Wish they would serve Stella Artois but Corona will do.

I was introduced to this dive bar by a friend and it's one of my favorite places to hang out and have a cold one or two. Very friendly atmosphere. Lori is a wonderful bartender. She makes me feel welcome. After 3 months of not being here due to COVID-19 shut down it was so great to be here.

Let it be known to the world that my daughter Casey has dibs on this photo! Tell em DC!

Best Dive Bar on the PLANET! DC is a gem and the bartenders are attentive and efficient. Best of all though, are the unique cast of local character drunks who frequent it! Myself included! This place otta be a TV reality show!

When it comes to sports bars, Oceanside, California has many for local patrons to enjoy…read more One of the better destinations is also the oldest sports bar known as the Red Rooster. Red Rooster sports bar has been serving the community of Oceanside for over 60 years. Even though they recently had a change of ownership, the new owners are also local and they left local management in charge. This effectively means that nothing has changed, and they are still providing some of the best bar, food and ambience, as well as drinks! They just cleaned up the bathrooms and a little bit of the interior decor. When it comes to food, the Red Rooster is known for their famous Rooster Burger. This burger is legendary within the community. I also love their crispy fries that are well seasoned. More recently, they have also added $.69 chicken wings on Wednesdays. This deal is available with the purchase of a beer. They also have cider available as well. Although they have a few basic flavors on their regular chicken wing menu, on Wednesdays, they add a lot more flavors to the special. These sauce, flavors alternate weekly, and it adds a nice variety. Most recently, I enjoyed the teriyaki, the bourbon bbq, honey mustard, general tso and my favorite is the lemon pepper. The interior looks much like a divey sports bar, equipped with one pool table and a few high-table seating available. There is also a backyard seating area with a fire pit, that is also fenced off. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the Red Rooster at least once to experience their burger, their chicken wings, and a small piece of historic Oceanside vibes.

Saw the cans when we left. The burgers were fantastic as were the onion rings. The bar tender also cooks the food. Don't be in a rush as the order took over 20 minutes but worth the wait. 2 burgers, onion rings and 2 Modelos came to$50 without a tip. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

There seems to be a good number of regulars and they are always friendly and happy to chat. I also love that the bartenders (I would only do this on nights that aren't super busy) are able and willing to create drinks for you based on your preferences.

My husband and I stopped in to Frankie's on a recent Saturday at 5pm. Our kiddo had a performance down the street at 6pm so we had a little time to kill beforehand. The neighboring spots looked busy so we decided to go with Frankie's, seeing as they were less inundated at the time and we had a time constraint. Another allure was the sandwich board at the front door advertising discounted cocktails - sold!! Inside there were a handful of patrons at the bar, another table with two additional patrons and maybe a couple on the patio so it was fairly quiet and slow, so it looked promising. We headed up to the bar and hung out behind two empty barstools, the single female bartender greeted us and said she'd be right with us, but then continued chatting up the seated patrons, serving them and their friends that had just joined (AFTER we'd arrived). We moved a little further down to the handoff area where she was making drinks to save her having to come back to us again, and stood there for probably 10 minutes while she took orders and made all the drinks. We commented that she looked like she could definitely use a hand, and she said they were still adjusting into summer hours and determining whether more coverage was needed at this time - I figured 5pm on a Saturday should be primetime, so I'm not sure in what universe having a single bartender makes any sense. Finally we placed our cocktail orders, waited while they were made, and then put our card down for the tab. After we'd paid, I noticed the cocktails were more expensive than advertised on the sandwich board out front - I couldn't find a disclaimer anywhere that said only certain cocktails were included, so while it was a bummer I wasn't about to wait another 10-15 minutes to catch her attention and ask for clarification. Just a heads up to beware of whatever is advertised that might summon you in from the sidewalk, and make sure you ask before you make your selection. Drinks were very subpar, nothing special to write home about. While I can appreciate the Gatsby-esque vibe they're trying to uphold at Frankie's, they really should increase their staffing especially during prime weekend and evening hours, and be more transparent about their specials and what's included and what's not. Hindsight is 20/20, and the low volume of patrons when everything else around it was going off was probably a sign, so we'll skip Frankie's our next go around.

We visit at least once a month with friends from the nearby climbing gym, and always with our 6-year-old in tow who LOVES this place thanks to all the games there are to play. My favorite go-to menu item is the crunch wrap with carne asada - it's large so my husband and I usually split it. Their salsa is bomb, too (especially the green). We've also had some of their burgers, tacos, and our daughter always gets a personal pizza. The personal pizza scenario is the only thing I have beef with here - you get a 7" plain cheese pizza for $12, and you can add a max of 3 toppings which cost extra, so in the end our kid's food is more expensive than ours. Hey Fat Joe's - pleeeease considering adding a small pizza to the kid's menu and price it closer to the other $7 and $8 items!! The interior walls of Fat Joe's are decorated with art and murals of all the most important and beloved features of our city. The bartenders are friendly and efficient - drinks are poured/mixed and handed off quickly, and food arrives at your table shortly after. Bathrooms are always well-stocked and clean. Parking is pretty much limited to street parking and while it is limited, we've never had an issue finding a spot nearby. Finding solid family-friendly spots can be in short supply, but Fat Joe's hits all my criteria and remains one of our favorite spots to eat and spend time together.

I call my husband Wimpy because he is a burger connoisseur and he said he thinks it was in the top 10 of burgers he has had in his lifetime and he has had some good ones!
