We have wanted to try The Riksha for a while but they have limited hours. We finally found ourselves in the area on a weekday afternoon and decided to try it out. The service was quick and friendly. The seating area was small but clean and there were plenty of open tables. The food came out quick and was really good! The prices were great, really good value here. read more

Still love the food here even after 25+ years but the sauce for the general chicken seems to have changed slightly. It used to be a bit more sour (almost like a slight vinegar taste) which I loved but today it seems more sweet almost like sesame chicken. It was still tasty but miss the previous version that was a staple in my life while living in Springfield for many, many years before leaving. Last time I was here was 2021 and they were still serving the original version. Service was 5* as it's always been. read more

Super nice people running the place. The lady at the cash register was very funny with my young son. You can tell they enjoy what they do and pull for each other. Realized I hate cashew chicken though. It was super well cooked, still moist and crispy, like chic-fil-a on that perfect day. I just hated the sauce, but that's totally on me for ordering it. My family stopped here for lunch on our way home from Memphis. The food was delicious! We ordered chicken fried rice, chicken and broccoli, and cashew chicken to share. The chicken fried rice is some of the best I have ever had. The cashew chicken was so delicious we ordered two more! The crab rangoons, fried dumplings, and egg rolls were also great. This Asian food restaurant has been a wonderful option for enjoying delicious food since around 1993. The quaint atmosphere and spare furnishings add to its appeal. I hadn't dined here for probably 15 years and on a whim invited my friend to eat here yesterday. What a pleasant surprise! Not only did I indulge in the out of this worldly deliciousness of their General chicken wings, but my friend scarfed down their pork chow mein, which he pronounced to be scrumptious. We were treated to excellent service by the proprietors, Scott and Tommy, who truthfully bragged about both the large size of their wings in comparison to their competitors and the reason their wings are superior: marinating to seal in their delectable spices. These two guys took over the ownership of the restaurant from their aunt and uncle after these relatives had run a successful business at this location for 27 years, and I venture that as long as they keep doing what they are doing, they will provide Springfield with a great place to eat for at least 27 more years! read more

I love this place. It is only a 5 min walk from my loft, so that's a plus. It's not fancy, but it's cozy. I usually get the daily cashew or sweet n sour special. It includes 2 wantons and an egg-roll. Portions are large, food is tasty, and the price is great! What more could you ask for? Also, the review from Dan C comments "Chinese restaurants that charge you extra for all white meat (why would you serve anything else?!)" I always get the dark meat. Their fried rice is mainly rice and onion and would be better if they added more seasonings and vegetables. Recommend the Mandarin Combination and Kung Pow Chicken. I'm sure the Riksha's staying power can be attributed to their incredibly low prices, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. I'm always suspicious of Chinese restaurants that charge you extra for all white meat (why would you serve anything else?!). The menu features typical Chinese fare, but I stuck with Cashew Chicken -- the staple by which any Springfield Chinese restaurant should be measured. Not good. The chicken was grisly, the rice was half steamed, half fried, and the egg roll was cold and had a pronounced fishy taste. If you're looking for Chinese food downtown, this is unfortunately your only choice, so I'd suggest driving a little further to Korea House, or even further to Little Saigon (the best Chinese food in Springfield). Also, be warned, they do not accept credit cards, so make sure you have cash on you. read more

I'll say it flat out: this is a top three on my list of favorite cashew chicken dishes in the area and sits solidly at the top of my list for general chicken. I used to work at a place relatively close to The Riksha, and a coworker and I got in the habit of going there. As a result, I ate here once a week for four years, and not only did I never get tired of it, but I still go back any time I'm close to the area. The cashew sauce is light, perfectly complements the breading on the chicken, and is great for dipping side items. The general chicken is not sweet at all, and since the cook adds the peppers by hand, you can specify anywhere from mild to insanely spicy. There are other items on the menu, but I don't see why anyone would ever order them when these two dishes are so good. This is one of the places I recommend to friends or out of towners, and the first thing I say is "I swear you won't get sick." The decor hasn't been updated in a long time, the chairs and tables are as basic as you can get, and the building is showing its age. But like I said: I've literally eaten here hundreds of times without issue, and for what it's worth, nobody who followed my recommendation has reported back with any either. I'm sure the fact that you can get a complete lunch for less than $4 contributes to the feel of the place. The same cook has been in the back every time I've been there, and it seems to be a family rite of passage to run the cash register for a few months or years since it's a bit of a revolving door. The quality of service is dependent on who is behind the register and how busy it is, but it is normally on the friendly side and has never crossed into actual rudeness for me. It's just one of those small, family-owned hole in the wall joints. I've established that I love the food, but as noted by other reviewers, there are some annoyance which keep me from being able to give The Riksha five stars: - White meat costs extra. - Soda refills cost a quarter (yes, you read that right). - Limited seating means you might not have a place to sit if the lunch rush is heavy. - Payment is cash-only. I will continue to frequent The Riksha as often as possible and recommend it as one of the shining examples of Americanized Chinese food in Springfield. Have been going here for over 20 years. The new owner is a nephew of Savon and although he claims the recipes are the same, the cashew chicken isn't even close. The chicken is no longer crispy and I find it too salty. The sauce is different: it no longer has that mild sweet taste. The menu has been drastically reduced. The prices have gone up. You used to get won tons and an egg roll with their cashew chicken daily special. No more. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. It's too bad. This had been our favorite Asian restaurant. read more

I'm in love with this restaurant! It's been a while since I've gone but it's definitely authentic Chinese! They get their Chinese peppers directly from Taiwan. I would recommend everything on the menu but my favorites are the Kung pao chicken and the Moo goo gai pan. Especially the Moo goo. Dining in gives you the feeling of a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco or New York City. It's not fancy but that's why it's charming! It reminds me of my grandma too. I love the General (Tso's) chicken. On a good day, the sauce will make my head sweat. The portions are very large, and the price is quite low. Good food/large portion/good prices/good service=5 stars. The couple who own and operate the restaurant are clean freaks, and very knowlegable about city health department regulations, and good kitchen hygiene practices in general. This was the first Chinese restaurant I experienced in Springfield when we moved here in 1997, and it remains a staple. The General Chicken is very spicy and flavorful -- my favorite in town -- and like Stewie G., I get the dark meat. Tender and tasty. Another plus: They don't precook anything. The Crab Rangoon and egg rolls are cooked up fresh when you order them, making them nice, hot and crisp. I also love the couple who run the place. They are friendly and work very hard to please. Food was only OK and I have a special needs diet with a medical card and they would not allow substitution of noodles instead of rice even though I was willing to pay extra. I won't be back k Diamond Head is better and does allow substitutions. The veggies class early are frozen I know the egg rolls are she told me so.
