First off, I want to recognize Josh as a friendly and gracious bartender. He's a West Virginia transplant who had not forgotten his Southern manners. Otherwise there wasn't much to this quiet, spacious second floor gay bar on Seaside Avenue. Jamie W. and I decided to drop by around 6:30PM, and it was empty except for Josh. We also had read they served hot food. However, the owner had decided not to serve any the evening we were there. Too bad as we were feeling peckish and heard the grub was good. There was a pool table and several lounging areas, so they were ready for play. We just stuck around to nurse our $5 Happy Hour drinks, Bourbon & Ginger and Pina Colada (photo: https://yelp.to/H7KMslwSq5). Oh well, we'll give them another try on our next trip. DRINKS - 3.5 stars...Josh made our drinks just fine AMBIANCE - 3 stars...enough space, decor needed more flair SERVICE - 4 stars...Josh did his job fine TOTAL - 3 stars...but the bar lacked energy...and food...and people RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Me and my friends came here several nights on our recent trip to Hawaii, Met Josh our first night and he was so nice, Jhonny was so fun and made our experience so memorable! Definitely recommend and will be back for sure

Stopped off here for a night cap. Didn't know about this place till walking by one evening and noticed a rainbow flag. It's not a big place but does pack a good punch. Upstairs, there's a long outdoor seating area before heading to the bar which is inside. A couple of hi top tables inside. Music was great which is always a plus. Both the bartender were amazing. Very sweet and friendly which is a major plus.

Solid play list here and good drinks for the vibes. I'll definitely be back again when I next island hop. Definitely has the local vibes and would like to meet people in the future.

Cute place but the bartender price gouged us. Called ahead of time and asked if there were any specials and he stated 5.00 well drinks til 8pm and we arrived at 6pm and he charged us 7.50 per drink!

Lol. At first, I thought this was an actual tapas bar, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was a regular drinking bar. Not that there's anything wrong with tapas bars. I think we visited either on a very slow night or made our trip too early in the evening. I think we arrived at the bar around 8 pm. During our visit, there were only 4-6 other patrons at the bar. Although the bar was quiet, we had a nice chat with the owner and the bartender, who were very friendly. The drink prices were fine for this New Yorker, and I have no complaints. This may not be a big deal for many folks, but I was EXTREMELY pleased that the AC was on full blast. If you want to visit an LGBTQ place that is not super touristy, then Tapas bar is your place. Or, it is a place just to recharge your batteries before heading back out to visit the touristy bars and restaurants.

Accidentally stumbled upon this bar and I'm so glad I did! I forget the bartender's name but I know their drag name is "the wicked which of Waikiki." They couldn't have been more welcoming or more funny. Definitely made my first night in Oahu a good one. In addition to the awesome bartender, the food and drinks were good too. The potstickers definitely hit the spot and the drinks were not at all weak. What stood out to me about this bar was the fact that it was in the heart of the touristy part of town but it actually felt like a neighborhood bar. I can't wait to go back here one day.

This listing is completely out of date. It's just a bar now. There is no menu to speak of. Please update.

The beautiful and large, open-air bar/restaurant is located on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand Hotel and has a nice, relaxed feel. There are tables by the open side of the lounge where you can watch the action in Waikiki below. Hula's is much more commercial than the other gay bars I visited in Honolulu, as the servers wore name tags and they had an extensive food menu. The decor was a little kitschy, too, but I loved it! I only came for a drink, though, which was a Blue Hawaiian (of course!), and it was delicious. The place wasn't too crowded while I was there, though it started to pick up a bit right when I was about to leave. There was a live singer performing local music, which was thoroughly enjoyable and the servers were friendly and attentive, too. I'll bet this is a really great place to hang out when it's got a drag show or a deejay going on. I'll definitely have to check this place out more the next time I'm in Honolulu. Five stars for atmosphere and potential!

The bartending staff is absolutely incredible--everyone is warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. They keep the drinks flowing and the karaoke rotation moving smoothly, which makes the whole night feel effortless and fun. Karaoke is free during their "power hour" from 7-8pm, and after that, songs are only $1 each, which is more than fair. There's a solid song selection, though the web-based search can be a little tricky since there's no smart search. Pro tip: stick to 2-3 keywords like they recommend and you'll find what you need. The crowd is one of the best parts--a great mix of locals and tourists. While it's a gay bar, the vibe is very inclusive and welcoming, and everyone feels comfortable and invited to join in.
