There are some really thorough reviews here about how awesome Sunpower by Hooked On Solar is so I'll be brief and say "ditto" :-) We decided to get solar and had 3 companies come and give an estimate. Not even close in terms of the quality of the solar panels - Sunpower just blew the competition away for quality, commercial and residential installation track record, technical innovation, industry thought leader, manufacturing quality/location etc. I'd recommend starting with Sunpower for your 1st estimate and then challenge the other companies with the facts about Sunpower. The Hooked On Solar crew was A+ hard working, unobtrusive, professional. And watching the electricity generated on my iPhone app is so sweet! These company is the real deal and you won't be disappointed! read more

I love small businesses. I love local businesses. I love businesses that really have it together. All this love came together for us with Hooked on Solar. I am very wary of contractors after many poor experiences in the past, and these guys are specialized contractors, but, luckily, they are a breed apart. Another local solar company did a no-call/no-show for our appointment. From the time we first called until the system was turned on, we dealt with about 6 different people for different aspects of the project. They all were very friendly and helpful but the star of the show was our "Solar Consultant", Justin Orban. He was really easy to get in touch with and always followed through extremely well and in a timely manner. He handled our install like a friend would. The installation crew did a very nice job and they were obviously proud of it. They were friendly and happy and caring and careful. I think that's really important because it means they're working for a cool company and want to represent it well by doing the best work they can. After the install was complete, I had a problem with the Internet based monitoring system. It was caused by a cable TV installer screwing up our Internet connection. I emailed the generic Hooked on Solar address since it was the Sunday before Veterans' Day. I expected that I would hear nothing until the Tuesday after the holiday. To my surprise, I got a response from Alex about an hour and a half later - this was on a Sunday!!! We exchanged a couple more emails in which he talked me through a fix until it was back up on Veterans' Day!!! Wow. So now we're happily generating a bunch of green electricity and feeling very lucky to have found a very great bunch of folks to help us do it. read more

When we decided to have solar for our house we shop with many different companies but decided to go with SunPower by Hooked on Solar because the solar panels that they used are high quality and it last longer (from our research). The company did a great job from the start to finish. It's been 6 months since we have our solar install and we are very happy with the outcomes as well as the company. Claudette was our sales rep-she had been very patient and always helpful. I would recommend strongly recommend this company to anyone who are looking into getting solar. Please ask for Claudette if you want a sale rep who treat you as her family members. read more

After reading so many bad reviews/experiences online for solar companies, and also experiencing pushy sells reps myself, I was skeptical to even install solar for my home. I was referred to Nicole Barenchi, Hooked on Solar, by a very satisfied neighbor. Nicole was patience, knowledgeable, and was able to explain everything about the solar panel system in simple term so I could understand easily. Nicole's interest was definitely to provide me a solar system that fit my needs, not about making another sale and moving on. She also exceeded my expectation by diligently communicating and keeping me in the loop throughout the whole process. I would definitely make another solar purchase from Nicole and the team from Hooked on Solar again, as well as recommend them to anyone who's looking to purchase solar for their home. read more

When we started searching for solar panel we were pretty clueless. After interviewing 4 companies, we created a list of wants. Since this is a long term investment, our criteria included: the highest producing panel on the market, contractor familiar with standing seam metal roof, a system designed to accommodate family expansion, and no sub contractors. Mitzie was awesome. She educated, answered all of our questions and kept us informed through the entire process. The installers were professional and courteous. We are very happy with our system! read more

I really want to install SunPower panels on my roof, and still intend to, but Hooked On Solar has been incredibly unprofessional with me, and I'll be looking for another installer. I scheduled an appointment and was home at the specified time and they never showed up and never called to let me know they weren't coming or to reschedule. Then I called back to see what happened and to try to reschedule and they promised that they would have the person that missed the meeting call me back immediately (that day) and prioritize getting out to our house. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised when the call never came from him or the office. Time to try to find another installer. read more

28 panel system installed 3 years ago at cost of $40k..worked well for one year but now the system is having constant communication issues which are "conveniently" not covered and require a service tech to come out to correct..I have had 4 service visits in 2 years..and now they are charging me $275 for the visit...spoke w/ manager who said every time you change your WiFi password, or router, or internet provider, or there is power outage, ....the communication to the solar supervisor will fail and requires a service tech @$275 to respond..every other device in my house reconnects to the internet when I lose power, and every other device that I own ( which includes the SunPower supervisor) can be updated to new network/password..how hooked on solar charges 275$ to reconnect..Caveat Emptor read more

After months of research and comparing companies, I'm thrilled I just got solar with Sunpower by Hooked on Solar. My family had 21 solar panels installed on our roof and two Tesla PowerWall batteries installed in our garage just in time to be ready for the PG&E electrical grid shutdown of late October 2019. We are very happy with the investment. Because we decided to purchase rather than lease the system, and because it is a long term capital improvement to our home, it was important to us to consolidate the equipment purchase, the installation, future service, and warranty protection into one transaction with one entity that was likely to be around for years to come. We heard too may stories of people who bought panels from companies that are now out of business, and had their panels installed by subcontractors who cannot be found, and now the customers are holding worthless warranties. SunPower by Hooked on Solar best met all of these concerns. Our contact at the company was Nicole, who is knowledgeable and professional and did not just "sell" us the system but has remained in touch and responsive to our every question to this day. It is a long process (largely because of demand and local permit requirements), and everyone from the company -- planners, panel installers, battery installers, etc. -- has been punctual, courteous, and highly competent. We could not be more pleased with our decision to use SunPower by Hooked on Solar. read more

I spent about 6 months researching solar systems and back-up batteries not only for myself but as lead for the benefit of our HOA residents also interested. I vetted about 10 companies, met with 6. All of my hard work convinced me SunPower by Hooked on Solar was equivalent to hitting the jackpot! Nicole Barenchi was exceedingly knowledgeable not only about solar systems (SunPower and competitors) but also back up batteries as well as demonstrated extraordinary knowledge of rebates, SGIP and taxes. She is not hard-sales but rather takes the time to provide a full education and answer in-person and back-and-forth questions (I'm sure I exhausted her!). The whole team from start to finish provided a polished and ideal system and customer service experience (an art that is rarely found anymore) from Design, to Install (thanks Esteban team!) to Electrical (thanks Jimmy!) to final and tech assistance (thanks Roy!) to Rebate/s (thanks Rosanna!). This company represents what my research determined...the best solar panels (SunPower) and the best batteries (Tesla) and I was informed and updated at every stage and all levels and my requests were accommodated (BTW, I'm a perfectionist). Obviously I would recommend HOS to everyone considering solar (or just starting to research). read more

I had a Solar System installed by Hooked on Solar and they did an amazing job. I have saved a lot of money on my PG&E bill, the bills are next to nothing. Hooked on Solar is an elite SunPower dealer and the SunPower panels are really good. I had a problem with some work not done by Hooked on Solar in which the bird screens were improperly installed. I called Hooked on Solar and they stepped up to the plate and fixed the problem. They did not create the problem but were willing to take care of it at no cost to me. Alexis from Hooked on Solar provided top notch service and the problem was resolved. I recommend Hooked on Solar if you want great service and a great product. read more

We met Justin Orban in 2013 when he sold us our first set of solar panels. We had shopped around and gotten a few estimates. Hands down, Justin, did the best job fitting the system to our family's needs. Fast forward 6 years to when we sold our home. We reached out to Justin again (yes SIX years later) and it was like we just spoke yesterday. Our realtor had some concerns about transferring the solar lease, and we were hearing a few horror stories. Justin assured us it would be fine, and took his own time to assure the buyers they were also getting a great system for a great price. The sale of our home went off without a (solar) hitch! We knew we would definitely be using Hooked on Solar again for our new home. We met with Justin last fall. Again, he did not disappoint, and we purchased another system for our current home! We have built a long term relationship with our solar guy! How many people can say that??? We love that Hooked on Solar is a local company that is local, not just in it to collect the money, and never correspond again. I would recommend going with this solar company 10x over, as they are honest, responsive, and %100 take care of their clients for the long haul! read more

I purchased 44 panels on a raised ground mount 4 years ago. All was great until it broke 2 years later. I reported the problem in May of 2019 and have gotten nothing but lies of pending repair, finger pointing and more un returned calls than I can count. We now have to pay our loan for the 85k project and a power bill. The total being double our old bill. These people are horrible after they get your money! read more

I purchased a $24,500 system last year from SunPower by Hooked on Solar. That's the cost of a brand new car on my roof. The way it works is, they come out and do a review of your energy use and design a system that will off set it. I repeatedly told my sales person that I didn't use my heater in the winter because it was too expensive to run, and that I'd like enough panels to be able to run my heater in the winter. This winter, I ran my whole house heater twice for a total of about 8 hours. I also ran a one room heater on several days. After one year of use, you receive what's called a true up bill. It's the difference between what your system produces and the energy used. My true up bill was a staggering $750. Completely unacceptable! I called the company and asked to speak with a manager. I was told they were in meetings, and they would return my call. Days went by with no response. I called again and was told the same thing. After a couple weeks of this, I was contacted not by a manager, but by my original sales person. I explained to her that my true up bill was $750. and that I was a very dissatisfied customer. Finally, after about a month and a half, I got a call from a manager. I explained to him that I had refinanced my home for the specific purpose of getting solar. I spent a great deal of money on a system that does not meet my needs. I asked that additional panels be installed at or near cost. They had already made a nice profit off of me, and now it was a matter of customer satisfaction. That seems reasonable right? A week ago I was given a quote for additional panels. The price was the same as the price per panel of the original system. I asked what their cost was per panel. She said she didn't know. I asked her to find out, and get back to me. Of course, I haven't received a response. It is now crystal clear to me that this company has absolutely no concern with customer satisfaction. I am completely discussed with their unwillingness to make this right, and to even respond to my concerns in the first place. Really? It takes 5 phone calls, and several emails from a customer who paid $24,500, and a $750. true up bill to even get a response from a manager? Pathetic! I strongly recommend to anyone looking to install a solar system for their home, to look elsewhere. Sunpower by Hooked on solar does not have customer satisfaction in their vocabulary. Positively horrible customer service! read more

We worked with Hooked on Solar on a Tesla battery installation and our experience was excellent from start to finish. The entire team was very professional, knowledgeable, technically competent, and communicative. Justin Orban was our point person and kept us well informed, both technically and schedule-wise. Juan did an outstanding job on the installation, and Martin Singh was terrific during the inspection and commissioning process as he explained how the system worked and patiently answered all our questions. Hooked on Solar even proactively sought out and secured a large PG&E SGIP rebate on our behalf, something we weren't expecting. We will certainly continue to use and recommend Hooked on Solar for any future solar and battery needs. read more

Justin Orban is your guy for these. He was extremely helpful with everything. Installed 20 panels and they look beautiful. Thanks Justin!

Got a fair quote and installation was done right away. I still can't believe how quick the turnaround was from getting a quote and getting the panels on the roof. We have had the panels up for a month and everything is working great so far! read more

Do not buy a solar system from SunPower! They have the absolute worst customer service in the world. Calling the customer service number connects you with someone in the Philippines who can't speak English and who does nothing. Our $75,000 system was installed in late 2015 and worked beautifully until April 2018 when half the system seems to have shut down. We have called and begged to GE the system operating correctly again ever since all to no avail. It is now apparently only producing less than half the power promised when we bought the system and the monitoring system is horrible. Don't buy! We'd give this manufacturer negative stars if possible. read more

It is an honor to be the first to write a review here. Unfortunately, it's not positive. I didn't have a choice to go with them, when I bought my house the builder decided to go with them. They are dysfunctional. For example, when the micro-inverters were not broadcasting, they ask me to schedule an appointment for their technician to check it out. Well, their technician didn't show up and I had to call them to find out what happen. We schedule a 2nd appointment and the same thing. I call and they informed me they were able to fix the issue on their end. But some how they didn't bother to let me know and for the second time I took time off from work to meet their technician. The latest issue is that their system enrolled me in auto pay without my consent. Never mind that I paid March's bill on 2/26, their system took out money to pay for March's bill on 3/1. When I call, they said it would take 4-6 days. Long story short, if you have a choice, don't go with them. Go with someone else. At this point, not only are they incompetent, you can't trust them. read more

The Hooked On Solar team showed up exactly on time and were prepared for the install. They were polite, courteous and efficient. Overall, they were completely engaged in ensuring that the install was right - very, very pleased. Would highly recommend. read more

I had a 5KW system installed with HOS Really bad experience with this company. Contract was signed on July 3rd 2019, timeline set to 10-12 weeks. Due to multiple faults from design team the project took 5+ months to complete. Final PTO obtained Dec 12th, 2019. Though I was assigned a Customer Rep who was suppose to walk me through the entire process and keep me apprised, never heard from the person. Information retrieval is a pull process wherein if you need to find out where you stand you got to call-in. HOS suffers from utter lack of communication between its internal teams (Sales, design, install etc). Sales rep will also make all sorts of promises but do not live up to them. So watch out for that. Sent multiple communications to project manager and owner but no replies just "we are looking into and someone will get back to you shortly". Overall experience with HOS team leaves much to be desired I gave them 1 star because of the ease-of install and the professional manner in which it was handled in single day. Except that part the entire process was mired with delays due to design issue, lack of communication and internal miscommunications. Very frustrating ordeal after spending upwards of 22K on the system. They certainly do not live up to the Master Dealer standard. If you are in Bay-Area you might be better served with local providers. read more

If you have a choice to go with a different company, do it! They have shown their incompetence to complete the job. We moved into a new construction home and didn't have a choice when it came to solar panel companies. We were told it would take 6wks for our panels to be turned on. This was delayed by over a month. Over three weeks ago we were told our panels were turned on, they weren't. Lie number 2. After multiple attempts to email and call them they continue to tell us that our case has been escalated. It's been given to a case manager (no name given) and to a escalation manager (also no name given). They are 'trying' to get into contact with the installer to get this fixed but have been unable to give us a date. We've been hearing this for about a month. This is unacceptable. After reading the other reviews we're clearly not the only one this company seems to be dicking around. read more

Our solar system was nearly completely installed in one day!  When we decided to look into solar, we met with Justin in the Hooked on Solar office in Rocklin. He explained the process and the components they use very clearly and thoroughly. He was very knowledgable regarding the solar system and was able to answer all of our questions. Justin was great and put us at ease and we felt very comfortable getting our solar through Hooked on Solar. We just got our solar system installed today. We were very impressed with the installation crew. David Collin explained the process very thoroughly and involved us in the decision process regarding our electrical system. Our house is 20 years old and they had to re-work most of the breakers and I could tell that this was a complicated process. David made us feel confident about proceeding and they did an excellent job. David Collin, Estaben, Victor and Will worked extremely hard in the hot sun and stayed until 11 PM to make certain we had our power back on and everything was working properly.  I would highly recommend the staff and this company for your solar needs. read more

Just a note of thanks to you and the rest of the crew there at Hooked on Solar. The solar project at our home was efficiently executed exactly as described and promised at the beginning by Justin Corbin. Everyone was friendly, informative and well trained in their respective roles.  I was especially impressed with the installation crew.  They worked together as a team like clockwork and installed our system in about 2 1/2 hours.  And the office support staff were great too keeping us well informed at every step along the way.  Followup was great. I feel that should any problem arise in the future that Hooked on Solar will be there. Our solar system complete and pumping out the juice.  I get particular satisfaction checking the app to see the system in action. read more

Pat is on time, on point, not pushy, and very informative. He doesn't pull out contract and ask you to sign it ever. His knowledge on solar is endless and he is more of an informative speaker than a sales man. Never once did I feel pressured to buy anything. After comparing 3 different solar companies, it was apparent that I had to go with Hooked on Solar, sunpower. And I'm happy with my decision. read more

Hooked on Solar Leased us our solar system about 4 years ago. At the time, Chad gave us what he knew was obsolete equipment that you couldn't even get parts for. We have had recurring issues since installation. The most recent was this last July - they still haven't fixed it. Even though they have been out to "fix" about once a week since. No progress. Our set-up/Layout is not unique. There is no reason it shouldn't have been fixed months ago. Not only would I NOT recommend this company to anyone I feel they either need entirely new management of just close the doors completely. read more

I am so happy with our Sunpower panels! I know that saving money and the environment should be enough reason to go solar, but I wanted the panels to look good too. When I drive around I'm always looking at all the solar installed these days, but honestly, I feel like they can be an eye sore. I was really happy that Hooked On Solar was able to install the panels on our back roof and that they look so sleek and modern. Throughout the whole process, Hooked on Solar kept us informed, they even got them installed faster than they quoted us. Any time I call with questions, they get back to me right away. Good customer service seems hard to find these days since everyone is so busy, but Hooked on Solar is the exception. We're not going to suffer this summer with high AC bills! Yay! read more

Bill Gurgol was awesome throughout the entire process! He was not pushy at all like other salesmen, he was extremely professional, and quite honestly he was the primary reason why I chose to go with SunPower by Hooked on Solar. Of course I did my research and found that SunPower has the best solar panels on the market so that was obviously a factor as well. But I had consultations with many other solar companies and as I just stated Bill Gurgol was the differentiating factor for me. The installation of the solar panels and equipment was very quick, efficient, and professional. The Bill Review Solar discussion post-installation with Bill was informative and helped me understand my solar generation and PG&E bill details. And now I've had my solar for 6 months and I have absolutely no complaints at all. Great experience and I highly recommend Bill Gurgol if you are looking at getting Solar. read more

I wish the owner or someone would get back to me! Unprofessional installers. Seems like this place just hires anyone

Hooked on Solar (Courtney) contacted me immediately after my review to correct any problems and to compensate me for my time loss. Courtney called me and made sure we could come to an agreement. You can tell Courtney cares about the reputation of Hooked on Solar. She is a good advocate for the company. She told me about the corrections the company had made to make sure any future customers would not have the same problems. My home passed the inspection the second time. While the transition had some bumps in the road, I am satisfied with the results. Thank you Courtney for reaching out to me and listening to my problems. read more

After putting a new roof on our house, my husband and I decided to look into solar panels. I reached out to my neighbors and friends, and Hooked on Solar was recommended by multiple people. The representative that came out to our home was extremely professional and smart. My husband is an engineer, so let's just say his questions can be very technical. The representative had an answer to every question and it was very clear that he had a comprehensive understanding of the solar industry. No fancy sales pitch, just straight forward. We got a couple of other quotes, and felt most comfortable with Hooked on Solar. The installation was quick (about a day) and the team was by far the most professional group of men that I have worked with in regards to home improvement projects. From their superior etiquette to the matching work shirts and immaculate work trucks....you could tell that they wanted nothing but a good rapport with their customer. I've seen other solar company's in my neighborhood that have been disrespectful. Smoking, unprofessional appearance, etc. I've always believed that if the little things are done right, then the big things are done right. Our panels are working perfectly. And our first bill was $5. AMAZING!!!! Thank you Hooked on Solar!!!! read more

My opinion is that these "good" reviews are not accurate. I've been calling all the folks I referred them to last Spring, and every single neighbor except one reported nightmares and major disappointments. My understanding is, they may have lost their relationship with their financial services company Mosaic. In today's email exchange, the owner Chad Fralick, tried to force me to pay cash in order to complete an installation. Who does that? My impression is that they are frauds, cheats, swindlers, liars, and have angered me more than I ever would have anticipated. I've waited months for this system to go in, and they flaked 48 hours before the install date! The owner is a real crook, in my opinion based on my experience. I'm out thousands of dollars and now am in the process of filing complaints with the State Board. They have lots of filed complaints! I wonder how they still have their license! Call their other customers! I did. Lots and lots of horror stories, not on Yelp. But a lot. People aren't getting their PG&E approvals, they aren't getting permit sign off, because of shoddy workmanship, and the tax rebates aren't happening. This should be a massive class action lawsuit for fraud. read more

I went solar with The Solar builders through Hooked on Solar in July of 2019. I had never explored going solar before that time, but I met with Jon Landsman and he helped explain all of the benefits of going solar with SunPower and Hooked on Solar. The installation went very smoothly and I was pleased with the how the system looked on my roof. However once the system was installed and I received permission to start using my solar from PG&E, I noticed on my online monitoring portal that there was no production. I brought this up to Hooked on Solar's service department, but they came out 3 times and couldn't figure out how to get my system to perform correctly. I had 2+ months with no solar production and racked up about $500 of usage from PG&E during the peak producing months of August and September. After one year my entire true-up bill is $576, so it's pretty obvious when the system was working properly I would have landed close to a $0 balance. So I went though my representative Jon to ask Hooked on Solar to compensate me for the lack of production since they couldn't "commission the system" properly to begin with. He did so on my behalf and got a canned response that "we do not compensate for lost production". They're more than happy to take my money for services rendered, but they don't reciprocate when the services they provide come up short. I asked Jon to try again and escalate this up. He then wrote an appeal to their VP Don Crevoserat. They didn't respond to Jon and he followed up a few days later and they failed to respond again. I'm very happy with Jon as he has provided bill reviews and stayed with me throughout the installation process and beyond. However...DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH HOOKED ON SOLAR OR THE SOLAR BUILDERS!! They are horrible and have zero follow through on the back end. Very frustrating experience! read more

We decided to investigate solar panels after incurring high electric bills for several years. After interviewing several companies, we considered five bids and chose SunPower by Hooked on Solar. We liked SunPower's American-made panels with the integrated micro inverters. Their price was comparable to the other bids. We also received information that we might be eligible for additional rebates. The permit process took about 60 days. I think it was compounded by our Homeowner's Association (HOA) management changes. After HOA approval, it took about two weeks for Hooked on Solar to receive the panels from SunPower. Installation was scheduled at our convenience. Lauren Zuegel, Sr. Solar Consultant ((916) 525-8246), was personable during the interview, very knowledgeable about the product and responded promptly to all questions throughout the process. She provided excellent service in dealing with the HOA permit process and keeping us well-informed of the progress. The installation technicians were courteous, professional and respectful of our property. It took them less than a full day to install the solar panels. The next day the technician, Armando of Hooked on Solar, completed installation of the computer program and turned the system on. He also helped us download the computer app for tracking energy production of the panels. Armando was professional, patient while waiting for the inspector, and nice to talk with. It's great seeing the meter moving in our favor! We were very satisfied with Lauren's professionalism and her followup after installation. Overall, we would rate everyone who worked on our project very high and we are confident that we have the best technology. Thank you for your excellent service! By Ken and Deb K. read more

What a horrible company to work with , Beware !. I wanted to do the green thing and decided to use SunPower panels. They set me up with Hooked on Solar and things fell apart from there , promises made that were not kept , deadlines that were not met. We signed the paperwork in July , Had a new beefed up roof installed and waited. In January THEY simply canceled the project because of SMUD wiring. They did the pre-inspection drew up the plans , got them approved and then ran away when they found out that they had made an error. I didn't think contracts worked that way. watch out for Hooked on Solar , the most disorganised company I've ever dealt with. read more

We got excellent service when signing up. It was easy, explained well, overall a 0leasant experience. We were told 90 days mac for install, and that date came and went without word from the solar company. We were not kept in the loop on when we could expect install. No calls or emails. Terrible customer service on the back end. Our solar ended up being over 2 and half months later than expected, missing all of the hottest months of the year with high energy usage. I can't recommend a company that can't return calls or emails. read more
