    Kung Pao Shrimp
    Dina P.

Me and my boyfriend finally had time and money to go out and enjoy ourselves, so we decided on a Chinese cuisine restaurant, we stumbled upon "Rice & Dumpling," we were pretty excited and were expecting a crowd. As we walked in we saw the employees sitting down, and then the server rushed towards us with greetings and navigating us to a booth. She was cute and sweet, no attitude. As we were sitting down I noticed the interior decoration, absolutely lovely and interesting way to design a space. The seating was clean, some booths had pillows, the tables were sturdy, I could say some more positives about the seating, but then I noticed how quiet the restaurant is, granted we were the only ones there for 20 minutes until two others walked in. There was no quiet music playing, which sure it's not necessary, but we felt like whispering the whole time. FOOD - I ordered the stir fry Kung Pao Shrimp, ordered it before at other restaurants and they never disappointed me, and my boyfriend ordered the stir fry Cilantro Beef. I got my food first, the food was sitting in a half-inch of oil. I took a bite and had to go straight for a sip of water, it was so salty, tasted almost as if somebody poured a whole thing of salt into the dish and it had a sort of spice that wasn't like any Chinese food I've eaten before. Some of the carrots were also undercooked, with a raw core. I'm never picky with my food and I've never sent a dish back, typically if I don't like a dish I would just eat it and let it be, but this dish was inedible! My boyfriend's dish came out, same salty taste but more mild compared to my dish. We decided to ask to take the Kung Pao Shrimp off our bill, which the waitress graciously allowed and even offered to remake the food, we declined only because we didn't know how it would taste and we would rather not spend $30 on two meals that make us unhappy. We ate most of the Cilantro Beef, with the white rice that had probably been sitting for a while based on the consistency and texture. The best thing I had in that restaurant was the Coke my boyfriend ordered. Pretty disappointed with the restaurant, part my fault for not doing more research for what they had and looking at the reviews. Will never go back unfortunately.

Ordered vegetarian dumplings for take out but ended up getting dumplings with meat. The person handed me the ordered confirmed with me that I ordered vegetarian.

Rice and Dumplings - located at the corner of E. Pershing and N. Jefferson. This is a small, new, quaint restaurant located near downtown. My husband and I ordered Clay Pot chicken (takes 15-20 minutes as each order of rice is cooked fresh!) and pan fried pork, corn, and carrot dumplings. First thing we noticed is their tapestries on the ceiling match the silverware cloths! Included with the silverware is steel chopsticks instead of disposables. The food was awesome! The chicken and mushrooms were both tender with a nice meaty bite. The dumplings were a large portion with plenty of yummy fillings! The star, though, was rice in the clay pot. It was cooked in such a way that the inside was pillowy, and the outside was nice and crisp. We didn't order it but it looks like their pineapple fried rice is served IN a pineapple! I almost forgot - they gave us these cute bottles for no reason. We WILL be back soon!

Food was amazing. I've had three different dishes and loved every one of them. Can't wait to try more.

We enjoyed the dumpling as a hors d'oeuvres. The four of us all got something different and each dish was terrible.

The clay pot rice was to die for, it was cooked perfectly and the little crispy bits are the best!

There seems to be a trend of new Asian fusion restaurants that have opened recently, this is one of…read morethe better ones in my opinion. Now I'm not a giant fan of the plain old Chinese restaurants that seem to be on every other block here in Springfield, but picky me really likes Asian fusion restaurants. Its clean, friendly, and fast service here, with a large menu. They offer anything from sushi, shrimp with lobster sauce, sweet and sour chicken, and just about any other of your favorite Asian dish's. The lunch special is very well priced and includes the entree, your choice of 2 crab rangoon's, egg role, or soup as an added side to the meal. It's a really nice portion of food, it all comes un-assembled so you decide how much sauce to add, which is a great touch. Also, like how they bread the chicken, it's more of a wet batter to start and fry's up nice and puffy so to say. One cool thing about the decor is the gold cat on the counter that is perpetually waving hello, really want to know where I can get one of those, lol. Give it a try for lunch, really can't beat that special, and they can be pretty busy at times, which means to me I'm not the only one who knows good food in this town.

The man was hard to understand, could not answer my questions about tofu or their seafood and the woman on the phone loudly with "business". While going through a pretty extensive menu, noticed grubhub there a few times but zero customers at 1pm. As avoiding meat I went with the seafood dinner with lobster $21 w tax. Asked for water was given a tiny styrofoam cup? I saw no glasses. My meal came out with a scoop of rice on styrofoam plate, and they dish itself is served in a black carry out?? I had said dine in. No plates or silverware. The rice cold. The dish had 4 good pieces of shrimp but sadly no flavor. The scallops tiny and filled with grit. The lobster seemed fresh, of course smallish but he overcooked it, the only thing that looked like I might get lucky with. They appear to possibly be going out of business, so maybe why the quality was a 1. When I got up to leave she finally spoke and asked how was it and I told her the scallops filed with grit (low quality) the lobster overcooked and tough. She just smiled and went on. They have combos for $9.99 and the store next to, said that was all they would eat, wish I would have known as would have save myself ten dollars and actually had a decent lunch perhaps. Next time will eat at the cafeteria, where if something spoiled can get replaced.
