Found this little treat just a block and a half from my hotel. Came in around 5:25, just in time to catch the end of their fabulous happy hour, offering drink and food discounts. The staff was really welcoming and cheerful as I entered, even offering my a place at the end of the bar where I could charge my phone. Rental car had only cigarette-lighter type of charger, which shocked me in 2021. Anyway, bartender was constantly busy the whole time, but she was super-attentive, adding her own menu recommendations. These included: corn salad, I believe they called it-Mexican street corn, which was deliciously charred. Also had the sweet potato, brisket and pork carnitas mini-tacos. The food arrived really fast. Washed these down a pineapple-mezcal drink that was tasty and smoky, and then a generous $3 Negra Modelo. Enjoyed the people-watching here, too. They turned the tables fast and customers looked happy. After a tip that was well-earned, still got out of here for ~$30. Wish I had one of these at home. read more

I moved to another state last year but I visit Omaha frequently & hook & lime is one of my favorite places to go! I'm not vegetarian but they do have plenty of vegetarian options. The chips & trio dip is one of my favorites because the pineapple salsa is just perfect; you can definitely taste the cilantro, but it helps balance the sweetness of the pineapple along with the zesty combo of other ingredients. The first time I went there it wasn't great. I saw so many great reviews and decided to try it again. I'm the food came out in less that 6 minutes.... Both times the tacos were cold and not very flavorful. I got sweet potato, shrimp, tuna tacos. My friend got the overnight brisket taco. The brisket and shrimp were cold. I assume the tuna was supposed to be cold so that's fine. The sweet potato tacos were burning hot. Kitchen Timing a little off? I got the lemon lavender marg which was good. Nice place, friendly waitress, but food was only ok and overpriced. Ordered the guacamole and chips. The chips were oily and cold. The guacamole resembled an avocado that had been quartered then served. Other ingredients were very sparse due to the monster avocado pieces. More attention to detail and warm, dress Chile's would have been better. Had two tacos to go along with the chips. We decided to stop here for some dinner and drinks prior to a Saturday night Jays basketball game. This is roughly a 5 minute walk to the arena. When I am back in town again, I will more than likely come back here prior to a game. I ended up getting two different margaritas, which were both on happy hour. Their happy hour on Saturdays goes from 3-6 pm, which significantly cuts down the cost of a margarita and will give you a few bucks off some food as well. I don't think I would have been as pleased with this restaurant if it were not for the great prices we got during happy hour. I tried the Lemon and Lavender margarita first and it was delightful. I opted for a sugar instead of a salt rim, which I think was the best way to go. This drink was light and refreshing and would be perfect for a summer afternoon. The second margarita I tried was the Pineapple Mezcalita, which I tried only because they were out of the ingredients for the Lavender margarita. I expected the pineapple drink to be more fruity and sweet, but instead was met with similar flavors to a whiskey drink. I would only recommend this margarita if you are not a fan of sweeter drinks. For food, we shared their trio salsa dips which were all on the sweet to mild side. If you are looking for spice, this is not the dip platter for you. I also had a Chile and Beer Braised Chicken taco, which was quite good. The only complaints we had as a group on our tacos, was that the meat was pretty dry across the board (except for the brisket). It seemed like a quick fix for this would have been a tiny bit more sauce on each taco. read more

Heard lots of recommendations from friends to try out Hook and Lime and it did not disappoint. If you love spicy sauces, you may be a little disappointed. My boyfriend who loves spicy food mentioned that the sauces provided (three to choose from) weren't spicy at all. Overall, we loved all our dishes in addition to the out door seating! read more

This place was awful. They were out of most of the margaritas listed on menu. I ordered 2 tacos after striking out with the first 5 orders and waitress failed to put in. Ordered 3 salsas, got 2. ordered chorizo dip and they forgot the chorizo, but don't worry, you get to pay for it all because we ate it trying to find the chorizo. Manager was awful. Basically told us he didn't care and it's the only location "in the world" so it does not matter. Food was below average in taste. Stay away! read more

After being seated we waited about 10 minutes before I flagged a waiter down to see if we'd be served. We had to ask twice to get our table wiped down. They make their own house tonic syrup. I had a tequila and tonic and the house syrup was a sugary mess. I then ordered a tequila with soda water and the bar tender had to come over to confirm I didn't want their crappy syrup. We all had tacos which were quite tasty but at $6 dollars each I won't be back. Not that good. The guac was bland. Maybe if they added a little cilantro or lime they could have saved it. The chips really were the star at this place. The ceviche also just tasted a bit to fishy. Over $100 later for three people I was full but not satisfied. There are way too many other options around so I won't be back. They gave us coupons for free drinks on our next visit but those aren't enough for me to go back. Decided to go back for a second chance since we had the bar ticket coupon. It was Deja Vu, we were seated in the same booth and almost ten minutes later I had to flag someone down to get served. It was only 5:30 and they were not very busy so not sure what the deal here. I increased my rating to 4 stars though because I really enjoyed the food tonight. The server was very friendly and offered my wife some tortillas instead of chips since the chips were fried in a shared fryer and therefore not gluten free. The tacos really hit the spot and I really enjoyed the charred shishito peppers and the charred half salad. We may come back sometime in the future. To start, I am a trained chef, I have a BS in hospitality management, and have owned and managed (and every other god-awful gig this industry offers up) restaurants for many, many years. Above all else, I'm a diner. I enjoy food. I like to eat. High end Michelin star extravaganzas and Waffle House smothered and covered fare. Really, I'm not a food snob but I expect truth in menu and authenticity. This brings me to Hook and Lime, a pseudo-hip taqueria in downtown Omaha. Yes, Omaha alright? Don't worry, expectations were level set before entering this establishment that was only steps away from my mid-tier Marriott. My go to at any taqueria is a Torta Al Pastor. Delicious grilled pork, spices, hint of pineapple, on a grilled bollio roll with lettuce, refried beans, tomato, onion, etc. I'm not sure about cleanliness, but a well prepared Torta Al Pastor is certainly next to godliness. What I received at Hook and Lime was more closely akin to a pork French dip. A wet, nondescript hoagie roll, guacamole, and a loose mix of somewhat spicy (but not really well executed) pork bits. To be fair, if the sandwich were advertising as a spicy pork / guacamole dip (which I can get behind), it would be a decent to good sandwich. However, a Torta Al Pastor it is not. In fact, it borders on blasphemy to compare what I received to a dish that is so well executed at even the smallest and most humble taquerias that I'm left for words. It really seems like someone doesn't care or just failed to do the homework. Then there were the Esquites or Mexican Street Corn. Not only was this dish served ice cold (WTF?) but the server looked at me as if I was crazy for asking (very politely) to put it on the grill. Again, know your concept Hook and Lime- - you're not proficent enough in your trade to menu a "chilled Esquites" without menuing it as such. You're just lazy because it's an easy prep. Again, I'm in Omaha but that's not an excuse! They have the internet here. Heck, there is a fantastic university across the street! Warren Buffet is blocks away! Hook and Line - please do better. Hook and Lime - please want to do better. Ask yourselves what an authentic Torta Al Pastor looks like. Ask yourselves if what you're doing represents the very best that you can do (on a Tuesday night - not just the weekend). Omaha deserves better and you could do it. I'm rooting for you. read more

I'm in Omaha for the 2021 CWS (College World Series for you non-baseball people) with my husband & son. They went to ALL 3 GAMES, while I stayed back at the hotel & watched the games on ESPN (the tickets were insane). I splurged on dinner & spent $88 before tip. I am SO HAPPY I gave the Hook & Lime a try! I decided to try ALL 6 tacos for dinner. We had a mid morning brunch & I was starving! I was also planning to get the biggest margarita possible to drink while watching the championship game (so more food was a good call!). I'M A BIG MARGARITA SNOB, and the Cilantro Lime Margarita did not disappoint!! Great flavor & very strong. I got a QUART! It was mixed to perfection w/o ice. The bartender gave me 4 clear Solo cups to go with it ... I'm currently on my 2nd glass (with hotel ice) & have a nice buzz. If you are a lightweight & walking/driving order appropriately. I might be snoring when my fellas make it back from the game (if I am able to finish). Dang, it's good & was worth EVERY PENNY!! My favorite tacos in order from top to bottom are as follows - #1 Best Chile Grilled Shrimp. Tie for 2nd/3rd Overnight Brisket/Crispy Sweet Potato. #4 Beer Battered Cod. #5 Pork Carnitas. #6 Last (but still very yummy) Chile Beer Braised Chicken. ALL of the tacos were quite tasty & I would happily eat ANY of them again. For my side, I got the corn salad. While I was slightly disappointed that it was summer & fresh corn would have been EPIC-the corn salad was still delicious. I got a piece of the key lime vegan cheesecake as my dessert (for those unfamiliar with vegan "cheese," it DOES NOT have the same mouth feel/texture as dairy cream cheese cheesecakes). IT WAS DELIGHTFUL!! I was going to save a bite for my husband & son, but I didn't . I appreciated that there were lots of Gluten-free & Vegan options. Located at North Downtown Entertainment District by the TD Ameritrade Park, Hook and Lime is a fancier Mexican restaurant with a modern, vibrant, and relaxing atmosphere that serves Mexican small plates with an emphasis on seafood. This is not your typical Mexican place where your plate is overflowing with rice and beans, etc. What you get here is quality food at a smaller portion at an above average price. The tacos are $4.25/each, but they are specTACOlar - you will be "hooked" after just one bite! I ordered several to try: (1) Smoked Ocean Trout* (2) Overnight Brisket* (3) Pork Carnitas* (4) Beer & Chile Braised Chicken. The brisket was the most memorable for me - it was so flavorful, so juicy, and it just melts in your mouth! The margaritas were fantastic too - "100 percent agave tequilas, fresh-squeezed juices and house-made infusions and syrups" says on the menu lol Reservations are definitely recommended since they are extremely busy. Our margaritas were always empty and we had to hunt down our server to get more! Quality food takes time, and it takes even longer due to their high customer volume. Our non-alcoholic friends definitely complained about our ONE hour wait for the food. But the rest of us alcoholics didn't really notice since we had margaritas to keep us busy lol. I was a little disappointed that our "free" chips & salsa never came - then I saw it on the menu "Salsa Trio (+ House Salsa, Verde, Negra, & House Chips) $8.50" You can taste how fresh the salsa was, and the chips were warm! Don't bother. Find a dive. I realize this is Omaha, but this is fru-fru Mexican food. You are paying for aesthetic not quality. The tortillas were too fragile to support the meat. If the fillings had been flavorful, the tortilla issue could have been overcome, but sadly it was just ok. The side items (corn salad, rice, beans) tasted dry as if they had been dished up in advance. We didn't complain loudly. The waitress was polite, but didn't seem overly concerned about our dissatisfaction. Perhaps there is nothing she could do or she is used to hear it. We weren't drinking alcohol. Well, it's about time that NoDo (North Downtown) got some decent food! North downtown is arguably the closest thing that Omaha has to an artist/arts district, with the Slowdown concert venue, Hot Shops art studios and Filmstreams leading the charge years ago. It's got plenty of hidden buildings tucked around housing creative minds of all types. It's always been a wonder to me as to why the culinary arts never made its way down here too. Now, we're seeing tremendous growth down here in terms of hotels, bars, and businesses, and maybe Hook and Lime will be the first original concept for other culinary visions to migrate away from the Old Market/Downtown and into NoDo. If your memory can stretch far enough, the retail space used to be American Apparel, but has sat unoccupied for years. I walk my dog by daily and wondered when this piece of real estate would get a facelift, hoping for something original yet casual, inexpensive and quick like Amsterdam in Dundee. With the Centurylink, Ballpark, movies, and Slowdown there has to be a (stable yummy) place for patrons to eat before/after their events! The opening of Hook and Lime was greatly anticipated by me, as I watched the progress day after day when walking by. So how do they measure up? Cute little bar and hightops greet you as you walk in the door. Low tops and booths as you turn the corner. Statement reclaimed wood wall and great vibe and decor. Lovely bathrooms! I believe this is a from scratch kitchen, with everything from tortillas and chips made by the hands of the kitchen, and I thought the food was flavorful, thoughtful, and original. Not quite at my 5 star rating but that's not to say it can't achieve it with time. It's also very similar in it's shared plates/sit down/modern Mexican approach as Mula in Blackstone. H&L is definitely a sit down place, and I wouldn't say the things we ordered would do well "to-go"; as presentation, plating, and family style are all concepts here. Also, no one likes soggy chips and tortilla to go. I am sure the menu will continue to evolve, but my favorites at this time included the salsa sampler, Elote, and the carnitas taco. I didn't even mind that we had a billion plates on the table. So, this IS the place for casual lengthy drinks and dinner with friends or dates, or a sit down nice dinner before and after your event. It's also a bit pricey-you'll easily spend $15/person to be satisfied, and prob closer to $20 to be full (without drinks). Give yourself at least 1-1/5 hours to dine here- it's not a quick in and out type of place. Plus- they have pretty awesome late hours. Although it wasn't the "Amsterdam" I was looking for, hopefully something similar that is more street food-centric; cheap with quick in and out will also develop here soon. I've been anticipating the opening of Hook & Lime for months now and so we finally got a chance to drop by for a meal this evening. It was worth the wait. I believe Hook & Lime will become one of the more popular anchor restaurants in the new downtown entertainment district. This place will be a big hit with visitors at the CWS this summer. So, do yourself a favor and come in now before the crowds get so crazy. We had a nice mix of small plates tonight. Queso Fundido, a melty, gooey mound of cheese served with corn tortillas made a great "DIY" type quesadilla plate. Delicious, warm, cheese. Damn it. That's great stuff right there! Then we had the chicken adobo taco and a carnitas taco. So good! Both were made so well and presentation was awesome too. I really liked the chicken, but when it came time to order a couple more tacos, there was no second thought before order a couple more of the carnitas tacos. Absolutely fantastic, flavorful, crispy chunks of sous vide pork was the star. And we had the camerones con papas (shrimp and potatoes with caramelized onions in a delicious sauce). The shrimp are huge and served with head on. These were so good, but of the whole meal, probably the only miss. Partially, my issue was my preference of having shrimp already shelled if it's served in a sauce. So, that's just my personal preference. But also, we noted the shrimp were just a bit on the chewy (possibly overcooked) side. Still, pretty tasty. Our server, Jane also gets great marks. She was so kind and efficient and quick with drinks and so knowledgeable about the food and how it was prepared. Came here for a quick margarita and some apps, this place knows how to do their tequila cocktails. Fish tacos were pretty decent and the atmosphere inside is nice, but it also gets quite popular and can become crowded in no time. Again, the tequila selection is extensive and their cocktail menu goes to show that they spend a fair amount of time crafting this liquor into exquisitely tasty creations.. drop by for their cocktails and light bites!! read more

We always love coming to Hook and Lime to support local. This time was a lot more plesant than the last as the waitress was more personable and acted like she actually wanted to wait on us (she even loved how my husband helped remove and put back on my coat and stood for me each time I returned to the table!) I had the birria tacos which I probably won't order again because they were just mediocre, I love flavor and they were flavorful but you really couldn't distinguish all the flavors because the sauce. My husband tried 3 different tacos (I had to try his) and my favorite was the brisket one, it was bursting with flavor.. we also tried the chorizo fundito tiny dish for the price and could use more meat than a tiny sprinkle on top.. Over all still on our must stop list but we will continue with the different tortas as we know we won't be disappointed, OH and the plethora of hot sauces are to die for.. Mexican tapas with a hipster atmosphere is how I would sum up the Hook and Lime dining experience. Started with some small plates of guacamole and chips, queso fundido, and Elotes (Grilled corn on the cob). All three were delicious. Guacamole was the best of the three. Queso was great but extra small of a plate. I had smoke trout tacos and Esquites corn salad as the side. Tacos were delicious but the corn salad did not have any flavor. If you've been wondering whether or not to give this place a shot...you should. They are *so* good. My husband and I ordered 2 tacos apiece and decided to split them all in half so that we could each try 4 haha. We just couldn't narrow it down to two! Honestly, the entire menu looked tasty. But we ended up settling on the beer battered cod, overnight brisket, carnitas pork and chile-lime shrimp. In order of our favorites we both agreed: Brisket, Cod, Carnitas, Shrimp. The brisket was really smoky and just had a tiny bit of heat. The cod wasn't battered as heavily as it looked in the pictures, which was a relief. The carnitas pork was good and the radishes added a touch of welcome crunch. The shrimp in the Chile Lime taco were cooked perfectly and the slaw was really tasty. All of them were outstanding. I also ordered the Lemon Lavender margarita and it was perfect: Not too tequila-y and not too sweet. Hubs ordered the Blackberry and Lemon which was good but not as good as mine :) Worth mentioning: Our waitress sucked. I'm still giving the restaurant 5 stars because the food and drinks were on point, but definitely hoping the next time I'll have a better one.
