Made a last second stop at Maxdon's on New Year's Eve and it turned out to be a great choice. They have a solid setup with a few pool tables, a bar area, and plenty of space to sit, hang out, and enjoy drinks. Definitely helped make NYE a memorable one. read more

Playing pool is one of my go to do instead of just sitting at a bar and drinking. The place was pretty big with PLENTY of pool tables. They do over happy hours specials and have a small food menu. I didn't order any food this time around. Next time. They staff where friendly and the ambience was great. We played like 3 games. Place was clean and welcoming. Maxdon's was incredibly accommodating and easy to work with to organize hosting the after party for my friend's wedding. There are plenty of hightop tables, pool tables, and standard 4-seat tables around the game/music area. Although the kitchen was closed, the servers we friendly and quick with our drinks. Vicky made great drinks and was fun to chat with! Wish we could've kept the party going but the team kindly closed up at the end of the night, without being pushy. Pro tip: if you're going to be here late, you can DoorDash food to the parking lot! read more

I've been to Maxdon's several times over the many years they've been open (both locations). It's a good place for a decent drink and a great place to play pool since there aren't many places with pool tables. It can get very crowded and very loud, but it's a bar, that's to be expected. First time going to this bar and I went with my friend. We wanted to play pool because from the looks of their website there were many tables to play. I wanted to order a drink and waited 15 minutes at the bar for a bartender to hear me (practically had to scream for service) just for them to rudely ask "are you paying your tab? Where's your card? -- "Make it quick because we are closing the bar in 10 minutes". I asked another bartender-an older lady with deep red hair who wasn't busy what the rules were to play a game of billiards. She looked at me and said "there's a list, you can't play anymore". At this point I was confused and was evidently asking because I've never been there before and every bar has its policy. I asked a third bartender- a young guy with braces what the rules were and how we could get the pool balls to play a game. He told me, "there's a list and you need to put your card down to get the tray of balls to play. Once you have them you need to pay $1.25 at the pool table to start your game. There's a list but you still have time for one game before we close." I told him I don't want to rush or be rushed so we will just try next time. He insisted and told us that there was more than enough time before they close and that the game won't be rushed - as long as the tray of balls are back after the game is finished our card would be returned. He insisted so much even after saying no "it's alright, maybe next time". We just said we'll play one game. We started our game and paid the $1.25. We didn't even get five balls in the pockets when the other bartender (red headed lady) started yelling "its 1am, bring the balls back, bring the trays back, we are closed, get out we are closed." We barely started our game and were already being kicked out. We hadn't even finished our drink, which was on the countertop near our belongings and the lady takes our freshly made drink and pours it down the drain. My friend and I just began shooting all the balls to return the tray and get my debit card back. I couldn't get the balls out because apparently you need to pay to get them out. Then the male bartender came up to us both and said "did you pay to get the balls back?" I said "yes, I paid $1.25 at the beginning like you explained to me". He then aggressively said "I didn't tell you that, I said you need to pay to get them out and return the tray. I didn't see you pay so you need to pay $1.25 right now." I asked him "do you have any cameras? My friend is my witness, she saw me pay and so did the other players. Check your cameras, you'll see that I paid already." He just kept deflecting and saying that he didnt see me pay and that I needed to pay if I wanted my card back and to hurry up because they are closed. Never in my life have I been to a bar that has the absolute rudest people with no sense of class or customer service. I felt like I was in shreks swamp and being yelled at to get out. What an embarrassing establishment. If I were the owner of this establishment, I would hire better people and make major changes to this place. Worst place in oceanside by far! Don't even bother going there, you'll waste your money and time. To put it in simpler terms, I've had a literal crackhead on the street treat me with more respect. How embarrassing! I tried this bar located on Mission Ave. In Oceanside. This was surprisingly a nice place to have a drink, have a bite to eat, watch sports and play pool. I went during the happy hour that had mixed drinks on Tuesday night for $3.75, margaritas, and long islands for $5.00. The tacos were only $1.50 nachos $6.00, hot dogs $1.00. Our bartender for that evening was Jennifer. She had an awesome personality and a customer friendly attitude. We definitely were glad she was around . She cooked our food too, that was delicious. The place is a nice size that had pool tables, big screen tvs and plenty of chairs and tables to enjoy ambiance. I give this place an overall score of 4 stars . I always enjoy coming here to play some pool. The location is clean and there are plenty of pool tables to pick from. They also have a number of great sticks that you can use and there is a shuffle board as well that is usually unoccupied. With that being said we always show up when they open so the few people that are there seem to be the calm regulars. I can imagine throughout the day and night it gets crowded. The staff member there is always nice and they have a variety of alcohol but only 8 beers on tap but still good options. There is plenty of parking and the bathrooms are clean. read more

I thought maxdon's closed down when the pandemic hit as I would never see cars there. I ran into a friend and they said it was indeed still open. So after I went to the bank I noticed a couple cars in front and stopped in. There were a few people hanging out and I grabbed a seat at the bar. While waiting for the bartender to acknowledge me I seen it was the same ol maxdon's . No draft beer, bottle and liquor only. League size pool tables and it's a newer building. Then here came Ms. attitude. Didn't catch her name ( white big boned chick ) After watching her mope around the bar depressed looking I flagging down the bartender. She greeted me with a fake smile and hello. I greeted her back and ordered a bottle beer. Beer came and I paid with cash and she didn't take it. It sat on the bar until I was nearly done with my beer then she snatched it. During this time I just watched this bartender continue to mope around the bar with no interest of being there at all. Most disrespectful service ever. My friends and I walked into the bar and were going to sit at the bar to enjoy our time until Andy the bartender did not want to serve us because of where we wanted to sit. When we walked in my friend being a woman of color felt racially discriminated because she had tried pulling a chair to sit with us and Andy rudely told her she couldn't do that. Andy told us we were in her way so she told us to scoot over. Then she told us we could sit at the table instead and would serve us. For me Maxdon's brought back memories of my glory days playing pool and for my friend Maria it was her first time. We visited Maxdon's twice to see if it's a Hit or Miss. For us we found it to be definite Hit. They have reasonable prices for drinks and pool play. It was very clean, and the restrooms well maintained. They serve food there, but we stuck with mixed drinks. Friendly and helpful staff but could use a couple more to handle the crowds. The patrons were very mindful, respectful and nice. Two visits and both times we didn't come across any rude, loud or drunk people. They also had a good selection of music on the music box and the volume level was just right. There were people of all ages enjoying the place. They have several pool tables and were well lit. You still have to check and wait for a table to open or join in. We were fortunate on both visits to get a table shortly after arriving. The tables looked well maintained but balls still got stuck from time to time. There was plenty of parking all around the pool hall. If you want to have a fun night with your significant other or a group of friends, then this is the place for you. Overall, it's a nice place with good vibes, good people and good fun. Me and Maria plan on making this our go to spot for pool nights. read more

I described what I needed and Melissa is one of those rare bartenders who can call the right drink and make a perfect version. They have a great variety of standard to top shelf spirits. The people were lots of fun. Easy friendly conversation and laughs. I wish this was closer to home but I do a lot of business down here so I'll drop in. Next door is a new Indian restaurant with appetizers and flavored breads that go great with drinks or beer. I was having cocktails but they had about 8 drafts and another dozen bottles. Maxdon's is a quick and easy bar down in the Oceanside area that leads to be one of the dive bars. There hours are great and they always have decent service however the drinks are hit and mess. I've ordered things like Old Fashions, Moscow Mules and their beers on tap, most of which I have mixed better myself. The tap selection however remains pretty true and clear. It's not a huge selection however it is decent, my favorite being the Cali Creamin'. The amount of pool halls are pretty decent, the fact that I can always walk in there without worry of getting a table is great! They are very easy to find and super available. I do really enjoy the entire experience minus a few hiccups I've had here and do plan on coming back. I think it just depends on the bartender. I am willing to try the food though! read more

I'm definitely giving the new Maxdon's a 3.5 compared to their last location. This is a breath of fresh air for real from the location to decor. This new spot is clean, has new pool tables and a cougar as one of the bar tenders even though she is taken. I came during the week and it was pretty slow so that's to be expected but I came on a Friday night and a few bikers from Lakeside were hanging out. I can't believe how much this spot is so much different than the last one. They don't have much local beers but if you want some shots it won't be a problem. I was looking for some food but they only have appetizers like chips and salsa, sliders and wings. I got some pretzel bites which were alright but I don't know if it was worth the price of almost 6 bucks. They have music playing but it's not that loud so you can actually have a conversation. Its an alright spot to play some pool and have a stiff drink. There are about seven very nice size TV's and about ten high tables. I will be back but most likely before 7pm when it starts to get busy. read more

I walked in a week ahead of time and spoke to George about reserving a couple of tables for 12 guys with a Men's Fraternity we just started. Been coming here for about 6 months, and liked this place and until today -- cheap drinks and mostly good bartenders and patrons. However, today, as I was sitting at the bar, there was a man, by himself, saying terrible things about Mexican-Americans (and other races). He wouldn't stop, and he was saying all this to the bartender (slender older woman with long red hair). She encouraged him. I was surprised because she often comes out from behind the bar and hugs up on non-white patrons. I finally asked him to stop his racist remarks, and he began questioning me with "are you American, are you an immigrant?" Then the bartender said to me, "I hate it when people pull the race card, I'm about peace and love, and I don't even see race." Yeah right. I had good experiences with the other bartenders though. I guess it only takes 1 bad apple. read more
