My husband loved HomeState while I thought it was mid. Our views were so different that I'll return based on how great he thought it was. We ordered a Tijuana panther, a picadillo taco, and a brisket taco. We added a side of their queso and a tortilla with butter. I love the big patio, booths inside, and service. It was pretty slow for not being very busy and what appeared to be overstuffed. The chips and queso were very good. The Tijuana panther taco was sopping wet and I could only finish half of it because it was so messy and hard to eat without asking for a fork and knife. My husband's picadillo taco is where it was at. It was tangy from the pickled jalapenos, meat was beautifully seasoned, and tortilla dry enough to hold. The brisket taco was overstuffed and messy as well. I appreciate packing them full, but when they're served rolled it makes a handheld food item completely inedible by hand. The employee working the register was delightful and I'd go back just for her.

Such a fun unique spot. Flower tortillas have butter so be aware if you're allergic to dairy. I think the service is top notch and they have a huge staff which I'm a fan of. I also like that they do a partnership with bands. Leon Bridges had a taco which I believe proceeds go towards a charity. I can get behind that. The place just feels hip and the food is satisfying. Bathrooms were clean and it is in the coolest part of Oceanside right next to Tanners.

Great service and friendly staff. Lots of room. Classic queso that I enjoy. Brisket is quite a treat. Cravable in fact. Sometimes I enjoy eating in the bathroom for privacy. (I eat quick) Thank you

Having grown up in south Texas I've missed the sacred meal that is the breakfast taco. No other place outside of San Antonio / Austin have come close to delivering the perfect breakfast taco, but HomeState has done it! Specifically the trinity taco is *chefs kiss*! Plus the vibes and decor are great! The staff is super friendly at all locations I've been to. Such a feeling of warmth and like coming home

The best tortillas I've ever had! Only four ingredients.

These are the best tortillas ever! Made of four ingredients. I would highly recommend a visit to HomeState for tacos and tortillas. They use said flour tortillas for the tacos, although we also purchased a dozen tortillas since they tasted so fresh and amazing. In addition, I got a Ranch salad which was jam packed with fresh ingredients and also a good size side of soyrizo for $4. I didn't even notice the missing avocado on the salad until we had left the restaurant because I was so distracted with the delicious tortillas. The collective of restaurants here has limited parking. I don't know how the burger place next door was more packed than HomeState because this spot has fresh and delicious items.

The tacos were okay. The brisket taco we ordered was cold but they brought us a new one that was much better. The breakfast taco with eggs cheese and bacon was good. The chorizo and egg taco was not it. Maybe we came at a bad time but nothing we ate stood out. Everything was pretty average and not memorable. The service was friendly and i appreciated their effort to get us a fresh taco. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available.

Loaded queso w/brisket, Trinity, Guadalupe, large margarita on the rocks

Stopped by for a late lunch and enjoyed my meal. What I ate: - Trinity Taco: pretty much the perfect brekkie taco - eggs, bacon, cheese potato. Really satisfying to eat - Guadalupe taco: Chorizo, eggs and cheese, this was also great but I think I think I prefer the trinity taco - Loaded queso w/brisket: this was perfect queso, hearty brisket, sour cream, guac, pico de gallo. Great to share for the table, or just be greedy and crush it all by yourself like the champ you are - Large margarita on the rocks: My rule of thumb is always go for the larger size when offered. I thought this was kinda great for a margarita, zippy, sour, strong. I preferred it on the rocks, but they offer it as a frozen slushy as well Pros: - Those tortillas! I love homestate's flour tortillas, homemade, slightly thick, but pretty perfect. If you're a corn tortilla die hard, those are offered to, but live a little and try the flour ones - Red and green hot sauce in squeeze bottles, both were delicious - Staff walked by at least twice during my meal to check in on me. Super sweet - A few table inside as well as plenty of tables on a patio overlooking the parking lot. Two long bar seating areas as well - Order came out pretty quickly Cons: - Teeny tiny parking lot. I circled the block twice, and both times it was full. After finding street parking I came back, and found 2 spots open. This lot can be busy with the bakery and burger place next door. - Price is on the expensive side Would I come again? Yea

Walked in knowing I wanted a breakfast taco and an anytime taco. Walked out with the Trinity, Tijuana Panther, and potato tacos per the cashier's recommendation. They were all delicious, but the potato was my favorite. Not only do I love potatoes, this was one of the most well distributed taco I've had. I got guacamole in every bite!

Good breakfast tacos. Small but at a good price they offer flower and corn tortillas which was nice. The ambience was casual and friendly. The family really liked this place. Maya was helpful.

I decided to stop by here on the way home from San Diego! I heard about HomeState from an old YouTube video and it was always on my list of must try's. Ambiance/Service: This is a fast casual Tex mex place that specializes in breakfast tacos. There's plenty of seating but it does get chilly in there so bring a jacket. The woman who helped us was informative and kind, giving her suggestions on what to order. Food Consensus: My family and I ordered an array of breakfast tacos. I ordered the Trinity and Pecos. The tacos weren't bad but they weren't the best either. Out of the 2, I would recommend the Pecos. I also tried both the corn and flour tortillas and I think the flour is superior to the corn. The corn tortilla was a bit dry for my taste. I think at $4-6 per taco, the price point is a bit steep based on the size and quality of the taco. I would like a bit more filling in the tacos and flavoring on the salsas. I think my expectations were a bit higher because of the video I saw. I would go if I needed a fast and easy quick bite but I wouldn't go out of my way to get homestate.

A taste like Torchys but closer to home. I've had HomeState on my list for quite a while, but I'm rarely in Oceanside. When I found myself in the area, I knew I had to visit! The breakfast tacos are absolutely delicious! I ordered the trinity (egg, cheese, bacon and potato) and Chicano Batman (soy based picadillo, guac and potato). The trinity was my preferred taco and I think I'll stick to the breakfast menu moving forward, because they were so good! I got one taco on flour and one on corn and I definitely preferred the flour. You can tell its homemade and was the perfect chewy and fluffy?! I wish I had bought a bag of tortillas just to take home. The chicano batman was good as well, but the meat got a little saucy and overwhelming and I liked the breakfast taco more. They pair them with delicious salsas though. The queso was a nice addition to the mix and we were offered more chips when we finished our tray. Even though this is an order at the counter situation, the folks were so friendly and attentive.

Stopped in here on a whim cuz I'd seen it on Instagram enough that I thought I should check it out finally. They did not disappoint at all! Service was super easy, they took my order properly and fast. The nachos were piled HIGH with meat and other delicious toppings with various flavors that complemented each other perfectly.i especially loved how thinly sliced their jalapeños are so I could get some with each bite. I can see why the queso is their star and would probably go back for just chips, queso, and drinks. Plenty of seating but we stayed outside for some nice pre-summer evening weather.

My husband and I rarely go to Oceanside but we thought to try this place out. SERVICE - This spot offers counter service where you place your order, grab a number, and find a table. FOOD Ranch Salad - A solid taco salad with a good mix of toppings and plenty of flavor. Nachos - Generously stacked with toppings and had good flavor overall, but the pickled onions dominated the dish a bit too much. Tacos - We tried both the breakfast and brisket tacos, but the flavors didn't come together well. Both felt bland, and nothing really stood out. A mixed experience overall, with some highlights, but we would not go back. There are better tacos elsewhere.

The salsa was good IMO, though the rest of the table thought it was too spicy. For drinks we chose a Mexican Candy ($15) and Hibiscus Margarita ($14). They were okay. I think not really worth the price (barely any buzz). I'll probably stick with a beer next time but that's okay. For food, we ordered the Chile Relleno & Cheese Enchilada ($20), Queso Birria Taco Plate ($18) and for me, the Fajita Mixta ($26). Everyone liked their food. For me, I've had better fajitas elsewhere (Mariscos Hualtulco is my fav) but these were still good (except no green bell pepper for some reason). I noticed the *new* menu price for the fajitas was $29 (Mixta), but on the bill it was still $26 (old menu price). So be aware, the new price is coming obviously. I want to try the Molcajete but $38 is a stretch! Atmosphere was okay. It was a Saturday and although it was early, I expected a more vibrant feel, but maybe that comes later in the night. There was plenty of seating. Parking was okay, but the lot was oddly packed however even though the restaurant was not. I would come back to try something else on the menu, but with so many great Mexican options in our area, they need that extra something to attract more patrons. A happy hour with $10 margs for starters would be nice.

It was on a Friday night, the place was packed, and difficult to find a spot to park. The line to order was almost out the door, but still fast to get through, and we were quick to choose what we wanted before struggling to find a spot to sit and talk. After about 15 minutes, our order was ready and we got to enjoy our food. We started with the Carne Asada Nachos, Refried Beans on the side. The meat was flavorful, very tender, and plentiful atop a pile of crisp and fresh tortilla chips. The cheese was nice and salty and the sour cream was warm to the point where it drizzled over it all nicely. All in all, it was a very tasty start to the night. The only two issues I had with it were that the guac was a bit overly pureed, making it kind of runny. And the refried beans had a very sour flavor, making me think that they were over the edge of going spoiled. I had to thank my wife's aversion to eating beans, helping us avoid having them spooned on top, which would have ruined this course. I also had an Al Pastor Taco, Craft Coast Style. The whole it was crisped up well, the cheese forming a great crust on the inside of the taco. The meat was sweetly marinaded, flavorful and delicious. On top of it was a good amount of beans, onions, cilantro, and guacamole, making for a good sized taco without any overflowing. It was pretty damn tasty. So, our first trip out here had more highs than lows, resulting in a very positive initial dinner. I'm sure those beans were just a one-off, at least I hope they were. And there's still hope that the guac may have had too much lime or had been overly mixed this time around. A second trip is definitely in the cards, with more of the family to expand what comes to the table.
