Bacchus Waikiki is the one of a few gay bars in Honolulu that I visited, and I it's the one I visited most often during my stay in Waikiki. Fun bar, with great service, awesome music, cool vibes, and friendly people! Busier on the days of and around the weekend.

Fun spot always great to be there for trivia or drag shows. Nice staff who are very attentive with no attitude. Clientele is also friendly locals mixed with vacation travelers!

Jamie W. and I were honestly not on a Great Gay Bar search in Honolulu, but we happened upon this one as we were deciding where to have dinner in Waikiki. We had already visited Hula's Bar & Lei Stand on Kapahulu, and like Hula's, Bacchus was somewhat discreetly on a second floor, in this case, of a building that looked like a deco-style South Beach motel shared with Siam Square Thai Restaurant. Vibe-wise, if Hula's was like "La Cage aux Folles", Bacchus was more like "The Boys in the Band". The main bar room was compact and would've felt a bit claustrophobic if it didn't feel so friendly and inclusive. There was not a seat to be had inside as most eyes were glued on "The Real Housewives" on the big screen. There was a narrow balcony outside, and a departing sweetheart of a patron offered the two open seats. We grabbed them, and I ordered a pair of refreshing $8 Classic Mai Tais made with light and dark rum, orgeat, curaçao, and lime juice (photo: https://bit.ly/41LCpap). As our serving space, we used the empty flower basket hanging over the railing as we watched a parade of beef pass behind us. Jamie got our second round, a pair of $8 Lilikoi Margaritas salted on the rim and with an extra kick of tequila (photo: https://bit.ly/3SSL4Uu). Already tipsy, we skipped the bar bites and moved on to our dinner destination. COCKTAILS - 4 stars...just what we needed to wet our whistles for wolf calls and otherwise AMBIANCE - 4 stars...packed but friendly, clean restrooms SERVICE - 4 stars...happy, obliging bartender TOTAL - 4 stars...is there a Honolulu city ordinance that gays have to imbibe on the second floor? This place was happening the night we stopped by. Actually second time here but first time didn't get in. It was during covid when they were only limiting amount of people in at a time. Didn't want to wait for a drink then. But on this visit, it was a busy night but a good crowd. Bar area does get just so I recommend getting a drink right when you get in. There did have someone checking id when you come up the stairs. There's a little outdoor area along the walkway to the restroom. Good crowd and great music.

I had a one day layover in Honolulu on my way to Los Angeles. A dear friend lives there and decided to spend the day in Waikiki took a look at some of the gay bars and it was mid afternoon and I knew everything would be quiet, but I decided on a visit to Baccus. Easy to find off of one of the main avenues, but you do have to walk up some stairs. It's a small bar but very comfy. There were only a handful of people having drinks. I like it quiet so it was great. The bartender was very friendly. The drinks were very good and I like the music they played. The bartender told me gets really busy on Friday and Saturday night which I'm sure it does. It was a nice way to spend the late afternoon having a few drinks in Honolulu. The good: friendly bar, strong drinks, friendly staff. And it's an intimate place. The bad: actually nothing I can think of for a gay bar. It's pretty laid-back. Chances I'll be back: oh for sure whenever I'm back in Waikiki, I'll stop by hopefully maybe on Friday or Saturday night to see it going on all its cylinders. I like small bars as opposed to noisy big ones.

Located on Lewers Street Half a block before the Alawai, you'll see signage and outdoor stairs. Heading up to the upstairs bar. I went on a Friday night for the RuPaul's drag race watch party on four tv screens scattered throughout. Great crowd, great energy. One bartender until seven he was awesome. The drinks were tasty, and the price is so reasonable. They do serve personal sized pizzas when there are more than one bartender what I saw from the table next to me. It looked delicious!. Definitely will come back.

Best margaritas in town by far.

The ambiance and service is great. Good hang out for visitors to experience. The small vibe is great for people to come and enjoy reasonable drinks.

Our group inside of Bacchus. The bar lines the one side of the venue. You can just make out the front entrance behind us

Bacchus was awesome. A smaller bar venue but still held quite a few people. Located on the second floor you walk in to a small open floor with some scattered tables and booths. There is a raised table on a platform and a DJ in the corner. The bar top takes up just about the entire one side. There's an open balcony with seating and you have to go out there to use the restrooms. The restrooms were just a couple stalls and were fairly clean. The staff was excellent. The bartender that served us was so nice and she was recommending fun stuff to try. The outside balcony was also vaping friendly. We thought this included all smoking, but you can only smoke cigarettes on the ground floor in front of the bar. Being our first time we didn't realize this, but the bouncer was super chill. He kindly let us know cigs aren't allowed on the balcony and to come back up when we were finished. He also recommended another LGBTQIA+ bar to go to after because Bacchus closes at 12am. We wanted to stay out a bit later and he steered us in the right direction. The drinks were good! A decent pour and well balanced mixed drinks. The shots were huge. Our group loves to go out and these were some of the biggest shots we've seen! The music was club music with someone taking requests and keeping it upbeat. Good stuff you want to dance to the whole time. Overall loved it here and would go back in a heartbeat.

The beautiful and large, open-air bar/restaurant is located on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand Hotel and has a nice, relaxed feel. There are tables by the open side of the lounge where you can watch the action in Waikiki below. Hula's is much more commercial than the other gay bars I visited in Honolulu, as the servers wore name tags and they had an extensive food menu. The decor was a little kitschy, too, but I loved it! I only came for a drink, though, which was a Blue Hawaiian (of course!), and it was delicious. The place wasn't too crowded while I was there, though it started to pick up a bit right when I was about to leave. There was a live singer performing local music, which was thoroughly enjoyable and the servers were friendly and attentive, too. I'll bet this is a really great place to hang out when it's got a drag show or a deejay going on. I'll definitely have to check this place out more the next time I'm in Honolulu. Five stars for atmosphere and potential!
