They always have live music, art for sale on the walls, and characters to talk to at the bar. If you're looking for a drink or an ear day or night, Hanks got you. The bartenders make their drinks generously and the beer selection is "perfectly acceptable" as my father in law would say.

Rating: Hank's used to be our go-to "hole-in-the-wall"…read morekaraoke spot, but the toxic behavior of the larger Chocolate Chucky-faced bartender who hosts the karaoke nights has completely ruined it. After bringing dozens of friends here over the years, we are officially done. If you visit, be careful: * Unsolicited sexual advances. I'm used to being hit on by bartenders but this guy was way out of his territory. He is gross and constantly had to dodge his unwanted advances especially with his girlfriend working there. Seriously?? Ew. Stage Ego: The host (same heavy set guy) prefers hearing himself sing over managing a fair rotation for the paying customers. * Retaliation & Hostility: After I turned down highly inappropriate personal advances from this bartender, he began actively punishing me--ignoring my orders and burying my karaoke requests at the absolute bottom of the list. * Short-Challenged & Ripped Off: on too many occasions I'd hand him a $20 for a $5 drink then never give me change --continues to serve other customers avoiding eye contact or pretending he doesn't hear me ask for my change. Other times he'd claim I never paid him at all. That was the last straw. A bar is only as good as the people running it. We're tired of the hostility, ego, and financial dishonesty. There are plenty of other great karaoke spots nearby that actually respect their customers--go to those instead.

Folks - You want a piece of history - this is YOUR place to go to!…read more Oldest continuous in Hawaii!! So what who cares you say? Let me drop some history bombs on you folks - There are only 12 survivors left alive from the infamous day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. 12!!!!! The sole last survivor of the Arizona was interred a few years back. Now THIS BAR - I got a WHOLE HISTORY LESSON!!! Wanna know where your granny's and uncle's hooch was coming from during the Roaring 20's guess wheeeeeere? Cuz this bar still has the trap door that lets you to gueeees where - you you know it a harbor!!!!! The barkeep there gave me a very good intro of the entire history - test there was a brothel upstairs (most bars did to appease the lonely mil folk before going off to war - or even earlier) The floors is original - so is the thick glass for the actual bar. What my barkeep also informed me - was each naval ship had their own designated bar. This particulate one was designated to the USS Arizona. so when you go have yer beverage here - tread carefully, you just might've walking on the very same floor your grandfather, great uncle or great grandfather did . Do NOT disrespect this sacred place! Oh by the bay the day have really cool shirts. They also run an operation to donate to those in need. ask the barkeep for details. When you go here use yer utmost respect - and do not desecrate this place. Consider this sacred ground! for those who passed before us!!! And if you happen to spill a lil bit of beer or whatever yer drinking - that's a term of respect for the ancestors. But please respect the historical significance. Enjoy

Only difference now is they are a sit down establishment serving margaritas and the like. I try carne asada at almost every Mexican eatery I stop at and this place rises to the top. Authentic taste; as if you were somewhere in Mexico. Any menu item is well flavored. That's all you need to know. Oh, their portions are huge so be mindful when ordering. If I had to pick one thing bordering negative it is the location as they are on Kalihi Street well into the Kalihi Valley. But, you will get used to it after your first visit; afterall, it's worth the journey into the "valley" Couple things you should know and that is chicken enchiladas are not made daily. I think it's Tuesday and Thursday? Not sure but it is limited. If you don't already know, their Kapahulu location closed a few years ago. They do intend on opening another location in Pauoa Valley I'm told and another location in Pearl Kai... I hope I'm not spreading rumors.... Regardless.... get there or be square!
