My Rotary club held our quarterly pau hana here. I pass by this establishment all the time, but never went here. There's ample parking if you come early. Our gathering was from 5-7pm and I was able to get a parking in the lot. We had the grilled cheese sandwiches, fries, pork chops, and loaded nachos. Everything was tasty. There's a pool table, darts, and karaoke. So much to do and great for a big group. I believe there was 30 in our group, plus the other patrons and everyone fit comfortably. I was intrigued by this low-key gay bar when I read about it in an online gay guide. The location on McCully near S. King was a bit away from Waikiki where most of the gay bars were. Could this be a true neighborhood tavern that happens to serve a gay clientele? Probably but because Jamie W. and I arrived a bit before 7PM, there was no clientele to speak of at that hour. Just the efficient server Leilani who plied us with free popcorn. And presumably the bar owner who was at his laptop at the bar. He sang Pink Floyd selections at random to showcase his karaoke system. This is supposedly a gay bar, but feels more like a dive with a slightly higher number of gays for a weekday. Their karaoke is cool. It has a cool feature where you find songs on your phone and let the bartender know. Way easier than the big book. Way too few Morrissey or Smiths songs. I just want to say thank you so much to the lady working there on Saturday night, I'm sorry I don't know your name, but you took great care of us! Mahalo! One room bar and karaoke. Smaller than I thought inside, but there's a lot of tables and seats to go around. Parking in the back, I think shares with the restaurant next door but we were there after the restaurant closed so that was fine. The bathrooms are clean. Apparently the kitchen was out of order so only drinks were served, which was unfortunate. But someone in our group brought snacks and maybe ubered some food so that's great they let us do that. $1 per 3 songs for karaoke, which is not bad. Our group was having so much fun singing and other people that were not part of our group clapping and singing along was an experience. We needed round 10000 and this was nearby. We found parking in the lot and went in via the McCully Street entrance and was greeted by Lani. She let us know we can sit wherever and eventually found a spot for us to get situated. She came by soon and let us know food wasn't available but we can have food delivered or go buy our own and it's free karaoke (it was a Sunday.) That got me but that was about it. We were the only party there at 7ish? but several people followed suit. The reason why I gave it one star? MOLD. Mold in the bathroom faucet, black mold nonetheless, mold on the walls and just wasn't upkept. I'm not saying to judge an establishment by the aesthetics of the restrooms but this was a no bueno situation. Service can be excellent but I am not risking my health. read more

A great bar with drinks, pupus, karaoke, darts or billiards. I usually go to Chili's on Sunday as it is free karaoke every Sunday. On other days, it's $1/song Use their webpage http://songs.chikostavern.com to find songs by artist or song title. They may have a binder but it's simple to look for songs online, put in your number and sing. The sheet of paper allows you to write 3 songs and on Sunday night (after 8 pm), the wait may not be that long as I've only seen about 10 people in there. For drinks, they have beer, mixed drinks and I could get vodka Red Bull, rum and coke, STP, etc. For food, I order usually 2-4 dishes. The go to is the pork chops (deep fried) which is $12. The pork chops at taste great with the deep fried crisp and fresh pork chops and you dip it in ketchup for an amazing taste. Another thing I've ordered in the past is the sizzling steak with mushrooms and onions. The sizzling steak is $17 add the add on of mushrooms, onions is $1.50 each. I've ordered the mochiko chicken and fried noodles and pizza before too which are all good. The ambience is great, chill, fun (whether talking to bartender, watching TV with subtitles, playing darts, playing billiards, singing, or talking with friends or strangers). Somewhat of a throwback, Chiko's Tavern is an out of the way hole in the wall that locals have been going to for over 40 years. It's a small bar that serves pupus (appetizers) and a place to come and sing karaoke. The Spam musubi is grilled to caramelize the outside then topped with shoyu (soy sauce). The Spam tops a bed of rice and then wrapped in nori. This is a classic Hawaiian dish and one that is prepated well. The kalbi ribs are marinated in shoyu, sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil and then grilled. The kalbi ribs are cut thin and the marinade and char of the grill bring out a wonderful combination of sweet, salty and a little bit of spice from the ginger and some added chili. The food is not gourmet by any means, but for the people of Hawaii, it's comfort food at its finest. read more

Lani the owner is the best! the old chiko's had one of those dive bar kind of feels... and of course its own charm, but since they renovated (they had suffered from a fire a while back) things are very spiffy now! the space looks so much bigger, and "fancier" now. usually there are plenty places to sit, but this place does have its really busy and crowded days, so be aware... if you come on a crowded day, you will probably never find a place to rest your buns.... food is pretty good too - edamame, spam musubi, chicken.... you can't really go wrong with any item on the menu! occasionally there is cover b/c there is a band playing, and its usually hawaiian music, but other than those occasions, there is no cover to get in. and if you go regularly, they have some really good singers! if you pick up the mic, i hope you have the pipes to back it up! you'll find some heavy competition in the bar karaoke realm over here! there are 4 dart boards to play on, and 1 7-foot pool table. the walls around the table are pretty tight, so careful with your stroke on this table..... the parking is kind of junk sometimes, especially around dinner time b/c it shares a lot with their neighbor yakiniku camelia.... but if you go before or after this time, parking is usually pretty easy. read more

We just need to transform this venue and renovate some of the furniture and gove it some life. A cool local hang-out to get good food and drinks for extremely reasonable pricing. Considering this is a casual bar, it was a great surprise to have such great food! We had the Tater Tot Nachos and Spinach Artichoke Dip - both were expected bar food items with a twist. They both tasted great and were hearty. 2nd time on the island. ALOHA! We had the pleasure of our local friends to bring us to this fun joint. A bar is a bar right? Not at Chiko's. Now now.. it is LGBT Friendly.. you know why ? Because they're cool like that. Just as long as you want to come and have a good time? Come to Chiko's. It's not swarming with QUEERS, but it was swarmed with lots of SMILING FOLKS! This is my favorite place to hang out for a drink. Nice atmosphere to relax, have a drink, and maybe sing a couple songs. The food is amazing, flavorful, and well priced. On certain days you might also catch cast members from the community theatres singing to their hearts delight. After a terrible experience at Hibiscus my daughter texted & said a bunch of her friends we here so come by. I mean we already experienced the bar from HELL, how much worst could it be? From the time we got in I felt a cozy atmosphere feeling My daughter & her friends were pretty much the only ones there at the time but it was perfect as it got busier later in the evening. I wished I got the waitresses name that served us because she was on point! From greeting us as soon as we got there. After telling her of our horrible experience at Hibiscus we told her how we just wanted to eat! We ordered the exact items at Hibiscus along with a few more items & BAM! Food comes in lightning speed but with heat as well as flavor!! We were in heaven! With our tummies satisfied we decided to sing some songs. This would be my go-to bar if I starred in the "How I Met Your Mother" show. Drink prices and food options are decent, I found servers were attentive, and seating offers you different options. It strikes me as a reliable bar with regulars. They had a $5 drink special but most drinks we ordered were $5 anyway. $1/song for karaoke and darts/billiards table are also nice touches. Fortunately, the karaoke singers were pretty good that evening and we heard an excellent rendition of "Suddenly Seymour" by a talented duo. Parking is located to the makai side of Chiko's (it shares the parking lot with Camellia Yakiniku) and street parking is also an option. Know that this is a gay friendly joint so if you cannot hang it is not a place for you. I have so many memories here. The kind of memories movies are made out of. I don't know where to start. My bachelorette party, many birthdays, my college "exploration" days (lol), making new friends (Cary Y. and Cara H.), love triangles, falling in love with my hubby... the list can go on and on! Visit and make your own memories too!!! I LOVE the staff here especially Quinn and Lani!! They are fast with the strong drinks and yummy food. They also are very accommodating and super nice. For example, one day my phone was dying and they let me charge it using their charge dock. Now, that's extra good service! My fave food options here are Mo-Chiko chicken, spam musubi, and grilled cheese. But everything I tried has been yummmmy! Expect local bar comfort food. The drinks are decently priced and made perfectly. They have a great happy hour-- I need to visit more. This is a good place for karaoke but sometimes I'm shame because the singers can be super good! Chiko's Tavern is that neighborhood spot that locals can go to regularly for a stable selection of food and libations. It offers a good selection of menu items and well poured drinks at reasonable prices. It has certainly come a long way from its re-opening to the present and I must say it is a decent place to grab a drink and sing some karaoke if the mood strikes you. The location is convenient and parking is available in the back. Note parking can fill up since it does share with Camelia, so good luck with finding street parking. It may take a few turns, but you'll eventually find some. The ambiance is casual and comfortable with seating at the bar or casual booth seating if you happen to be going with a group. It offers a sports bar type of feel with it being a karaoke bar. The food menu is your local style bar food with noodles, meat dishes, and such which are meant to be shared. The flavors are certainly decent, however I can't say that I was truly wow'ed by any of the dishes on the menu. It certainly didn't disappoint, just slightly missed the mark on wow. The drinks are well poured and their alcohol selection is certainly wide-pleasing. You would be hard to find a drink that couldn't be made with their selection. Service is generally good with the staff working the room. They are very personable and helpful, however I have noticed that they are a bit harder to find on busier nights. Chikos has been newly renovated and is looking great now! The new look gives it a more classy look which makes it look all the more appealing. The staff work extremely hard to satisfy every customer's needs and are also very personable. The pupus there are excellent. They have a large variety of everyones' favorite midnight munchies and a well made drink list. It is a very casual bar and is a terrific place to kick back and have a few beers while playing pool or darts with a couple of friends. Every night is karaoke night for just a dollar per song, except Thursdays when they have live Hawaiian music (all the more better). Very awesome place to relax and sit back with a few good drinks in a surprisingly cozy and intimate atmosphere. You would hardly suspect such an ambiance from the outside, but once you go in you realize that Chiko's is a super friendly and great local bar. And with a private lot! Another star for that convenient feature. The drinks and food are affordable, it's got nice lighting (makes everyone look even more attractive) and a great array of karaoke songs. What makes Chiko's a perfect late night spot is that everyone is truly welcome and awesome. Service is on point and professional and the owner is extremely friendly and makes it a priority to provide excellent customer service. As someone with an active bladder I personally appreciate the bathrooms with two stalls (so often in bars you only get one that you have to crowd around and wait for!) and they're always pretty clean. I've only had a few of their pupus but from what I've tasted the food is also delicious. As it's a karaoke joint, it's a dollar per song. But make sure you get your songs in asap, as the pro singers tend to dominate the mic for the majority of the night. And one caveat to singing here--you better have some silky smooth vocal chords because the people that sing are always good. But throw back a couple of their fantastically mixed drinks and you might get up enough courage to not even care. read more

I must say, I love it! The drinks are strong but not too overpowering on the alcohol where it tastes bad. The food is decent though a bit on the over-priced side. Will highly recommend the fries while drinking because they are served hot and fresh to you. Also tried to the Kalua Pig Sliders and those were ONO!! The service is also very friendly and personable. The owners are amazing! I can't say enough about how they are just an energetic and down to each couple. As for the layout, I do love the new way the place looks but there is a few small little aspects to it that could really bring it together. Still trying to place my finger on it. This would definitely require me to read up more on interior designing to actually grasp the concepts that really make or break a restaurant or business. The atmosphere is always fun though, with groups singing different songs. This is the best part of Chiko's since they offer a wide variety of songs to sing for karaoke (by the way, I really wish people would pronounce it correctly rather than saying karioki or something like that. Everyone knows of at least one "hideaway" bar; someplace where you can have a couple of beers in peace without worrying who you'll run into. Or maybe you want to hang out somewhere off the beaten path where crowds aren't part of the equation. Either way, Chiko's Tavern in McCully is a nondescript watering hole that fits the bill pretty well. Parking is an obvious problem on the corner of McCully and Algaroba streets. But once you manage to find some and get inside, you'll find it's worth the wait. Ten tables line the walls in Chiko's main room, surrounded by televisions and a big screen in one corner. The last time I visited, our group seemed to be the only people employees and other customers didn't recognize upon entering. Don't mistake Chiko's Tavern for a sports bar -- Monday Night Football got turned off midway through the second quarter on the big screen so customers could sing karaoke. At least there were a few other TVs we could watch while an older gentleman a few booths over sang Neil Diamond's greatest hits. If the comfortable booths and home-style lighting in Chiko's main room doesn''t help to relax you, check out the back room. Just like a nightclub, there's a second area complete with dance floor and couches for customers to enjoy. Three dart machines line one wall, and red satin-like couches and chairs occupy the rest of the room's perimeter.
