Great little hole in the wall. This isn't a big sit down restaurant so don't expect to dine. But the food is good. Very consistent. Prices are reasonable, portions are large, but I found the food to be underwhelming. While on a road-trip pit stop in Springfield, my dad and I picked up some New China takeout for dinner. There isn't a whole lot to say about the experience. They were only offering take-out, no sit down dining, but the service was friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. The food itself, sadly, was not as good as I had hoped. I ordered orange chicken with chow mein. The chow mein was a bit rubbery and the orange chicken was over-breaded and over-sauced. I ended up only eating half of my meal, partly because I didn't find it all that good and partly because there was so much food. Stopped here on way through to Texas. Was empty when we walked in and ordered but has been non stop people since. Food was good. Crab Rangoon are very full which is rare at Chinese restaurants. Meh. I'm just not a fan of "Americanized-Chinese." Everything is overly sweet, covered in gloppy sauce, and lacks the pizzazz of authentic Chinese. But, alas, my parents enjoy this type of Chinese food, and their opinion of it would be 4 or 5 stars. I ended up tagging along with them after they insisted on going. After waiting an obscene amount of time for our food to come out, I'll admit that I did enjoy the General Tso's chicken and the crabrangoons. However, very little else caught my attention, even though my parents cajoled me into trying a little bit of everything they ordered. There are definitely better places for Chinese, but if you're wanting typical American Chinese fast food, it's probably not a bad option. read more

The Singapore Mei fun at New China is a little spicy, a little dry like I like it, noodles are amazing and the portion is absurdLu large. In addition, if you are looking for hot oil and red chilies the hot chili oil sauce at New China is among the best in Springfield - if not the best. There is a large selection of various meals to choose from. Rice? Totally uncertain of what and how much..and you can add to your meal for extra $$. You'd think this part would be straight forward. Nope! And my rice came 19 mins into my meal, which was half gone as the teammates I was with were about done their meals. I like another review, because the put it better than I can - service is non emotional. They could not care less if you are there, except you seemingly interrupted their sleep, in wanting to place your order. The person rushing plates to the table seemed to care, but it was at best drop and run. You are not a customer, the customer is not always right, take it or not, and hurry up and leave. I think the cashier and a few others have worked there too long . But food was filling, good portion, and hot...the only real reason to go back. Maybe. Really good for take out Chinese. The steamed dumpings and chicken teriyaki are amazing. try the dragon and phoenix for entree or the beef lo-mein. It's really good. The space is small 20-30 seats. Decently food but definitely not worth the $1019.39 they charged my card. I signed the receipt for 16.03, I guess thought they needed a $1000.00 tip. This caused both my accounts to be locked since it overdrew one account by hundreds of dollars. Also they could have called and give me some notice since I give them my number with my order but but I found out when my card declined for a $3 coffee. This is a good old fashioned New York style Chinese take out place. In a place like Springfield MO were "Chinese" food has it's own subculture, New China is a refreshing and familiar taste for a former "Coasty". I recommend General Tso's chicken, Sweet and Sour Shrimp and the dumplings. read more

Stopped by here for a late lunch today and was sorely disappointed. I took a chance after reading the reviews and it didn't pan out. After placing a to-go order for a General Chicken combo, I was told it would be ready in 10 minutes so I was hopeful it would be fresh. I walked next door to GameStop and came back in less than 10 minutes and grabbed my food. I drove straight home (less than 10 minutes) and dug in. Ordered hot tea, steamed & fried dumplings, crab Rangoon, and the moo shu pork (one of my all time favorites!) With that being said.....for the hot tea we were given one generic black tea bag and told to get hot water out of the water machine in a styrofoam cup. The dumplings were so doughy they were unappetizing and tasted bad. The crab Rangoon was excessively greasy and sweet...yes, oddly enough they were sweet. The Moo Shu pork was mediocre at best and served without plum sauce. When I asked the young lady working at the counter if we could get some plum sauce she had no idea what I was talking about. A few minutes later and older gentleman brought out a small container of it. With the way it tasted, I was better off without it. Like I said in the beginning, I really wanted to like this place. Iv been searching Springfield for the best chinesse take out. Seems I've found it. The general tso's is great, the orange chicken is to die for. The fried rice is done just right. The sweat and sour chicken is great as well. Staff is friendly, albiet they are difficult to communicate with through there limited understanding of english, but iv always seen that as a good sign, and in this case it is. I've eaten here dozens of times and 90% of the time it's excellent. I have however noticed in the last few visits that the quality of their meat seems to have decreased. It used to be almost all white meat which is great now there's a lot of dark meat and just breaded idk what... they have good egg rolls but I wish they would cut the Cabbage a little finer you know what I mean ever try to eat an egg roll and half of it comes out of the skin in your mouth? This may seem kind of petty but I'm kind of put off by their water machine that they provide for customers to get their water with it drips out so slow you could takes 5 minutes to get a glass of water I think they could do better. All in all it's a pretty dang good place to eat and it's cheap especially for the lunch special and I'm sure I'll go back again but it seems like their quality has suffered lately. read more

FAVORITE Chinese in Springfield. Flavors are great and menu is extensive. Crab rangoons are greasy, creamy, and just sinfully delicious. Pork fried rice is awesome and their dumplings are big and juicy and to die for. Their lunch specials are ridiculous cheap and ridiculously good. Food gets 5 stars.. 1 star deduction for staff. They can be very hard to understand and forget about asking details.. communication can be very difficult and twice now I have received something different from what I ordered due to language barriers. Stumbled across New China after exiting highway 44 and looking for something the whole family could eat. 3 of the 4 of us are vegetarian, including one gluten free person. According to the counter clerk all of the dishes on the vegetable portion of the menu are vegetarian. The mushu vegetable dish was particularly good, although note that it does have egg in it. Spring rolls are also veg. No detectable meat in any of the items we ordered. Sauce was a little on the heavy/oily side, but still tasty. Kids liked their dish of tofu and vegetables. This place has the best crab Rangoon in town hands down. They are Amazing. I always get the hot and spicy chicken and fried rice as a meal. I have only tried a couple of things on the menu but everything I have had is great. The reason for the 4/5 stars is the staff are not very friendly and they don't have a drive through.
