This place had amazing food. We tried the pork and cabbage, pork and Chinese chives, and the pork, corn, and carrots (soup) dumplings, and the clay pot rice and spare ribs (pork btw) and everything was amazing. Their sauce is homemade and really good. Sort of a BBQ meats asian cuisine taste and smell but very seedy. Still really good. The soy sauce is potentially homemade as well. Really good but slightly salty. Would definitely recommend. I would return in the future. read more

Me and my boyfriend finally had time and money to go out and enjoy ourselves, so we decided on a Chinese cuisine restaurant, we stumbled upon "Rice & Dumpling," we were pretty excited and were expecting a crowd. As we walked in we saw the employees sitting down, and then the server rushed towards us with greetings and navigating us to a booth. She was cute and sweet, no attitude. As we were sitting down I noticed the interior decoration, absolutely lovely and interesting way to design a space. The seating was clean, some booths had pillows, the tables were sturdy, I could say some more positives about the seating, but then I noticed how quiet the restaurant is, granted we were the only ones there for 20 minutes until two others walked in. There was no quiet music playing, which sure it's not necessary, but we felt like whispering the whole time. FOOD - I ordered the stir fry Kung Pao Shrimp, ordered it before at other restaurants and they never disappointed me, and my boyfriend ordered the stir fry Cilantro Beef. I got my food first, the food was sitting in a half-inch of oil. I took a bite and had to go straight for a sip of water, it was so salty, tasted almost as if somebody poured a whole thing of salt into the dish and it had a sort of spice that wasn't like any Chinese food I've eaten before. Some of the carrots were also undercooked, with a raw core. I'm never picky with my food and I've never sent a dish back, typically if I don't like a dish I would just eat it and let it be, but this dish was inedible! My boyfriend's dish came out, same salty taste but more mild compared to my dish. We decided to ask to take the Kung Pao Shrimp off our bill, which the waitress graciously allowed and even offered to remake the food, we declined only because we didn't know how it would taste and we would rather not spend $30 on two meals that make us unhappy. We ate most of the Cilantro Beef, with the white rice that had probably been sitting for a while based on the consistency and texture. The best thing I had in that restaurant was the Coke my boyfriend ordered. Pretty disappointed with the restaurant, part my fault for not doing more research for what they had and looking at the reviews. Will never go back unfortunately. read more

I ordered something off the menu that was called "Dry chicken" from the stir fry section. It was not literally dry, as it came soaked in a very flavorful sauce or gravy. There were large broccoli florets, onions, peppers, etc. It felt very authentic, with uncommon spices including what looked like star anise, thick-sliced ginger root, possibly a bay leaf, and something else I couldn't name, so you do have to be mindful about what you're eating. But I feel that added to the experience. I couldn't name the cut of chicken, but it was bone-in (unrecognizable of which bone) but it was very flavorful. My meal also came with a large bowl of steamed rice, which I poured the excess sauce into after i finished the rest. I had some of their pork and celery dumplings as well, dipped in something like soy sauce, and some chili crisp. I've ordered a few times, and they always serve generous portions, meaning I usually get two or more meals out of one order. That alone does a lot to lower the perceived cost of the meal. Lovely little restaurant in downtown Springfield, a friend and I shared the pork & cabbage, pork & zucchini, and pork & chives dumplings, and we each got a clay pot friend rice (egg & beef and spare ribs). The dumplings were meh, not a lot of flavor and the dipping sauce had way too much vinegar. The clay pot rice was to die for, it was cooked perfectly and the little crispy bits are the best! I would go back for the rice but won't be ordering dumplings again. Also, Thursday nights all clay pot friend rice is 9.99 so it's a great night to give that a try! read more

We had a party of 10. We were quickly seated. Hostess was VERY hospitable. The entire restaurant was very clean. The tables were sturdy. The seats were comfortable! The decor was beautiful! I am not sure why all the negative reviews about the food. Food was delicious! The only comment we had was that a few dishes were a little heavy with the rice wine vinegar. It certainly didn't make the dish inedible. It just wasn't what we were expecting. Not a big deal. I personally had the clay pot mushroom & velvet chicken bowl. It was amazing! I read several comments about people complaining about no eggrolls and such. If you want eggrolls, you can find a place like that on every corner of Springfield. This place offers something different. And it is delicious! I truthfully do not understand why this place was not packed tonight. Food was great! Service was fantastic! We will definitely be back! The only thing I'm upset about is that I did not take any pictures to post. read more

Rice and Dumplings - located at the corner of E. Pershing and N. Jefferson. This is a small, new, quaint restaurant located near downtown. My husband and I ordered Clay Pot chicken (takes 15-20 minutes as each order of rice is cooked fresh!) and pan fried pork, corn, and carrot dumplings. First thing we noticed is their tapestries on the ceiling match the silverware cloths! Included with the silverware is steel chopsticks instead of disposables. The food was awesome! The chicken and mushrooms were both tender with a nice meaty bite. The dumplings were a large portion with plenty of yummy fillings! The star, though, was rice in the clay pot. It was cooked in such a way that the inside was pillowy, and the outside was nice and crisp. We didn't order it but it looks like their pineapple fried rice is served IN a pineapple! I almost forgot - they gave us these cute bottles for no reason. We WILL be back soon! read more

I find this little gem so much different and better than the typical Springfield offering. The dumplings are delicious, tender and stuffed with fillings. The fried rice was also tasty and different than most I've had in town. The star of the show was the clay pot rice... veggies and meat cooked in a clay pot over rice. As the toppings cook, the juices run down into the rice both flavoring and cooking. The toppings come out tender and the rice crispy on the edges but amazingly well flavored. The best rice in Springfield! The service was also excellent! read more

I'm thinking Chinese food, and in the mood for some soup and egg rolls...neither of which was on the menu. Ended up having the special fried rice. It was served nice and hot, plenty of chicken, shrimp etc..but seemed to be overloaded with what I'm guessing was sesame oil. Overall, just too greasy for fried rice. Place just had a weird vibe. A Chinese place with no egg rolls or soup on the menu? Come on man, do better. Not going back. read more

Came here for the first time and it was delicious. Got pork dumplings (in a soup) and cumin beef. Going back today and will tell as many people as I can. It's a great place and awesome service. read more
