As a bartender the bartenders here super rude for no reason! My partner and I came and he's a people pleaser who tried to clean up after the people who sat in our seats before us and the bartender acted like we spat in his face. From that moment he was the rudest person ever and made excuses not to serve us. My partner was literally begging for service while the heavy set bearded guy Danny passed us onto the long hair guy who reluctantly served us. Then every drink after that was a hassle and made us feel like a bother. Everyone who worked on 5 4/18 made us feel like we weren't welcome. Happy Pride, Honolulu! Looking back at past reviews spanning over a decade, I can't believe that this was my first time at Wang Chung's! I was already in Waikiki for work when I got a text asking if I wanted to go out for Karaoke - she had a friend visiting from LA and even tho it was a Thursday- I was down. This tiny little bar was PACKED on a Thursday night. And literally everyone was so friendly and the vibes were just right. It really felt like a safe space. I loved the decor from astro boy, the rainbow neon signs, and the old school airplane beverage carts! I only ordered a singular tequila shot with a pineapple back - so I can't speak on their speciality cocktails or anything like that. I will say, that I couldn't do my shot in one go and had to half it. I had a great night, made some new friends and reconnected with an old childhood friend. 5 stars for the amazing memories at Wang Chung's. Maybe our first mistake was coming too late and too sober, but the bartenders were absolutely the most rude people that I have ever met. I am from the other side of the island and we came to Waikiki to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were so excited to sing Kareoke but even though we put our songs in and paid, we never got to sing. Ohh Wang Chungs! Although it's labeled "gay bars", I recommend this place to everyone that wants to have a great time! The atmosphere is so welcoming if you are local or visiting Hawaii doesn't matter if you are gay or straight. Great neighborhood gay karaoke bar, but of course all are welcome. The toughest part is finding this place. I walked back and forth 3 times before I realized you have to walk to the back of a hotel. Karaoke starts whenever you feel like it and it's a dollar per request so bring cash. The lychee martini is good and packs a punch!! Really chill neighborhood local vibe here. Brought my shy daughter for her 21st Birthday after- dinner party here with a few friends for karaoke and for her 1st ETOH(alcohol) legal shot, I was anticipating for us to leave within an hour but she ended up singing to her heart's content to songs she requested in front of strangers, having a duet with a stranger, and for someone's first time singing karaoke in public and introverted she ended up having FUN and had the best 21st bday a mother can plan for spontaneously ! The drinks we ordered are all dangerously yummy , the Lilikoi shot she had which was offered by the gracious owner went down well like juice ... great ALOHA-vibe in this place where strangers ended up partying like OHANA after a few drinks and song requests .... Well, I didn't see any Flock of Seagulls hairdos in here, but there was definitely a karaoke set-up in here just waiting for wannabe singers to wail or belt out depending on what vintage song is playing on the speakers. Jamie W. decided to rest back at the hotel, so I ventured out solo to this spot. Like the other two gay bars we patronized in Honolulu, it wasn't obvious from the street where it was. For this bar, you walk up a flight of stairs at the Stay Hotel on Koa Avenue and go past the lobby through a glass door. It's a more darkly sophisticated-looking spot than Hula Bar & Lei Stand or Bacchus Waikiki. Purple, pink, and indigo dominated the clubby space. It was a low-key night when I arrived with just three people at one side of the bar. There was a talkative guy sitting on my side who turned out to be a karaoke regular. It would've included leg kicks and a split at the end. OK, I may be exaggerating just a bit. One of my favorite karaoke bars in town. The vibes are immaculate, the bartenders are friendly, the drinks are strong, and I love supporting a local bar that supports the local LGBTQIA+ community! While they tend to be most popular during the weekends, there's still some amazing events that happen at the bar during the week. They currently have Trivia Night every other Monday at 7:30 PM and Musical Bingo every Wednesdays from 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM; I happened to come during Musical Bingo with a friend of mine and had such a fun time. If you're looking to branch out from your typical mixed drinks, they have a Local Drag Queen Cocktail Menu that features cocktails that are inspired by local Hawai'i drag queens. I tried Cara Mel's Calamansi Smash (Bulleit Rye, Aperol, Calamansi Sour) and it was the perfect summertime drink! My friend also enjoyed Emma Gration's Hibiscus Paloma (tequila, rose, hibiscus grapefruit syrup). Karaoke happens throughout the night and it's easy to sign up if you want to belt out your favorite songs. Simply scan the QR code, find your song, and write the song and your name on a slip of paper before handing it to your friendly bartender. It does cost $1 per song and the queue can fill up fast, especially on a weekend, so make sure to get your songs in as soon as you decide. I've seen people wait nearly an hour for their song on a busy night, so plan accordingly. Parking is always a gamble in Waikiki, and this place is no exception. I managed to score street parking a block away, but if you don't want to take your chances with street parking, there's parking at Honolulu Zoo if you don't mind the walk. If not, I highly recommend taking an Uber/Lyft here, as it's less of a hassle. read more

Seems pretty odd to me to deny guests a request to sing one song and have employees take those spots instead. I also did not find the bar tenders very welcoming. And lastly, they closed at 1:30 even if hours say they open until 2am. I'm not sure why this place got so much hype! :( read more

I did a hefty amount of vacation research and as an avid karaoke fan, this place was high on my excitement and priority lists. I even reached out on other social media to inquire about this place's vibe and quality. I was told to bring my A-game, and that it might be too busy to get a song in. Excellent; I love a challenge. So I get to Honolulu, and seek this place out. Parking is nonexistent. We circled four times on a Tuesday. I finally jumped out and went in to ask the bartender where to park. They (and I stress that pronoun in respect to the community) said to park in back. I said "where all the 'no parking' signs are?" They just shrugged their broad shoulders. Whatever. I decide to chance it and park, come inside and scope the place. It's half full, and NO ONE is paying attention to the singer, the song, the list, the bar, or the people sitting at said bar. I says to Mabel I says "uhh... okay?" Come to find out, this place does not have a stage. It does not have a KJ. It does not have a good sound system. It DOES have weak drinks. It DOES have a bathroom that makes the entire place smell like urine. And it DOES have a "let anyone including the homeless tweakers in" door policy. Astonishingly, bartenders run the list. So their service suffers, as does the efficiency of the list. Songs requests cost a dollar, a new concept to me theoretically to offset the cost of them pausing service to put in Becky's next track. Whatever. Maybe this is just trial by fire to weed out the amateurs. That's fine, I have seen these kinds of places. It just makes me think that the karaoke quality will be epic. Nope. First singer is an unattractively drunk older woman who remains seated at the bar to sing her song. I dunno maybe this is because there is no stage (and no real audience to speak of). Her song starts and she stays silent for the first verse, tells the bartender that this isn't her song, and the whole ugly nightmare starts over. It's the same song. She complains again. They spend ten minutes figuring out the situation and it turns out it was the right song all along; the woman just couldn't read the lyrics on the screen. Turns out she can't sing for rubbish either. NEXT. I put my song in and I am ten songs down. There are maybe 20 people in the place and 3/4 of them look like they have no interest in even being there much less singing. I do some quick arithmetic and decide I have no interest in being in this place for one more song, one more drink, one more second. If you like karaoke, skip this place. If you like good drinks, skip this place. If you like friendly service, skip this place. If you like scummy, overhyped, holes in the wall with no charm or redeeming qualities, definitely go to Wang Chung's. Really fun vibe. Great atmosphere but the staff sung at least 2 times more songs than any of the patrons. People are paying to put their songs in and the 3 hours we were there we sung 2 songs and in the same 3 hours we heard the same staff singing constantly every couple songs. This review is for the chicken sandwich pop up at wang chungs done by double fat ice cream. The social media images were enticing, the sandwich was thick, but definitely lacked flavor (i got it dry). I definitely expected better for $18/sandwich. They will do more pop ups here, but it was worth trying once. Terrible terrible place stop go for karaoke. The Staff is a Scam. They take your one dollar bill to request a song to sing yet they never give you a chance to sing it. My friends were there recently. Several of us chose songs to sing giving a dollar each or more and after several hours our songs never materialize so that we could sing. When we confronted the bartender, she was very nasty and we all left. So if you're a tourist or a visitor, they will not allow you to sing your songs instead they give priority to their locals or friends and you sit there for several hours and never get the chance to karaoke Absolutely would not ever come back here. You now have to order through the Wang's app and a bartender will come by to drop everyones drinks. Microphones aren't passed around from one singer to another, it's now in a karaoke booth towards the front entrance. Kind of reminds me of this one bar in Narita called "The Cage." Wow you guys really know how to ruin a fun night out. We came to the bar to celebrate a friend's birthday and some of us put in songs to sing for karaoke. My partner and two others were waiting over an hour for their turn to come, but it seemed that their slot kept getting pushed back. I noticed that the bartenders were putting people that came in later than us a higher slot to sing! When we noticed that their turn was never going to come my partner asked the bartender and she got very belligerent. They post karaoke etiquette on their screens, but they don't adhere to their own rules. It seems if you give a really big tip you get put to the top of the list. Very sad for people that just wanted to go and sing. Night ruined. And very poor attitude from the one female bartender. Definitely not the same experience we had a few years ago. read more

My friends and I were trying to find a place near our hotel that was still open where we can drink and this was one of two places that we could find that was still open passed 11pm! Karaoke was great!! I believe it's a $1 per song for Karaoke and you have to pick the song from their online list. Ryan and Tristan were great even though Tristan is new. I love the way you place your orders which is through an app very efficient and contactless. The only kink is the karaoke list of songs is on a separate site than the drink orders. I didn't know they had food items but I had food already. Definitely a good time!! Even came back on Saturday night but they were at capacity and never called or texted us. read more

A cool bar located inside a hotel which I believe is called Stay. Did I mention that this is a karaoke bar? They're taking COVID protocols seriously and have tons of great drink options. When we were there back in October, COVID protocols were still very strict. Not a ton of places were open past 9, but we found that this was. If you choose to do some karaoke while there, you'll have a great time. You're given a room to sing from and mic covers are given for cleanliness reasons. read more
