I'm here on a trip to see my fiancé perform at HB social bar (Ekali) and we stopped by this place in the day after seeing such good reviews. My goodness after being here for 5 minutes I had happy tears in my eyes. The love, authenticity and hospitality here is unbeatable. This is a MUST stop if you're visiting Waikiki. As someone who comes from a same sex family, I wish my mom was here to enjoy this with me. Bless you all. Much love. Thank you for helping create memories on this trip. Also, the Mexican Candy Jelly Shot is an absolute MUST.

With the purest of intentions (ahem), Jamie W. and I have patronized at least a half-dozen gay bars in Honolulu, and hands down, this was our favorite. It has to be the smallest as well. Hidden away in a narrow walkway between Lau'ula Street and Kalakaua Avenue, it definitely doesn't provide the space offered by spots like Hula's Bar & Lei Stand and Chiko's Tavern. However, we felt genuine personal warmth from the staff and not the nasty kind your dirty mind presumed. I think they recognize the value of a personal connection when quarters are a bit tight. They offer karaoke at a $1 per song with an extensive set list. I was ready to cover "I'm Every Woman", but unfortunately I forgot to invite my backup singers. Ahem. Jabriel and Jacob were our bartenders during our two visits, and they were simply great, easy to chat with and made our $5 drinks with skill (photo: https://yelp.to/j9jljDJOMD). Among several libations were a Tequila Sunrise with a kick (photo: https://yelp.to/ZUAVRQ3TCd) and a very full Bloody Mary (photo: https://yelp.to/iUbbjQCL7G). If we lived in Honolulu, I'm sure we'd be regulars. Judging from their extremely active Instagram account, it appears many locals feel the same way. DRINKS - 5 stars...for $5, we couldn't have asked for more...could we? AMBIANCE - 4 stars...very compact in here but luckily we came before it started filling up SERVICE - 5 stars...Jabriel and Jacob were aces TOTAL - 5 stars...I'm every wo....oh never mind RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? My buddy and I had the best time drinking and singing at this spot randomly! Cheers to our local Usher Dante, Richard the Canadian, and Kailey the Shania Twain guru! Merry Christmas ya filthy animals! Service was incredible and cheers to both Phillip and Jazz for taking care of us with drinks and fun!

Came in on a Monday and it went from just our group of 3 to a packed house!!! So much fun!!! The drinks are perfect and great pours! I love how the karaoke is done, just right at the bar and so many song options to choose from! Side note: there is a food truck out back and you can bring your food in to the bar to eat and drink and that food truck is delicious!!!! so glad I have the opportunity to hang out at In Between, the bartenders were amazing all night!!

This place is small but the vibe is amazing. Encouragement from everyone. I love a good karaoke bar. Understand you put the song in and have to keep up with it on your own so just pay attention to the numbers.

Good service and friendly staff. Fun karaoke experience. A bit tricky to find as it's literally tucked in an alley between two buildings.

Ask the Community - In Between Waikiki

    Has In Between reopened yet?

No, due to a few unforeseen issues we are not QUITE ready yet. I HOPE we will re-open within 2 weeks, but I can't give an exact date yet. Thanks for asking. We will definitely spread the word when the big day finally comes!

Is this place open this weekend (7/23)?

    Has this place reopened?

In Between has not re-opened yet, but we hope to do so in the next week or so. We are completing a complete renovation which will include a more spacious interior and a new outside serving area. I hope you will visit us after we re-open. Thanks… Read more

    Are they open?

As of 06/08/2021 this place is still closed and is under renovations. We asked around they said it would be close for at least another month.

Can I enter if I'm 20 and not gonna drink?

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately we are not able to allow under 21 y.o. patrons as we are strictly a bar, not a bar/restaurant. Please do come and see us after your next birthday! Aloha- John (owner)

The beautiful and large, open-air bar/restaurant is located on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand Hotel and has a nice, relaxed feel. There are tables by the open side of the lounge where you can watch the action in Waikiki below. Hula's is much more commercial than the other gay bars I visited in Honolulu, as the servers wore name tags and they had an extensive food menu. The decor was a little kitschy, too, but I loved it! I only came for a drink, though, which was a Blue Hawaiian (of course!), and it was delicious. The place wasn't too crowded while I was there, though it started to pick up a bit right when I was about to leave. There was a live singer performing local music, which was thoroughly enjoyable and the servers were friendly and attentive, too. I'll bet this is a really great place to hang out when it's got a drag show or a deejay going on. I'll definitely have to check this place out more the next time I'm in Honolulu. Five stars for atmosphere and potential!

The bartending staff is absolutely incredible--everyone is warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. They keep the drinks flowing and the karaoke rotation moving smoothly, which makes the whole night feel effortless and fun. Karaoke is free during their "power hour" from 7-8pm, and after that, songs are only $1 each, which is more than fair. There's a solid song selection, though the web-based search can be a little tricky since there's no smart search. Pro tip: stick to 2-3 keywords like they recommend and you'll find what you need. The crowd is one of the best parts--a great mix of locals and tourists. While it's a gay bar, the vibe is very inclusive and welcoming, and everyone feels comfortable and invited to join in.
