Many, many years ago, there was a pizza joint located in Champlain Heights called Hometown Pizza that we'd often grab takeout from. The mom and pop shop left the area and we eventually forgot all about them. Recently, we noticed a Hometown Pizza that was located on 57th Ave and Knight Street so we decided to drop by and see if it was in fact the same place. We didn't see the former owner (guessing that ownership has changed hands over the years) but we did see a number of familiar items on the menu and decided to order the Factory Special pizza ($16.45 + $2 for added pineapple) which comes with ham, salami, pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, green peppers, cheese, and tomato sauce. Service was fairly quick and the pizza came out in about 10-15 minutes. The interior of this pizza place is actually quite spacious but it's fairly stark inside and we almost thought the place wasn't even open. In addition to their regular pizza, pasta, and chicken wing offerings, they also had some East Indian items on their menu as well. read more

Pizza size is small. I ordered a medium and it was more of a small size. It was bigger than a small but not definitely a medium. I've had better pizza else where. It's good for the area but I won't be back. There's a really good pizza place in Surrey I go to. Won't name the place. Pizza was on the dryer side too. Service was nice. Don't believe any of their reviews. You can't trust any of these reviews for any restaurant anymore. They just get 10 or 15 of their friends to write 10 reviews each that are all great. Read the bad reviews Those are the ones that will give you an idea of how bad the food is or the service. There was barely any toppings on the pizza and it was not fully cooked. We ended up eating only the toppings because it was just like eating a big piece of dough. There is no way all those reviews are real. they don't follow order instructions, almost insist on not doing so. asked again and again for a decent amount of ginger and cilantro on top after coming out of the oven...nearly every time the smallest amount was put on before going in the oven. asked again and again for extra hot spice and it was like medium at best every time. the owner really needs to go to surrey (ex Scott Hill Pizza) and see how it's done. read more

Ordered three variations of wings and GOD DAMN they have some intense Indian flavours on em. 8/10 would muck again! It's probably not as bad as it sounds, maybe a 2.5 but for sure, I can think of a handful of other pizza joints within a 5min. drive that are more recommendable. Service was good; fast, within 30min. of placing order. but the crust is just plain ordinary, you just don't want to feel like finishing it. But the worse part: when you picked up the slice, it was so soggy, almost even wet at the bottom. Probably a bit too much tomato sauce to begin with, as every bite literally oozed out. Ordered the Flame, which is definitely great for those who like spicy: hot pepperoni and capicollo, no complaints about the generous portion of toppings. Just didn't like the way it was made. We've lived fairly close to Hometown Pizza for almost 10 years, but we only discovered it a couple of years ago, based on a friends recommendation. The location is pretty non-descript and it's easy to drive by without noticing it. Our family really likes the pizza here. Definitely a step up from the big pizza chains. The service is super friendly, and the value is outstanding. As a side note, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the credit card machine doesn't prompt you for a tip when you pick up your order. This must be one of the few places I have been to recently where you are not prompted to provide an extra 15% for picking up your order. I'm all in favour of tipping well for good service, but I'm old enough to remember when restaurants actually offered you a discount for picking up your food order! Overall, a good choice for good pizza and above average service. read more

Best pizza I've had in Vancouver by a mile! I used to live in Montreal and this is up there in the best pizza I've had period. Their sauce is fantastic, seriously their sauce makes the pizza. Their dough is also amazing, really light and fluffy, almost like a pan pizza. They use real bacon, not the fake stuff you get from the chain places. They're a bit light on the cheese so I recommend getting extra cheese. Highly recommend these guys! read more

Feeling famished after an evening Grouse Grind, we stopped over at Hometown to grab a pie and some wings, because hey, what's the point of burning off all those precious calories if you don't promptly replace them with meat, cheese, and carbohydrates? First off, the servers there were a bit dismissive, with the girl at the front appearing as though we had interrupted a very important conversation with our order. Even after our order was up, one fellow at the back continued to tap away on his mobile for a few minutes, on what must've been some exceptionally sexy messages (or very addictive games). If you're ordering, a quick tip: don't bother ordering according to the chalk-ish menu board at the top, as that's apparently not current. Prices were off, as well as item quantities (ie. number of wings) to an order. Just stick with the take-away menu, or just pay attention to whatever the server says. We ordered The Flame, what was supposed to be a spicier pizza, with pepperoni, capicolli ham, onions, and green pepper. The pie came out decent, with a crust that was fairly crisp and flavourful, but don't expect any sort of substantial heat or spiciness. The wings were a bit of a different story. We first fell victim to their mistaken chalk-board menu, which displayed the wrong pricing and quantities, but even after referring to the take-away menu, all was not well, as they short-changed us one wing, and swapped us honey garlic flavour instead of hot, as we had requested. The wings themselves were of the smaller variety too, the inch and a half-ish per wing (length) sort. For pizza dip, we were given the Hellmann's brand, of which I've never been a fan, as they always come out tasting really over-processed. The one surprise highlight of the meal, was that our order apparently coincided with some sort of promotion, whereby we were gifted with two free cans of soda. The verdict: passable food, service could use some upgrading, mostly a convenience-proximity-laziness play, in my view. read more

My family has been ordering pizza from here for years. They have been numerous owners...so let's talk about the current ones. I like the pizza...yes the first bite can be to soft but I've never had a pizza that was entirely soggy lol. I always order the vegetarian which I recently had with feta...yum! The pizza isn't classic Italian pizza, it's like Panago...heavy crust with lots of cheese and toppings. I've never ordered anything else from here and doubt I would. If you want Indian food order from a place that specializes in only Indian food. These guys specialize in pizza lol. read more

One of the worst pizza places. The restaurant space is very questionable as well seems dirty not sure how clean the kitchen is the thought makes my stomach curl. The ingredients are not fresh and the crust is very basic pizza is very soggy too. Note: never order any of the other food the fish pakora or wings those are the very worst on menu and i really question if safe to even eat they are most likely frozen for long periods of times and recooked. There are tons of pizza places nearby that are good so no need to use. This place is walking distance from me and i will never use them. read more

My parents ordered the fish pakora from here as my dad was craving it. They placed a take out order and when they came home and ate it, the fish was freezer burned and dried up, as if it had been left in their freezer for the last year. My mom called them back only to have the lady argue back with her and say that "they do not refund food" and that "they werent going to do anything about it" Most reputable restaurants and take out joints will refund your money and if not that will at least give you a new fresh order along with an apology. Terrible food, will not be going back here, and I would not advise anyone to do so unless you would like to waste your money. read more

Can't recommend this place for the charming atmosphere but the pizza is surprisingly good. I got the paneer pizza and although I was a little leery at first my friend really recommended this place. The pizza was loaded with fresh toppings and it wasn't greasy like your typical Pizza Hut would be. It seems to be a family owned establishment. When we walked in the lady ignored us for a bit even though we were the only ones there. But when the owner(?) returned he was genuinely warm and friendly. If I lived in the neighbourhood I'd definitely choose ordering from this place over a dominos or a pizza hut. read more

We've ordered from this place before and were fairly satisfied, so we decided to order from here again. This time, we ordered their speciality butter chicken and a few other sides (through just eat). When our ordered arrived, we realized that we received butter chicken pizzas instead of the entree, so we called to complain. We knew they had made the mistake, but the lady who had claimed to be their manager explained that they couldn't fix their mistake due to food costs. Did I mention it was their mistake? I walked in and wanted to order Pizza after work.I go up Knight street everyday and decided to stop right along Knight and 57th ther. I've always seen them (as they have been there since 1980!!) but never went in. So glad I did!! Inside I met Mandeep and his wife Molaka. Their 2 kids were there. It has family business, literally written all over it. I decided to order their Hometown Special Pizza. The service was fantastic!! Such a nice couple who care very much about their customers. I chatted with them while I was waiting. The pizza came and i was really "wow'd" by the generous amount of pepporoni, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, Cheese and Beef. I could see why these guys have been around for so long. They know how to cook a pizza. Not that expensive either! This is a very surprising place. My son lives nearby and I said "hi" one day to the owner. Two weeks later we were at the strip mall again and I wanted to see the menu, it seemed so..... varied. Pizza, lasagna, subs, Punjabi, wings, fish and chips. The area actually looks empty and at first we thought it was closed. But it wasn't. Once we were inside that huge menu covering so many different kinds of food just mesmerized me. The people that run the place are just downright hospitable, it was obviously a very family run place. I'm a cheap old man with enough Scottish blood that I don't usually buy anything on impulse, but this was different. I truly wanted to try this place out and the chicken wings looked like as good a place to start so we ordered 20 of them. Then I was perusing the menu when I saw Rasmalai, my favorite Punjabi dessert which I haven't had in several years. It said (2) $6.19. I said to the guy: "are they made with gold flakes?" He was trying to assure me they were good and I said: "good they may be, but 2 for $6.19?" He assured me that it was a misprint it was really 6 (probably they originally meant two individual orders - two large deserts enough for both of us). I couldn't help myself, I ordered the Rasmalai. Anyway, the wings were just excellent but the damn Rasmalai was the best I've ever had. We plan to head back and try some of the other items. The restaurant itself looks so "empty" because this is the kind of food you want to eat at home, relaxed with your feet up. Next we are going to try the butter chicken, pizza and work our way through. I ordered delivery lasagna and meatballs from this place today, and I am certainly underwhelmed. For starters, the "meatballs" are not meat, or at least are a very small percentage. I don't mind vegetarian meatballs, but truth in advertising is important. The lasagna is ok, but it has a non-traditional taste. It tastes slightly like Indian food, which I love, but again, it isn't what I was looking for. The lasagna came with a small salad, which was a nice plus, but it was definitely one of those bagged iceberg salads you can buy in the grocery store. It was just iceberg, red cabbage and carrots. If you're looking for an authentic Canadian meal, I would probably look elsewhere. read more

Our family has been orderig from Hometown Pizza since the mid 1980s or maybe longer. As far as I know they have not changed location in all that time - maybe they moved from one corner to another in the 90s? In any case, we have almost always ordered for pickup, as I recall they give a 10% discount for pickup. I have never had anything other than their pizza. We have usually ordered the "Factory Special". It is a soft crust, with usually a crispy edge, tomato sauce a bit spicy. Overall, it has been good value for the money. Too soggy , bleh and this place smells like curry from outside

My family have been ordering here since the 1980's when I was a little kid. I believe there was ownership change sometime during the 2000's to Indians. The quality in the past 10 years has been generally OK. I've noticed that the consistency of the toppings have been hit or miss. 50% of the time, the pizza seems fresh and the toppings are great. The other 50%, the pizza seems soggy and the toppings are not very generous. In my recent order, I noticed the meats in my pizza, either the salami or cappicolo had a rancid smell to them. I recognize this odor sometimes from my fridge when my sliced deli meat is expired. Its not a hard scent to recognize so shame on them for still using this meat for consumers. Am I surprised? Nope...just another business cutting corners to make whatever profit they can squeeze. My buddy and I had diareah at the same time and I am almost certain it is from the food here. read more
