    Birria tacos with Southwest rice

The birria tacos were really good! The meat was tender, not chewy, and very rich in flavor. The burrito was really good too. It's a good value overall too, with complimentary chips and salsa (very good, not too spicy), and each meal comes with 1 side. Service was a little slow, but not too bad and it was the day of the Newberry Watermelon Festival, so it was packed overall. They even offered free water for our dog. It was only $27 before tip, so great value! There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating too. The bathrooms were very clean too. The service was very friendly too. Definitely worth checking out in a small town.

Some of us thought this was a fun new place and liked the quesadilla...but you could do better for the money. Watery thin salsa, salty milky queso wasn't good. Soup tasted canned. Fast food quality with restaurant prices. No bueno.

Street corn chicken wings with elote sauce for dipping

As the town of Newberry continues to develop with new neighborhoods, housing developments, and indoor and outdoor activities, so does its food scene. Tortilla Tex Mex is a new restaurant in the growing commercial center just off Route 41 south of town. I went on a Saturday night with two other people and we got a table on their outside covered patio area. We got an order of the street corn chicken wings for the table, which were perfectly crispy and had a great elote sauce for dipping. I ordered for my entree the steak fries, which were french Fries topped with Carne Asada, cheddar cheese, Mexican cheese, queso, pico de gallo, and sour cream. While the portion was large and they didn't go light on the steak, the fries (which were thin, shoestring style) were soggy. Almost like they were just thawed from the freezer and then covered with the toppings. This dish would have benefited from a larger, more hearty fry. Our server was fine, prompt and attentive. Tortilla Tex Mex is a good new addition to Newberry that I hope the locals can enjoy.

So here's the good and bad: Full service (which I was told was not the case when they first opened.) & our Server was great, :) too. Full on site bar. Prices are mostly pretty great for what we got. Here's the not so good. Hubby's food was sent back because it wasn't hot enough. (Hey, It happens) Frozen strawberry Margarita was ok -but a little too sweet and very little alcohol. At $13.99(!?!) I'll pass. Salsa was a little too much tomato paste -but now I'm being picky. Flies outside were a bit crazy! We only sat outside cuz there were literally no people inside -but it's Monday. Overall, I will likely return. My food tasted great and server was attentive. I will avoid the crazy priced margaritas. My call drink was $6.99 -hubbies beer was $3.75. It's not fancy but otherwise it's fine. Thanks!!

Great service, surprisingly good food and a clean atmosphere. The crunchy street tacos were different from anything I'd had before and thoroughly enjoyable. Two thumbs up and would return.

    Pico? $1.60?

It's unusual--kind of like it was rolled around a rolling pin and baked. It is thin but substantial enough to hold a sandwich together perfectly without being too heavy. What we ordered: Tomato Bisque: Absolutely delicious! It was thick, creamy, and exactly what a bisque should be. 1/2 Ham & Swiss: The ingredients were very fresh and tasty. Even the half-sandwich felt like a great portion. BBQ Sandwich: My husband got this and he loved it--he ate every single bite. Potato Salad: It was good, standard potato salad, but the sandwiches and the soup were definitely the stars of the meal. If you are looking for a fresh, high-quality lunch with a unique twist, this is the spot!

Brady helped us out and took our order plus delivered it to our table. Ms. Shelly prepares the delicious sandwiches. I had a grilled chicken wrap and it was very tasty plus I love how they used whole wheat wrap. My friend ordered the BLT (made to her specifications) and it was delicious. Her little girl had a very well made peanut butter and jelly sandwich which she could not finish (but I was later told that she ate it all up when she got home). The homemade brownie we all shared was wonderful and had a helping of peanut butter in the middle which made it even more scrumptious. Brady was preparing the coffee and they have a LOT of different flavors, blends, types...hot or iced. Had it not been for the lateness of the day (and my NOT wanting to stay up all night) I would've tried one of the flavors and some just came in for their coffee. But the lunch WAS excellent with a wide variety included Salad options for vegans. I'd highly recommend this place and it's worth the drive (I live an hour away). Since they're open on Sundays, it'd make a great place for after church meetings and a light lunch. I saw some people from a nearby church there, as a matter of fact. DO TRY this restaurant out and you will NOT be disappointed. A+

Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. You can tell the kitchen puts a lot of care into every dish. The inside (and outside) of the café is so cute and well-done -- bright, welcoming, and full of charm. We sat at the back table by the glass wall and loved the view. BUT... the service was a letdown. It's a seat-yourself place, which is fine, but we only saw our waitress three times: 1 When she brought our drinks 2 When she took our order 3 When she delivered our food That was it. No refills, no check, no follow-up -- while other tables (mostly locals) were getting consistent attention. We watched others getting drink refills, to-go boxes, and their checks brought to them... while we sat waiting and eventually had to go find someone ourselves. It definitely gave off a "locals only" vibe, and sadly, we felt overlooked. It was especially disappointing because we really wanted to love this place -- and we almost did. The food is , the atmosphere is beautiful, but the service just didn't match the quality of everything else. Would I recommend it? Yes -- for the food. Just be prepared that if you're not a regular, the experience might feel a bit cold. Hopefully, they work on that, because the place has serious potential!
