I was intrigued by this low-key gay bar when I read about it in an online gay guide. The location on McCully near S. King was a bit away from Waikiki where most of the gay bars were. Could this be a true neighborhood tavern that happens to serve a gay clientele? Probably but because Jamie W. and I arrived a bit before 7PM, there was no clientele to speak of at that hour. Just the efficient server Leilani who plied us with free popcorn. And presumably the bar owner who was at his laptop at the bar. He sang Pink Floyd selections at random to showcase his karaoke system. It didn't work on us because neither of us could carry a tune, but we did imbibe a couple of the $8.75 Mai Tais which actually helped us to get used to the solitude (photo: https://yelp.to/y2anM4Mogr). When only one customer showed up in the next half-hour, we took that as our cue to leave. DRINKS - 4 stars...a sturdy Mai Tai AMBIANCE - 4 stars...spacious with a poll table and various seating areas SERVICE - 3.5 stars...Leilani was industrious TOTAL - 3.5 stars...we had a 3-star experience, but it wasn't their fault it was empty...I could imagine it being fun later in the evening RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Chiko's is one of my favorite places on island!! I love the vibe and being able to play darts is always amazing. The people working there are incredible!! Not to mention the grilled cheese is absolute gas!!! 10/10 recommend a night at Chiko's!!!

Casual ambience and entertaining atmosphere. Very welcoming and friendly staff that is attentive to everyone. A very open and small local business type of vibe

Plenty of open seating for your group

Wow what a kick ass little place w great food and excellent service! Easy to find w off street free parking. The lot is well lit and felt safe. Close to the entrance and next to a busy restaurant. Atmosphere was lively and friendly like a local pub where everybody knows your name.

A great bar with drinks, pupus, karaoke, darts or billiards. I usually go to Chili's on Sunday as it is free karaoke every Sunday. On other days, it's $1/song Use their webpage http://songs.chikostavern.com to find songs by artist or song title. They may have a binder but it's simple to look for songs online, put in your number and sing. The sheet of paper allows you to write 3 songs and on Sunday night (after 8 pm), the wait may not be that long as I've only seen about 10 people in there. For drinks, they have beer, mixed drinks and I could get vodka Red Bull, rum and coke, STP, etc. For food, I order usually 2-4 dishes. The go to is the pork chops (deep fried) which is $12. The pork chops at taste great with the deep fried crisp and fresh pork chops and you dip it in ketchup for an amazing taste. Another thing I've ordered in the past is the sizzling steak with mushrooms and onions. The sizzling steak is $17 add the add on of mushrooms, onions is $1.50 each. I've ordered the mochiko chicken and fried noodles and pizza before too which are all good. The ambience is great, chill, fun (whether talking to bartender, watching TV with subtitles, playing darts, playing billiards, singing, or talking with friends or strangers). I usually go once a month and mostly on Sundays

Chikos is a small karaoke bar with a pool table. Their ac didn't work very well, so it got pretty hot inside. Their foods and drinks are about average. But their air was unbearable even turning on all the fans in the room. They shouldn't be open unless they fix their ac

You had me at HELLO. Quite honestly, I think Chiko's has such a unique welcoming atmosphere. It never ceases to amaze me when someone/people walk thru the door that at least someone knows someone, is a friend of a friend, or stops to say hello and "talk story" with the bartender/wait staff. Welcome to Chiko's Tavern: the friendly and inviting neighborhood bar =) My friends and I always have a great time as we find that it's a great place to hang out, have some drinks or pupus, or sing. Yes, as in sing a song. Karaoke anyone?! AMBIANCE: Seating is available at the bar, tables, or at the cozy couch areas. FOOD: Recent items I've tried from their menu include: 1) Tater-tot Nachos: Yum! Very good! 2) Mochiko chicken: Very, very Satisfactory =) 3) Garlic fries: I love french fries. Need I say more?? 4) Grilled cheese sandwiches: So simple yet so delicious! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed these. A winner surely. SERVICE: Outstanding. The servers/wait staff provide such terrific service. They're quite friendly, patient, attentive, and always check with you to make sure things are alright. They treat everyone as if you're family or good friend, and always seem to have a smile on their face even if they're busy. PARKING: Hit or miss honestly. Chiko's shares a parking lot with a yakiniku restaurant, so depending on what day of the week or time of night the lot may be full. Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood. Bottom Line: Terrific service. Good food. Cheerful atmosphere.

Somewhat of a throwback, Chiko's Tavern is an out of the way hole in the wall that locals have been going to for over 40 years. It's a small bar that serves pupus (appetizers) and a place to come and sing karaoke. The Spam musubi is grilled to caramelize the outside then topped with shoyu (soy sauce). The Spam tops a bed of rice and then wrapped in nori. This is a classic Hawaiian dish and one that is prepated well. The kalbi ribs are marinated in shoyu, sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil and then grilled. The kalbi ribs are cut thin and the marinade and char of the grill bring out a wonderful combination of sweet, salty and a little bit of spice from the ginger and some added chili. The food is not gourmet by any means, but for the people of Hawaii, it's comfort food at its finest.

Thursday Nights at Chiko's is the place to be for live Hawaiian music! I just recently went to this establishment and was very impressed! There's parking on the side of the building, bathrooms, air conditioning, live music, full bar, darts, karaoke, and awesome bar food! I ordered the musubi roll $6, mochiko chicken $8, rice 50 cents, and steak, onions, and mushrooms $15. I think I found my new lax spot on a Thursday night! The staff are super friendly and quick service!

It was a Friday night and we got there at 10pm and although it wasn't full of people, we absolutely LOVED it! The VIP table was spacious and we had a stripper pole to dance with and it was super fun! We got Tito's vodka and it came with 3 mixers of our choice and Redbull. The servers were fun and attentive and made excellent drinks. The cost was about $350 and totally worth it! The DJ played a good mix and since our group age ranged between 24 to 54, everyone had fun and liked the mix. I look forward to returning and bringing more friends

They just don't have the space. So we can probably only spend two hours here maximum especially if you're wearing heels although maybe some people can wear heels all day without sitting. The problem and the disappointment is that the drinks are way too expensive. $16 for mediocre drinks that are mostly ice cubes in small plastic cups. And then, if they do have specials, they run out of them. Before the event even starts. That's my biggest problem with this place. This is the only queer space on the island that has weak small drinks. For a high price. That is not a typical culture of a queer space. All the other queer spaces have much larger stronger better drinks, and the prices are lower. It's really a bummer because I will only order one drink here and then if I want to have more drinks go somewhere else. But it's OK shouldn't have to drink to have fun anyway as I suppose. Even the Republic has bigger better drinks, and they're not even a dedicated queer space.

The bartending staff is absolutely incredible--everyone is warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. They keep the drinks flowing and the karaoke rotation moving smoothly, which makes the whole night feel effortless and fun. Karaoke is free during their "power hour" from 7-8pm, and after that, songs are only $1 each, which is more than fair. There's a solid song selection, though the web-based search can be a little tricky since there's no smart search. Pro tip: stick to 2-3 keywords like they recommend and you'll find what you need. The crowd is one of the best parts--a great mix of locals and tourists. While it's a gay bar, the vibe is very inclusive and welcoming, and everyone feels comfortable and invited to join in.
