Grubbys is pretty much a staple in carlsbad village... they have recently remodeled and the vibe is pretty chill. Love the outdoor patio in the back and the food is always fresh. They have a couple of TVs and good specials on game days. Worth a visit!

Good late night taco run! Very interesting restaurant set up, they have a nice dinning room and a full bar in the patio. We decide to sit at the bar and ordered a few their most popular tacos with beer on tap. The condiment bar has different types of fresh made salsa, and let me say, when they say spicy, they mean it!

BURRITO-CENTRIC SURF SHACK! It's a tradition for my family and I to visit Señor Grubby's after a trip to the Carlsbad village. We found some parking a couple blocks away and walked on over to Grubby's for a bite. I ordered my classic California burrito which is filled with carne asada, fries, etc. I was absolutely thrilled and enjoyed my main course. Unfortunately, there was a few major errors during this trip. First, my Mom's order was completely wrong. The young lady at the front took her order and it went through one ear and out the other. My Mom was disappointed, so this put a damper on the experience. Additionally, I ordered a vegan chorizo taco on the side to sample their new menu items. We didn't like the mushy texture of the "soyrizo" nor the flavor. It was a misfire and I wouldn't recommend it. Tortillas are not made in-house and salsa was a little mid. The ambiance was very chill inside, whereas the outdoor patio (which comes equipped with a bar) was loud and full of kids running around. We much prefer eating indoors, I personally love the music inside Grubby's and seeing the Padres representation. Imagine rocking out, listening to Harry Styles, and vibing to spacey tunes while eating a burrito. LOVE IT! The surf shack floors and decor honor the relaxed nature of Carlsbad. Overall, I love this place, I really hope they work out the kinks.

Señor Grubby's is exactly the kind of laid-back beach spot you hope to find when you're in Carlsbad. The atmosphere is fun, casual, and perfectly coastal--one of those places where you can relax, grab a drink, and settle in for some great food. The standout for me was the pico de gallo. It tasted incredibly fresh--bright, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. It added the perfect punch to everything we ordered. Between the vibrant beachy vibe, friendly service, and fresh flavors, Señor Grubby's is an easy stop if you're in the area and craving great Mexican food in a fun setting. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when visiting Carlsbad.

My friend and I went on a beach stroll and grabbed a bite to eat here. We both got vegan tacos, and they were delicious. They also have fresh pickled carrots that were so tasty. We loved the Soyrizo tacos, Nopales tacos, and French fries. The staff got our food out right away. Our table was a bit sticky, unfortunately, but the food was good, and I like how the shop is decorated.

It been a while since I've been here..... they were celebrating 30 yrs in business... music... giveaways... lot's of people.. the burritos are extra large .... Cook staff are very efficient... Margaritas are just okay...... Some parking in back...

Alright, came here to check out what the buzz was about and was not disappointed. Super cool vibe. Easy to read menu. Plenty of seating and the bar is in the back. Service was friendly and easy. We ordered the ceviche, 3 street tacos plate which comes with rice and beans which hit the spot. Def want to come back during a padre game cause they got specials for game events cause they got bacon wrapped hotdogs that I wanna try out.

Senor Grubby has never be really disappointing but today it was totally awesome :) 4 people at the bar, including my 76 years old mom, had a blast with street tacos. A Huge plus for the shrimp a la diabla taco, mine was perfectly seasoned and very tasteful... My old mom has a blast with the Nopale and grilled fish tacos. I like to seat outside at the bar, there is always a good vibe, great staff, friendly patrons and perfect "beach" vibe even though you can't see the ocean, you feel it! Senor Grubby offers a lot of specials no matter within or outside happy hours. Great place for a quick grub and a good skinny margarita. Make sure you check the salsa bar!

We always make a stop at Senior Grubby's when we're in Carlsbad for vacation. We like the authentic Mexican street food. They have good margaritas, good salsa, and I like their hand pressed corn tortillas. I almost always get their street fish tacos. They use Mahi Mahi and you can get them fried or grilled. I also enjoy their fish burrito, it comes with grilled or beer battered Tilapia and a chipotle cream sauce. I've had the Shrimp Diablo burrito too, it's good if you can handle the spice! We love sitting outside on the back patio. They usually have a game on. Grubby's is casual, great service, and great food!

Awesome little spot just off the beach in Carlsbad, back deck has a chill vibe and the burritos,...good Lord,...the burritos. I'm not an every day burrito guy, and I am from 'back East' so my burrito radar may be questioned but, the shrimp Diablo was the best burrito of my life. If I could, I would probably have it every day of my life. They were a little backed up at the bar so service, while very friendly , was a little slow. This place is great !

Does your outdoor dining have heaters?

    Yes. They do.

Will you be showing the NBA finals?

Yes we will! Hope to see ya! Regular Happy Hour is 3-6, Social Hour is 8-10, and it’s Margarita Monday. :-)

Are they enforcing masks and distancing yet?

We have been the entire time. Please come visit either location.

    Hey Is this open?

Yes, but it is over-rated. I gave it three stars, but I was generous. It is just typical mexican, nothing special, but the price is far more than comparable other places.…

    Do you make papusas?

    We do not.

What gluten free options do you have? And are there any sauces I should stay away from? For example the chipotle sauce..is that gf?

They have gluten free beer along with some meals, just make sure you ask for them! I would try all the sauces, I like 3 out of 5 sauces that they offer! 2 of the sauces are way to sweet for me, the spice is good but just to sweet!

Do you serve Menudo on Sundays?

    No we do not.

My husband and I stopped in to Frankie's on a recent Saturday at 5pm. Our kiddo had a performance down the street at 6pm so we had a little time to kill beforehand. The neighboring spots looked busy so we decided to go with Frankie's, seeing as they were less inundated at the time and we had a time constraint. Another allure was the sandwich board at the front door advertising discounted cocktails - sold!! Inside there were a handful of patrons at the bar, another table with two additional patrons and maybe a couple on the patio so it was fairly quiet and slow, so it looked promising. We headed up to the bar and hung out behind two empty barstools, the single female bartender greeted us and said she'd be right with us, but then continued chatting up the seated patrons, serving them and their friends that had just joined (AFTER we'd arrived). We moved a little further down to the handoff area where she was making drinks to save her having to come back to us again, and stood there for probably 10 minutes while she took orders and made all the drinks. We commented that she looked like she could definitely use a hand, and she said they were still adjusting into summer hours and determining whether more coverage was needed at this time - I figured 5pm on a Saturday should be primetime, so I'm not sure in what universe having a single bartender makes any sense. Finally we placed our cocktail orders, waited while they were made, and then put our card down for the tab. After we'd paid, I noticed the cocktails were more expensive than advertised on the sandwich board out front - I couldn't find a disclaimer anywhere that said only certain cocktails were included, so while it was a bummer I wasn't about to wait another 10-15 minutes to catch her attention and ask for clarification. Just a heads up to beware of whatever is advertised that might summon you in from the sidewalk, and make sure you ask before you make your selection. Drinks were very subpar, nothing special to write home about. While I can appreciate the Gatsby-esque vibe they're trying to uphold at Frankie's, they really should increase their staffing especially during prime weekend and evening hours, and be more transparent about their specials and what's included and what's not. Hindsight is 20/20, and the low volume of patrons when everything else around it was going off was probably a sign, so we'll skip Frankie's our next go around.
