My husband and I were ruffied/drugged here last Wednesday 08/27 /26 while on vacation . My husband took one sip of my drink and was losing focus on the way out blacking out managed to get us out and back to the hotel. I had the entire drink already blacked out total completeamnesia for over 8-10 hours . I'm lucky to be alive as he described me laying on my back unconscious vomitting for hours if he had not been able to turn me repeatedly I probably would not be alive to write this . Took over 4 days to recover And preemptively, please don't victim shame and blame. We are 50 years old. Have a lot of experience with alcohol and very well. Know the difference between over indulgence and being drugged. We were both drugged once before in our lives. Owner Please review the footage at the time of shift change when Cedric was getting off shift. It's obviously too late to help us, but if we could prevent this from happening to anyone else there. Please spread the word. This is a big problem in bars. It's come to having a drink test kits or staying at home to have some drinks. Unfortunately, there are some evil people out there. Please help people if you see someone like this don't assume they have had too much they may need to get to a hospital . . People die, have seizures and of course we all know how easy to be assaulted when so incapacitated . *^**Response from owner was that I should not have spoken out publicly but reached out to contact him privately . my response was that I wanted to send a loud and clear message to the perpetrator( all fun and games until the FELOny charges ) to not do this again in your bar and owner suggested that perhaps it happened somewhere else and this and that this has never occurred in his establishment 26 years, however we went nowhere before or afterwards. Also, owner stated bartender, said we left we were walking steadily that we looked fine when we left when actually I was a zombie with no recollection of leaving. This is the hallmark of being roofied. if I was" blackout drunk", which I would've had to have been to not recall anything after 30 min in your bar or leaving or 8 hours to follow. I would not have been "walking steadily" as you stated. Unfortunately, denying this actually happened or staying quiet is not the way to try to fix this problem. It is very widespread.. in California some years back they passed a law that bars must post signs to raise awareness of being roofied and offer drink spike test kits at cost as a bar owner please do all you can to ensure what is within your control this does not happen again in your bar educate yourself and staff what to look for and what to do ALSo ... since you just announced publicly you have a poor video monitoring system and apologized you could provide me any info ... that is more for an owner who has a lot more to lose if his staff or patrons are drugging patrons YOU stand to lose a lot more if there is a bad outcome ( ie death by choking ala Elvis style) . We stopped by In Between Waikiki for karaoke, and the night started off great. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, we ordered drinks, settled in, and started singing. As the night went on, the bar got much busier, but we continued ordering drinks (I had around five, my boyfriend had four), paying for every karaoke song. The experience changed because of the bartender's attitude. We put in a couple of songs back-to-back since we knew we'd be leaving soon, and he seemed irritated by it. That didn't make much sense to me, especially since it's a karaoke bar and customers pay for each song they sing. The other bartender working was also putting in multiple songs throughout the night, so it felt like there was a double standard. Another issue was ordering drinks. The bar is extremely small, so after placing our orders, my boyfriend would step a few feet away to make room for other customers to get to the bar while waiting for the drinks to be made. We never left the area--we were literally only a few feet away--but the bartender acted like this was somehow a problem and gave us attitude over it. Toward the end of the night, about 20 minutes before closing, I turned in one last song request for my boyfriend. The bartender told me they weren't taking any more songs, so I simply threw the request away and moved on. Then he came looking for me afterward asking what the song was. At that point, I was over the interaction. Overall, the atmosphere and karaoke were fun, but the customer service really took away from the experience. We spent money on drinks, paid for every song we sang, and treated the staff respectfully. I just expected the same courtesy in return. With the purest of intentions (ahem), Jamie W. and I have patronized at least a half-dozen gay bars in Honolulu, and hands down, this was our favorite. It has to be the smallest as well. Hidden away in a narrow walkway between Lau'ula Street and Kalakaua Avenue, it definitely doesn't provide the space offered by spots like Hula's Bar & Lei Stand and Chiko's Tavern. However, we felt genuine personal warmth from the staff and not the nasty kind your dirty mind presumed. I think they recognize the value of a personal connection when quarters are a bit tight. They offer karaoke at a $1 per song with an extensive set list. I was ready to cover "I'm Every Woman", but unfortunately I forgot to invite my backup singers. Ahem. The bartender was super friendly and also an excellent singer. We ended up meeting a mix of other visitors and locals, and it definitely felt like one of those places people casually pop into--welcoming, unpretentious, and fun. One thing that really surprised me was the sound system. For such a small place, the audio quality was phenomenal and made singing feel way more legit than expected. Quite possibly the friendliest bar I've ever visited. It's always a little unnerving dropping in on an unknown place while traveling, but I wanted to get my karaoke fix, and they came highly recommended, so I decided to take my chances and stop in. Had a great time at In Between, in a tourist town, any night can be like a Friday night at home and this place didn't disappoint. Sure it's small, it probably only fits 20 people, and sure, you can fit a couple more who spill out into the alley walkway, but everyone was singing along and imbibing on $9 drinks, which honestly, for the area $9 was a steal. I've never seen a pay to play karaoke, but it worked. Look up their song list on the website, pick your song, hand it to the staff, they'll add you to the list and $1 to your bar tab. Small hole in the wall dive karaoke bar and when I mean dive and small I mean divey and tiny! And the name means exactly what it says: it's in the middle of an alley! Their website indicates that they are the friendliest gay bar in Waikiki and so far they are but we haven't been anywhere else yet. Daily happy hour from 12 to 8 with 5.00 well specials and 3.00 beers. The only downside is it is very small and very loud so to have a conversation and socialize this isn't the place. Atmosphere is great however the bartenders only like gay men. I thought I would feel accepted here but instead the bartender ignored me and when I finally got his attention he yelled at me and told me not to interrupt him. He ended up kicking me out and then chased me out yelling aggressively because I didn't leave a tip. So unprofessional.
