Needed my pho-fix while visiting my sister in Nixa Missouri. At here twice during said visit, and oh man, everything I tried was delicious! They have a huge menu so unfortunately in my short visit, I was only able to try the pho (w/rare beef), the potstickers, the spring roll, and the egg roll. All was very good! For pho: I recommend tasting the broth before adding hoison or siracha sauces - not needed, not IMO. I will definitely return to Hong Yen next summer! read more

This is now hands down my favorite place in Springfield for Vietnamese cuisine. The Pho is made perfectly and served piping hot the Bun Bo Hue has fantastic flavor wish it was spicier but a great rendition of Hue style cuisine. First, hit myself in the head because I forgot to take a pic of my meal or my friends. However, don't let discourage you. This place is great. A little hidden gem with a big shine. The food was both fast and very good. My friend recommended this place and I definitely plan on going back once I return to Springfield. The service was efficient and our waiter was patient with us, due to us not being able to make up mind with all the great things on the menu. I ordered the duck. And when I say that duck was juicy, tender and succulent. I forgot what my friends ordered once I laid eyes on my plate. The atmosphere had a homey feel to it. Everyone was greeted warmly. This is my favourite vietnamese restaurant in town. The bone broth used in the pho is so incredible, packed with so much flavor! I could live off this broth. The prices are low, and the portions are massive--such a great deal! I can usually make 2 meals out of one portion of their pho. Raw beef pho (#12 on the menu) is my go to. I recently heard about this new Vietnamese place called Hong Yen while eating out at a local Thai eatery. After having a dismal Vietnamese fare experience for dinner last night, I was still on the hunt to cure a craving I was having. So I decided to give Hong Yen's a shot. The restaurant itself is located inside the Imperial Shopping center (next to Billy Sims BBQ) on the northeast corner of Campbell and Battlefield. 1st Impressions: Once you walk in the atmosphere is quant and very welcoming. It's smaller in size when compared to some of the other Asian-style eateries around here, with seating for about 49 by my count. It was very clean and there was an ambiance set by the flowing waterfall wall and the Jazz style music playing. Upon entering, I was greeted by a lone waitress and I was asked to seat myself anywhere I like. Since I was by myself, I opted for the 2 person table. The food: When trying a new Asian-style eatery, I always ask about the tea selection (specifically the hot tea variety). I really enjoy a good hot cup of tea, and the waitress confirmed they offer a hot Oolong Tea. So I went with that while I perused the menu. When she came back with my tea, I was mildly disappointed. As it turned out their "Hot Oolong Tea" was a tea cup of hot water accompanied by a tea bag of Oolong Tea. Although it was still a good cup of tea when all was said and done, I was really hoping for a service of a hot tea kettle with tea leaves steeping inside. For my meal, I decided to check out the fresh Vietnamese Spring Rolls and a hot bowl of Phó Tai (Vietnamese rice noodle soup with thin rare beef strips). Side note, the waitress serving me didn't seem too knowledgeable of the menu based on overhearing her with other customers and because she kept pronouncing the Phó as Phō. I found it mildly entertaining, but maybe that's just me? It should also be noted here that this Vietnamese restaurant has the biggest and widest variety menu I've seen in this area. There really should be something here for everyone's tastes and likes. The Spring rolls came out promptly and came with two very full rolls which is always a welcomed sight. I've been to some places that try to pass off empty rolled up rice paper shells with little to nothing stuffed inside of them. This was not the case. In addition to the delicious looking Spring Rolls, the accompanying peanut-sauce looked thick, dark, and full-bodied just as if it were homemade. Without hesitation I added my dab of sirachai sauce and dove in. The combination of flavored in the rolls was just right. Sometimes there is too much mint, or too much green onion, or not enough meat, or nothing but rice noodles. Again, the combination was just right. When my Phó Tai came out, it was in the normal Phó bowl I'm accustomed to seeing along with a very fresh looking plate of veggies to add to it. The soup broth was dark and rich just as I'd expect it to and after diving into it I found there was a great balance of noodle to broth to beef ratio. A common theme I run into with Phó from a restaurant is not having enough noodles. After all was said and done though, I found myself just drinking the broth as well, which is rare for me in a restaurant setting. Final Thoughts: The food itself was great and left nothing wanting. The restaurant was clean and inviting, which made it easy to enjoy my meal. You can tell the level of quality this location is going for with the plastic chopsticks, the billfold menus, and decor. It almost hits on all cylinders for me. My only reservation was my server. She seemed somewhat timid, almost like she was afraid to talk to me. She also didn't appear to know the menu very well or what kind of food she was serving. When coming to a place like this I really enjoy chatting with my server about the food and when they don't know about the food it's kind of difficult. All-in-all, I will definitely be revisiting Hong Yen's to try out other menu items and see if they're just as delicious as what I had today. I would also highly recommend trying this place if you like Asian-style fare and are looking for something new to try. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. Finally, to give you an idea of price: My hot tea, Spring Rolls, and Phó Tai was $15.94 before tip. I found this little place while looking for a good noodle restaurant on a blustery day. I'm so happy I did! The prices are reasonable. The food is terrific, very tasty. The staff is super friendly. Really the only thing I don't like is the atmosphere. I'm not a fan of the converted strip mall experience at all. If this were a bonafide real restaurant with comfy booths, etc. this would easily be a 5 star rating for me. If you're looking for some good noodles, this is the place. read more

Hong Yen is every bit as good as Pho Kim if you are looking for awesome Vietnamese food with the added bonus of more plentiful parking and a slightly larger dining area. This place has definitely become my go-to pho spot. Sure, it was a little hot inside one day when I went inside to eat, but it was an unusually hot day for the area so I'll let that slide. Most often I prefer to grab takeout and eat at home, especially if I'm sick or hung over, and never once has my order been wrong or incomplete. I do reheat the broth when I get home since I like it EXTRA hot, but it's probably an unnecessary step for those that don't like liquid lava temps. The actual pho broth here is definitely the best I've had in the area, with a great balanced flavor that pho is known for. Perhaps I am being too critical, but I am taking off 1 star for their sriracha/ oyster sauces. I don't know why, but they always taste weird to me from here, and are part of the reason I prefer to eat at home, where i have my own bottles that taste far better. read more
