The boa buns were soft, the pork was cooked perfectly, and the hoisin sauce at the bottom of the bun was amazing. There were vegetables on top, including cucumbers that tasted sweet and carrots. The vegetables were fresh and tasted great with everything else. We also ordered the crab Rangoon which I personally really liked. I don't like fish, and this crab Rangoon must have had a large amount of cream cheese base. I personally really enjoyed it since the crab wasn't very prominent. The filling was creamy, the Rangoon was crunchy, and the sweet and spicy sauce it came with made a perfect combo. For our meal, we ordered the chicken pad Thai. Unfortunately, it didn't really meet our expectations. The pad Thai was sitting on top of a sauce at the bottom, which tasted like a hoisin sauce base. The taste was very minimal, which was disappointing. The noodles were soft, almost like they were overcooked. The chicken was cooked well and lightly seasoned (which worked perfectly for the pad Thai). The vegetables on top of the pad Thai were also very fresh and you could tell they were freshly cut. The lack of peanut/pad thai taste was the most disappointing part that unfortunately lost it for us. The service was good. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and were able to select our own table. The inside is decently small, with around 8 tables.

It can get pretty busy on the weekends, so expect a wait at peak times. I love the Vegetable Dumplings, Hot Dry Noodles, General Tao's Tofu, Salt & Pepper Eggplant, and Sichuan String Beans. We started with the wonton soup, which was visually beautiful. The broth had a rich, inviting color and the wontons themselves were excellent -- thin, delicate wrappers with a very flavorful filling. Unfortunately, the broth itself was a bit underwhelming and lacked depth. A touch of hot mustard helped bring it to life, but it needed more natural flavor on its own. The standout dish of the meal was the Mu Shu Pork. Absolutely fantastic. The portion was generous and the flavor reminded us of classic Mu Shu from WoHop in NYC's Chinatown -- high praise. The pancakes were incredibly thin, almost paper-like and nearly translucent, yet soft and perfect for wrapping. This dish alone makes us want to come back. The Bang Bang noodles were another dish that looked beautiful when served, but the flavor didn't quite match the presentation. The sauce seemed watered down and there was quite a bit of liquid in the bowl, which muted the overall taste. It felt very close to being great, just not fully there yet. Overall, this was a mixed but promising first visit. There's clearly real skill in the kitchen, and when the flavors hit, they hit well. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying more dishes -- and we'll happily update this review after our next visit.

I broke my yelp hiatus just to post about this meal. This is the best grilled pork I've ever had,…read moreand as you can tell from the photo, the portion size is WELL worth the $15. Oh my god, I took a single bite and didn't speak to my friend for 15 minutes as I continued munching it down. It was amazing. The vermicelli comes underneath this mound of pork holy grail, and while I'm used to having my vermicelli with these bowls cold and a bit thinner, and there being significantly more noodles than meat ratio, I'm thrilled to say that not this bowl - this bowl was 60% pork, 30% noodle, and 10% veggie. I'm taking every bite with 2-3 pieces of pork. I'm soaking up the juices with the noodles. I'm crunching on a few cucumbers to balance it out. I'm savoring every piece. Absolutely wonderful. I'm so excited to go back and try every one of their dishes. The restaurant itself is small, located inside of a shared mini-food court place with a pasta-to-go restaurant and a boba tea shop, and has a really cute sitting area. There is a nice older lady who works the front/takes orders/delivers the food. Well worth trying to fight to find university parking just to eat here.

This was opened within the new-ish Enson Market as a Mala Tang and Mala Xiang Guo take-away place,…read morebut seems they have now expanded to a hot bar with a variety of dishes to pick from already made up for take-away as well. Now, Mala Tang and Mala Xiang Guo both come from Sichuan as far as I'm aware, so they're spicy--and the other food here is, too. I got some food to take away from the bar including Kung Pao chicken, lion's head meatballs (pork, no lions were harmed!), eggplant, and lo mein. The lion's head meatballs were excellent, the Kung Pao chicken very spicy and very good, the eggplant a bit soggy but alright, the lo mein . . . well, no better than most strip mall quick Chinese places, honestly. Still, it was good overall and this is very nice to have a place for take-away in the grocery store--it's also beside the boba tea and mochi donut counter so you can get your dessert and just everything in one fell swoop here. I did find it, as someone who cooks a lot of Chinese food myself, rather bemusing that they aced the tricky dishes and yet pretty much botched the lo mein which should have been the easiest part of the menu.

Gainesville now has a place that specializes in Mala Tang (spicy hotpot) and Mala Xiang Guo(spicy…read moredry hotpot). Both Mala Tang and Mala Xiang Guo are some of the most popular and authentic dishes from Sichuan province in China. The place is located inside Enson Market right next to Tiger Sugar Milk Tea and Japanese Mochi Donut place! Pro tip: just like my previous posts, this place is a real deal. I would not try spicy or extra spicy unless you are familiar with spicy east asian food.
