Amazingly fresh seafood. We started with the creamy jalapeño corn chowder that came with a rather large lump of crab meat. One spoon into it and we devoured it in minutes. The creamy texture along with an occasional chuck of crab meat and corn made me think of some of the best New England chowders I've had. Then we had a fried fish sandwich and the crab cake sandwich. The fish sandwich was a delightful mix of textures with crunch from the batter and the fresh coleslaw. The crab cake was a no nonsense no breading humongous lump of crab that makes you smile the moment it's served. Paired with a brioche bun and remoulade sauce - it's a must have here. The decor is surprisingly fresh and bright for a seafood restaurant. Five stars. Will try and go back before I leave ocean city !! read more

We saw all the amazing reviews and figured we had to try it. I have to say it is pretty amazing. We showed up around 5:30 on a Tuesday in July and were seated immediately. Friendly staff and a nice quiet atmosphere. We started with the "Boom Boom Shrimp" and like all the other reviews say they were on point. I had the crab cakes which were basically 100% crab and so well prepared and my wife got the NY Strip which was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Kids meals were very generous and tasty. Overall I would recommend Hooked to anyone. It's a great OC gem. read more

Family of five with 3 kids and we were sat immediately on a Friday during a holiday weekend. 10 points. Awesome draft list and an eclectic coconut cocktail to keep the wife quiet and happy. 20 points. Absolutely ON POINT kids chicken fingers with sautéed summer squash and what I think were twice fried fries. 30 points Extraordinary soft shell crab special with chilled cous cous that had the perfect amount of acid and salt. 40 points. read more

Used you be really good, but this place is slowly declining. Fries used to be hand cut-now they are McDonald's style. Shrimp bucatini okay, was sooo salty and it was obvious they used frozen shrimp. Shrimp tacos only had 2 shrimp in each. Crab dip has absolutely NO crab in it and it's $18!!! Strawberry bread pudding is a dense brick and flavorless with no fresh strawberries, just tasteless jam on top. Raising prices and cutting corners. Too bad because we used to love to come here. Service was great, oh and the calamari was good. read more

Great food, great tap list, great happy hour. Shrimp and Grits are excellent. Fish and Chips very good too. Save room for the key lime pie!

This review is based on a carry-out order for my wife and I. After that experience, I would definitely return to either carry out, or eat in. The restaurant is in a little shopping center with some parking out front and a large lot out back. When I walked in, the hostess station was right there, and ready to hand me my meal. It was quick and easy, and the dining room and outdoor areas both looked very nice. Now on to the food... I ordered the Crab Bisque to start, and the Shrimp & Grits for my main, and my wife ordered the Seared Day Boat Scallops (also served on grits). Everything was absolutely delicious! I would say Shrimp & Grits is one of my favorite meals, and I love trying it at different places, but would usually just try it once and move on to other things. In this case, I would gladly order it again and again... it was so good! The portion wasn't huge, so I was glad I had the soup, and shared some soup with my wife. Her dish was also fabulous. I got a small bite and was very impressed! It was nothing like the Shrimp & Grits which was cool, you could totally order both to share, and get two totally different experiences. I would absolutely return to Hooked, and look forward to the opportunity! read more

Amazing place! The next time we visit Ocean City we're eating at Hooked. I ordered a salmon special because the waiter, Skylar recommended it....absolutely delicious. Our order: Black Sea Bass, Cioppino, and 2 children's chicken tenders. We were really looking forward to a great meal given the reviews but found Hook to be a disappointment. The bass was cooked well but lacked flavor, Cioppino had a nice mix of seafood but didn't have much of it and was very oily and in need of tomatoes, potatoes, and seasoning, and, not that it's a deal breaker but, the kids meal chicken tenders said they're hand dipped, they were standard frozen tenders. read more

Sub par to-go food for the price. The person taking orders wasn't very friendly. We ordered 2 spicy watermelon margaritas ($12 each) and they came in bags with odd holes at the top, which prevented us from being able to pour them. They also didn't contain very much and were uneven. The fish and chips was also missing the side of cole slaw. Green tomato salad is really good and so are the wings, but it was only the wings... no celery or ranch/blue cheese. Wouldn't recommend to-go drinks from here. read more

My better half and I came for happy hour. We sat at the upstairs bar with bartender Jimmy. He did a great jobWe had the crab dip with pretzels. Very good. I had the happy hour Chardonnay and Ed had the blueberry Lemonade. First day on the menu and killed it! Scott (I believe the GM?) greeted us at the front door with a smile and walked us upstairs. a nice place to dine. It has three things going for it. First an inside and outside dining area with bars in both places. Second absolutely delicious crab bisque. We have been trying to make it here for a couple of years now, but we finally made it. Every year we vacation in OC MD we go to the same 3 or 4 restaurants, so we only have a few openings for new restaurants to try every year. This restaurant was in our queue for awhile, but it was worth the wait. Everything here did taste freshly made. I ordered the peach margarita and it was made with freshly squeezed juice. The corn and jalapeno crab bisque soup had a nice kick to it but didn't overpower the crab. I ordered the scallops with grits as my entree. The scallops were seared very nicely and had good flavor. The only thing I didn't like was that the scallops, corn, and grits were piled on top of each other with a lot of water in a bowl. I like everything separated, and the water kind of made the grits mushy. Other than that, it was a very good meal. read more

Decided to try Hooked after reading other reviews and were not disappointed. Our server Sean was amazing, very attentive, offered suggestions and just flat out nice. The food was excellent. Fantastic service and a great menu! We came here based on others' reviews of the crab dip. It was fantastic, as were the pretzels and the house bread. My fiancé had lobster Mac and cheese. I got the salmon. It was FANTASTIC, the best salmon I've ever had. The lemon remoulade and lemon vinaigrette (on the included side salad) were just as delicious as the fish. We are debating going back today. Everything was that good. read more

I ordered the scallops since the server suggested it and they were stellar. My BF ordered the swordfish It was good but a Lille dry, overcooked. Tuna appetizer was absolutely delicious and the bread was so yummy. I wish I could take a loaf home. The only reason I am Not rating it higher is because our server Dwight was not that personable. It was as if we were Inconveniencing him. We were not demanding nor were we unfriendly, but he wished he was somewhere else. read more

I'm not a big fan of sea food, but my wife loves it, so we went to this place. I was actually pleasantly surprised. Everything I tried was very good, even the scallops, which I have never liked, were tasty. Hooked does not offer mind blowing food, but what they make is well made, and worthwhile. What it lacks in passion, it more than makes up for in craft. I had the shrimp skewers with the spaghetti squash chorizo dish, and a surprisingly great scallop. read more

Meh. Everything was average. For the price I expected more. The wait staff and hostess were dismissive and sub par.

Expensive but more significantly, service was barely mediocre... wait staff just going thru the motions. And the 3.5% surcharge for CC is absurd... who pays cash when average entree is about $40? I'm done here... disappointing because we've been loyal fans for years... read more

We came here around 6pm on a Saturday evening, and it was just starting to get crowded. This was early-May though, so I'd expect this place to be packed during the regular season. Pros: THE BEST SEAFOOD, GREAT DECOR, EVERYTHING IS AWESOME HERE! Cons: what cons???? no cons here! Must-Have's So, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this place!!! My recommendation of crab feast in the area is one night of "On the Bay", all you can eat crab feast, and one night here. This place is for more upscale crab experience. We pretty much ordered everything off the menu; from softshell crabs to seared scallops to sea bass, and everything was AMAZING. Definitely comparable to Michellin 1 star restaurants in Manhattan. Just trust me and check this place out. read more

I feel strongly that if one were to eat at Hooked for an extended period of time it may actual speed up their evolutionary clock - causing one to develop gills, fins and scales - in an effort to get closer to the source of the delectable, deep-sea dishes served with perfection here. As I write this now I can't help but to hear those steel drums and xylophones in the background as the crab from that movie harmoniously leads schools of fish and scores of clams in singing "Under The Sea", while I creep up on the unsuspecting whole lot of them poised to strike for a snack like the hungry merman that I've become. Reading this review and wondering if maybe I might have a negative comment to say about Hooked? I wouldn't hold your breath. The food, the service, the atmosphere... let's just say that everything went swimmingly. I was a tough call choosing between the Seared Scallops and the Cioppino. Both dishes sounded like seafood heaven to me, but I sided with the Cioppino with it sounding more like a smorgasbord having shrimp, scallops, clams, fin fish, mussels, and even a little chorizo sausage in it. It was a good choice. I found myself sucking the broth up with a straw when I finished. No, I'm not proud, but I never have claimed to be. Our server said Hooked is known for its sea scallops, and with this being Ocean City, I had Maryland blue crab on my mind... So, just to be safe I order a side crab cake and a side of scallops. Decandent? I know, but man was it worth it. I paid for it in the end... literally... when the bill came around, but still worth it. Well, I didn't just get the crab cake and scallops for me, I shared them with the table. Just like the table shared some of the best calimari I've ever eaten with me... you know, squid pro quo... (ok, I'll strike that last poorly devised joke from the record). I suppose that instead of evolving into a predatory fish it might be easier and faster to just get a job washing dishes at Hooked. That way you can scrap up and eat all the left over food from the bus pans (if any) and simply lick the Cioppino bowls clean instead of slurpping it up daintily with a straw like a snob, which is how I was forced to do it being that I was in public space. read more

By far, this restaurant was my favorite from my Labor day weekend. That being said, let the review begin. The restaurant was extremely packed and the wait was a little long, but the food was worth it. It was a nice touch to have a bar outside the establish, so the customers could orders drink while waiting to be seated. the restaurant had an outside seating area and two floors, the top floor also had an outside balcony to enjoy the view of the sunset. The food was amazing. We had the mussel and the calamari as appetizers, the calamari was light and crisp and the broth form the mussel dish was an excellent dipping sauce for the bread they served in the beginning. For the entree, my family order the roasted salmon, the crab cake, and the scallops. It was a lovely seafood galore, all the seafood was prepared to perfection and I literally tasted the ocean in mouth. Our waiter recommended the crab cakes, but what took me by surprise were the scallops. A lot of establishments I went to overcook the scallops, but that dish took the home run. If I am ever back again in Ocean City, I will return back craving for more food. read more

If you've ever thought beach food and fine dining are mutually exclusive, you haven't been to HOOKED yet! My oh my, oh my...are you ever in for a treat! Let's start with the cocktails...shouldn't we ALWAYS start with a cocktail? Hooked does their own beautiful infusions! Even the humble Ocean City, MD original, the Orange Crush, was elevated with a fresh orange and ginger-infused vodka. Nice take! While that was my dining companions choice, my own was a Smoky Mater...a delightful bloody Mary-ish, martini-ish delight with Illegal mezcal and their own tomato nectar and garnished with the most delightful smoked and pickled cherry tomatoes. So GOOD! Other house infusions included rosemary lemon vodka, peach tequila, a wildflower infusion...and there are house pickled cherries, too! (The back of the bar was very well stocked with a big selection of infusions in process and I spent a good amount of time marvelling at their beauty.) On to the starters. The first thing that caught my eye was the Roasted Corn & Jalapeno Crab Bisque. This old gluten issue always precludes cream soups - especially my favorite of all time, cream of crab or crab bisque. I'm SO used to "settling" for Maryland crab soup. Sigh. Cautiously I inquired about the bisque, all the while steeling myself for the inevitable "sorry." To my shock and delight, the crab bisque at Hooked is gluten-free. Glory be and hallelujah! I ordered it immediately. It. Was. Divine. Rich, creamy, corn-y, slightly spicy with jalapeno and crowned with lumps of beautiful, sweet, fresh Maryland blue crab. Thank you, thank you, Hooked! You gave a gluten-free chick a very, very happy moment...that I repeated during our week at the beach. Although it was hard to follow the bisque, my Truffled Raw Asparagus Salad with red onion, hard boiled egg, chunks of bacon, shaved Pecorino Romano atop Bibb lettuce and drizzled nicely with truffle aioli certainly lived up to my expectations. And then some! This is beach food?! Truffles really seemed to be the theme of the day as my companion selected Truffled Sweet Corn n' Crab Flatbread as her entree. She daintily, but thoroughly, polished off every single smidgen of the crisp, thin bread piled with good Maryland corn, lardons of bacon, fresh basil slivers, arugula and glorious Maryland blue crab...and white truffle! Hooked's tagline, "fresh . honest . local" isn't just there for show, it's their mantra. Their raison d'être, as it were. The quiet, intimate, yet casual space hummed with a professional, knowledgeable, yet friendly and accommodating staff. Our waiter knew every nuance of the menu and answered every question thoroughly. Dealing with this gluten-free diner/cocktail geek isn't an easy task, you know. Yet he did so with a smile. Dessert? Too full. And we had the rest of the week to worry about looking good(?) on the beach. We did each have another cocktail though. Hooked Orange Crushes all around, please. Mmmmmm...mightly fine dessert. read more

Based on the 4 & half star rating I came here with high expectations, here's what was ordered: Chesapeake gold oyster: $2 each, mild, but tiny. Fried calamari: VERY salty, smothered in sauce, which means after a few minutes the crispy fried layer is soggy. Did I mention it was salty? Corn and crab bisque: someone dumped a ton of salt in it, and with a word like bisque you'd expect a soup that was thick, but this was more of a watery consistency. Order this if you'd like to spike your blood pressure. Mussels: best part of the meal, the sauce was similar to the bisque (also salty), and fresh. I don't understand the many stars, but I guess some folks prefer very salty food? But seriously don't come here if you've got high blood pressure. Overall it was $50 worth of very bad experience. read more

Dropped in this past Sunday for a nice meal after playing golf. I was not disappointed. I arrived during happy hour so had nice priced drinks and apps. Def recommend the wings and fried calamari. Definitely a fan of this OC restaurant! What a great recommendation from my OC friend. The restaurant has an outdoor patio and two indoor levels. The place is upscale, low lighting, intimate tables; every detail is attended to so that the dining experience is exceptional. I opted to dine at the upstairs bar which was quieter. The bartender was attentive. He greeted me immediately with a smile - very welcoming. He asked for my drink order and proceeded to fix the perfect Grapefruit Crush. He recommended that I start with the corn, jalapeño and crab bisque, I was leery of the jalapeno because I'm not into the hot and spicy food thing but at his urging, I tried the bisque anyway -- so glad that I did because it was EXCEPTIONAL! A must try. The visit to Hooked was worth it just for the bisque! For my main course I elected to have the scallops wrapped in bacon (ummmm bacon) and a side of cheesy grits both were wonderful. The scallops were rich in taste and delectable - the perfect amount of seasoning and enhanced by the juicy delicious bacon. The grits were creamy and cheesy -- a treat in themselves for a discriminating grit lover like me. Finally, dessert, bread pudding with maple syrup, and vanilla ice cream with bacon. Again, a big score. I wasn't really a fan of the bacon in my ice cream but next time, and there will definitely be a next time, I know that I can order the ice cream sans bacon. I started this review giving Hooked 4 stars and thinking they were more a 4.5; however, reliving the experience made me realize that there were no flaws here -- beautiful restaurant, great service and exceptional food makes this a 5-Star! Strongly urge you to make tracks to Hooked when you are in Ocean City, MD. read more

We went on a Friday night when the place was relatively empty. We were seated upstairs at a two-top, which was a bit tight but fine. The retired locals, off-season vacationers, and young delmarva yuppies coming in for the weekend clearly think this is the high life, complete with pretentious conversations about careers, second homes, and leisure activities galore. My fellow customers aside, the service was wanting. Our server kept coughing, excusing himself to go somewhere else (where?), making drinks at the bar (not for us), neglecting to take our order for quite some time, as well as neglecting water refills. Food was the high point, but only relatively speaking. I had pork belly carbonara with tagliatelle, which was good but the sauce was almost broken and the pork belly made it a little bit too oily. He had monkfish and said he liked it. We also shared calamari and Brussels sprouts, which were really good. Bread was a light and fluffy focaccia which was good but not great. Overall, the food was good, but combined with service and price, I would not go back. read more

It was our first time in OC for a long weekend over Memorial Day. Not knowing where to dine our first night we let Yelp guide us to Hooked. We were definitely impressed. Food was absolutely delicious. They have a nice craft beer selection which our craft beer lovers enjoyed but HELLO they have Natty Light on draft! Be still my heart!!! This is the very first time I have been able to have Natty Light on draft I was super stoked! We started w/ a few appetizers Truffle Fries (very addictive I found myself going back for more), Calamari w/ the sauce on the side (wow best calamari I've had to date. Super crispy, fresh, and flavorful! We ended up ordering a second batch!) and some raw oyster which the guys said were incredible! For our entrees we decided to go w/ sandwiches & burgers. The Bacon & Booze burger was delicious! The Pig N Oyster was the star of the sandwiches...amazing! The pork belly on that sandwich was insanely good. The only disappointment that night was I had gone back & forth on whether or not to get the scallop dish...I ended up choosing the Chicken Chesapeake instead, well a few minutes after placing our order our waiter walked by w/ an order of the scallops for another table and I instantly knew I had chose poorly. The scallop dish looked incredible! My chicken sandwich was good but I have to say it was the least favorite of the dishes we ordered. When we went to pay I asked about the scallop dish and our waiter informed us that almost every table orders them. So I guess next time we are in town I'll be back to get them! read more

In a sea of of corn dog stands, Thrasher's Fries outlets, and Candy Kitchens in every strip mall, there is a city invaded by an army of vacationers with fanny packs dangling from bloated bellies taking a weekend out of the Double Wide to worship at the culinary shrine of mediocrity. You have arrived in Ocean City, MD and adrift in this vast sea of fast food, there it is, just up ahead...Hooked. The restaurant's hook is "Fresh, Honest, Local", which may describe the staff more than the food. The place is run by a gaggle of cheerful cherubs, who know what they're doing, for the most part and for whom they are doing it, for the most part. Its like going to a Puppy Park as the little lollipops hustle platters, plates, and trays from the kitchen to the tables. They do it efficiently and with a smile as wide as some of the fannies on the Boardwalk. (Kim Kardashian, eat your heart out). Now, did the food hook me? Not exactly. The Wedge Salad was, well, a quartered wedge of Iceberg lettuce, bleu cheese which shows up here and there in several other dishes. There were a few halved cherry tomatoes, micro bacon chips, (next they will serve bacon dust) and chive crumbs, (whatever they are). A pickled onion had been dragged weeping over the 3 wedge quarters and a ladle of thin bleu cheese aioli drizzled over the whole pile. Hmm...only because I am supposed to eat my vegetables. The bread service consisted of one piece per person of Rosemary Focaccia soaked in garlic and olive oil. It was like eating a wet sponge. There were some dinner options, which candidly I passed up in favor of grazing on a row of "Fresh Starts". (a typo?). I had Buttermilk Battered Fried Oysters with a Spicy Mayo. (Mayo with Sriracha). This was followed by some Bacon Wrapped Scallops with more Spicy Mayo? And then Jerk Chicken Wings with, let's say it together, Spicy Mayo. Oy Vey-o...hold the Mayo. The oysters were decent enough, and so were the scallops but they came swaddled in almost raw bacon. So, off that came. The scallops were tender but the bacon should have been par-cooked first until they rendered out, and then wrapped around the scallops before getting a turn in the Salamander. The Jerk Chicken Wings (4) were carved off a pterodactyl. They were huge, fatty, slightly underdone, as in not crisp, and required creative Greco-Roman wrestling to tackle the meat and wrest it from the bone. Both the scallops and chicken wings sat on Succotash which was okay as a platform but seemed to show up in various other dishes as much as the Spicy Mayo. The Roasted Corn and Jalapeno Crab Bisque was a cup of Bechamel Sauce with spicy deconstructed Succotash. It sounded amusing...on paper. The Cup of Garlicky (sp) Spinach was just that. A cup of wilted spinach and slivers of steamed garlic. The Baby Garlic 'n Parmesan Steak Frites were as soft as a Comfort Inn pillow. Ain't they supposed to be crisp outside and creamy inside? Ask Ludo Lefevre at Petit Trois in LA, he'll tell you. Never mind, he won't answer the phone as he is too busy slingin' great Frites and eats. All in all, if you're in Ocean City, MD. you'll do well to dine here, but remember this is a town where Cotton Candy gets battered, fried and served in Styrofoam containers to lines of eager eaters. The same folks that designed Bourbon St. in the French Quarter of New Orleans as a tourist Mecca are bringing you the dining options in Ocean City, MD. Was I rooked at Hooked? No, not really. There is a nice collection of local brews and acceptable cocktails to help drown your dining sorrows. The owners are nice people, the staff genuinely attentive, helpful and charming. The food just doesn't measure up to, say, the Henlopen City Oyster House just one Ocean City up the road in Delaware. Maybe, save your seafood jones for there. read more
