We were on our drive back to Orange County from San Diego and decided to stop by Carlsbad and explore a little. We found a parking spot and walked around looking for somewhere to eat lunch before we continued our way up. We walked by this place which looks like it can be very fun at night and decided to check them out. They have indoor and outdoor dining area with the outdoor being covered patio. The weather was really nice, so we decided to sit outside and enjoy the view. Our server was very nice and we got sat right away. We decided to order 2 draft beers which were really refreshing and cold. We ordered the chips and guac to start. The chips arrived even warm because of how fresh they were. I highly recommend this as a starter. I don't like walk so they offered some salsas. All of the salsa were delicious and the chips complimented them very well with just a little bit of salt on them. My boyfriend decided to order two shrimp tacos and I wasn't too hungry so I ordered one grilled mahi-mahi taco. These tacos were amazing. The shrimp taco salsa went so well with the shrimp they were delicious. I regretted only ordering one mahi-mahi taco because it was great. Overall, I highly recommend this spot and whenever we go back to San Diego, we will for sure be stopping here. read more

We came here for the Padres game. Sat at the bar and got the $15 pitcher of Estrella Jalisco special. I ordered the Carnitas taco and the El Paso taco and they were great. An amazing value and a great experience. We got to watch the Padres and they also put the Dodgers game on. read more

This place has such amazing food! We were so happy that we chose this as our first meal while vacationing in Carlsbad. I wish I had gotten our servers name ( Hispanic gentleman, beard). He gave us such wonderful suggestions and he was hilarious and had a great personality! We had great drinks and food and when we come back next year this will be a mainstay to our trip. Walked right in on a sunny afternoon and got a table with friends right away. The servers were really polite the whole meal. I like the indoor/outdoor vibe the restaurant has. It was definitely good chill place to grab some food. I got a carajillo to start and a carnitas burrito. The carajillo was just ok. It honestly did not taste like a carajillo and it tasted like an espresso martini because I didn't taste any licor 43. I think they just mixed up my drink but it was ok. The carnitas burrito was delicious and was the perfect portion size for me to be able to finish but also large enough for me to feel very full and satisfied. We did not have our usual server Patty, who is excellent, and unfortunately our server didn't realize that he works in the Hospitality business not the Hostility business. He continued to say NO to our very simple requests such as my wife could not have a soft shredded chicken taco instead of the hard shell chicken taco on as the menu. I decided to close out the year by coming back to 1 of my regular chill spot. Carlsbad Inn For dinner, the location of my resort made this very easy because there are quite of a bit of option in walking distance. I was feeling for some Mexican food and then i spotted Tortilla Mia. Me and my mother had a great dining experience. Our waitor was fast and attentive. Our food was spot. I had my favorite. Steak fajitas and my mom had a birria ramen. What amazed me was that we got there as the 3rd last table and we only had about 30 mins before closing. This place has Amazing Food. I ate every day of my 4 day stay in Carlsbad. The steak is marinated to soft, juicy perfection. Everything from beans, tortillas, and even the pineapple habanero hot sauce is hand made on site. This is our first visit under the new management. We were there at lunch time middle of the week. Not very busy. Service was good. We both ordered enchiladas. Her's was supposed to be shredded chicken with red sauce, me shredded beef with green sauce. Terrible experience at Tortilla Mia in downtown Carlsbad Village. We had family in town, 4 adults and 3 (well behaved) kids. We called in reservations for 7pm Saturday because we knew they would most likely be busy. Our family arrived at 6:30pm since they were close enough to walk. After checking in, they found the table wouldn't be ready until 7pm, and that was fine because we arrived 10min. before 7pm anyways. 7pm passes and the hostess has been staring right at us off an on for some time. My bf's cousin goes to ask how much longer, she says "oh, do you have reservations?" And he continued to say he JUST checked in 30+ minutes ago and she stated the table won't be ready until 7pm. She then had a hard time "finding" the reservation that she already checked him in with. BAD start, but they were so tired from a long day at the beach and we were all hungry.. we bit our tongue and just got sat. Where were we seated? Smack dab right in the middle of the floor area when you enter. I didnt like that location as the back of my chair was right up against the poor person's stool who was sitting at the bar, but again I was hungry and didnt care. We ordered 3 micheladas and a mai tai for myself. 2 micheladas were as pictured in the menu (big goblet style glass) and the 3rd one given to his cousin was in a pint glass. It had no garnish and no tajin rim. He was nice about it and asked the server about this... no apology, just takes the drink disappears and reappears in a pint glass with garnish. We then ordered our meal. Queso with chips for appetizer, birria tacos for my bf, chicken and carne asada tacos for the kids, and veggie enchilada for his cousins wife and his cousin ordered chimichanga appetizer for his entree. After 30min...the queso and chips came out. After an HOUR yes an HOUR of waiting... his chimichanga came out. No other food... after an HOUR and 20min? Everyone else's food came out, and he was already done eating. One of the kids got the wrong tacos...so his mom flagged down the person that delivered and he just looked confused then went back to grab a new order of PLAIN chicken tacos. We didnt have the energy to complain and we were so mad we just didn't get up and leave earlier. This place is a joke. I remember coming here a LONG time ago, as Las Olas, and it was amazing! This is why I recommended it to family. Instead I embarrassed myself for ever mentioning this place. Before you say "oh they must have been busy, it's Saturday by the beach" keep in mind all the parties, big and small, around us...were sat, fed, paid..and they left before we even got our food. Make that make sense? You can't, because this place dropped the ball. In the end, we were unhappy eating our cold and late to arrive food, we were flabbergasted that no apology for the wait or mention of it was adddressed by our server or anyone. We saw what may have been a manager talking with patrons throughout the restaurant, and im sure he noticed us waiting for that long period of time with no food...if that WAS a manager...shame on you for not checking on us. We will never come back here. As a 38yr Cbad village native, I will NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone, and if I hear anyone planning to go there... I will recommend they go somewhere else. I visited the restaurant during the weekday. It was nice because it was not busy and was seated right away. Whenever I'm passing by this place it is packed. I was greeted right away and was able to select where I wanted to sit. I opted to sit in the covered patio in front. The restaurant has an open space feel with a good breeze. The lemon martini was good, strong which I like, with great lemon flavor, goes well with the sugared rim. Before my food arrived I was served a bowl of tortilla chips with some salsa. The chips were good, light and crunchy. First my cup of albondigas arrived. It was a pretty good serving size with 2 meatballs and light on the veggies. Flavorful, but I should've asked for some cilantro to add in. The fish taco arrived and the presentation didn't grab my attention. You're probably thinking fish taco presentation ? I have ordered fish tacos and when they arrived to the table, I could say, that looks delicious. So this taco was ok. I wasn't a fan of the quartered cherry tomatoes. I think I would try something else on the menu on my next visit My to go orders of fresh tortillas were ok. I will pass on ordering next time. Customer service was excellent. Really bad service this time. Only 4 tables sat in the whole restaurant. My family of 4 sat at the front long table and the bartender was our server. Totally understand he has a lot to do. He grabbed our drinks and chips n salsa so we were happy. The issue came when we ordered our food and I asked if I could have cheese melted on my rice he said no, but I have ordered this before with no issue. Then I ordered dinner for my child and I asked for double rice no beans, my child does not like beans and he charged me an extra $3.00 for this? Again I have done this with no problem. My family of 4 comes here often enough, we are locals and that was horrible. Really said to say but not sure we'll be back. Our waiter was primarily the bartender, and he did an excellent job following up on our needs. I recommend the mole enchiladas!! so delicious!!! the guava margarita was so good as well, and they are definitely heavy handed pourers there which is always a win lol. The service was fast and efficient as our server was very kind. The restaurant was very cute and was a perfect spot to watch the fifa soccer games. We also tried the steak nachos. If you love beans and cheese, you will enjoy the nachos. Sadly, not much steak on the nachos. The pieces of steak we did get tasted like pieces of trimmings that were small and overcooked. The portion size of the nachos was big, just not much steak. Overall, just ok for me.
