I checked out Jazzy Wishbone for the first time, and overall, it was an okay experience. The atmosphere was nice, and I'm always willing to try somewhere new, especially when there's live jazz and comedy. That said, I was a little disappointed to find out that even with a reserved table, there's a $30 minimum if you want to stay for the jazz, and a $25 minimum for the comedy. I understand businesses have minimums, but personally, I prefer places where I can come in, relax, listen to the music, and decide what I want to spend without feeling pressured--especially when I'm experiencing a band or comedian for the first time and don't know what to expect. The waitress was okay, although there were a few assumptions made during my visit that I didn't feel were appropriate. I'm glad I checked it out and experienced it for myself. It just probably isn't somewhere I'll return to. I'm looking for more of a laid-back, come-as-you-are kind of spot where I can enjoy the entertainment without feeling obligated to meet a spending minimum. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! We loved this place! We were in town and wanted a cool chill spot for the night after a day of being out. My husband found this place and was interested because of the live music and it being a jazz place. We ubered there which seemed smart because it's street parking and seemed quite limited. There's a $5 cover on Fridays and Saturdays (I think they have live music both days) and we did not have a reservation. I think if you have a reservation you can get a table in their back area. We were up front with the band. It's a pretty small place, maybe about 5 or 6 high top tables in the front, the bar toward the back, and that back room which we didn't look in. We cozied up until someone left a high top and then hung out there. We ordered some drinks that were specials for the night and some that were regularly on the menu. We had a great time! Drinks were good, I think also reasonably priced. Music went from 7pm to 10pm and we got there around 7:30 and it was good and busy! This definitely feels like a family joint, their mascot is their little chihuahua Wishbone and I love that so much. Owners were fun, kept things going while the band was on break, just overall a really good time. I'm not much of a drinker so I can't speak to the types of liquor, but I definitely was feeling my drinks and couldn't finish my 3rd. If we lived here I think this would become a regular spot for us. Come for the music and vibe. Food is standard bar type food with average prices, but nothing extraordinary. Cocktail seemed to be watered down. Better off ordering a kombucha which comes in a can. Water is bottled. Service is too attentive when you first arrive then seems to disappear once you have been served. Really a 3.5. NOTE: if you make a reservation they charge $5 per person cover plus you must spend $30 per person. Also they taxed the cover which is inappropriate. read more

Love this place! A great place to chill and listen to some jazz. It's a mom-and-pop joint in the true sense of the word. Owned by a lovely and friendly couple. Mom serves the food and pop runs the bar. It's a very cozy and intimate place to listen to jazz. On our visit there was a trio playing. Being a small place it's intimate and we got to meet the band members during the break. The trio did a set and after a short break it was a jam session. Several other musicians arrived, and it was a great session. Some points to note. It's a small venue and great for a trio but with the jam session it got quite crowded, though in a good way in my opinion. Lots of interaction between the audience and musicians. Also, with only mom and pop working, service can get a little slow. They are known for their cocktails, and they are very good. Also, a selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Wine also. That said, there appears to be a discrepancy between what is promoted as top-shelf liquor and what is actually being poured, based on both my experience and comments from other patrons. I will share these concerns with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) If you look behind the bar, you will see a glass bottle with a Tito's sweater. It's NOT Tito's. Nor is the bottle a Tito's bottle. Every time we have been there, it appears to be very busy, so I don't see the reasoning here. I hope greed doesn't get this place shut down. Don't take my evaluation as gospel. Go check it out. 5 star establishment, 0 stars for being greedy, especially when the people are willing to pay. My husband and I were having a date night in the Del Mar area on a recent Saturday night but were (somehow) struggling to find live music nearby so we headed back to Oceanside where we live and decided to check out The Jazzy Wishbone. We used to frequent this little cluster of storefronts many years ago when Bessie's 1929 Cafe was still open (RIP) and we've watched various new businesses come in and out since then. When we drove past on our way to find parking, we noticed it looked packed inside so we almost decided not to even try, but changed our minds once we found easy parking, ready to move onto a Plan B if it was a bust. Fortunately when we shimmied in there was a two-top that had just opened up, so we snagged it. The inside is TINY (mostly narrow), and was filled wall-to-wall with patrons enjoying the live jazz band that was performing. My husband grabbed us a drink at the bar and we sat back to enjoy the tunes. Drink prices were standard/reasonable, and there was a pretty good offering of food but having just come from dinner we didn't order anything this time around. I was amazed to realize right away that the ensemble performing looked incredibly young and I learned from speaking with one of the people sitting nearby that they ranged in age from 14 to 17 years old, and they were all so talented! I believe they hail from Young Lions Jazz Conservatory, a local nonprofit that is dedicated to fostering the appreciation and development of jazz in young musicians. My husband and I had previously had every intention of just stopping into The Jazzy Wishbone for a brief time before moving on, but we both agreed to just finish out the night there because we were having such a great time. As the musicians finished their set and the night drew to a close, my husband and I both agreed this will be one of our go-to places going forward because we had such a fabulous time. Took a shot in the dark to visit and was not disappointed, but amazed! This is a small boutique jazz bar with great live music, but actually so much more as well--the food was top notch, we enjoyed the Parmesan fries and wings and Mac/cheese before a veggie flatbread and a loaded brat, and the craft cocktails were complemented well by it all, I don't know how they do it with such a small kitchen and staff and not a lot of people eating, but wow, 10/10 for bar food, 8/10 as a restaurant with a bigger menu than you might expect. Owner Susie and hostess Charlotte and all around server/bartender/host MJ are awesome, friendly,welcoming, and appreciative. Drinks also were great. But the music--superlative! A bunch of different players and vocalists, including one from the audience, and the music was fantastic, such a great vibe. My neck is sore from bopping to the beats. Gonna have a party here for sure, they do special events and even have comedy on Thursdays, in a separate event room in back that is great for groups. Cannot recommend this place highly enuf. Let's start with, I am very picky about the food I put in my body as well as restaurant and clubs in general. I was in the biz for many of my younger years and they have a winner here. My girlfriend and I (older) decided to check out this new Jazz Club, Jazzy Wishbone, so we trotted (drove) on over on a Saturday night around 6, got a great seat and the owner Tim took great care of us, along with the other servers. We hadn't eaten so Tim suggested the Salmon for me and for my friend the Shrimp pasta. The Salmon was "Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon" for those of you, like me that don't eat farm raised! The chef, Eric did a great job cooking it too (can't eat over cooked fish, it was perfect) along with the asparagus and FF (subbed for rice). My friend said the Shrimp Pasta was awesome too, I didn't get to try it though (GF, lol). What I really couldn't believe is the price was $19.95 ea. WOW Oh, and I don't want to forget the wings we had as an appetizer; they too were excellent!!! This was a full meal experience, I wasn't expecting! Now for the music, it was great, we really enjoyed the band, you could sit and listen or get up and boogie. The Wishbone is a smaller venue, but that's half of its charm. However not so small when you go out back on your way past the cute bar area to the open area with huge TV, comfortable seating and an avocado tree hanging over you, how much better can it get than that. Just bring me a masher a few diced tomatoes, onion, some cilantro and voila Guacamole. Oh yeah, they already sell it there. LOL We will definitely go back, probably on a weekday, this time! Went last night for dinner and drinks. There was a lovely reggae band playing, that we will now be going to see again on Monday!! So, 5 stars for introducing us to some new cool bands! The space is cozy and you have to physically walk through the band to get in. Food was ok, but we weren't there specifically for the food, so we were happy. Lots of choices and reasonable prices. The drinks were also reasonably priced and in alignment with other establishments nearby. There is a nice bar area and a large patio area in the back if you want to talk in a quieter place. During the set break, we were talking to some of the people who had reserved tables near the band, and we heard that the owner had actually asked the current band, Sol Remedy, to not come at the last minute because the band supposed to play the next day, had accidentally gotten their dates confused. NOT cool, Jazzy Wishbone. I hope the owner paid these young musicians double to make up for the rudeness. read more
