The ladies are always so nice. Food is good, solid American. Country-fried steak or chicken with real mashed potatoes and gravy. Not fancy or pretentious. Good value.

Livers on Wednesday. Rockin! Perfectly fried and we received excellent service. Reasonable lunch prices.

I am sure there is a market for cafeteria style food. This is it, we have not been to the new location (many years since the move). We were going to try uptown wings next door until we walked in and saw the everything menu of wings, Chinese food, burgers and more. Not sure what that was but, we left in favor of eating at Home spun. The restaurant layout design is as if they just piled different stlye tables against the walls for bussing, storage, etc. The menu on chaulk boards on the wall. The food immediately looked very heavy for lunch, and it was. I had the turkey and dressing and it came two sides, I selected of coleslaw and fried okra. It also came with rolls or cornbread, I chose cornbread. She had the vegatable soup with an add on grillled cheese sandwich. Now, looking around the customers appeard to be shall we say, mature ( I am 61 and felt young). I tell you this because the food had little flavor and little to NO seasoning whatsoever. The okra was fried but, also greasy. Very bland and heavy. Our waitress was friendly but, cleary did not speak english and only knew the bare minimum to get by. As another person was trying to explain to her and exclaimed "interpreter please". The food came fairly quick so likley made in bulk and served as ordered. As I eluded to earlier, the place was better than 70 % occupied so there is a market for it. Just not for us.

I don't know why but my taste buds have been in a bad mood lately! Nothing seems to taste as good as it should, or even as good as I remember it last tasting! That being said, Home Spun has never really been that great to me anyway. I first visited this restaurant way back in 2005 when they were in a different location just down the road. A friend of a friend whom ate here all the time brought me for my first visit. I thought the food was okay back then, but I was not in any way motivated to return. Fast forward 13 years and I've passed the new location multiple times. They seem to have a healthy amount of business and I thought to myself: "why not give them another try?" So I did, and guess what? I still thought it was just okay! But in the interest of being a thorough yelper, I came back yet again for a third visit just a few weeks later and guess what? It was still just okay. Back in 2005 I had meatloaf that I would have classified as unremarkable. Can't remember the sides, but they too were nothing I committed to long term memory. On my second recent visit I tried the baked chicken, which I would rate 3.5 stars and the candied yams a 4! However, the creamed corn was highly disappointing, conversely earning it 2 stars. It was so creamy it looked like the porridge I imagine when I think of the story of Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. It was like soupy grits with corn bits mixed in. Still, the baked chicken and candies yams gave me a little confidence to return, hoping for a meal worthy of yelping about! On my last return visit I tried the catfish. I LOVE catfish, but don't particularly like catfish served whole. I would much rather have it as a fillet... but even that doesn't matter to me if it is properly seasoned and nicely cooked. This was not! Topping off the experience were "meh" mashed potatoes and "I could have done without them" sweet potato soufflé. SERVICE Not bad, but not great. I think this is the type of place that puts greater energy into serving their regulars. Everyone else is just extra roughage. NOTE: I was tickled by the hand written menu board with a few misspellings during one visit that no one seemed to notice. FINAL THOUGHTS It's a solid place to get a decent meal if you are looking for substance or if you're the type that "eats to live". Nothing is particularly awful, and nothing is particularly outstanding (at least not that I have sampled). But if you are the "live to eat" type like me, the food here is not going to make you crave multiple visits or give you that "OMG... this is so good" foodgasm experience. 3 stars overall because the pricing is so reasonable you can't really even get mad if you don't like something! 2018/71

Not to be rude, but the owners are Korean and have a funny notion of what "southern home cooked" meals mean. If you lived your culinary life in a school cafeteria then I might give you a pass on that. Southern cooking, while not generally complex, is flavorful and accompanied by good hospitality - two things Home Spun lacked in spades. Slow, inattentive service. Low grade ingredients with a canned food texture and flavor. I really really wanted to support a local restaurant, but this place is far below the threshold for "good".

Great comfort food and friendly service. Hard to find dishes like chicken livers. Good dessert options.

This is just a small place in a strip mall that I found by searching Yelp…read more It is only 15 mins away from Alpharetta and is more than worth the drive. The location was clean, there are only a few tables and bar seats, (no alcohal) there are several TVs playing different things (the guy at the counter turned on the Minecraft movie for my son while we ate!! Super nice. My oldest and I order the Gouda burger... and my youngest ordered the hot dog. All with fries. (Prices seemed a bit high but honestly it was more than worth it!) The food came out pretty fast... and it looked awesome! (See pictures) the Gouda burger has lettuce, tomato, onion, Gouda, bacon, and shoe string potato chips on top of a good sized black angus patty. This was maybe the best burger I have had since I moved to GA! How are people not swarmed all over this establishment eating here! This was amazing! It was "ohhhhhh my Goddie to dam Hottie!!!" The burger was juicy and packed with amazing flavor! The addition of the shoe strings grave it a crunch that I just loved! I didn't even put catchup on it... I ate it as they brought it... nothing added nothing removed. It was phenominal! My son's hit dog was huge.. and loaded with condiments... onion, tomato's, relish on a monster dog. He couldn't finish it. The fries need to be cooked in hotter oil so that they get crispy.. some were kinda crisp some were not and salt the fries! The fries were ok... but the burger more than made up for it! I'm telling you this is burger heaven! If you're looking for the best burger around head on over to the Burger Factory... I know I'm going back to try a different offering soon!

The restaurant wasn't overly crowded -- only a few tables occupied and a handful of people at the bar -- but service was extremely slow from the start. It took about 10 minutes for our server to greet us, and another 10 minutes just to receive waters after ordering them. My boyfriend and I ordered drinks (a Raspberry Collins and a Tropicalia), along with a pretzel for the table. The pretzel was brought out by another server, and when I asked for plates, they never returned with them. I then asked our server for plates, but they still never came. Eventually, I had to ask the host to find our server, and he responded that he would "try." When our server finally came back, I had to ask for plates a third time. Our friend was finally able to order his mixed drink, and we went ahead and ordered our meals as well. The food took nearly an hour to come out, despite the restaurant having very few tables at that point. My boyfriend ordered the Nashville hot chicken, which was extremely oily and lacked flavor. I had the hibachi bowl, which was decent. Before the food arrived, I ordered another Raspberry Collins and more water, which took about 15 minutes and again was not delivered by our server. The one bright spot of the evening was the bartender -- I didn't catch her name, but she was wearing a red Falcons shirt. She personally brought my drink to the table, promptly brought us waters when asked, and even cleaned up our table. Major props to her professionalism and attentiveness, because she was the only person who made us feel taken care of. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we won't be returning. Save your time and money and try somewhere else in downtown Sugar Hill.

We tried. FOOD:…read more The burger sucked. The bread was old and crumbly and then soggy on the inside. The burger didn't fit the description, and it was overall not something that tasted like it came from a place that specializes in burgers. Chicken tenders - these are tough chicken. They're not hot on the inside, and it felt like eating a block of cheese but made of "chicken." With a pretty good digestive system, this meal will be notable on your body. The brain was fine ,- nothing to write home about. The buffalo sauce wasn't saucy enough, so I simply asked for a dipping sauce. Sweet potato fries - they were salty with an oily over-crisp later on the outside. The shape and center (soft, sweet potato flavor) were enjoyable, especially with the sauce. The menu called it Buffalo sauce, but it's more of a barbecue sauce and is not spicy/vinegar-y THE BAR: The bartender was nice, but he doesn't know how to make drinks. His recommendations (or even if we asked about a specific item) were way off par. The "old fashioned" pictured was barely half a shot with water and no cherry. The setup of the bar doesn't quite make sense. It doesn't go all the way around, but in an odd way. Most of the bar seats are in direct line of the cold air from the exit door. The most confusing part is that the tv screen itself is directly above the edge of the bar. So from the seat, you have to look up at an angle to catch game highlights, and it's unlikely you'd be able to watch a full game. AMBIANCE: While the entrance line leading up to order at the bar was not quite obvious, it was large enough to handle a long queue if there were one. The menu in the TV screen was overwhelming, but you can stand in line and read a paper copy. There is tons of seating - mostly four- or six- person tables. As much as I'd come spend time at the Collection, I would make a point to go somewhere else to avoid repeating a visit at Hopdoddy.
