contact them multiple times for the last month. They scheduled an appointment on 01/26, 10-12 AM for someone to come and take a look but nobody showed up on our appointment. I've patiently called them multiple times trying to schedule another appointment. They promise that Taylor will call me back to take care of the issue and that never happened. I have the warranty contract in my hand and am very unsatisfied with their customer service. When a customer signed up for the solar system, it's a long term commitment and we trust Hooked on Solar to keep their promise when issues arise. I definitely don't see Hooked on Solar's attempt to work with me to resolve the issue. Now, it's raining again and I am very worried. I've patiently tried to connect with them and failed, I might have to consider alternative escalation including legislation (which I don't prefer). I shared my story here so everyone who is considering Hooked on Solar, please be careful. If you read the reviews history, I'm not the only one having issues with their customer service. read more

This is an update to my review on 8-4-2022. I upgraded my review to 4 stars because I was able to get ahold of Rodger, which is one of the field techs. Rodger went out of his way to make sure that my concerns were addressed. Once he heard about the leak on my roof he came out immediately, and then scheduled to come back just a few days later on a Saturday to fix the problem. He showed a genuine concern that there was a communication gap between the office and the field. He restored my faith in Sunpower by Hooked on Solar. read more

I have worked with HoS twice. The initial install three years ago included 9 solar panels and 1 battery. Then in 2023 we decided to expand the system by adding another battery and 6 new solar panels to accomodate an electric car. Admittedly, 2023 was not as seamless as in 2020, nevertheless the workmanship, the timeliness, the expertise, and the communication was excellent. Special kudos to Justin Orban who consistently responded to my calls, was open to any and all changes I wanted to make, and who was always there when the inevitable problem arose. Every on-site service and install person was always on time, communicated everything clearly and directly, and left my premises clean and orderly. I have referred HoS to a number of friends and will continue to do so. read more

The customer service was top notch from the initial sales meeting to the after install inspection. Every single employee was very nice and knowledgeable about solar. I was amazed that the entire installation took about 5 hours and I am so happy with my SunPower by Hooked on Solar. Thank you to Justin and his assistant Cara for answering my questions. read more

I got solar system installed from Hooked on Solar. I worked with Justin Orban. The entire process from start to finish went exceedingly smoothly. The timelines that Justin provided were precise and the company executed everything on schedule. The work crew was professional throughout the process. the entire process took about 4 months from getting first estimate to getting the solar system activated from PGE. The work was completed within the timeframe to get into NEM2.0. Justin also helped a few of my friends install their solar systems. Their experience was also overwhelmingly positive. read more

Review on Hooked on Solar's install and let me provide the facts: 1) With the exception of the very first electrican crew who actually showed up on time to install power wall and had inspection passed, the rest of the crew failed inspection twice and counting. 2) Work crew previously scheduled at 10am showed up at 8:30am twice. Customers are expected to be available whenever their crew can show up. 3) 1st crew left but left no indication as to when inspection will be and only after 3 phone calls over a period of 2 weeks, we were able to find out that nobody had contacted us... we know that already. Here we are on the 3rd try to pass inspection and 3rd time for another work day to be invested in/wasted on solar panel install. ***If you are a potential customer, be prepared to be available outside of scheduled time slots and be equally prepared to add on the hidden cost of additional wasted work days on top of the quote.*** (Not to mention the fact that our infant daughter was guaranteed to have a cranky day because she couldn't nap from the banging on the roof not just one day as expected but 3 and counting...) The inspector's face after the last failed inspection looked like he had lemon on his tongue. I am sorry to say that I share the inspector's sentiment. read more

Sun Power By Hooked On Solar installed Tesla power walls 2 for me, the process with Pge was lengthy and Ashlee was very helpful and hung in with the process over a few years of PG&E constant requirements / paperwork to make the project happen. I vetted 4 companies when looking for solar options for my home. Hooked on Solar came in the lowest bid and also had other perks that made choosing Hooked on Solar one of the easiest decisions ever. I've had my solar system for 2 years now and it has definitely lived up to the hype of having cheaper power bills and a sustainable reliable power source. I worked with Justin. We were very happy with the level of service we received from everyone we worked with at Sunpower! We recently purchased solar and 2 Powerwalls from Sunpower. Claudette was the consultant we met with for the purchase of our system. She was incredibly professional and broke down all of the details and was very patient answering all of our questions. Once the contract was signed she was there through the whole process to answer any questions we had. Beyond her, everyone we spoke with, from the scheduling dept. to the installers, were very professional, friendly and helpful. The level of communication from the scheduling dept was remarkable. They kept us informed on the progress of the project all the way to final inspection. On top of the top notch customer service we received from this company, we are very happy with our system. read more

Worst customer service I've seen in awhile! I purchased a home with solar mounted on the roof. A leak developed directly under the solar posts and is continuing to get worse. Hooked on solar came out once, looked at it, and claimed it wasn't caused by their work. Now they have been ignoring my calls and emails. It's clear that once they get their money from you, you're dead to them. I would not recommend them because they don't support you when it matters! read more

Four hundred and twenty five (425) days. That is how long it took from signing the contract to having a useable and permitted PV and battery system. HoS scored five own goals: First and second: their design team messed up the initial design not once but twice, both for not including a required AC disconnect. This slowed down the initial approval. The third was the install team not following the approved design. Not surprisingly, the county inspector was a bit aghast. The fourth was when HoS' work failed the second county level inspection: for using non-approved conduit in part of the system. We assume that the first inspector was too stunned that the work did not follow the plan that they did not notice the conduit fail. The fifth fail was the SMUD interconnection requirements, where HoS failed to follow the agreed upon requirements for the battery interconnection. When we asked the SMUD inspector how this happened they simply said "we gave them the information and requirements. They chose to not follow the information. "We recognize that last fall there were issues with obtaining panels but the schedulers/planners appeared to have forgotten about us, even after we reached out in the late winter for an update. An overarching issue we experienced, is that nobody is home in the management structure. Either the structure in place is incompetent or the people who are implementing it are. When we first started working with them we were told "somebody will get back to you within a week." Except during purchasing and dealing with the contract, this was not our experience. We would call back repeatedly before getting a modicum of information. Once things went south, we called and asked for status updates. We were told this request went into our file, but nobody ever reached out. We called and asked to have the project manager reach out (e.g., why did the installers not follow the approved plan? is there a health or safety issue?). Nothing. We followed up with emails cc'd to the owner. Still nothing. Although we are happy with our panels and battery, we would recommend using ANY SunPower provider OTHER THAN HoS. read more

The rep came to our home to give us a bid and answer questions. He didn't do any survey of our home but based the bid on "his experience." He was a young kid FYI. He never checked the equipment or panels. I asked for a cash bid as well as financing. I received two bids: one with a high rate with a financed amount then one with low rate and a financed amount that was $10,000 more. So...this means the cost of the system is based on your interest rate??!! It appears to be tax fraud as the tax credit was based on the amount financed and not the actual cost. I emailed that I wanted the cash cost of the system and haven't heard a word. So sad that I wasted my time. read more

Been wanting solar ever since buying my home. I was referred to SunPower by and friend and got into contact with Justin Orban, a SunPower consultant. He was very easy to talk to and work with to get the right amount of solar panels for our home. During the installation process, any time I had questions or concerns, all I had to do was give him a phone call and he made sure we were taken care of. The team of installers came out the day of the install, we're very attentive, respectful and installed everything they needed to within a days time. We couldn't be happier. Thanks SunPower and thanks Justin for our amazing system! read more

I have had multiple problems with my panels and the panel box itself. Every time there is a problem, i try to reach out and get help and fix the problems and everyone i speak to after being on hold for at least 10 minutes, never really helps. Im always told they will do their best and try to get someone on the phone or out to my house to resolve the problem. Im also always told I will get a call back for the situation, and I'm never contacted and to this day my problem still isn't fixed. My power box is over heating and I can never get ahold of anyone let alone getting the problem fixed. We chose to install solar prior to this year's PG&E NEM program change and even though most solar companies were decidedly swamped with requests, Justin Orban was attentive and took considerable time with us explaining the process in clear terms. We had been referred to him by another neighbor who highly recommended Justin and Hooked on Solar for the SunPower system. The install was scheduled promptly and while we did have some questions and concerns during that process, Justin was very responsive in resolving those issues and that made us feel like we chose the right company. While the cost was somewhat higher, the quality of components and service was a deciding factor. Even offered some financial incentives which really swung the deal. Happy to have the sun beating down on us now! read more

Simplest process I could've asked for. Brian Pease from Hooked on Solar made the process very easy. Aside from explaining the economics of it making it a no-brainer, he showed how the investment would also generate 2020 tax benefits. Natasha was also very helpful. The install crew were all very professional. I needed to upgrade my main panel which meant fitting a new 1' x 2.5' main panel for PG&E to terminate service along with the necessary Sunpower gear. When the finished, it looked excellent. The Solar install was done in about a half-a-day. The team brought a small generator so the install and loss of power while the install was being performed power was still on to the fridge, my home schooled son, and my home office. The next day another tech came out to perform a final inspection and demonstrate the portal to me. The system is generating over 20kwh/day. Thanks to the team! read more

We have been having issues with our Solar for the past year. It will all of a sudden stop producing solar. My husband has been on countless calls and still no resolve. Sun power has now told my husband that he needs to be taken care of by a 3rd party and has been on hold and multiple calls for hours. He was told on 3 occasions that he would receive a call back same day, never happened. My husband has been taking his entire lunch hour trying to get a resolve. He finally got in touch with someone and they told him he will be Charged $250 for someone to come take a look at the solar. We have had nothing but issues with our sunpower system and it makes me sick to my stomach to see so many of our neighbors having the same issues. Very disappointing and frustrating and we wish we could get a reliable system for our solar since we rely on this and pay for this service! Fix what ever is broken Su read more

Justin Orban and Juan Ochoa deserve 6 stars! Even though my system is five years old these gentlemen continue to serve and treat me as a valued customer. Our solar was installed 3/9/22 and worked for 3 weeks, now says not communicating properly so we see 0 kwh for home consumption, solar production or net grid usage. The green light on the inverter or hub is not lit, have reset the breakers etc and still not working . I have called several times and they just send me a pdf file showing me how to reset breakers which has been done. It has never worked off my home wifi and I demanded they send a tech out and was told it could be 10 days or longer depending on how many cases the tech has. I'm sure the hub is defective and wonder how many weeks or months it will take to get a new one. I'm sorry I signed up with this company so buyer beware! : ( read more

Install was quick and professional, with the crew only needing a half-day to install it. Permits were pulled and inspection revealed no issues of any kind! Worst customer service, with an owner that apparently does not care when a customer is having real issues. Pray you have no issues with your system, otherwise you will be left in the dark and ignored while they still collect your hard earned dollar. Our installation had a failure the minute it was turned on, but this was not discovered until 5 years into our lease! We are only asking to be reimbursed for the portion of the system that was not working for that period of time, but we can not get the owner Chad to return our calls in spite of almost daily calls to customer service. We have been strung along since September, being told by customer service reps that they are working on our reimbursement, but it is now May and we still have no resolution, and no one communicating their intentions, very frustrating. read more

Nicole was awesome in every way possible. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. In addition she was very professional and kind through the whole process. Right before I was about to move forward with a different company l was recommended by a colleague to work with Nicole. Outstanding job by Justin Orban and the SunPower Solar team.  I researched for the last six months about taking the plunge into solar and in every documented case, SunPower was always highlighted as the industry standard for their panels, installation process and equipment. From the minute we first met with Justin, through post installation, he and the SunPower team kept us informed at every step via emails and phone calls. Installation day even came sooner than planned, the crew were professional and they even took the time to trim a piece of wood and remounted my ladder where I had removed it the day prior to make room for the install. Two days later, they were there to inspect and commission the system, hook up my online monitoring app and less than a week later, we were cleared to sell power back to PG&E. If you're in the market for solar, do your research and you'll quickly see that SunPower is the best, then call Justin Orban at 530-401-2597 and start saving money on electric bills instead of giving money to PG&E every month. read more

My salesperson did a great job explaining my solar options in a way that made sense for my situation and my house. Their installers came over to my house and installed the systems were courteous, professional, diligent and cleaned up after themselves. What really impressed me was when they came back with paint matched to my house to make everything blend in. My rep followed up after the install to walk me through the basics and show me how it works. Strongly recommend! read more
