Lol at the people ordering MIXED DRINKS and giving this place one star. This bar is a D-I-V-E through and through. Adjust your expectations (and drink order) accordingly and you'll have a great time. It's everything a dive should be. DISRESPECTFUL & RUDE SECURITY Reading the reviews, we just had a similar experience... Security took a valid out of state (AZ) drivers license and almost snapped it, had us wait 20 minutes while they called police to verify. While waiting on sidewalk, another security guard cut me off walking to trash can to put out his cigarette butt. WhenI attempted to get out of his way he mocked me with his motions and words. When I questioned why he mocked me, he continued to be rude. Been to Boar Cross'n several times now, and I have to say it's one of my favorite places to stop in Carlsbad. They have extremely reasonably priced drinks. It has always been quite packed every time we stop by, but that doesn't deter us from going. We have had some negative experiences at several other bars in the area, but this one has treated us quite well. Love the pool tables, outdoor area, and accessible bar. I give it a 3 and that's because I'm not too young anymore and this fits me as just to come in and have just one drink. I needed to get out and enjoy the night and we came here. The bartender was not nice or friendly at all. I was asking if she can make me a mixed drink that's not too dry or too sweat and she said idk what do you want? Like hmmm... so I just ordered whatever. It was not crowded and the whole inside was remodeled more like a dive bar than what it was before. Another weekend in Carlsbad meant another stop or two (or three) into Boar Cross'n. The Jekyll and Hyde of bars. Excellent local drinking hole for the older crowd and locals by day, thumpin' and pumpin' nightclub by night. Killer happy hour even on weekends! My buddy and I stopped in for beers and found seats at the (dog friendly) patio bar. We were promptly greeted by a smiling and friendly Bella. Bella is a stellar bartender and she is as friendly and personable as she is gorgeous. My buddy and I hung out for a few beers then headed out. By the time we were rolling out, the younger nightclub crowd were rolling in. It was like a shift change. Fun place, great beer and cocktail prices, cool people, great time! read more

Disrespectful Immature Bartender!!! My sister recently visited this bar with her two friends who came to visit her in town. My sister is 22 and her friends are both about to turn 22. The bartender looked over my sister's ID for a good 5 minutes and said he wouldn't accept it nor her friends' IDs, almost snapping her ID at one point. Her friend even had her passport but he still wouldnt accept them. They then asked if he could scan them to prove they're real but he said they didn't have a scanner. All three of them have out of state IDs as my sister just moved in the area. The bartender almost didn't give back the IDs until they threatened to call the cops. After being refused service, my sister told her friends "let's just go, i don't want to be here" and the bartender heard this and then yelled at them in front of the whole bar "You don't want to be here? Then leave!" leaving my sister in tears. My sister is supposed to be celebrating graduating college and having her best friends visit her but instead her night was tarnished by this bartender i wish i had the name. It is extremely unprofessional and embarrassing to scream at customers just because they look good for their age and they decide to leave when you deny service so you humiliate them. It is so immature to the point where I'd like to check his id since he wants to act like that at his big age. Let me first say this. $10 Cover? Really? Okay. Came here because of some friends who says the DJ plays good music. Indeed the DJ on 12/15/17 did play SOME good music and the dance floor is huge to dance with my girlfriends and not be rubbing shoulders with people. That's definitely a plus. Lots of pool tables, chairs and high tops around the bar. The drinks are priced okay but I will say that the bartender was a bit unfriendly. I get it, I used to be a bartender and some people can be annoying. But she just did not put a smile on her face. Overall, I'd return again when I'm with a group but this is definitely not a place I'd go without friends. read more

A friend and I came in here on a Saturday evening at around 7pm. There was about 7 people sitting at the bar, so not busy at all. You would think that the service would be a little faster with nearly no one in there but boy were we wrong. We were attracted by the pool tables and went over to play and quickly realized that we needed 4 quarters. So my friend, headed over to the bar, still with only seven people there, and she waited there for at least 15 minutes. The bartender was talking to other patrons, even though he saw her ask for help and he told her to wait. Once we got the coins and put them in the machine, none of the pool balls came out. We were up to the bar again and asked for help. The bartender gave us a look of distain and informed us we needed to flag down the security guard. So we had to go to another section of the bar and find the security guard who eventually helped us out. About midway through playing the white pool ball got stuck in the machine, so we asked for help again and had to track down the security guard again. Multiple other people came up to us and asked if we knew how to work the tables. When the ball got stuck for a third time we decided to leave. When we went to settle our tab of one drink, the bartender made eye contact with us and then continue to help several other guests before helping us settle our tab. It appeared that he was prioritizing serving and talking to the men sitting around the bar, and wasn't interested in helping us even after we waited our turn. WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Come here if you want to be treated like garbage. I just moved here a few weeks ago and my friends from out of state came to visit me. I am 22, my friends are both 21 about to turn 22, and the bartender wouldn't take our ID's. These are REAL state issues Washington driver's licenses. The bartender took my license and looked over it for 5 minutes, almost snapping it in half at one point. He shook his head and said he wouldn't serve us because he thought ours were fake. One of my friends even had her passport and he still wouldn't serve us. At this point I was so upset and on the verge of tears that I told my friend "let's just go, I don't want to be here". The bartender heard that and yelled at us in front of anyone "You don't wanna be here? Then leave!" We were absolutely humiliated and he almost didn't give our ID's back. Crazy how I'm a 22 year old with a full LEGAL ID and this dude still wouldn't serve me a drink simply because of my looks. I wish I had better news to share. This place used to be the spot. Now, every time I go, their 21 year-old bouncer looks at my out of state ID and says "do you have another form of ID?" and I say yes and then he looks at my military ID like he's never seen one before. And then he looks at me like I have three heads. And then he calls someone else over to look at my TWO forms of ID before deciding that he will be generous and let me in. Sorry for the lengthy review but I think this needs to said. I've been to this bar for a few years now. The atmosphere is nice. This is one of the few bars in Carlsbad with pool tables which is why my friends and I used to come here. Most of the staff are good too. But the service from the bartender named "Sunshine" , an older lady with blonde hair, is atrocious. The first few times we came thought we caught her on a bad night but now I know this is normal behavior. Sunshine refuses to smile on the job, actually she seems to glare at patrons. When ordering drinks we usually have to repeat ourselves multiple times and she often still messes up the order. She's mis charged me multiple times and sometimes gives me another persons bill and is confrontational when I explain the mix up to her. She's probably the stingiest bartender in all of Carlsbad too, so much so that I only ever order beers when she's working to avoid the overpriced watered-down mixed drinks she makes. My friends and I try our best not to order from her because she takes forever to come back for another round, one time I spent 20 minutes trying to get my check for the night. Probably the worst of all though is her attitude. I don't want to characterize her as a person, she could be nice and friendly outside of work, but on the job she is insufferable. Impatient, confrontational, and overall just uncomfortable to be around - so much so people I know often turn around and leave the bar if they see her working! It's really a bummer too because most of the staff there are nice and the pool tables are awesome, but her presence makes going there not worth it, especially since the staff at other bars in the area are so nice and and friendly. Management please consider finding another bartender, many people have told me she's the reason they don't go to Boars anymore! read more
