Took my car in to have belt tensioner and belt replaced. It was making rattling noise. Paid $200 for tensioner and $40 for belt. $140 for labor. O'reillys sell same tensioner for $75 and belt for $26. 6 months later the noise came back. I took off the belt and tensioner myself to try and fix problem and I'm no expert but that isn't $140 worth of labor. read more

UPDATE--I decided to risk over paying at the dealership for whatever service my car needed, as long as the correct service was being performed. I met with a tech and explained to him my issue with the car and gave him Stanley's "diagnosis" and estimate. He didn't seem very confident that Stanley's estimate made sense for the issues that I was experiencing, so he took the car to the back to check it out. It took him 5 minutes to not only identify the issue but fix it!!! There was nothing wrong with any of my parts, nothing needed to be replaced, there was nothing actually wrong with the system. It was simply a dirty connection the caused the electrical system to not fire correctly. The tech cleaned the connection and boom! Problem solved. He felt so badly that I was almost taken advantage of for $700+, that he didn't even charge me for time or labor! He said I had paid more than enough when Stanley charged me for that phony estimate. The dealership just earned a customer for life! Cost of going to the dealership: Total cost of parts needed for repair: $0 Total cost of labor: $0 Total cost of estimate:$0 Lesson learned--do your homework before you blindly entrust your vehicle to anyone! You may end up saving yourself and your vehicle from unnecessary repairs and costs. Worst of all, those unnecessary repairs may still leave your car with the same problems you had in the first place! I'd definitely recommend this mechanic to anyone looking for their Honda's to be serviced. From oil changes to fixing mechanical issues causing overheating in my car this place can do it all. I had taken my car to other mechanics and many other places were trying to up sell me by fixing things that did not to be fixed but Honacura was able to resolve many of the issues my civic had at reasonable prices. I no longer have a Honda but if I could get my Ford serviced at this place I'd definitely continue to bring it here. I bought a new (used) car and of course the check engine light came on the next day. My luck! Since this is my first time owning a Honda I didn't take the car to my regular mechanic, but instead decided to try out this Honda specific mechanic shop, mostly due to their great Yelp reviews. I told Stanley the error code and he immediately called up his parts people and said he could get the part shortly and have the job done in a few hours. Stanley was honest and straight forward about this repair, as well as other car concerns I had, which is always appreciated. I just wanted the job done, plus I need my new car to pass smog, so we moved forward. A few hours later Stanley called, the car was finished and the engine light was off. Seriously, I can't explain him. He's like Yoda or some sh*t. Stan, the owner, I mean. I brought my 2005 Civic in with a laundry list of things that could be wrong with it. It had powered down once or twice at an intersection and was having random electrical problems (which can be expensive), needed an oil change, had a squeaky wheel, and about 100 other things too. Lastly, I was trying to find this really random cover piece right under the e-brake to cover up a gaping hole that I had there. So I come back a few days later, and my grand total for everything was... $36. The oil change ($28) was done, the wheel didn't squeak, and the car hasn't powered down since. He said he "couldn't find anything wrong with the electrical," but I swear to you... I mean, I really swear... it was like the car was like, "Ho sh*t guys, it's Stan... we better knock off our non-sense" and straightened itself the f*ck out, because I CANNOT explain it any other way. He's just the Chuck Norris of Honda repair. Looks at a broken engine and it starts running again out of fear. Also, that little random part to cover the gaping hole? Just $8 from the distributor, direct. Keep in mind, I had googled EVERYWHERE looking for it. I almost want to just take my car in now simply to chat with the guy. read more

I went here based off of reviews off of Yelp, but GEEZ. I will never go back again. I originally went here to get my tires rotated and also to check my tires on their air pressure. Everything seemed fine and dandy and I paid for the services and went home. HOWEVER, I discovered 1.5 hrs later when I was leaving to meet a friend and pulling out of my garage -- that ALL FOUR of my tires were COMPLETELY FLAT. It was actual metal touching the ground. It turns out -- when Stanley checked my tire pressure, he actually didn't screw on my tire valves BACK ON properly. He only screwed them in half-way. Small mistake... but my gosh man. It's common sense!!! It was such an inconvenience for me and it didn't help that he didn't even apologize at all!! I called Stanley immediately and he first denied doing anything wrong and then told me he wouldn't call a tow truck, which ticked me off even more since I had just gotten new tires and a wheel alignment. Finally after arguing more with him a bit, he agreed to reimburse me for the tow truck. Went back to Stanley's shop to have him inspect it again and got my reimbursement and made him agree that after I got a 2nd opinion on my car, if there was damage, he said he'd get me new tires. And like a good "trust-worthy" mechanic, all he said was, "There's no damage. It's fine." I'm going to another place to get things double-checked today. What aggravated me even more was that as I was pulling out of his shop, him and his buddies were laughing as they watched me leave. I don't care what they were talking about, but it just left a really bad taste in my mouth. Will never go again.. and if you do end up going, go with caution. read more

That's really all that needs to be said. No nonsense, out the door and prices that should make car dealerships hang their collective heads in shame. I needed my front brake pads replaced as well as the actuator for the auto locks in my doors changed out. Stanley did both for less than the cost of what the dealership quoted me for the brakes. I had plans to review Stan and Honcura a while back with at least four stars. I had brought my car in for an oil change and brake check (they had been squealing). Stan seemed fine, changed our oil, and even said our brakes were just cheap and the squealing didn't mean I needed to change them. He only charged us for the oil change and sent us on our way. I thought, wow, I didn't get sold unnecessary service? This guy is amazing! Well, months later and my brakes still kept squealing, even worse than before. But, I figured they were fine mechanically? Once the engine light came on, and all of my rear brake lights were out, I decided I should finally take the car in for some service again; I found the nearest and highest rated auto shop to me on Yelp (Advance Muffler) then waited to see what they diagnosed. Granted, the engine check light and brake lights were never a part of Stan's service... but the squealing? I am told by Advance that the brakes were not cheap (and he explained in far too much detail for my auto knowledge on why). My brakes were not installed correctly or lubed in the necessary places! So Stan checked my brakes and put them back on wrong, or he only looked at them to determine I had enough pad left, OR he didn't check my brakes at all. My car no longer squeals, Advance fixed everything and didn't charge me for any part of my brake service, and I learned that Stan did his job incorrectly or not at all. I've usually relied on my uncle for car service but he's got a new job and no spare time for my car. After some Yelping, I decided to come to Stanley. I first visited 2 weeks ago to get a quote for front and/or rear brakes. While leaving my house, I noticed my taillights & dash lights weren't working. I left a little alarmed that I now had another major issue to ainquire about. When I arrived Stanley was busy but a friendly gentleman in the office quickly brought him over. I let him know I was just looking for a quote (even though I'm sure they heard me squeak into the driveway) and wouldn't be able to get any service done that day. He quote me $110 for front, same for the rear. Seemed pretty reasonable given about what I know the parts to be and given the overpriced/hard-sell nature of the national chains & dealerships. Then I explained my troubling light issue and asked if he had any insight as to what it could be and how much *that* would run me. After a quick look under my hood, he let me know I had just blown a fuse and quickly replaced it. Now I know fuses cost next to nothing, but considering I wasn't going to be doing anything else that day I asked him what the charge was, but was hurriedly waved off. Such sweetness from a mechanic! So I returned yesterday for the brake job. They'd been squealing but I wasn't too sure which were worse, front or back, and let him know to please do whichever were most in need, as I could only afford that. It was Noon-ish when I arrived and he was already just about full up for the day, with a few cars already ahead of mine on his written-queue, and told me if would be a couple hours before he got to my car. No problem, I had nothing else to do and the Galleria/Americana are about a 12 minute walk away. Stanley called me about 2 1/2 hours later to let me know the rear brakes were the only ones I'd need done, once again let me know that was $110 and that he'd be done right about 5pm. Great! I arrived and my car was all ready and parked. We chatted while I paid about the Lakers (he undoubtedly noticed my keyring lanyard, heh) and the much anticipated Christmas game against the Heat. I left feeling really at ease with him and the experience as whole. My brakes don't squeal anymore, stop nice and smoothly now and I don't have to pull my emergency brake up as high...not sure if that's directly related to the brake work or if he recalibrated something or other, but I'm happy either way! This is the second time Honcura has saved my life! I had taken my car to get an oil change at an Acura dealership and they told me I had a problem circulating my coolant since it was coming out from the spout and I'd have to start by replacing the thermostat pump, about $320 to replace at the dealership. I always felt like I could trust the dealership but I just had a feeling I was getting taken advantage of after they also included a $125 fix to rewire a fan pushing air into the opposite direction. I took it to the body shop I got the fan from and they pulled up another Acura and let me compare them for myself that it was done correctly. After that all trust was lost at ever going to a dealership. I called Stanley after a friend had recommended him from personal experience. I called in and explained my thermostat and he flat out said it's very rare that it'd break and he thinks it's something else. I bring it in and wait a few minutes and he comes out holding the cap to the coolant container under the hood. He said its a defective cap and its unable to hold a constant pressure and that's why it's coming out the top. He even took out this pressure gauge tool and compared my cap's ability to a new one. He completely fixed my situation that Acura wanted to charge $320 to replace a perfecting good and working part. The cap was $30 dollars. Awesome. A month later I start having battery problems. Battery dies, I jump it and a few days it dies again. I replace the battery and a few days later it dies again. I do some research online and I'm thinking maybe it's the starter or alternator but it's not really fitting the description completely. It's thanksgiving this week so I know I won't be able to leave my car for repairs cause I need to visit my family out of town. I call Stanely and ask if he's able to test the alternator and starter for me to see if it's at least safe for me to take out of town or if it's something worse. I brought it in today and he takes a look and he says that sometimes the blue tooth will come on and not turn off after the car turns off and that's why it's draining the battery. He says he turned it off and I'm good to go. * Honcura and Stanley are awesome. He's so honest and will take the effort to see what's the actual problem instead of just saying something needs to be replaced. I definitely would recommend Honcura. **Updating my review. Stan, the owner, is indeed a Honda Jedi. He simply doesn't sell you on BS service fees or unnecessary repairs. For that alone, he is a rare commodity in the shady world of mechanics (especially in Glendale aka Fraud City). I recently brought in my 2005 Pilot for electrical (new AAA battery - didn't start) & brake issues (scratching sound from his previous brake job). End result - couldn't replicate electrical problem...NO CHARGE. Brake issues from his previous brake job....NEW PADS NO CHARGE. Try to do that with any other mechanic and not get upsold on a new alternator, new starter, some diagnosis fee, and labor fees. Honest. Nice. Affordable. Stanley is the best! I chose this place after reading the good reviews on Yelp. I'd just bought my 02 Accord from a used car dealer and had taken it to Goudy Honda in Alhambra for the pre-purchase inspection pre-purchasing it. They told me a number of things needed to be fixed--new alternator, new battery, new brake pads on all 4 and new rotors on 2--something like that... I don't know much about cars. They gave me a quote of like $500 and I decided to call Honcura to see what his prices were like. A LOT LESS!!! I know dealers rip you off but I guess I didn't realize how much. I took my car in for brakes and decided I'd just ask that he check the other stuff. He said it should be about 3 hours and gave me walking directions to Glendale Galleria. I walked there in 10 minutes and about 20 minutes later he called me and said the following: "Your rear brake pads need replacing so I'm doing that. The rotors are worn but I'll just do a bit of reconditioning. The alternator is fine for now, when it needs to be replaced your CHECK ENGINE light will go on--probably in a few thousand miles-- but I wouldn't replace it before then. The battery is fine too, I'll just clean it up a bit. I'll be done in about 20 minutes." So what would have cost me $500 ended up costing about $90. And I found an HONEST MECHANIC!!! Priceless. I decided to try out Honcura based on all of the Yelp reviews. I had an oil change and tire rotation done on my Acura TSX done in early April, so the work was maintenance, rather than repair or troubleshooting oriented. Though I'm a woman, I'm familiar with the requirements for checking fluids, and tire rotations and inflation. In the past, I've gone to Jiffy Lube-type places and am familiar with the scope of their work which is pretty extensive, so I expected something similar. For this visit, Honcura earned 3 stars, which means that it was ok. In spite of my somewhat disappointing experience, I have not given up on Honcura, yet. I had my car within 20 minutes, as Stanley promised. The following are my disappointments: 1. Tire inflation - was done at 30 psi, but it should have been 30 in the back and 32 in the front (the front tires have to be inflated higher because it carries the heavy engine). Stanley's assistant was very defensive, but Stanley personally take care of inflating the tires himself. 2. I also asked to know how low the tire inflation was before they inflated it...the assistant had no idea and didn't seem to care at all to give any feedback. 3. I asked Stanley how the air filter looked and he said he didn't know because it wasn't checked. I was disappointed because that's something that in my opinion, should be looked at. He quickly opened up the filter compartment, though, and it was relatively clean, so I was satisifed. My disappointment though is that I had to ask...Jiffy Lube always looks at it. 4. I asked if the cabin air filter had been checked and he said no...I decided to do that myself at home. Again, Jiffy Lube always looks at it... 5. I also mentioned to Stanley that my mpg was pretty low... in the low 20 mpg...though I do mostly highway and average about 60 mph and try to keep my tires inflated correctly. He sort of shrugged his shoulders...so that was the end of that.... 6. I was also disappointed that there is no estimate write up though he gave me a verbal $ estimate (but I guess less paperwork lets me get my car back that much faster.) Don't get me wrong, Stanley seems like a nice guy and doesn't complicate things which is great. So, either I have to adjust my expectations and be much more clear and articulate up front to make sure I'm clear on what's included in the service I want...or go elsewhere. Based on the other yelp reviews, I have to believe that he's an honest guy. read more

I went there for the first time to do a maintenance service for my honda. Called in to ask for their down time. When I went there to drop of the car I met Stan, he was pretty nice and straight forward, he asked me if there's any concern that he should look into, I told him to check on my brakes because I heard some screeching noise a couple times. He told me that there's shouldn't be any problem because my car is only 12k on the mileage. Then I went home and wait til it was time to pick up the car. When i went back Stan told me there's nothing wrong with my brakes, he just charge me for the oil change, it's pretty cheap compared to the dealership. I'm happy, my car run smoothly after the oil change. I think he did more than just an oil change, like adding the pressure on the tires etc. I didn't get him to change my air filter because I have a K&N that I bought and installed myself. Stan should serve as a model for all mechanics. He's honest, hard working and charges more than fair prices. I brought my 2000 Toyota Camry to him (he said he would work on it even though he specializes in Hondas/Acuras) twice. The first time he completely rebuilt the engine (for $800 less than the toyota dealership quoted) and it was really well done. The second (years later) was an issue that the Toyota dealership wanted to charge $200 just to run tests to see what the problem was. Stan looked at it and ultimately could not find out what was wrong with it as well...the good news? He only charged me $40 versus the tests at the dealership that were $200. Now when you see this many 5 star reviews...you get somewhat skeptical especially when some yelp reviews have let me down...but I have to say every single review I've read so far about Stanley is true. I went there yesterday to change my brakes and noticed a problem w/ one of the wheels. He found a nail in it and patched it up. Brakes and patched wheel were less than what most independent repair shops quoted me and way less than the dealership I normally go to. I noticed about 5 or 6 cars parked in the lot ahead of me and still was done in 1/2 the time. The dealership (Goudy in Alhambra) I go to takes the ENTIRE day just to do an oil change! I told him that he comes highly recommended and he mentioned something about a "yelp" but had no idea what it was...just that alot of his customers lately have mentioned it. He just told me..."take care of your customers...thats the best thing." Very nice guy...he remembered my name when I called in a few days earlier. He's been working at Honda dealers for years and it seemed he opened his own place and is mostly familiar w/ Hondas and Acuras but said he can fix other cars depending on whats needed. If you are one who doesn't have a Honda or Acura, I would call him and ask him what he can do. Will go back to get a major tune up done so expect another updated review. I had this horrible rattling underneath my Toyota Matrix, which turned out to be a loose gas tank shield. I originally went in to the local Toyota dealership for a quote but it was way too high for the type of repair. So, I took to Yelp to find a good alternative and found Honcuras. I called them up and Stan was happy to help even though this was typically a Honda/Acura shop. He understandably didn't have the part in stock, but did give me a temporary fix in the mean time to make my car sound normal again. Once the parts came in the repair was made quickly and at a very reasonable price (1/5th of the Toyota dealership!!!). TL;DR: No upsell, very professional, quick service, and great prices. I read about this place on Yelp and decided to try them out since Midas had recently told me I needed some items replaced on my car. I was told by Midas I needed front & rear brakes and 4 new tires. Stanley at Honcura was so nice! He told me I only needed front brakes replaced- the back could wait another 10,000 miles. He doesn't do tires but recommended me to another place and told me I could wait another 4-5K miles on replacing the back ones. Hands down would recommend this place to anyone who needs their car serviced. He replaced my front brakes and changed my oil in half an hour and for $140. What a deal!
