Was refused service by a bartender for no reason at all. Her name was Nikki. I have not caused any problems or anything at all at this bar.. I thought bartenders were here to sell alcohol, but I guess this Bartender doesn't know how to do her job. Her name is Nikki.. and she told the other Bartender to not serve me alcohol as well. I am a pain customer and a very chill person! I demand to talk to the owner. And I believe this woman, Nikki should not work as a bartender with this horrible service that I've got. read more

Bacchus Waikiki is fine for what it is. Nothing bad stood out, but nothing really stood out either. Drinks were average, service was fine, and the atmosphere felt like a typical Waikiki bar. It works if you are already nearby and want a quick drink, but it is not somewhere I would go out of my way for. Solid, but forgettable. read more

Jamie W. and I were honestly not on a Great Gay Bar search in Honolulu, but we happened upon this one as we were deciding where to have dinner in Waikiki. We had already visited Hula's Bar & Lei Stand on Kapahulu, and like Hula's, Bacchus was somewhat discreetly on a second floor, in this case, of a building that looked like a deco-style South Beach motel shared with Siam Square Thai Restaurant. Vibe-wise, if Hula's was like "La Cage aux Folles", Bacchus was more like "The Boys in the Band". The main bar room was compact and would've felt a bit claustrophobic if it didn't feel so friendly and inclusive. There was not a seat to be had inside as most eyes were glued on "The Real Housewives" on the big screen. There was a narrow balcony outside, and a departing sweetheart of a patron offered the two open seats. We grabbed them, and I ordered a pair of refreshing $8 Classic Mai Tais made with light and dark rum, orgeat, curaçao, and lime juice (photo: https://bit.ly/41LCpap). As our serving space, we used the empty flower basket hanging over the railing as we watched a parade of beef pass behind us. This place was happening the night we stopped by. Actually second time here but first time didn't get in. It was during covid when they were only limiting amount of people in at a time. Didn't want to wait for a drink then. But on this visit, it was a busy night but a good crowd. Bar area does get just so I recommend getting a drink right when you get in. There did have someone checking id when you come up the stairs. There's a little outdoor area along the walkway to the restroom. Good crowd and great music. read more

Bacchus has been such a great place to enjoy the company of friends and cheap drinks over the years. It's also one of the few gay bars in Waikiki, so the scene is often saturated with tourists from all over the world. It's honestly a fantastic way to meet folks from across the globe. Located on Lewers Street Half a block before the Alawai, you'll see signage and outdoor stairs. Heading up to the upstairs bar. I went on a Friday night for the RuPaul's drag race watch party on four tv screens scattered throughout. Great crowd, great energy. One bartender until seven he was awesome. The drinks were tasty, and the price is so reasonable. They do serve personal sized pizzas when there are more than one bartender what I saw from the table next to me. It looked delicious!. I had a one day layover in Honolulu on my way to Los Angeles. A dear friend lives there and decided to spend the day in Waikiki took a look at some of the gay bars and it was mid afternoon and I knew everything would be quiet, but I decided on a visit to Baccus. Easy to find off of one of the main avenues, but you do have to walk up some stairs. It's a small bar but very comfy. There were only a handful of people having drinks. I like it quiet so it was great. The bartender was very friendly. The drinks were very good and I like the music they played. The bartender told me gets really busy on Friday and Saturday night which I'm sure it does. It was a nice way to spend the late afternoon having a few drinks in Honolulu. The good: friendly bar, strong drinks, friendly staff. And it's an intimate place. The bad: actually nothing I can think of for a gay bar. It's pretty laid-back. Chances I'll be back: oh for sure whenever I'm back in Waikiki, I'll stop by hopefully maybe on Friday or Saturday night to see it going on all its cylinders. Bacchus was awesome. A smaller bar venue but still held quite a few people. Located on the second floor you walk in to a small open floor with some scattered tables and booths. There is a raised table on a platform and a DJ in the corner. The bar top takes up just about the entire one side. There's an open balcony with seating and you have to go out there to use the restrooms. The restrooms were just a couple stalls and were fairly clean. The staff was excellent. The bartender that served us was so nice and she was recommending fun stuff to try. The outside balcony was also vaping friendly. We thought this included all smoking, but you can only smoke cigarettes on the ground floor in front of the bar. Being our first time we didn't realize this, but the bouncer was super chill. He kindly let us know cigs aren't allowed on the balcony and to come back up when we were finished. He also recommended another LGBTQIA+ bar to go to after because Bacchus closes at 12am. We wanted to stay out a bit later and he steered us in the right direction. The drinks were good! A decent pour and well balanced mixed drinks. The shots were huge. Our group loves to go out and these were some of the biggest shots we've seen! The music was club music with someone taking requests and keeping it upbeat. Good stuff you want to dance to the whole time. Overall loved it here and would go back in a heartbeat. read more

This is a small and unassuming bar on the second story, once you step inside you're definitely going to have a good time. People here were so friendly and made my last night in Waikiki fun. The bartender was playing great music videos and even though it wasn't karaoke night we were all singing at the top of our lungs to many of the songs. Decent tiny, cute place. First, this place is listed as one of the top 50 gay bars in the U.S. I believe Bacchus was ranked #13 or #14, but I'm not really sure why. Maybe each state can submit only one bar for consideration. The bar is quite small so you will have an opportunity to interact with the clientele, which seemed pretty friendly and (surprisingly) diverse. The bar gave me a neighborhood, local, divey feel, which is great for taking a break from all of the tourist attractions in the surrounding area. Beer and cocktails are pretty cheap for a spot in Waikiki. The bartender on staff was pretty efficient because there was not too much of wait even though the bar was a bit crowded. read more

My favorite bartender is Ryan, who is the best mix of good vibes and an amazing mixologist! Also, Ryan makes everyone feel safe! Really enjoyed my experience here... I went in February and at that time, most businesses were still just opening up, so it was very busy. I most definitely recommend making a reservation if possible. This was the first spot, the roomie and I went to but there was a long wait. This prompted us to go to two other gay bars, so by the time it was time for us to go back here, we were slightly obnoxious and slightly drunk. But the staff was still nice to and patient with us and I'm so grateful to them for that. Drinks were delicious and well made. Pizza wasn't the greatest but I was so full by the time I arrived here but the law required that one must order food with their liquor. At that point nothing is going to taste good. I like that everything in Waikiki is walkable, so you can most def hit up all the gay bars in one night and get your steps in! Been a regular here for many years. It's a nice neighborhood LGBTQIA+ bar that all are welcome. It is lowkey, comfortable, clean and the staff are all fantastic. No matter what your drink is, they pretty much got it or can make it for the most part unless you got something ultra fancy or unique. Decent section of beer and wine. They also have really good small pizzas that are big enough to share between 2 to 3 depending how hungry you are. Afternoons are my favorite time there, but they have a hustling night scene with different activities almost nightly. It isn't large, but they have a nice bar area, table tops, edge seating and an outside lanai area. Most of the regulars all have their favorite corners, but there is plenty of room for all. read more

Haven't been to Bacchus in a very long time. Probably one of the last times was on a 2 for 1 Wednesday's! City ordinance allows bars to operate as long as there's a kitchen that can prepare food for customers as well as for take out. You're allowed to have drinks as long as you order an item off the food menu, we choose Cheesy Nachos with Kalua Pig and Jalapenos, salsa, olives and sour cream. Me and my friends just had a few rounds of Kirin been to end off the night out. Covid protocols were in place, and at the most probably a handful of people were there with a few out on the lanai. 2 bartenders were working, music videos in place of a live deejay. Each table has a QR code to Bacchus's website, if you're a Rupaul's Drag Race fan, they have viewing nights on Friday's. read more

On vacation visiting for the weekend. Some young bartender with a bad attitude named Ryan with very poor customer service skills was the reason I didn't stay long. I watched him rudely DROP fruit into peoples glasses when they ask for fruit that he didn't place on their drinks to begin with as if " you should have said it the first time " kinda attitude. He gives me the vibe of someone who spits in your drinks when you aren't looking. Dude was a bad vibe. I immediately left. Such a fun time and felt safe the whole night. Bartenders were quick and friendly despite the rush and the music made for some fun dancing. Drinks were strong in the best way.
