I think this is going to be my main bar I go to when in Waikiki, April is awesome; and she makes a damn good Manhattan. Since she couldn't make my general old fashioned, heh I guess you can call me that to a extent. I know somewhat corny, but anyways I like the bartenders/bar maids etc. with the lingo. Most of them are nice, and follow the cdc rules no matter if they like it or not in order to keep people safe. The music rocks, and the ambiance is great besides a few customers that you gotta deal with. This is definitely a place I recommend, although if you're a lady be on guard like I generally am as some can be a bit or has the vibe of being rowdy or whatnot; and in general would be good to come with someone no matter what gender. Now I'm not saying it's not safe as I know the employees will deal with it, and I feel safe; but still in bars you gotta be cautious. This hole in the wall tavern is a little off the beaten patch and seemed to be a locals spot as the bartender knew several of the other patrons. No beer on tap but they did sell beer in cans for a reasonable price. Only downside was the people smoking right outside and the smoke would come in through the open windows. read more

They literally SNATCH your beer during last call and don't let you finish with NO warning at all. Pretty fucked up, never in my life has that occurred to me and I've worked at a brewery before...we would NEVER do that to our customers. I understand they're closing but at least let customers know they have 5 minutes (shit even 3 SECONDS) to finish our beer we paid for??? Extremely rude and out of pocket. First off, Scott K. hit it on the nose. Pinned the tail on the donkey, bullseye! Hehe, you get the picture. Here we have the epitome of dive bars. Lots of crazy but super friendly people, great food, and enough women hanging out to make it easy on the eyes. There are two sections to the bar. The original section is a small counter-style bar with a larger back section which features karaoke, pool tables, and darts. The drink prices are very reasonable, especially for Waikiki. Food is also very reasonably priced and pretty good. The owner of the bar owned a chain of Hoagie places in San Francisco that he sold before moving to Hawaii. The hoagie I tried was extremely tasty! Come here if you're looking for a good time to relax and have a drink or 10. They will welcome you with open arms. Well they did for me at least. read more

We LOVED this bar! A little off the beaten path, but the best deals we found our whole trip and the nicest people. We had $2 rolling rocks and 50 cent wings the first time we went. One guy talked us into coming in a couple days later, swearing by their $1 Taco Tuesday. They didn't disappoint! Along with $4 Coronas we had a delicious lunch for under 10 bucks. I sought this place out based on the dive bar distinction in a busy, tourist-heavy Waikiki. It's located in a mid-century hotel, so the tiki bar vibe fits in flawlessly with the building. The inside of the bar is pretty tiny, but they have a back area that opens up so you have room to spread out. It took some time to get the bartender's attention, but once we did we were greeted warmly. Since the inside is so small, we had to sit in the back. I would've preferred grabbing a seat at the bar, so we could watch TV, but the wicker furniture in the back was pretty comfy. It's a bit old and dirty, but that's the appeal. The Tavern is a second home to me. Everyone is so friendly and quirky and so full of love. The drinks are great, the food is pretty good (make sure you stop by Tuesday nights from 7pm-10pm for $1 tacos), and the staff will crack you up. Seriously, if you're over the nightclub scene, this will be your new favorite bar. Tiny, trashy, and without the slightest hint of pretentiousness. The chairs don't match, the glasses don't match, there's only one bathroom that is often occupied, and you probably wouldn't want to see this bar with the lights on. All that said, It's the perfect hole in the wall for having fun, singing your guts out, and still being able to carry on good conversation with your company. The best part of the Tavern is that it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. Cheap beer, friendly bartenders, and free karaoke (but do tip your KJ!) where you typically get to sing two songs back to back before moving onto the next person. If there was one complaint, it's that the sound system is pretty old and sometimes hard to hear--the owner repeatedly turns down the volume citing neighbors who threaten to call the police. This often makes it difficult to "get lost in your favorite song," but it's just part of the deal. And many of the songs in the selection book aren't actually available (those discs disappeared along with an old KJ). But there's still a broad enough selection that you should find SOMETHING to sing. Moreover, when you're hungry, owner Byron will make you a fantastic fresh hoagie--the best thing to wash down with your pint of cheap beer. I usually have a great time whenever I head here. Weekends are obviously the busiest, but the place is open for drinks and singing every night. If you're really wanting to sing lots, go on a weeknight when not many others are singing. Otherwise, sidle up to the bar to grab a beer, then head back to Byron's Playroom to listen to singers of all different skill levels while you wait for your name to be called. Everyone seems to be friendly here, and you can really just let down and be yourself. All in all, I've paid way more money and had far less of a good time at other places. This place is a Waikiki local's dive bar. Tourists sometimes stumble into this dive bar tucked inside Hawaiian King Condos. The main bar leads into a secondary area with pool table. The bar can be a bit noisy when busy. The drinks are unbelievably low priced. I ordered two Mai Tais and afterwards asked the bartender for a recommended drink. The Mai Tai had a smoky flavor and was slightly sweet. He put together a secret concoction which consisted of rum, coconut, and pineapple. The secret drink uncovered sweet layers of coconut, rum, and pineapple bursting with each sip ! In total I had four drinks that totaled $13.50, (one beer, and three cocktails). It was unbelievable pricing for the Waikiki beach area. I highly recommend this place. read more
