**STOP AND EAT HERE!! ** I NEVER leave reviews, but this place was so good that I had to take the time to write one. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredible. I got to speak with Chef Roger, and you can immediately tell that he genuinely cares about the food he makes. The way he talked about selecting the flavors and preparing the mushrooms really showed how much pride he takes in his cooking. The maître d' at the door was also named Roger, and he was just as friendly and welcoming. I had my 18-month-old daughter with me, and the entire staff treated us so well. Everyone was professional, kind, and genuinely welcoming. At one point, I walked outside with my daughter while our food was being prepared, and she grabbed the maître d' Roger's hand and just started walking around with him. That honestly says a lot about how comfortable and welcomed we felt there. **Now, the STEAK... WOW.** This was probably the best steak I have ever had. The wood-smoked grill flavor and the crust were absolutely perfect. I had the Baseball Wagyu steak, and it was SO tender. It was almost like eating a more flavorful filet. Absolutely incredible. The mushrooms were fantastic, and the mashed potatoes actually tasted freshly made -- not like that watery, sad stuff that sometimes gets served as mashed potatoes. We didn't get the bourbon mushrooms because we don't drink, but Chef Roger explained that the alcohol is actually cooked off during preparation. You could tell he really knew his food and was happy to explain everything. Honestly, if you're going to eat in **Helen, GA**, I would put this place at the top of your list. Wow!!! This place absolutely blows so many steak houses out of the water!!! This is now my top 3 best steak places I've ever had! Not only is the steak amazing but the sides are outstanding as well. It's hard to find both good meats and great sides, however Cotton Calf over delivered on both. I was sad when I took my last bite, that's how good and flavorful everything was. Having heard really good things about this place, I was excited to finally get to experience it. I loved the atmosphere and had a great time at the bar while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. The bartender and drinks were amazing, and the bacon appetizer was incredible! We enjoyed the Pearberry which was light and delicious, as well as the Japanese Old Fashioned which my partner thoroughly enjoyed. Although the price for bacon seemed hefty, it's almost a slab instead of slice of bacon. It's a solid portion and very thick and deliciously coated in a sticky sweet sauce that we enjoyed. We were having a great time and were in great spirits but it took a turn once we were seated for the dining portion of the experience.. I think our experience came from the person manning the meats, who in our opinion doesn't know proper temp checks. We ordered multiple filets, ribeyes, and a tomahawk at our table of 5 and every single one was under. We asked for medium and medium rare throughout our table, but they all arrived severely underdone. The tomahawk was the biggest disappointment, when you pay a hefty price, you expect better results.. but it was raw, because rare doesn't even really describe it. We are not the type to make a fuss, so we just ate our steaks and asked for sauce to make them palatable. The flavor was there but it was very subtle, it could used a bit more seasoning. We relied heavily on the sides and our prior experience at the bar to keep spirits up. The reason this review isn't worse is because regardless of our dining experience, our bar experience was superior and I'd go back strictly for that. We ended up at a high‑top in the bar area since we made reservations late, and the table was definitely small, but our waitress was wonderful and explained everything really well. The bakery items were delicious, but the cake wasn't homemade, which was disappointing. My husband liked the bread pudding. We didn't order cocktails or wine, just water. Gabrielle provided amazing service, she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food was amazing, and the portions were huge. It was our first time here, but not our last. We frequent Braselton often for Chateau Elan, but wanted to try something in the area. There weren't any regular seating available as we didn't RSVP in time, but was able to sit in the lounge area, which was really nice and quiet. My first time dining here for a work dinner and presentation. This is such a hidden upscale gem in downtown Braselton. The decor was very nice. We had a private event fixed menu with filet , salmon, and chicken options. The steak was perfectly cooked along with the salmon that I had a taste of. Our servers were excellent in timing of our food. All the appetizers were tasty and the drinks as well. There are 2 private event dining areas. We had the front of the house area which was perfect for up to 30 people. I would definitely return on my own and recommend to give this a try if you want to get a way from the hustle and bustle. Service was par and solid and on point. The food was highly recommended to us by neighbors and friends, it is the best known restaurant on the high end$$$ in downtown located in Hoschton GA. The Filet mignon steak was full of flavor and delightful! As well as the "twice baked" sweet potato which was covered in cinnamon,butter and bacon. Mmmmm The asparagus was a little bit on the mushy side, but definitely had good flavor and the lamb chops looked and seemed to be absolutely elegant and delicious but slightly charred a bit too much for our taste. That seems to be the theme of this restaurant with the little extra char and love that is put into their cooking . I would recommend trying this place if you're in the area and looking for a special event and or special night out with your loved one. Every year's wedding anniversary has a 'theme'; year two is Cotton. So, my punny husband made reservations for us at the Cotton Calf Kitchen for our cotton anniversary. It was incredible. Nicole is very friendly and knowledgeable, it's obvious she takes great pride in her work and making sure every guest has a great experience. We had the oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer. They were the perfect temperature and the ingredients were balanced perfectly (garlic, cheese, spinach, and prosciutto complemented each other splendidly). For main courses, my husband had the Wagyu hanger steak and I had the lamb rack. Both were just *chef's kiss*. The lamb in particular was amazing. Perfectly cooked, and the sauce was just heavenly. My husband even dipped a few pieces of his steak in it! I will say (and this is a nit pick only because of how pricey it is and I know many of us are careful with our budgets), if you're deciding between the steak or another main (like lamb or sea bass, etc) and you prefer a more medium or under steak I'd advise going with the lamb or seafood. We've been here before (and had the filet and ribeye, in addition to the hanger this time) and the steaks both times had a few places where the outside was charred beyond chewable (and the steak was medium rare). Again, that is just a nit pick because of the price of the steak. Because it was our anniversary, a complimentary crème brûlée cheesecake was brought out to us with "happy anniversary" written on it. My daughter and I went with friends before a concert last Friday night. We split one burger for $36!!! and got the chopped salad to share as well. I ordered one cocktail. $99 before tip! The burger was very dry even though I asked for medium. It had 2 thick pieces of bacon that were so fatty that we had to remove. The chopped salad was so chopped that it looked like coleslaw and that was $22! I will never go back. We tried Brussel sprouts that our friends ordered and they were terrible. The calamari another friend ordered was ok. Their steak prices are outrageous. My hubby and I ate at nacoochee grill in Helen last night and I had one of the best filets I've ever had for $42 with 2 sides. Salad for 2 was $11. CC charges $62 for same 8 oz filet and all sides are al a carte and very expensive. Totally not worth the hype and food was a big disappointment! read more

They have been experiencing growing pains and they lack the $$$$ service that is expected by patrons! They seem to be overly busy in the kitchen which is fun to watch them say "ok chef"every second, but leads to mediocre plates! This place has grown to existence because there's nothing else to compare in this simple town. They closed their patio service for some reason which was once a great place to have dinner outside! Seating in some areas is a wee bit tight but overall I liked the vibe. I loved the open kitchen you could see into and there were a few booth seats right in front of the expo area. Service...great. Server was really nice. Manager stopped by to see how our meal was. Our leftovers were boxed properly and everything was timely. Food...ehh. It just wasn't great! Honestly wasn't even that good at all. It lacked flavor and for the price point...I mean c'mon. We ordered the Delmonico ribeye and the Cajun ribeye. Split a chopped salad and also got the brussel sprouts. I didn't finish any of it...and even though I got my leftovers boxed to go...I never ate it. It's sad but honestly I would have preferred a steak from Longhorn My hubby did eat all of his steak, but he doesn't believe in things going to waste. First off we'd like to say service from the beginning was great! Attentive waitress by the name of Cheyenne! She deserves all the praise. Not even a few minutes sitting down and settling we've ordered drinks and it came out with some bread in less than 10 mins maybe even 5 mins honestly. (That's how quick it was) She gave us all the awesome update and run down of some of the menu items. We ended up ordering raw blue point oysters for a light appetizer -10/10 so clean and tasty! We also got the Chilean sea bass, which was flaky and so buttery that's a 10/10 in our books. Del Marco dry aged steak 16oz, fantastic and perfectly cooked (medium). Well seasoned and natural flavor of the beef. Our sides were prosciutto green beans & asparagus- both 10/10, cooked perfectly and delicious! Even though the oysters can't be local, they're good. (I retired form the seafood business after 30 years, I know seafood) The service is top notch, never had to look for our waitperson. Ambiance is very nice, I'd say dress is relaxed business casual, shirt should have a collar. A bit heavy on the budget side, but I'm a believer that you get what you pay for. In today's world that wouldn't apply to everything though, like fast food drive through! OMG! where do I start?! This place is amazing. A very tucked away secret hide away! Our Server, Lauren, was the Absolute BEST! We made a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday and so glad we did. Reservations for 8:00p and got a text 30 mins early that our table was ready. Cool. It was only a 10 min drive. Arrived the venue is breathtakingly Beautiful. Didn't even know this place existed but it was so welcoming. the two young ladies at the door greeted us as we entered and sat us immediately. Our server was such a delight, she knew the menu front and back and even gave us some great suggestions. We started with Moscow Mules to drink and Fries Green Tomatoes for appetizers, which were both on point. We were then introduced to a medley of bread with a compound house made butter that was so good and blended so well that we tried it on the steak and OMG! It changed the game. Lauren also brought out the regular butter.. I wasn't quite sold on the corn so Lauren suggested we 'taste test' the corn so she brought it out, YESsSsS!! So I ordered the filet mignon Med Well and he ordered the lamb chops Med while we shared the creamed spinach, creamed corn and potatoes.. Everything tasted like Perfection. I can't describe in words how good each bite was. The food, service and overall experience was Amazing. Lauren went above and beyond on Customer Service and made our dinner a Joy. Perfect evening. We go here every year for our family birthday celebration! The atmosphere is beautifully lit and so elegant. The food is always on point. I have never ordered anything that isn't amazing. Tonight we got the 12oz filet, Salmon, and Garlic butter chicken. Our sides were ala carte. Mashed potatoes, creamy Brussel sprouts, cream spinach, root vegetables, truffle fries. And of course the rolls with herb butter that's so amazing. The waitress was so attentive and the kitchen was quick with our food and perfectly timed. Easily a top 5 Steakhouse outside of Atlanta. North Gwinnett and Hall counties have 2 outstanding steakhouses being Bare Bones and Cotton Calf, and I have to say Cotton Calf is an extremely competitive choice. Having sampled their charcuterie, crème of corn, and filet, I can easily say Cotton Calf has its bearings straight. The filet was almost perfectly prepared and melted in the mouth.
