I am not sure why this office has such negative reviews. If you read the requirements and prepare as they suggest, you won't have any issues at all. We booked a FASTPASS appointment so our documents were green-lit well ahead of time. Appointment was booked for 10/27/25 at 12:45pm. It was a little hard to get them on the phone but they answered my emails super fast whenever I asked questions. We arrived at 12:30pm to be a few minutes early, and we were done by 1:30pm. Service was as fast as it could be, and all of the staff was incredibly friendly! The process was smooth. When we arrived we checked in, and waited 5 minutes for them to call us back up. When they called us back up they confirmed all the FASTPASS documents were good to go, and had us sign some additional disclosures. Since the inspection crews go to lunch daily (mandated by their union) we had to wait until they returned for the inspection process. No biggie. I was able to drive into the inspection area at exactly 1pm. We didn't professionally detail the vehicle but thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed at home. Passed the inspection in about 20 minutes and we were on our way. People tend to leave bad reviews but often forget to leave the good ones. Don't be scared, prepare well in advance, and you will be smooth sailing. read more

I came back to the VPC on Monday morning to try and drop my neighbors car off again. Surprisingly, everything went smooth. Once again, huge shoutout to the Uncles at the front gate! They stay locked in with the tunes and they always seem to be having a great day. I was able to sign in and only had to wait for about 10 minutes before I was served. I got to the window and the young lady asked me if I was there on Friday. I answered her question and then let her know to ensure that there's no signature missing this time. I'm sure they flipped through the paperwork about four or five times just to double check. She let me know everything was straight and then sent me to the next stage which is vehicle inspection. Vehicle inspection went so well due to Auntie Ann! It really is a huge shoutout to her as well because she did the inspection so quick and even thanked me for washing the car and my patience. This visit was way better than the last and I believe everyone's visit should be like this. I definitely enjoy working with the representatives outside more. read more

Came here to ship one of my cars with an appt and it was so simple I was in and o out in 20minutes ! Now the second car was tricky because the lien holder didn't want to sign our documents which obviously was not the fault of the VPC the girls are also kind and the manager made my kids day with lollies it honestly was. Great experience . Did I wait 7 hrs yes and that's just the rules of the game . Would recommend an appt but the people there make it bearable. read more

Went here and was in and out. My original appointment was 1245 appt but I decided to come an hour early for peace of mind and just to see if they'd take me early, I signed in and had used the fast pass feature so my documents were approved ahead of time. I personally got my car detailed, but a thorough clean can do the trick, I passed the inspection with flying colors. The best advice I can give is be prepared, schedule your appointment months in advance, submit paperwork via fast pass as early as possible, clean your vehicle thoroughly, ensure you make it to your appointment on time or even come early and make sure your tank is below 1/4, those are the biggest reasons people get turned away. As others have stated, whether the service and speed here is excellent or poor is the luck of the draw. I had an appointment, did the fast pass, met all requirements, and was turned away for a form not listed on their website as required because I requested to ship the vehicle to a VPC other than the one in my orders. I had already done the counseling with the HHG/JPPSO office at the Aloha Center (Navy/Airforce side) including verifying allowances associated with me having my vehicle delivered to another location. Still, I was not given a form to verify no additional expense to the government. Like others, my appointment time came and went, and I ended up in the VPC 3 times in one day (twice as a "walk-in" as they close the appointments out regardless of why you are turned away), only to come back the next day to get the job done. It is also worth noting that the Stevedores (workers outside) have a union-negotiated lunch period that will put them out of commission for 1.5-2 hours every day without fail, even though the staff inside continues working in shifts to get through customers. If you have the flexibility, I'd suggest coming when they open the doors at 0700 so you can handle any surprises that may come up. It is worth noting that the Military Liaison there is top-notch, so if you think the workers there are not giving you a fair shake, ask to speak to her. If you have more than one vehicle, you'll appreciate how simple the process is when you don't have to use the VPC's draconian processes. Also, there is a car wash at a nearby gas station, so if you get turned away for exterior cleaning, they can wash the car and towel dry it for ~$28. Best of luck! read more

Came here to ship my car with an appointment. I had all the paperwork completed beforehand, however it still took two hours for them to complete my paperwork. They go to lunch from 1145-1300 so don't even think about coming early if you have an appointment at 1245. Got here at 1145, wasn't finished until 1400. They are lazy, inefficient and rude. read more

I filed my paperwork two months in advance and it still has not been processed. The whole point was to ensure all my documents were on file and good to go. They rarely answer their phone, I have included a picture of how many times I had to call before getting someone on the line. When I did get someone, they pretended they couldn't hear me and hung up. I am off today so I have nothing but time and kept calling. When I finally reached them again, they keep saying it will be done soon. Keep in mind I gave them the paperwork months in advance. I was 16 minutes late for my appointment; 100% my fault. Appointment was at 7am but ended up being a walk-in. It took about an hour and a half to get called and sort through my paperwork. Then I passed pre-inspection pretty quick. The guy was nice and had a rag he suggested I wipe down the water spots. My fuel was JUST over 1/4 tank so he instructed me to drive around and burn some fuel off per Coast Guard regulation. Frustrated, but again 100% my fault. Once back I waited 10 minutes for the actual inspection. I was done before 10, so about a 3 hour process. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND SHOW UP ON TIME! Vacuum the inside and wash the outside. I shipped a two-door Jeep that was our beach ride and I have a golden retriever that rides with me constantly. There was still some sand and hair, but I passed inspection. It doesn't have to be professionally cleaned, do your best. They provide a box to put stuff in that you want shipped with your car read more

I don't think I've ever been as angry, in my entire life, as I was after my experience here at the Honolulu VPC. I booked my appointment for 12:45, weeks in advance, and even took advantage of the "fast pass" option that allowed you to upload your documents ahead of time. What should have been an easy drop-off turned into a rage-inducing, time and money-wasting effort of epic proportions. The check-in process was smooth enough thanks to my pre-uploaded documentation. After which, I was instructed to drive my vehicle around to the pre-inspection. I mistakenly had 1/2 tank of gas instead of the "non-negotiable" 1/4 tank, so I was promptly turned away and given a contact to an auto-shop that would siphon some gas. The inspector told me it could be done in about an hour and I could come right back. He even took my name down. So I drove ~45 min round trip, and $75 later, arrived back at the VPC only to be turned away AGAIN because they "don't accept walk-ins after 2pm" (the time was 2:20p)...I said I wasn't a walk-in, I had an earlier appointment and was told to come right back after correcting the gas issue. The check-in staff adamantly refused to accept me and told me I had to come back another day. This was not possible as I was leaving island before the VPC re-opened (this was a Friday, and Monday a holiday). They casually handed me a "letter of authorization" form and said someone else could ship it for me. Uhhhh, no. I do NOT want to inconvenience other people to ship my vehicle when I have all the documentation and pre-screening done and I was already there with the vehicle ready to go--detailed, washed, and gas siphoned. Furthermore, there were no additional appointments available for the rest of the month, which meant whoever did ship my vehicle for me would have to wait as a walk-in. I did everything required and was still denied at the finish line. I requested to speak to the manager and she rudely double-downed on their "strict 2pm cutoff" (despite there being 5 other Individuals in the lobby waiting to be processed, presumably as walk-ins). She then told me there was nothing she could do for me today. I was forced to walk out of the VPC humiliated, enraged, and empty-handed. It is absolutely unacceptable that a contracted company, supposedly serving Military service members and their families, is able to act in this manner. I plan to file a formal complaint against this practice (for all the good it will do me). I'd encourage anyone who isn't on a tight budget to ship your vehicle privately, which my spouse had a much easier time with. I wish I had. read more

Zero issues. I made an appointment for 8am, showed up at 714am. I parked and went to the processing station (after being checked for symptoms of COVID including temp check) and was called up to the counter 15 minutes later. After that I drove to the inspection tent and was promptly called up and in/out in 15ish minutes. I did see one gentleman turned away for paperwork issues, just make sure you triple check your paperwork including the transportation office validation on your shipping form. I had to call the transportation office to get that because they forgot. I also made sure the car was absolutely spotless inside and out. I recommend a thorough wash the night before and then get an exterior detail spray to wipe down just before you get there. I'm glad I planned that out because it poured the night before. read more

Be advised!!!! I picked up my vehicle on August 5th... The guy at the VPC asked me to look over the vehicle and then sign the form to release it. He stated if you see anything later just call us. NEVER did he state I had (only) 48 hours to file a claim. I meticulously looked over the vehicle but it was covered with dirt and grime. I saw no obvious dents/damage so I signed his form. About a week later when I took it through a car wash and was wiping it down I noticed four very large 6 inch scratches on the trunk and my back-up camera was damaged. I called the VPC here in Honolulu to report this and it was at the time that the staff told me "You only have 48 hours after you pick up the vehicle to file a claim she wished they had a car wash where they could have wash the vehicle and I might've noticed the scratches" I recommend: As soon as you leave that processing center take your vehicle through a car wash so that you can better examine the paint a little closer and then go over the vehicle meticulously every inch because if you don't you'll be out of pocket like me. read more

Don't believe the hype. Shipping is easy if you follow protocol. Tons of checklists and prep videos provided. Car must be clean, but they tell you that a thousand times prior to your appointment. If you hate cleaning your car, pay the money to ease your mind. Overall, one of the easiest vpc's I've had to deal with. read more

Heard a lot about how challenging the process is here to turn in a car. I came prepared for a very long wait, a detailed inspection looking for any reason to not accept the car and nuanced paperwork issues. Overall, it was a lot better than I expected but definitely still not a cake walk. I did the FastPass (online submit in advance) for my paperwork which definitely helped. There was two forms I would not have likely had if I had not done that because they were not listed as required on the website. Luckily I asked several times if my FastPass was good and they notified me a few days before the appointment to the needed forms and had no issues upon arrival because of that. I really cleaned the car in detail and passed the inspection with no issues. A few people there the same time as me had to do some basic cleaning before they moved on further but it was not as bad (at least when I went through) as some reviews implied (that light dust in a tiny crack would fail you entirely). All of them were generally very clean though. That said I did at least five hours of cleaning of a generally very clean sedan to remove all dirt and leaves from places including under the hood. It's either pass or fail cleanliness so I erred on side of more. read more

I am reading some of these reviews and I am in absolute shock! I am one of those people who takes very good care of their vehicle so washing my car myself was a no-brainer. I would not recommend paying someone 200 hundred plus dollars to "detail your car". My daughter and I did a great job vacuuming it out our sow es rinsed it off and ensure the engine was clean and I had zero problems today shipping my vehicle. I showed up about 20 minutes early was checked in and waited about an hour or so before they got to my vehicle you have to understand they are bringing in and shipping out vehicles so your appointment time just ensures that you get dealt with that day if you have to wait just be patient. I brought my kindle and was able to knock out some journaling as well. Once I did get my car inspected ten minutes! very helpful nice people here. READ what all you need and come prepared to wait. This place does not revolve around you. There are multiple people moving and shipping their cars. They will get to you, I promise. I had great customer service! read more

I am impressed with how well they handled walk-ins. Shipping a car can be difficult and stressful, but this company made it fairly easy. They had it down to a science and assembly line. I arrived about 40 minutes before they opened because I did not have an appointment. As the first person there, it took me about 45 minutes to get through and I got through with no hiccups. Have all of your documents prepared and you should have no problem getting through. No need to go crazy detailing your vehicle with those $250+ interior/exterior cleanings. Their policy is vacuumed and relatively washed on the outside. Everyone was stressing in line prior to inspection, but I didnt see them turn anyone away. read more

I was mixed on all the reviews. I shipped my Jeep from Denver. I called them on a Thursday afternoon to find out my vehicle status. They emailed and called me right back to tell me my vehicle was ready, but there were no appointments until the next week. I decided to show up at 0645 on Friday. There were six appointments and six walk-ins in front of me. They logged us all in and walked us inside. In EXACTLY one hour, I was called. The lady was super nice, friendly, and helped with all my paperwork. Got my car with no issues. Free car wash coupon! Great experience! read more

If I could go to a different VPC, I would but unfortunately this is the only one on Oahu. When I received my car for pick up, missing parts on my car.. I was not refunded the complete amount only a portion. For drop off, you must be on time regardless of traffic, road closures, etc.. because they do not care! You'll be calling them for hours because they barely pick up the phones. I would highly not recommend. read more

So finally on my third stop at this VPC my vehicle is being shipped. First experience was not so great. The wait is sometimes crazy, but not this particular time. Staff not friendly and seem unorganized. I didn't have all the right paperwork and the person "assisting" me kept saying "It's all in the email" and nothing else. The second time I got through the paperwork but the pre inspection was horrible. The person helping me was rude and had an attitude over every question I was asking. I sent an email to the help desk but never received a response. Third time got through the paperwork and pre inspections. The final inspector was older and was not friendly at all. Got through the process, but I hope to never have to deal with this place again. The staff is disgruntled and they need to clean house to get customer service back up. read more

Usually picking up or dropping off our car is a stressful and dreaded affair. The people are usually rude or crabby and the wait seems eternal. I have got to share that our experience with this VPC was the exception. We pulled in a taxi with 9 luggage. The manager allowed us to leave the bags outside with the security guard so that we wouldnt have to drag all 9 pieces with us. The place itself is organized into little office buildings with the restroom centrally located outside between them. You start off at building one for check-in and then eventually you proceed to office 2 or 3 depending on pick up or drop off. The whole place has a chill vibe. I was pleased to see people playing ping pong in office 2 and there was a kids corner (although many of the toys needed some tlc and floor kat was dirty). Everyone was really calm and easy going. We got in and out of there in an hour or less AND we came as a walk-in. Good stuff! I wanted to give this place 5 stars and its so close but we were not happy at how dirty the car was when we received it. After spending so much on detailing the window had sticky residue and streaks from the papers that go on the window (on the inside which is more frustrating) and the car was dirty on the outside. Usually other VPC have a car wash they run it through before giving it to you so I guess this one didnt have that capability. We did receive a car wash voucher though. Overall one of our better VPC experiences. read more

I would put 0 stars if I could. THE worst part of moving is dealing with the VPC. I don't believe I have ever been to such a horrible place. They do not treat anyone with respect, and the idea that they are a service to military members is ridiculous. I've never heard of anyone being so rude to customers. Here are my painful lessons learned. If you are PCSing and must use the VPC, make sure you arrive very early. One minute late will force you to reschedule. Washing your car the day before doesn't cut it, we had to reschedule and wash our car before drop off. If you have an electric car, make sure it's 90% or higher; if it isn't then they will force you to reschedule. I am not exaggerating on any of this. How the employees treat you is the worst, especially considering you've just moved and you have a million other things to do with your military move. They're supposed to be helpful to military! If I could do it all over again I would just pay to ship my car, and never interact with this miserable company again. read more

Shit service, they can have all employees there and still move terribly slow. They don't care about your schedule only theirs. They move slow as if on purpose to do less work before they get to leave. Shipping your car for military has never been a bigger waste of time. They'll tell you to show up at the wrong time and then mark you as late just to make you a walk-in so they can get to you on their own time. Or they can't just tell you to show up another day and waste 3 hours of your time. They'll say "oh we're sorry", but they don't care in the least. This place is terrible. I had made this appointment 2-3 weeks prior to the date, which made me even more upset. This forced me to cancel my flight and then go in and wait as a walk-in. If I could put 0 stars I would. I would like to start off by saying I had an appointment as well as every document pre-printed and signed by my husband and I. What should have taken one (1) hour TOPS took almost 3 hours because of the sheer incompetence of the workers. The person who helped me who's name I didn't get (male, asian, young, confused) was having a hard time grasping the fact that though married my husband is on military duties at another station. This same man I heard complaining to his coworkers from the waiting area that he "had the hardest appointment of the day" as if I didn't do 90% of the work for him beforehand. He then had me wait over an hour while he and his manager made phone calls in order to make sure I was allowed to ship my car when not only do I have power of attorney but also am on my husbands new orders as we are PCS'ing. They then send me outside to pre-inspection which was a breeze. They tell me to park in a numbered stall, I do, and have me wait. I watched 2 other cars come in after me and be helped before me. While the same man from inside comes back out to have me RE-sign paperwork because he "made a mistake". It has now been 30 minutes I'm sitting in my car waiting. I'm that time frame i watch the Asian guy and his what I can only assume is his manager walk around shooting the shit and watch the man who is suppose to be inspecting my car take a selfie for another female worker. When they FINALLY come to my car because I'm just sitting here they say, "oh... we thought we checked you in already. The shipment left but they're bringing it back now." EXCUSE ME? It left? But you didn't notice my car wasn't in it and I was what? Sitting here for my health? I have never had an experience like this anywhere in my life. I understand a hiccup here and there but by the end it felt like my experience was almost targeted. For what reason I don't know. Seemed like too many mistakes for it to be a coincidence unless everyone who works here is incredibly incompetent and shit at their jobs. So at the VPC I had a great experience. Let me start with that. However, the whole process of shipping my car was easy, but LONG. I shipped my car from Virginia on February 16th. My wife shipped her mom's car thru the company Matson from Texas on March 6th. My truck was finally passing thru Texas while I was home and both made it to California about 5 days apart. My truck made it to Hawaii two days before my wife's car and we actually got my wife's car first. I understand the government does nothing fast, but that just seemed ridiculous to me. I don't think anyone likes the idea of going to a place like the VPC, but I had a pretty good experience. Had an appointment at 945, showed up earlier and I was out no later than 1030. He only slow down was the inspectors have set breaks and unfortunately 930 to 10 is one of them . Just make sure you have all your paperwork, your car is clean, and you have a quarter of a tank of gas or less and you're good to go. I removed a star because, while the guard at the entrance was good to me, he had a really bad attitude with the folks in front of me that were trying to pick up their car. read more

I'm not sure what all the negative reviews are about, but my time here was all right. Made two trips here. First time I was missing the worksheet. Oops. The gentleman helping me was very understanding and made sure I had everything else. Second time I had a tick more than a quarter of a tank. So they had me drive around a bit and slide right back to where I was when I left. Everyone was courteous, borderline friendly. Have what you're supposed to have and be nice, and this will be an easy process. Also, I did not have an appointment both times, and the second time I was done within an hour. P.s. McKinley car wash cleaned the car. $16 wash and vacuum passed inspection and only took 30ish minutes. read more

No issues. I had an appointment, I arrived on-time and was seen right away, I had all necessary paperwork, my car was spotless (inside and out), under 1/4 tank of gas, and it passed inspections. In and out in about 45 minutes. If you follow all of their directions and have an appointment, super easy! I saw one car fail inspection, the entire exterior was visibly dirty. Worst military VPC in the country (I'd be willing to bet the World). This place is so bad that it is a factor in weather I ever apply for orders and PCS back to Hawaii with a vehicle or not. Their instructions are unclear and after you navigate multiple websites (that nobody directs you to) and instructions pages they are different on each one. They are inflexible in hours and when they send you for documentation in excess of their published requirements you end up in the back of the line because customer service is non existent. If you PCS to/from hawaii your will be better off selling before you depart and buying when you arrive on island. Its not often I wish yelp could give 0 stars but this is one of those cases. IAL should re-evaluate their employees and process and make big changes. Avoid if you can, if you are military and have no choice, I'm sorry! read more
