This small 3 person family Chinese take-out is OUTSTANDING! They're all wonderfully kind family serving up exceptionally superb Chinese food. Mei, the matriarch is a lovely human. My elderly father-in-law orders food at least 2x weekly if not more. We've NEVER had any problems with this great establishment. Mei takes any special orders with a big beautiful smile I'm grateful for her. read more

Service was fast. Ingredients were very different from conventional recipes. Food was mediocre, overcooked in general and protein was sparse. In all the many times I've ordered Mongolian Beef in many different cities and states, I have never had it prepared with overcooked mushrooms, carrots, snow peas, a ton of cabbage and hardly any beef but no green onions. Interestingly, the restaurant is located in the same building adjacent to a gas convenience store. Wish it was better. read more

So we are in town for a few days on vacation. Wanted some Chinese/Asian food. Saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to give Happy China a try. Look....don't let the fact that this place is in the end of a gas station scare you away. The service was awesome. The lady that must own the place is incredible. The food was fantastic. The servings very large. Please give it a try!!! read more

I had been wanting to try this place for their Singapore noodles (Mei Fun). They were delicious. We got it with shrimp, beef and chicken and the seasoning was spot on. My daughter and I shared and still came home with leftovers. The lady that took our order was super helpful and patient while my daughter quizzed her on the various dishes in the menu. read more

Food iss always fresh and tastes amazing! My go to, every time! And the family is always so friendly and remember me when I come in.

I ordered a variety of items. The Egg Roll, the steamed Dumplings and the Spring Egg Rolls all were satisfactory. The Egg Drop and Hot and Sour soup were rather bland. The same with the Beef Lo Mein noodles and the General Tso's Chicken both bland and seemed over cooked. I probably will try elsewhere in the future for Chinese food. read more

This was marginal food although it was mostly clean upfront. Bathroom was not. Not traditional Springfield Cashew Chicken and I hate plastic forks, especially when fried chicken is hard. Served in plastic "to go" boxes at the table. When I pulled up to the store, it's located in half a gas station. Should have followed my intuition and left. Crab rangoon was okay. read more

This Chinese cuisine is magical. The whimsical environment and mysticality of this restaurant is truly beautiful. Don't get me started on the Mongolian beef, the tangy tender meat melting in my mouth was the best part of this experience. And as the cherry on top. I had wonderful service with my food arriving immediately. If I had to recommend one place in Springfield mo... it would be happy China. read more

They were busy, but no one should wait 1 1/2 hours for any meal. From online order to pick-up it was an hour and a half when the website said 30 minutes. One person waiting said it had been 2 hours for him and he finally left, he hadn't paid yet. I had, so leaving wasn't an option. Their batter for the chicken is tempura, which had I realized that, would never had ordered. Sweet and sour sauce wasn't very good, however the sesame chicken was very good. Egg rolls - meh. Those are the only food items we had. read more

Really was excited to eat here. Food had an old taste. Cashew chicken had zero flavor.

Well this was a true disappointment. All the reviews were great. However, when we arrived it was not what we expected. The food was just alright. Nothing g special and not even all that hot when it arrived. Plastic utensils and it is attached to a gas station. Definitely will not be back. read more

ZERO pork in the Pork Fried Rice - I mean NONE!! When I called about this, I was told that because I ordered a combo plate featuring pork (#22 B.B.Q Sliced Pork) less pork was in the side, & that when an order of Pork Fried Rice is on its own, there is MUCH pork included. I asked how "less" meant NONE, & added that the reason I ordered the combo was PRECISELY BECAUSE there is NOT much meat in the regular order of PFR in my experience there. The baldfaced LYING on top of the meat cheating is OUTRAGEOUS & unacceptable. There was no offer of remedy or attempt to keep a customer. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more

Let's deal with the proverbial elephant: Happy China is attached to a gas station. If the phrase "hole-in-the-wall" is terrifying to you, pass on by, but if not, read on. PROS Happy China does one thing and does it well: fast and fresh Americanized Chinese food. I got my standard "first order" at a new-to-me Chinese joint: General's Chicken as a lunch combo with crab rangoon. The chicken was crispy and well-sauced, with a good balance of spice that wasn't overpowering. No soggy, overly-breadded nuggets here! The side of fried rice wasn't anything amazing, but it served its role to soak up some extra sauce. The crab rangoons were perfectly crispy with a generous helping of sweet, cheesy filling. The lunch special came with two large rangoons. The price for the lunch special plus a fountain drink came to right at $10 with tip, a good price for a very filling lunch. The service was fast and friendly. CONS If you are looking for someplace classy, this isn't it. There are maybe half-a-dozen tables and booths in what seems to be a "takeaway first" kind of joint. The decor is basic and clean, but come on, it's attached to a gas station! The lunch special came in a plastic takeaway bowl with plastic utensils, and there was an abundance of styrofoam, so a possible improvement would be more eco-friendly container options. SUMMARY If you are looking for a tasty, filling, well-executed version of standard Americanized Chinese food, then Happy China fits the bill wonderfully, as long as you don't mind parking at a gas station to get it. read more

I have now eaten here three times and I have to say it's my favorite (and as far as I am concerned only) place to get Chinese food in Springfield. Don't let the exterior fool you, and get it to go because the portions are huge and you will definitely want to save your leftovers. The flavoring is spectacular and consistent, because they mix the sauces in while cooking the food as opposed to just pouring it on top of the dishes. I am so happy to have found this gem of a restaurant. read more

The food was really well prepared and took no time, I had the Veggie Mei Fun and the portions were big, it took my fat ass 3 days to finish it all. My partner didn't have a similar experience, she got the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, and while she liked it, it wasn't her favorite, and it made her a little sick the next day. The crab ragoons, which for my partner and I, we are very picky about. But these one, phenomenal, delicious, 10/10, will be returning solely for that. We prefer sweet over savory crabby ragoons, so if you prefer savory, and you can taste the crab, this isn't the ragoon for you. But for me, it was bomb as hell!! read more

Excellent food, Great prices, Good service. The ambiance is varry nice. Food wad better than expected.

Went to school in Springfield 20 years ago and eight Chinese food. My entire five years I was there. I've been consistently going back to Springfield since then and have Chinese food about every time I come back. I can honestly say that this place is the worst Chinese food I've ever encountered in the entire area. My wife ordered Springfield style cashew chicken and I ordered sweet-and-sour. The chicken was so deep-fried that it came out and it was like rubber. I asked the lady if the chicken was fresh and she said yes we just got it out of this fryer and pointed at the back kitchen. I just shook my head, decided to throw our food straight to the trash. I will never go back here. read more

Ordered food to go so we didn't experience the service/atmosphere. Our delivery driver was great! We only wish the food was. Food looks amazing, but we paid $50 for bland food (not including what we tipped our driver). The freezer food from Walmart tastes better. Very dissatisfied and disappointed with our experience here. The sweet and sour pork didn't have any sauce- maybe this is how it normally comes but the menu didn't make that very clear. The fried rice was mush and flavorless. The egg roll was putrid, the chicken flavorless, and the crab Rangoon had no crab and tasted like pure sugar. Hot and sour soup wasn't bad, but for the price paid for the food received- we definitely do not recommend and will not return! read more

I'm always down looking for new places to try. I heard about this place for awhile. Its like a hidden gem that's old but new. Located next to the Eagle Stop, I didnt think to ever stop in and try. Went here for lunch and they have alot of same options like china king Or asian hut. The staff were really nice and sweet. I ordered the fried dumplings, pork lo mien lunch and chicken hunan lunch. All the food came out so hot and looks good. I tried the hot and sour soup (all time fav) and let me tell u, the best i ever had in springfield! The fried dumplings were Hot and Crispy, sooooo good!!! Next was the lomien, it is a canton noodle that is round and thick with alott of flavor and not soggy and come with fried rice as a combo. Then the Hunan chicken was soft and tenders with mix veggies and come with fried rice. It was very good and tasteful. You can taste the sauces that are well mix and marinated. I like this place better than China King! Their food actually have a flavors, not as bland as China King stirfry sauces. A new place for a quick chinese fast food fix!! Highly recommended. read more

The negative reviews of this place are pretty funny. I noticed most of these people aren't from Springfield and clearly don't know what good Chinese food tastes like. They must be used to whatever passes for Chinese food where they live. Now that I've got that off my chest. Happy China is an amazing Chinese restaurant. The Hot Pepper Chicken is absolutely amazing, and their fried rice is really good as well. The Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon are also some of the best I've ever had. My wife and I have enjoyed everything we've ever had from Happy China, the food has always been hot, and the staff has always been friendly. I highly recommend this place. read more

I enjoyed my first visit to Happy China. I thought the prices were fair, the quality was decent, and the portion sizes were great. I tried the Hot Pepper Chicken (~$8), and it came with a heaping of chicken, vegetables, and choice of fried/white rice (see photo in case you're curious because this one is apparently a crowd favorite). One of the reviews below stated it well, "anyone who's on a budget and nursing a late night craving for Chinese can probably scratch their itch here... but more discerning diners will probably want to look elsewhere." I want to reiterate that the restaurant shares a building with a gas station, so that was a big turn off to folks I had dinner with. They immediately wanted to leave due to the reputation of gas station joints, but I'm glad we at least stayed to give the small mom/pop a try. Their argument was that they just wouldn't feel comfortable bring clients/other team members into a small diner-esque room that seats 20 or so guests, and the food wasn't significantly better than other takeout options we've had in Springfield. read more

No way this place has 4.5 stars. If this is almost 5 star Chinese food then I can't imagine what anything less is. Chicken isn't chicken, it's just soft breading that's all melded together into a whole different entity. The rice is bland and the noodles taste like cardboard. Paid $30 for two meals only to get two upset stomachs. Please for the love of god, go and get good Chinese food somewhere else. Left one star because the employees are very friendly -- no complains about service. read more

The only place I'll eat Chinese food in Springfield!! Love egg foo young and the Springfield chicken

The food here is really good! It's attached to a gas station which is a little sketchy and I got catcalled by two dudes when I walked in to get my food. But if you're not getting catcalled, a little bit scared, and getting your order taken by a 6-10 year old kid when you're getting Chinese food then you're not doing it right. read more

Since they opened HC is our favorite oriental restaurant. Found this on Yelp as I was passing through and wanted something quick but not the standard fast food. Of course Springfield is known for cashew chicken, but that is not my dish. I am a noodle dish guy so I like to try various mei fun or lo mein. Happy China is basically connected to a gas station, but it has its own entrance and is fairly typical for a fast casual Chinese place. It has an expansive menu with plenty of options and lunch specials. I ordered the pork mei fun, which is a thin rice noodle stir fried with roast pork and veggies. It came out quickly on a real plate (not paper or styrofoam) and was a generous portion. Service was quick and friendly. They have fountain soda or bottled sodas and water if you prefer. The mei fun was good - maybe a touch more soy sauce in it than I would prefer, but overall good. read more

No comments as to either the ambiance or service as we placed a large take-out order. As far as that goes, HC has a speedy, effective online ordering site: The menu which allows you to make custom changes to your order such as dish ingredient deletions & spiciness level; order verifications via email with estimated pick-up time to the minute; and a "pay at the restaurant" feature so that we don't have to submit credit card info. Pretty seamless. Delivery is also available. As far as the food, HC is the typical good value in terms of the price/quantity/quality genre. The menu is extensive with many options & variations. Many veggie & vegan options. We started out sampling appetizers such as the Shrimp Rolls, Spring Rolls & an order of Crab Rangoon. All were about "decently average". We like our Rangoon with a lighter shell & not as heavily fried. The filling was ample though. My wife has difficulty finding Moshu Pork in town but they also offer this with a variety of meats. She found it good with light yet sturdy wrappers for the mixture. I had the Hunan Chicken with Black Bean sauce, extra hot which wasn't a scorcher but enjoyable. My sister had the Szechuan Chicken, also extra hot, which she thoroughly enjoyed. My granddaughter had the Chicken Lo Mein with no vegetables. She liked it but found the noodles a tad dry (might be due to opting out of the veggies). None of us could finish our entrée's due to their generous helpings. Is there better Chinese cuisine in town? Certainly. Is there worse? Most decidedly. Again, it's about your average Chinese fast-food fare, slightly more flavorful & larger portions. You want to get your "money's worth"? This is it. You want a "delightful experience"? Seek onward... read more

I love this place when using doordash to order in chinese. it's great the food is always hot, However now after looking at other places i am starting to wonder on the prices. but I do love the quality and some things they can only do justice. but sometimes I gotta branch out and try something new. but there will always be a place in my heart for this place, and yes. the location in my profile is incorrect at present. I moved a few years ago and never updated my yelp. oops. bad girl me. but yes, I highly recommend this spot. also, chinese that us americans eat is not authentic. This isn't health food, but I was in town after a very long time and craved "Springfield" style Chinese food...trust me, Springfield's Chinese food is different than "normal" Chinese food. Anyway. The crab rangoon did not disappoint. The first bite, with that suspiciously red-orange sauce, was down right heaven. I also ordered sweet and sour tofu. It's a HUGE portion. Huge. Probably better to share between 2-3 people, imo. When I'm next in town, I'll be back. read more
