I've been on a quest to find the greatest California Burrito within a 30-mile radius. This one was pretty good, but for the price, it could've been bigger. The contents were loosely rolled, so it was a bit messier than I would like. It should've been packed tighter. The flavor in my burrito was tasty, but it was also a bit on the small side. The meat was seasoned well and was moist with juices from the beef. Just describing this is making me hungry for more. Definitely will be back! read more

Came here after grabbing some coffee next door. I'm always up to trying new places serving Mexican food. I ordered a Carne Asada burrito and a couple of churros. Plenty of seating inside with a few outdoor seating available. We chose to sit outside. The burrito was a good size and very good. The churros are long and wrapped in food foil. Very good as well. Parking can be tricky parking in front of the restaurant, but there is plenty of parking in this strip mall. Service is friendly and quick. I really enjoyed my chile relleno burrito, had great texture from the pepper so it wasn't too mushy. Great flavors all around. Even tho we had a 10 min drive home, everything held up really well. The rolled tacos were pretty good, great crunch and toppings. My husband got the Cali burrito and I had a bite, it was legit. Food came out fast, service was nice and place clean. Great salsa bar. Love these giant burritos! My friend's fave is a bean and cheese with rice, I love the breakfast burritos. Their carrots and peppers at the salsa bar are delish and their green salsa is my fave. This is a family owned business. When you walk in, you're also treated like family. I come here once or twice a week. They always make me feel special. They'll do special orders if I ask them, they are kind and generous with their servings and very reasonably priced. The place is always busy and that's because they have a good value meal, generous portions, and the place is very clean. My only suggestion is to have more outdoor seating with plastic, not metal seats. Metal seats are too cold and hard. Overall, spectacular service and I highly recommend when you're in Carlsbad stop by and have a very generous five dollar fish taco! read more

We ordered their breakfast egg, cheese and potato burrito. Great size burrito to share. The potatoes were slightly charred and we were lucky if there was one full egg in the entire burrito. It honestly was predominantly potatoes, with a little cheese and virtually no egg. I had 0 in my half, while my husband had one bite of egg in his half. Disappointing. Prices going up is par for the course (used to be 4$!), but the fact that they use thick pre-shredded cheese that doesn't melt (and I could see the powdery cellulose on the stiff strands) is what earns them a less-than average rating. Service is friendly; the cashier kept the phone with her while cleaning tables to quickly answer calls. At nearly 10$ for a bean burrito with subpar cheese, I doubt I will be back soon. I was really in the mood for Mexican food for lunch today but had to run to the Postal Annex and CVS. There was no parking quite bear CVS so I drove a little bit down and saw Mexico Viejo. I thought "awesome, this must be meant to be I can get Mexican food for lunch after all" It was a little before noon and not too busy. The last behind the cash register was nice. I had a huge coffee and was a bit chatty, going on about wanting to get something different than I always get. She could have gotten irritated but didn't. I landed in the carne asada tacos and beans and rice. She offered me a water cup whole I waited which I didn't realize I needed after all that coffee until she gave it to me. lol Man- I know it looks like your regular meal from the picture, but for some reason I was digging the beans and rice! The rice was really fluffy and beans were just the right consistency! The carne asada tacos were delicious, but I kept going back to the beans and rice. Their two red salsa choices were amazing and I mixed in with the beans and rice. The portions are really good for the price. The restaurant was clean and decorated well. If you're in search of a quick and tasty Mexican food fix this is a great place to try in west north county. Located right off hwy 78 and El Camino real...in the vons shopping center and very convenient if you've been shopping at the mall across the street. I was greeted right away as it was around 3 pm...I was offered small cups for salsa and served myself from the salsa cart..traditional carrots and limes were also available. My crunchy chicken taco came up quickly and was stuffed with juicy chicken and cheese. The side of beans was also hot and delicious. I've been to other locations and this one did not disappoint. The carne asada fries were huge and the cheese quesadilla was oozing with melted cheese. The fries were super crispy with the right amount of crunch. The lady was super nice and friendly. The salsa bar had several choices of salsa and hot carrots and cucumber. There is enough seating, but it can feel a little tight. There are rows of tables, but they are pretty close to each other. Overall, def try it out! read more

I asked for my coke top to be removed, so the girl pointed for me to do it. (!). Then, when the order was ready, instead of earning her almost $7 tip, she said "Here's your order" and had us come to the counter to get our food. Again, DO NOT LEAVE THEM A TIP - THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP YOU!!! Lastly, the owner is an absolute cheap-skate... the cutlery they give you for your food is a JOKE.... I mean, I thought there were cameras on me for filming the show "HIDDEN CAMERA", because the cheap-ass, slim, thin fork and knife won't cut into anything hot/warm... they become disfigured and then, you're stuck with food that you really can't eat!! So I took some time to think about whether or not to update this review I felt like it was only fair that I do as I review most places every six months or when I get back to them, I ordered a Carne Asada burrito, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and everything comes with it My mom ordered a Caldo de ress it hurts me to say, though the service was great. The quality of the food was disgraceful. The burrito was as usual good my mother's plate was mainly fat and meat so tough. She couldn't even show it. We immediately left and went across the street to Jersey Mike's even because the food was so bad I give this place a zero in my mind. however, I have to give them at least one star due to yaps policy. I will tell you this I have come here since I was in high school. I graduated in 96 so I've been coming here for quite some time. It goes in waves however, I am disappointed. This is the most expensive place in the area and when you get a soup that's supposed to have beef in it and it's nothing but spat and the beef that is in there is so tough that they cannot be chewed. I even tried it. It is a severe disappointment. The ambience in the room is no different than your typical Alberto's however, it is better in the sense that you could pick your seat but by what I have experienced there is a very obvious reason why you can pick your seat. I won't be back anytime soon. I am disappointed beyond belief and how far a place complement I wish I could say something positive, but I cannot. Monday Special 2 beef tacos & drink was super good loaded with tasty shredded beef & cheese with lettuce. Tacos were deep fried to perfection and it was delicious with their homemade salsa from the bar. The beverage was at least 16 oz fountain style behind the counter. We have gotten the breakfast burritos a handful of times and will no longer. The breakfast burritos are potato burritos. Littered with fries and barely any eggs or meat. Every one we have ordered has been this way. We have asked them how many eggs go into the burrito and they said 2-3 which is simply not possible. read more

I ordered 1/2 carne asada fries To-go & the food was okay, nothing special; I'm only a few bites in and as I'm moving my fries around I find a OIL FRYER SCREW at the bottom. Im home so i call them immediately & they ask me to drive all the way back to them so that the kitchen can see, then she said she would refund me. I drive back & they didn't bother to even make a new replacement for me over THEIR mistake. Man, this place took a dive. Used to be one of my favorite local spots. I felt lazy and indulgent, so ordered some burritos for the first time in a while and all I have to say is "disappointing ". Can't speak on behalf of my husband's carne asada burrito, but my California burrito was subpar. The carne asada is more like poorly seasoned ground beef and the French fries have a subtle taste of fish...like are they cooking the French fries and fish in the same oil? Ordered with guacamole and sour cream, but couldn't even tell you for certain it was included...Look, I get it, things are different after COVID, but for $30+ I expect to enjoy my food without having to feel concerned I might get food poisoning based off the flavor and texture of my meal. To begin with the woman "order-taker" is extremely shady. She never smiles and has shifty eyes. She tries to run up the bill every chance she gets, never offering any deals or promos. She also doesn't allow the customer to finalize their own transaction so they can print a receipt instead she quickly reaches over and pushes a few buttons and wa-la no record that the transaction ever took place. The quality of the food varies depending upon which cook is on duty. The last time I ate there I ordered a taco and chile relleno combination ($14). The pepper was hard as a rock as it was barely cooked. The taco shell was stale (ugh) and only a small portion of beans was given. I ate what I could then through the rest in the trash. A few hours after eating this mess, I got food poisoning and was very sick for a few days. Not worth the risk. There's a much better place right up the road across from Target. read more

Only visited this restaurant because I was in the area working on my golf swing ‍ Ordered the Super Nachos with Pollo asado, beans, sour cream and guacamole. Upon opening the carton at home the nachos seem to be piled with chicken and crema. But upon further inspection, picking up of chips, there was absolutely little to no cheese. Everything was dry. Too bad too, because my daughter complained, "They only gave us chips, Daddy." After the top dozen chips or so the evidence doesn't lie. Not good. Being from Carlsbad, I'm used to subpar food. Let's face it, most of what we have is below average for San Diego county and Southern California in general. Swore this place off pre-Covid but decided to give it a try again. Decided to stick with a simple Carne Asada burrito, which any taco shop should have down. Wish I would have picked any other respectable eating establishment in this shopping center instead. The carne asada was like a soup...almost. Sound like your thing? Then skip my rating and go for it. Asked for no pico and got pico (it was dead and there was no line ahead or behind me), whatever. Had some pickled carrots while I was waiting. Totally bland. No flavor to speak of. The burrito was soupy and the salsa was watery, so no way to compensate. I was so disappointed. Ordered some chicken nachos, got a pile of just cheese, dry pollo asado, and sour cream. There was only cheese & chicken on the top part, the bottom was all chips. I asked for shredded chicken ($16.00) down the drained . Picked at it because I was starving, but ended up throwing in the trash .
