Sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, egg roll, and rangoon.
Jason E.

I was excited to try this place out. After reading some decent reviews and seeing the building itself, it was enticing. Entering the building was a different story. The restaurant appears to be a former Popeyes Chicken. The decor is plain and uninviting. There is quite a bit of visible wear on the walls with paint chipping and falling in various place. Nothing character about it, just unkempt. Approaching the counter helped me overlook this as I was greeted with enthusiasm! Absolutely great service. The lady made me feel very comfortable and even helped me understand the menu. Unfortunately, receiving my order set me up for a deflating experience. For $5.99 I received sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, an egg roll, and a crab rangoon. It also came with a drink. Considering the typical large portions received for Chinese takeout, I was rather surprised at how small this portion was, although that is subjective. The meal itself was horrendous. The chicken was very dry and greasy and covered in what seemed to come from a cheap can of sugared syrup with pineapples thrown in and topped with a couple of those ridged carrots you find in a bag of frozen California mix. Not good. Sadly, the rice was so very dry as well. Must I speak of the egg roll? I suppose I must. Not the typical fat roll full of cabbage you might receive elsewhere. This poor skinny thing was so greasy I could not finish it. It looked over cooked. The inside was incredibly mushy as well. I could not decipher what it contained. It looked brown with orange bits throughout. The one saving grace would be the rangoon. Nothing special about it other than it being edible. I am disappointed at this experience. The outside seems inviting and the service is great. Unfortunately, for me, that is not enough to redeem the poor meal experience. Try at your own risk.

a meal of chicken and rice

I had high expectations for the cashew chicken since it was voted the best in Springfield in 2013. The portion size was ridiculously small for $6. EVERY other Chinese place in town gives you twice as much food, some places even give twice as much food for less than $6! The sauce was okay...ish for someone that's never had really good Springfield style cashew chicken. The rice was edible.... and that's being generous. The rice was ridiculously dark in color like they'd doused it all in soy sauce. It tasted as such too. The ONLY redeeming factor is that the white meat chicken was actually of good quality. It's hard to find Chinese places around here that have really great quality white meat chicken. Don't waste your money or time. It's 2015..... They really need to go back and vote again for best cashew chicken in Springfield. Because this CLEARLY is not it!

My new Best Cashew Chicken in town! Thought I'd tried them all. High quality ingredients and presentation won me over.

I love their Shrimp Fried Rice...my favorite in Springfield. Luckily they are close to work, so I can stop in for lunch from time to time.

Not impressed. Too expensive. Not a lot of food for your money and not good quality.

Updating my review from last year: This review below was meant for the location at 1730 E Republic…read moreRd Ste A Springfield, MO 65804. My bad, I reviewed the wrong one, but I'm sure this location is good too! Here's my review from last year on the other location: I could tell by looking at the photos and reviews on Yelp that this place was going to be wonderful. Thankfully, when we finally gave it a shot, we were not disappointed. Talk about made fresh. Everything was so delicious and freshly prepared. Flavors were spot on. The service was fantastic. They always made sure that our drinks were filled and we had everything that we needed. My absolute favorite dish was the fried green beans with minced pork. Get it with extra minced pork and you'll love it. The steamed dumplings and pancake appetizer are also really good. Highly recommend! They also have clean restrooms with an extra large sink outside the restroom area so you can quickly wash your hands if you don't actually need to use the restroom. Pretty cool. We can't wait to go back for more!

Interestingly enough, I gave this place a shot because it was on Yelp's "Top 100" list for Chinese…read morefood in the US.... In Springfield of all places??? I was at once both intrigued and more than a little doubtful. However, I've now been here half a dozen times (every time I visit Springfield) and I can say that most of what I've had has been extremely authentic, especially the spicy stuff! Having lived in LA and also in Asia, I'm pretty strict about what I am willing to call authentic. Corner 21 isn't perfect and a few of the dishes fell flat, but you won't find anything better in town. I'm giving it full marks for being such a pleasant surprise in a seriously unexpected place. edit: Almost forgot to mention that the portions are quite big. Portion sizes were definitely more Springfield size than big city sizes! Recommend - Szechuan Spicy Chicken, Dry Fried Green Beans, Traditional Sweet and Sour Pork, Szechuan Boiling Fish Don't recommend - Yang Zhou Fried Rice (It tasted fine, but it's supposed to use bbq and not spam)
