Missy, our waitress was very helpful and friendly and got the drink adjusted with more Bailey's for me. I had the shrimp (5) which were large and good, not greasy. I got fries and coleslaw. My husband had the catch of the day which came with a choice of vegetables. Savannah gave us tips on where to go when it was raining, so that was nice. read more

Stayed in the hotel and we used to dine at the Captain's Table when it was on the first floor. They still have the piano, a nice bar, and by Ocean City standards is quite elegant. The restaurant feels like the converted hotel breakfast nook it is. When we got there, despite being 7:00, all the blinds were closed so you could not see out any of the windows to the charming town. Our waitress was frazzled by several large tables at once. She was attentive but it always felt like we were putting her out. We have been visiting Captain's Table in Ocean City, MD for over ten years. We've enjoyed many memorable dinners there, but the quality has steadily declined, and last night may well be our last visit. We arrived at 8:45 p.m. (the restaurant now closes at 10 p.m.). Our server, Jacob, was new but clearly trying hard--he was not the problem. Our party of six ordered soups, salads, and entrées: two shrimp-and-scallop risottos, two 14-ounce ribeyes, and one fish of the day. It wasn't an especially complicated order. Bread arrived cold at 9:15 p.m. The soups came out in two waves and were the best part of the meal--the French onion was spot-on. Jacob then informed us they were out of béarnaise sauce (and a few other items). The risottos arrived only two minutes after the soups. That's when things went downhill. My risotto had a strange smell as soon as it was set down. After finishing my soup I tasted it and found it off--almost bitter, with far too much garlic (or possibly rancid garlic) and an unappealing red grease around the plate. The shrimp and scallops themselves were mediocre. My son's risotto tasted fine to him; when we compared the two dishes, his was clearly better and mine was simply wrong. The steaks arrived next. Both had been ordered medium-rare. One came out medium-well; the other was stiff and well-done. The diners who ordered them both grimaced after the first cut. Sides dribbled out of the kitchen over the next half-hour; one cream of spinach, then they ran out of the second order of creamed spinach, and the final baked potato finally appeared at 10:01 p.m., a full 45 minutes after the early risotto. We chose not to send anything back, but we did mention the problems to Jacob. He made no effort to involve a manager or otherwise make things right. By this point I was not feeling well. I made my way to the restroom and was sick, returning the scallops, shrimp, and the small portion of risotto I had eaten To the sea. I felt better afterward. Captain's Table has a long history of good meals for our family, but the slow decline over the years, combined with this night's problems (overcooked steaks, a clearly off risotto, glacial pacing, and no attempt to fix anything), was the tipping point. We were seated quickly and the questions we had about the menu were answered fully. I ordered the catch.if the day, Mahi Mahi, and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. How lucky is it to find five star dining in a resort town in season where you can find parking? There was street parking and overflow parking across the street but I was lucky enough to find a spot in the garage and I didn't abuse the privilege I was done in an hour. Their offering's here are in The five star realm. The service here is very good. Although bigger parties do seem to get slightly better service. I tried three or four entrées here already in the last four months. I know my last visit three days ago I had the prime rib special. It was reasonably priced and the vegetables that accompanied it were fabulous. And this time I had the John Daly cocktail which was interesting and amply filled with alcohol. At $10 I didn't feel like I got ripped off. I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're looking for a place with pretty views, comfortable seating, a nice bar and really good food , this is a place I recommend in Ocean City. read more

How convenient to have a fine restaurant located in the lobby of the hotel where you are staying! We arrived mid May for a 3 night stay in OC. My first visit to OC was in 1974 and many successive years after with my last visit in 2012. A lot has changed including Captains Table. I can remember dining here 40 -50 years ago when it was a ground level restaurant. Now, it's located on the 3rd Level (Lobby Level) of the Marriott Courtyard on 15th and Boardwalk. A complete different experience and love the Piano Man! We made a 6:30 reservation and were escorted to our table by the window. Cocktails arrived quickly (Old Fashioned and Cosmopolitan) and shortly after so did our appetizers of Local Oysters and Cream of Crab soup. The Oysters were served cooked, not raw. That was kind of a surprise. Our waitress said they were from the Chesapeake but did not understand why they were served cooked? My girlfriend didn't mind and enjoyed them. My Cream of Crab soup was delicious with many lumps of crab. For entree's she had the Lobster Stir Fry and I had the Surf and Turf. The lobster came shelled except for the tail which was served split. Lobster was fresh, tasty, and she enjoyed the spicy flavor along with the Jasmine rice. My Surf and Turf was equally enjoyable with 2 small filets on top of creamy mash potato with crab cake stuffed shrimp. Nothing was left on our plates. Our dinner for two, including drinks, was just under $200 without tip. Although this might be a bit pricey for a family dinner while on vacation it was the perfect spot for the two of us and we enjoyed our food, service, and will most certainly visit again. read more

The staff here is exceptional. The restaurant is nice, better than so much of tourist trap food here in ocmd, but somehow you still feel like it is a hotel restaurant. I have been coming to ocmd for a few weeks a year since 1966 and have tried many many many places from take out joints to fine dining. I have my "must go" places and others I would "consider again" (and even more places of "never again") and would put this in the "consider again" category and explore the menu more to see if it can make it to the "must go" lost (which only has about 4-5 places currently). Things like over-pricing, snobbery, uncleanliness, poor/mediocre food quality, etc. are big for demerits for us. This place pretty much does well in all of those categories. If it faced the ocean more, it would be beautiful and may make up for other non-wow things. Still four stars is a good score! read more

Tried this place after looking at reviews when we were in OC for the weekend. Nice place easy parking and very pleasant hostess. i ordered the French onion soup, big lobster tail with green beans and my wife ordered the chicken with crab imperial. My French onion soup was fantastic with a lot of cheese and great flavor. The lobster tail was very disappointing being so salty and i thought it was the butter for dipping but it was the tail. I should've not eating it but i was hoping for the best. The beans were done perfectly. My wife's chicken was cooked perfectly but the crab imperial was so dry she couldn't eat it. We explained our complaints to the waitress who was wonderful and she took some off the bill. Maybe since its the off time of the year and a slow time but the food should have been the same. One of my favorite restaurants in OC. Conveniently located at the Marriot Courtyard on the Boardwalk. I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food has been great every time. The staff are awesome and entertaining from the hostess, to the servers, to the bartenders. Restaurants offers limited view of the city and beach. It is very spacious. I recently popped in for dessert. I was impressed with their cobbler version. It was truely a homemade dish with generous portions. Definitely check out this restaurant if in the area. read more

Our first stop on the family vacation. The piano man was the main reason we wanted this spot. If you come on a piano night, ask to be close. The back area you won't hear or see him. Our cocktails were an old fashioned and a coconut Martini. Her's was incredible and my old fashioned was a top 2 ever. We started with a cocktail shrimp. Normal shrimp. You get a wedding cocktail hour. My main meal was the Steak Frites. The shallot fries, combine with the butter on the steak, was so good. Home run. My wife had the captains crab cake. This was filled with crab. They are not cheap on filling it with breadcrumbs. She said best crab cake ever. We wanted to stay for dessert, but we have a 2 year old. Service was great. We have dined here multiple times and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is family friendly, but also a perfect place for a date night.
