This review is so long overdue. We first visited Antebellum shortly after we moved to Gainesville 6 years ago, and it immediately became our favorite restaurant in the area. It's by far the best! The two owners, Nick and Alison, are the reason for this. They have incredibly high standards and that's reflected in every dish - from the ingredients to the presentation. Every time, we get appetizers, entrees, and dessert (because it's all so delicious), and their cocktail menu just keeps getting better and better. It's been solid since our first visit, but over the past year they tripled the size and elevated the menu so much we think Antebellum now rivals the best cocktail spots in Atlanta! If you live in the area and haven't yet been, or if you're visiting, make a reservation - and be sure to order appetizers, mains, and dessert (and of course cocktails). We have missed our favorite restaurant since moving to Mobile. Looking forward to moving back soon. I am super stingy with 5 stars yet Antebellum and Chef Nick & Alison always earn it. Tonight was no exception, we had reservations for 6pm on a Saturday, Alison seated us right away and Charis was over quickly to greet us and take our drink order. We had another couple with us tonight. We ordered the Butter Lettuce salads, and they had fried green tomatoes. The salads, fresh ingredients, it makes all the difference, loved the salads, our guests loved the fried green tomatoes. Next, she had Halibut and I had Braised Beef, our guest had the beef tenderloin, and he had Halibut as well. My wife loved her halibut I the braised beef was amazing; the flavors were phenomenal and cooked perfectly. Last we shared a slice of Gayle's Strawberry cake with a scoop of ice cream just wow, so lite and airy and full of strawberry flavor. A perfect end to a perfect meal. If you have not been, you are missing out. As if this were not enough, Chef Nick came out to our table and visited for a bit. Such a pleasure to talk to and visit. One of my favorite places. The food is always fresh and paired so well. We were celebrating a birthday so we made reservations. We were seated at arrival. Such a beautiful atmosphere. It has elegant lighting and beautiful decor. For our appetizer, we got the pimento cheese. They give you two pieces. It is always excellent. I enjoy taking one home for later. Came for a work Christmas party. Everything was great. The service was friendly and informative. 1 server handled our party of 11 and she made it look easy. She made recommendations based on questions people had about the menu. Food was cooked perfectly. We all shared the fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese and crab cakes. The crab cake is not like what you normally see, but it was good. A few of us ordered the salmon and I know I loved mine. I also had the creme brulee and it was good. There was a side item with it that I wasn't a fan of, so I just didn't use it. It was like an applesauce. It just didn't go, in my opinion. We absolutely loved our date night at Antebellum. I was able to get a last minute reservation when I called, but we ended up sitting at the bar. The service was excellent. We started off with the barrel aged old fashioned and lavender lady. The old fashioned was great. I saw them making espresso martinis and those looked good too. They have an excellent wine list and we enjoyed our bottle of the Saldo. We decided to try all their classics since it was our first time in. We started off with the fried green tomatoes. Hubby loved the bacon jam and I also liked the mimosa ice palate cleanser. The egg with the fried green tomato was great. We got the shrimp & grits along with the salmon for our entree. 10/10 highly recommend!! We came in on a Friday evening around 7. We had a reservation but it wasn't necessary that night. I would make one on Open Table just to be safe! You have to get the pimento cheese appetizer. Probably the best pimento cheese & bread combination I've ever had! Definitely worth it. My fiancé ordered the salmon (they said this is a year round dish) and I ordered the beef Bolognese with goat cheese. Both of the dishes were so delicious!! We can't wait to come back and try more dishes! We did make room for some dessert, the banana pudding cake, and we were so glad we did! Nothing compares to NJ restaurants, but this restaurant surprised both of us, as we recently moved from NJ and we are exploring the food scene here. This is a romantic cozy southern restaurant. This may be our place for special occasions. Shared a baked brie appetizer. We split a salad. Instead of bread, we were served baked corn bread with jam. My husband had shrimp & grits. I had bolaganese & gnocchi with goat cheese & sweet peppers. Pecan tart and red velvet for desert. We had red wine. We didn't try any cocktails, but there is an excellent selection of drinks if thats your things . The taste suites the high prices, for us. We enjoyed dinner a week before Christmas. The downtown decorated added to the holiday vibes. It was a great night out. Our waiter was extremely friendly and explained the menu and history of the restaurant well, since we were newbies. We came here for date night and a friend's birthday! The food is always delicious! The fact that they don't use seed oils, you can tell the difference in how you feel after you eat there. Our waiter bragged without irony that everything on the menu is good, and hot damn was he right and perhaps understated! Literally everything our party tried was a piece of culinary art in presentation and flavor that were plate-licking good (which I had to stop myself from doing because it's a classy place). The appetizers are a good sharable portion for two people although the delicious fried green tomatoes are not an exercise in elegance when you cut into it. The entrees and desserts were just heavenly and everything I would want from an upscale local place, and the service was top-notch! Making reservations for this place requires a credit card on OpenTable because of the small size of the restaurant, so prepare to commit. Honestly, the only negative I have for this place is that they don't keep their menu on their website up to date with the seasonal changes (as I discovered when captioning my photos), which may make it difficult to see when it changes. My husband and I have gone to Antebellum for our birthdays and our wedding Anniversaries for about the past 5 years. It's always been very nice and so we've kept going back for some of our special occasions. Yesterday, after making a reservation and requesting a special table, (which we didn't get, but went unoccupied the whole time we were there and even when we left), we had the most bland food. It was tasteless and barely warm. My husband's onion-soup appetizer was the equivalent of milk with onion flavoring. (He is not a picky eater.) I had to send my Salmon entrée back to be warmed, it was barely room temperature. (I was hoping that the Salmon would be cooked as the medium-well, that I had ordered. ) Unfortunately, it came back the same way it started. The Beef Bolognese entrée my husband ordered was hot, but tasteless. We only ate part of all of it. Then we ordered a dessert, thinking it had to be better, but the cake was very dry. We left hungry and out $150.00. The only positive thing was the complimentary glass of Champagne and the waiter was pleasant. Except, it was his job to make sure that we were satisfied, but ultimately did not. Very disappointing. We won't be back. read more

What a hidden gem! My husband and I came here for dinner last night and our dining experience was 5 stars from the moment we walked in. The martinis were outstanding. Their wine list has a lot of great choices as well. We started off with one of their staple dishes, fried green tomatoes. They didn't disappoint. I had the pan seared scallops in a sweet pea and corn Rissioto and my husband had the shrimp and grits. We polished off both our dishes. We ended our meal with the Jack Daniel's Bread Pudding and an espresso martini. Both were delicious. Their menu changes seasonal and I did notice their online menu was different than what I saw when I went there. The restaurant is small so do make reservations. There is also plenty of parking. The service was outstanding. From the host to our server to all the other servers who swung by and picked up our dishes. Very pleasant. Great spot for a nice dinner and cocktails. The reviews were very mixed and this was the first time I had been out with this sweet woman. The food quality is extremely lacking. Ordered the scallops and I have bigger buttons on my coat and there was very few of them. The taste was a phenomenal but for the price that they were charging I would not go back. They're way too proud of their reputation it's loud you can't talk and I was not impressed. Sometimes you try to make too much money on a client and that was the case in this particular scenario. But if you don't care about quantity and quality over taste there's chef is very good. It's just up to you what you like. But if I feel like I'm getting overcharged then I won't be back. read more

She also came by often to check on us and clean up our table once we were done with each plate. She also set up our table replacing our silverware when we done with a dish. The food at Antebellum was exquisite. I ordered the braised beef bolognese with gnocchi which was delicious considering it was my first time eating gnocchi. My boyfriend ordered the Hopewell Farms Grilled Pork Loin which melted like butter in your mouth. Both entrees were amazing and we would recommend anyone to go and at least try it one time. And with a high-end restaurant like this: a credit card "fee" is simply penny-wise pound foolish. When I commented on this, I got a "well many pay with cash". I didn't buy that one bit nor was that a professional response. No adjustments were made (not that I was expecting there would be). Antebellum is located in a grand old home with a partial wrap around porch, on a quiet, well treed corner in the historic district of the charming semi rural city of Flowery Branch. Antebellum offers, by design, a menu with limited offerings but each item, whether classic fare or chef's originals are expertly crafted of quality ingredients & beautifully plated. We began our meal with the chef's rendition of fried green tomatoes with a lightly fried egg balanced on top, mated with a delicious small ramekin of bacon jam. The dish included a refreshing iced mimosa shot on the side. A plate of warm & delicate corn bread finds its way to the tables accompanied by a perfect green tomato ? marmalade jam. We shared a perfectly dressed Caesar salad, & could have licked our plates clean - dressing so good ! Our Entree choices: We found that The Logan Turnpike grits in the shrimp & grits was, to our taste, slightly al dente; the dish deliciously rich & satisfying. Chef's take on the night's special: Beef Wellington, was sublime. Inquire as to the prices on the specials. We did not & experienced richter scale worthy 'sticker shock' when reviewing our check. The strawberry cake for dessert with a generous scoop of smooth & silky vanilla ice cream on the side was light & satisfying. The equally delicious chocolate pot de creme is also on the lighter side in a milk chocolate style rather than dark chocolate. Coffee with our desserts, particularly my double espresso, excellent. Our table service at Antebellum was prompt, pleasant & exceedingly professional. Menu is brief, wine list is equally abbreviated but overall appropriate options relative to the menu. A cocktail each, 2 apps for the table, 3 salmon entrees and two halibut, 2 desserts, and two bottles of a lesser expensive wine. Total bill with tip was approaching $600. The reasonably more expensive halibut was not nearly as good as the salmon. I can't speak to other menu items but if you're looking for mild flavors, by all means try the halibut.
