Climb up the stairs to get into GS Studio

Came here after walking through Waikiki on a rainy afternoon passing by all sorts of food truck parks to get here. Place is in a hotel building on Lewers between Kuhio and Kalakaua. When I got there a guy was at the bar who just told me to walk into a room and start singing as it wasn't crowded at all so I got a room right away. They have both a Japanese setup with one device and also a Healsonic setup with a device to enter in the song codes but it is set for only the English catalog and no other languages. The setup was not bad apart from a few glitches in the very beginning. I just looked up songs on my own Healsonic app on my phone and entered them into their pad. Price was very reasonable - came during their happy hour so it was well worth it.

Here's proof for whatever his name is thank you for inflicting your own suffering on others

If you're looking for a place to celebrate a birthday and be greeted like an inconvenience the moment you walk in, this is the spot. The front desk attendant was clearly a miserable person. It's impressive, really, to make guests feel unwelcome that quickly. The venue itself looks awful, which matched the attitude perfectly. We had a reservation, but that didn't seem to matter. I was denied entry because my ID expired later that day (I'm 23 years old), and I was confidently told it was "already invalid." That's simply incorrect but instead of explaining anything with basic respect which I would've understood his concern of getting in trouble , he went straight to rude and dismissive. But it is funny because he has no issue letting underage people in with fakes but at least those are probably not expired? Creep. It was 6 of us we didn't fight with him about it or anything. We took the hint, left, and spent our money somewhere that actually understands customer service. If you enjoy being talked down to in a run-down setting, this might be your place. Otherwise, anywhere else would be a better option.

I'm rarely in Waikiki and the chances that you'll run into me at a Karaoke bar in Waikiki is less than 1%. BUT when I was asked to help chaperone my girlfriends daughters bday party ofcourse I was game! Located in the Waikiki Joy Hotel on Lewers is GS Karaoke. There is paid public parking in the back lot, since I was running late I didn't have a chance to check with the place on parking. Don't let the dim lights and outdated decor fool you this is a legitimate Karaoke bar. They have have been in business for awhile probably because their prices are reasonable and I love that their drink prices are NOT that overpriced. I called ahead and reserved a Karaoke room we had the 2nd to the largest room and it was perfect. Downloaded an App and was able to choose songs by keying in the song number directly into a keypad. Gone are the days of trying to feed a Karaoke machine dollar bills for each song! So the girls sang Taylor swift and Ariana grande to their hearts content and they kicked out the adults because they wanted privacy (that age) we watched them through the door and had some adult drinks at the bar. We brought in our own birthday cake and they do allow you to bring in some food. The service was friendly! The main thing is that the girls had a blast they had enough room to sit and dance and the adults had fun as well. I may need to round up some friends and come back down it was fun!

Honestly, this was not an enjoyable experience. The staff have like negative aloha spirit. I can see why they act like they hate their lives when they work in such a dump. Staff don't know how to count since I was charged for 9 people cover... we had 6 people. They try to rush you to pay with the card you put down at the beginning, so you don't catch them overcharging you. They charge an 18% service fee on groups over 6, even if you don't order anything from the bar. Not sure why we're charged that when they don't even show you what room you're in. Fee isn't even mentioned when you inquire about a room or when you arrive. All the sofas in the room had cushions that were probably 15 years old, all cracked and begging for mercy. The bathrooms really just sealed the deal. They 1000% had not seen any type of cleaner since they opened. Thinking about calling the department of health on this place, don't even want to know what the kitchen/behind the bar looks like. They make you download an app to look at the karaoke songs, but you then have to type your song numbers into a small keyboard number pad. Of course the cord to the pad is so short someone has to sit like right next to the tv. Doubt the mic covers are ever changed. Beating myself up that I gave this place my business but you learn from your mistakes I guess

G S Studio is one of the two private-room karaoke spots my friends choose to go to on Oahu. (The other being Air Park.) It is not fancy, but it has one of the best song selections, a good amount of different size rooms, pretty good mics and audio, and a decent variety of drinks. Call ahead to make a reservation for your group. Prices depend on the size of the room you're in (see my photo for current room rates). G S Studio's karaoke setup in each room is pretty bare-bones: All of the AV equipment visible in the front of the room, 2 wireless mics, old leather benches, no decorations, dimmable lights, and a tiny disco light for some ambiance. The "controller" in each room is a single wired computer number pad/keyboard (like the type you'd see in an office), which is a bit underwhelming and confusing at first. I appreciated that they put covers over the microphones (they look like little hair nets) for some hygiene. Recently, G S Studio upgraded to the Healsonic karaoke library, which requires you to download an app. But it makes searching for songs much easier than the old printed books, plus you can create an account and save your favorites. And, any other karaoke studio that also uses Healsonic will have the same song lists. You have to use the Healsonic app to search for the song number, then input it on the number pad. Hit "Enter" to submit the song. Hit "+" to skip the song. Other buttons controlled the song speed and pitch, but it takes some experimentation to figure out which is which since it's just a numeric keypad. The lyric videos were almost all slightly delayed (the words lagging behind the music), so make sure you're very familiar with the songs you put in, or it'll be hard to follow. G S Studio has bathrooms that are old but clean (at least when we went) and a full bar. Overall, it's not a fancy place, but it's one of the better karaoke spots on the island, we have a great time whenever we go there, and we'll continue to go back. Parking tip: Finding parking in Waikiki is terrible! Go to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and park there, and get dinner or a snack beforehand. There's a special kama'aina discount for locals -- any purchase over $10 will get you 3 hrs free parking! Just bring your receipt, parking ticket, and Hawaii ID to the visitor center at the center stage. (I think the office closes around 8pm so make sure to go before then.)

As soon as we walked in, the staff welcomed us with great energy and were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the night. The karaoke setup was fantastic with a huge song selection and a great sound system that made everyone sound like a star. Whether you're a confident singer or just singing for fun, the crowd and staff make you feel comfortable getting up on stage. One thing that really stood out was the food--it was absolutely amazing. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and way better than what you'd normally expect from a bar. The food alone makes this place worth visiting. Between the incredible staff, the fun karaoke atmosphere, and the delicious food, this place is easily one of the best spots for a night out. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to have a great time with good music, great people, and amazing food. I'll definitely be coming back! A gem hidden in plain sight…read more My friends and I spontaneously wanted to sing karaoke on a Saturday night. I obviously didn't plan this lol So we called a few places and I remembered seeing Hawaii Voice on the news and I was always inteigued about the experience of this place. We called and they could accommodate us right away. We headed there and they had the beautiful room all ready to go. The room was huge and clean! Decorations were colorful and bright. The couches were very comfortable and clean. The TVs were HUGE! They were the biggest screens I've ever had for karaoke. The system has plenty of features, and for some, it may be "too much". They offer they're own karaoke catalog system, an older karaoke system (no videos, just lyrics), and YouTube was also integrated. One of the karaoke systems was cool cause you could see the music videos and can sing along. The only thing we noticed for some songs, the synchronization of music and lyrics were off so just make sure you know the song, otherwise, you're gonna be a beat behind. Also, the YouTube system didn't allow ANY song to be sung. The system didn't support some well-known karaoke channels because of the video formats. Lastly, the choice of Japanese songs was bare, but that's not really a problem if you don't sing Japanese songs. They have drinks and food, but we only ordered drinks because we already ate...and we like alcohol. They had a fairly good selection for hards and beers. Sorry, I cannot give an opinion on food. Staff is awesome. We met the owner and he treated us so well. To squeeze us in on a Saturday was a treat, and also a lesson to us on better planning (well, my friends, not me because this wouldn't have happened lol). If you wanna sing karaoke with friends and let out some energy, give this place a try! It's beautiful and will make any karaoke experience fun!

I've been here twice and my opinion it was fun but very interesting place. Recommended by my older brother who frequents Cafe Den Mau often. Located at the Yee Hop Plaza on North King Street, same building as Hawaii Dim Sum & Seafood, (after our dinner there) we went straight up to the 2nd floor. Note getting to Cafe Den Mau is a little sketchy, scary in the building but once you arrive its not as bad after all. hehe. You will enter a long corridor, the 2nd floor looks abandoned, old, but there are other businesses in this plaza. The size of Cafe Den Mau is small but perfect, there are a few tables, even a stage with disco lights, drums, and piano. Kind of like in Vietnam although I haven't been but this is what I heard from another customer. husband Jimmy and wife team runs the karaoke spot from 9-2 am nightly. ( best to call if you plan to visit, have questions, or would like to reserve a table or private party.) limited drinks, mostly beer and wine are available, free to bring wine with a fee. ( $20.-30) per bottle. We brought 3 bottles during my first visit with my siblings. You can also bring pupus. Selecting songs are easy, all digital. All songs are available, both our visits, seems like we all were happy with selecting our song choices. We all enjoyed ourselves, first time experience. We even went up to the stage to sing, dance and receiving fake colorful flowers with $1.tip. Fyi, If you do receive flowers with tip, that will belong to the owners. It goes back in the bucket for the owners. hehe. We visited the 2nd time with friends ( 2 Fridays in a row) the same impression, getting to the Karaoke spot, seeing the impression on their faces ( sketchy) but they actually had a great time singing, hanging out, observing the other party that was there. We bought 4 bottles of beer this time, didn't BYOB but I brought chips, dips and some desserts to snack on. The Heineken were $6. and Corona were $8. All in all, first time visiting a Vietnamese Karaoke bar and we will def. be back! Parking available in the back of building's private lot, after hours no need to pay the meter or street parking I know you wouldn't want to park on the street due to the homeless situation at Chinatown.
