So, first, I think that a lot of the negative reviews have some merit. That store is PACKED, and you really need to be prepared for an archaeological expedition. And if you go on the weekend, the gals who work there are busy, so it take a while to get noticed. But, if you go in knowing this, you can find some great stuff in really good shape WAY cheaper than buying new. I bought a king bed set for $700 what would have cost better than $2K even at a discount place. Lots of nice furniture, not much junk. Such a fun store! We wandered around and admired lots of interesting furniture options. Their jewelry section in the center of the store had beautiful estate jewelry and we even found a wedding band that I loved. I wish I could remember the woman's name who helped us, maybe Nanette? UPDATE: The buyer experience is still excellent including delivery. However selling or consigning can be negative. Even if one person looks at pictures and says yes, the next employee could reject the pieces you bring in, sometimes with sarcasm and even a snobbish brush off. I love this store for buying but not for selling. I've bought high end furniture here for the same price that I would have paid for a new cheap item. Model home decor items are also available at great prices. I like that no one follows me around to help me. I browse at my leisure and take pics if I'm unsure. I also take my own measuring tape. BONUS--You can take an item home for a TEST DRIVE for 24 hours....small or big items...you simply bring it back if you don't like how it looks in your house. They have some nice furniture, but it's wildly overpriced. People come to consignment stores to buy used furniture at prices way lower than brand new furniture at places like Ashley's or Bassett. If I wanted to pay high prices like the ones here, I would just buy brand new. I tried to find a coffee table here and couldn't find a single one listed for less than $200 and most were more than that. A couple of them weren't even worth that! I recently consigned a 5 piece sectional. The delivery service charged me 115 for a 1 hour job. Gave me no receipt even though I asked. Made several complaints about it to the consignment store and the delivery service. No call backs, receipts, or explanation for the 115 charge for the 1 hour job at 75 per hour. The unit sold the same day it was displayed but still had to wait 4 weeks to get the check. This I understand if they are waiting for payment to clear or for customer to return. The real problem was when I got the check. No accounting of the amount I received and was charged 124.75 for the delivery. Called again and no response from consignment store. When they finally did call they started they could not provide the charges in writing any accounting. They charged me half of they credit card fee of 9.73, half of the pending fee of 2 dollars, and 112.50 for a delivery that should have only been 75 dollars. Watch out if you consign with this store. They are very unprofessional and provide no explanation and do not take any responsibility for the delivery service they use. They read more

So my dad brought me to this place and I'm glad he did. Just moved back to the Bay and looking to re furnish my house, found some great pieces, and the prices are well below retail. The only problem I had and I understand it's there policy, that's why I'm not giving them 4stars, is I wish I was able to save more than 3items. So the policy I was told you can save 3items for 24hrs. I missed out on something I wanted but wasn't sure how to use it. My fault I suppose, but I'm not that kind of impulsive person to just buy something on the spot because it's interesting. I wish they had a online inventory as well, but I understand that the turn over can be quick so maintaining a online inventory could be inconvenient and maybe less cost productive. Anyways even coming down to this place on a random weekend can be fun to kind of window shop, they have a lot of interesting pieces and could easily spend hours trying to find cool stuff. read more

She stole from me and shes probably stealing from you, too. Nga came to my home, previewed my items, accepted most everything. I was very pleased with the outcome. About 2-3 hours later, I received a call from another employee stating most of my items were not sellable due to condition and being out- dated. I was shocked! So, I decided to come down and take a look around, to see what IS sellable. Ironically, without knowing, I parked next to her vehicle. After walking thru the store, never did see Nga, I left. As I was getting into my car, I noticed in the vehicle next to mine, my items, mostly accessories, in the back seat. I was appalled! betrayed, and angry. Worst professionalism I've experienced. We had a nice, expandable table with 6 chairs we wanted to sell through this store. Made of solid oak, really sturdy. Call them on Thursday and ask if we could bring it in. They said sure, to bring it Saturday. Asked if they wanted any photos and they said no, just to bring it in cause they they'll take 6 seater tables. We come in Saturday and park in the back. I go in to talk to someone. I say hi to an older women and tell her we're here to drop off and she just walks off without acknowledging the drop off. After 10 minutes of waiting, we just start to unload the chairs and the table. Finally, 20 minutes later the first lady and 2 others come to take a look. They never greet us, say hi, or anything. They talk among themselves, pointing at things. One of the woman says we should try the local GoodWill. Again, this is the first time she has spoken to us. What do you mean we ask. She says they can't take it because the chairs are dated. I told her we were told to drop it off Saturday by someone who was working Thursday morning and further, that they didn't need pictures. In the most pretentious and obnoxious tone you can imagine, she asks who we spoke to. We didn't have a time, just the time. This wasn't good enough. She tells us none of her employees would ever say to come in without photos. This is the first time I started getting angry because this rude woman, instead of simply apologizing to us for our inconvenience of driving all the way out there, tells us we're wrong because we should have sent photos. I would have been happy if you told me you were sorry and that you would have a chat with all the staff working thursday to re-enforce store policies on photos prior to drop off. But no, all you managed to say that caused my friend to restrain me from a violent verbal episode was "I hope you don't leave unhappy". Good news is I'll never come back. read more

Not pleased with their jewelry consignment. I consigned a ring that retailed for $12K. Realizing I wouldn't get anywhere near that amount with a resale I agreed to have Home Consignment sell it. They agreed to offer to sell it for $2,990. Their agreement is consignor gets 60% and they have the right to reduce it another 20% if it doesn't sell. They also have in their agreement the consignor waits 30 days to be paid their portion. The ring sold right away because I checked to see if it was still available about 2 weeks after I consigned the ring. The disappointment is they discounted the price and I only received 48% of the asking price. I should have gone with my instinct because it didn't seem right when I consigned the ring. Things just seemed cagey and the clerk even said something like I bet Joe will like this one. Anyway Yelp is designed to help others not make the same mistakes. I haven't consigned (yet) but I have picked up some amazing pieces from this store! Some of the prices can seem a bit high but it is a high end consignment place so it makes it understandable for the items to be priced the way they are. It's a bit like treasure hunting, but when you find a piece you like make sure you go ahead and pick it up because chances are it won't be there for long! Overall, this is one of the better furniture consignment places in the area. The staff is friendly, one of the employees, Nga, was very patient and helpful to me. Buy stuff here if you must, you might find something unusual. But don't sell stuff here. My consignment was supposed to net me around $150 from a nice old bedroom set I gave them. I could have sold it for $400 or more on Craigslist, but I figured I'd avoid the hassle. Eventually I got a check from them for $19, with no explanation whatsoever. I would have given it to the Goodwill had I known, and taken a tax deduction for a fair amount. Even with no tax deduction I would feel a lot better about it. Obviously, they are near-crooks with little or no business ethics. I would like to see them go out of business. read more

The water in the toilet was black and there was no toilet paper at 11:00 in the morning. This place can be a royal cluster fuck and the last several times we have been in to check out the merchandise have been sorely disappointed. This coupled with the overpricing of some items (planter pots for example are more here than other places) and the fact that no one seems to be aware of placement of furnishings in pathways that can scratch or hurt. We unpacked a couple of items and they were not interested. They had what appeared to be a lot of new items in their store. I bought a beautiful piece of furniture here and had it delivered by their service (outside moving company). I had examined the piece in the store and it was in great condition. From the time that I left the store to when it was delivered the piece was damaged....either by the store or the moving company. There was a huge gouge through the paint and first layer of wood. It was VERY noticeable. We did not accept the delivery and had it sent back to the store. The store is now saying that it was sold in that condition (which it was not) and that they will not return our money until we pay the shipping company. When I bought the piece all the ladies working there commented on what great condition the piece was in...I even helped the salesperson open the door on the piece right where the damage is now located....you CAN NOT miss it! When I called the store about the situation I was told that they will not return our purchase price until we pay the movers....I never received a call to let me know that the piece had been damaged! They tried to blame me for the damage....I never touched the piece after purchasing it! Are they insane??I had nothing to do with the piece being damaged, so why do I have to pay for it? I never would have told them to deliver it knowing that it had been damaged....especially with the extent and placement of the damage. I will NEVER buy another piece of furniture from this store! They are very rude and obviously do not care about return customers or the quality of their product...once you pay for it - It's yours...they will keep your money even if they destroy it! If you do buy from them watch them take the piece off the floor, inspect it thoroughly (or take pictures of it) and make your own arrangements for shipping. read more

There is so much furniture and the prices for used furniture are insane. $900 for a used coffee table? Really??? Most everything is very high quality, but there were a few things that clearly came from WalMart marked twice as much. Not impressed with the "deals" at all. The worse part was this huge gold elephant. I misread the tag and thought it said $1,900. I just about died laughing at the thought someone would spend that kind of money on such a tacky thing. Jewelry shoppers beware! When you shop at the home consignment center for fine jewelry you are taking a gigantic risk. Be sure you are willing to waste or throw away the money you spend here! The item you buy may not be as it appears! Yesterday, I bought what I thought was a 14K yellow gold box chain. It has a link tag on the necklace saying 14K. Today, when I put the chain with my 14K yellow gold pendants it appeared very dull and dirty. So, I tried putting it in my ultra sonic jewelry cleaner, but to no avail. Next, I used my jewelers polishing cloth, purchased years ago from a trusted jeweler and used many times before. The more I used the polishing cloth, the lighter the gold color became. In some lights and sections it looks like silver. I am not sure what the necklace really is...vermeil, white gold dipped in yellow, pot metal with possibly a 14K tag soldered to it or what... ??? It is useless to me. I trusted the store. I just now, horrified, read the paper stapled to my receipt. It has a very unsettling section at the bottom. Before completing every sale the clerks should point out the message that I have just recently discovered and read. As a responsible business, there needs to be a huge sign clearly posted in full view at the jewelry counter with their message. The message says"...the Home Consignment Center makes no representation as to condition or pedigree. All merchandise sold "AS IS". All sales final... So now I find that I am stuck with a necklace that I do not like, do not want, and that I can not use. And, more importantly, I am out the money that I spent, thinking I was buying a 14K yellow gold necklace to wear with my pendants. The necklace may well not be 14K like the metal link says and does not appear to me to be 14K YELLOW gold. I am most unhappy and disappointed.The necklace turned into an expensive lesson. I wish that I had gone to another local business instead. Please, don't make my mistake. For the consignment process, HCC gets zero stars! We had them come over and give us an estimate on pretty much a full house of furniture. Most of the prices were reasonable with the exception of one or two pieces. They offer to have a moving company pick everything up for $75/hr, so we jumped on that. We lived in San Ramon, so we are 10 minutes away from the store. It took the guys an hour to load up all of the stuff, so I assume it couldn't take more than that to unload it? Well, I was wrong... Some of our stuff sold and we got our first check to find a $300 charge for moving. 4 hours? Seriously? They must have taken a long lunch break on our dime... Of course, there is no way to dispute it. On the first check, it actually showed line by line what sold and for how much. Very nice, except after they take 50% of the sales price, they charge you 3% if someone buys your stuff with a credit card. WTF? That wasn't in the contract!! It was not my choice to take credit cards or not, that was your choice as a business. Don't charge me for it. So be aware, you get 47%, not 50%. Since then, we have received random checks every once in a while. However, they never list what they are for. We just have to guess at everything. It's a bit ridiculous. In addition, we took some extra pieces over to be consigned after we moved. They acted like they were doing us a favor taking them. The woman swore up and down that she didn't think our couch would sell. Wouldn't you know it - it was gone in a week! They had also quoted $75 for a small leather covered side table. When I went to drop it off, they were trying to figure out what brand it was and turned it over. We got it at Home Goods and the price tag was still on it - $29. So they took the sticker off and then told us they could only sell it for $19. Seriously? you said it was $75, but now you are saying $19 because you saw what we paid? I guess the moral of that story is to tell them you paid a lot more than you really did. Otherwise, you won't get the true value from your items. I do like shopping there. Once in a while you can find some cool stuff at reasonable prices, but it is definitely hit or miss. read more

The furniture they receive from individuals is great. However they have started to stock the store with poor quality fake-antique-gaudy-style furniture made mostly of resin. Some of this furniture in the name of primitive ism is very poorly made. Drawers with no slides, poorly finished and rattling. It is jarring in its poor quality and seems not to belong nor appeal to someone shopping for good quality bargains. I often see these trucks in the back unloading this junk furniture. They have expanded the store so they must feel a need to keep it full even if it is with junk. However the good stuff still does make an appearance from the neighborhood which is of course classy. The most amazing thing about this store is the staff. They are uniquely unfriendly. I don' know where they hire these ladies but they are not hired for their people skills. Damn HGTV! My addiction to this channel's design shows have sparked me to rearrange, design, and constantly think of new ways to decorate and fill my home. Thankfully, I found this little gem in San Ramon. On our very first trip there, we found the perfect trunk we've been looking for to complete the living room. We noticed this perfect piece while roaming through the store... It was missing the tag so we called an emplyee over. After looking at the piece, she commented on some imperfections and informed us they are willing to sell for $39. Seriously? SOLD!!! What a steal! This place has tremendous deals on used furniture that are in great condition. They have a nice selection of couches, end tables, dressers, coffee tables, etc... that are unique and well priced. read more

Always a nice experience shopping here. Have had many excellent purchases. Just one caveat, make sure you check out the rugs carefully. One of the 3 that I bought here had a smell when I drove it home, but I thought it was a rug smell - a big rug rolled up and stuffed in a small car is going to emit a smell. However, the smell stayed weeks after I laid it out at home, and when I called HCC, the woman advised me to use febreeze. I didn't know what that was at the time, but I didn't want to mask the smell, I wanted to get rid of it. It has dissipated, but is not entirely gone. I will have to get it cleaned, and I think that should be done beforehand. read more

My biggest grip is that you deal w/ Sue today, and tomorrow she's gone. then you deal with Tine, and a couple days from now she's gone....its nice to build a rapport with a salesperson and unfortunately that doesn't happen here. Hmmm! To the majority of us we assume a good jewelry store has glitter and fulfills our status however I cannot agree with that notion. After pursuing the inventory at home consignments I was attracted to their jewelry case. Beaming up to me behind locked doors was an amazing arrangement of beautiful jewelry. I asked one of the sales associates if I could look at their gold earrings and she said certainly in a pleasant and calming voice. Her name was Nanette a lovely lady who without asking cleaned the pieces I was interested in and quietly placed them on a velvet cloth so that I might view their beauty. I decided on a beautiful pair of earrings which she promptly looked for more secure backings for them. She even offered me a lower price which was entirely new to me. Nanette carefully placed the earrings in a beautiful box and gave them to me not only at a discount but offered a beautiful bag to place them in. Yes I was delightfully surprised at Nanette's professionalism and kindness. Do I recommend Nanette and the Consignment Store in Danville? Definitely YES! read more

This is in response to the comments left by HCC Owner to my original review below. NOTHING stated in my review is fictitious. I still have one of the items represented to me as something it is not along with the original receipt from HCC. I have documentation from a certified jeweler stating what the item actually is and it's gold fill, not 14K gold. I would be happy to return it to you, along with the original receipt and you can test it yourself. Or, better still, refund my money. Do NOT question my veracity. And, when I returned the pendant, along with an appraisal from a jeweler, Bobbie, an Owner, along with Sharon, a Co-Owner pulled up an e-Bay listing of a pendant similar to the one I returned. They showed me the listing and made a point to tell me that this helped them set the price point for the pendant I had purchased. You can verify this with Sharon and Bobbie!!! I did not say that EBay is used as a comparison or to set prices for every item sold. But it WAS used when I returned the pendant. This is a fact. End of story. And I WAS made to pay for something that was broken at the counter, It was a black Jade bangle with a gold clasp and small rubies. It flew over the glass, smashed on the cement floor and broke and I was told that I had to purchase it by Deborah who left soon after and took over an HCC jewelry location in Southern California. I paid for it immediately. The "jade" turned out to be glass but the rubies and gold were real. Why do you insist on saying these claims are fabricated? They are not. They are all verifiable. To make me pay for a bracelet that I did not break, when I assume you have insurance to cover instances like this, was shocking to me and I was embarrassed. Especially after spending many $$$ over the years. Dan and the other co-owners can tell you that I was in often weekly mostly buying and sometimes consigning and before all this happened, HCC was a favorite place for me to shop. Your insurance should have covered the cost of the broken item. I am not saying that items were deliberately misrepresented to me. Mistakes happen but all of the items offered for sale in the jewelry dept. should be checked and perhaps checked again. I learned my lesson the hard way. I am extremely disappointed. We have been here multiple times and bought several different pieces of furniture with wonderful experiences. Had I reviewed this place after those experiences (all in-store), they would have gotten 5 stars, easily. This time, I placed a media center on hold while I was in store yesterday and was told that we could call in to purchase it since they have shorter hours today. When we called in they had a difficult time finding it at first, and after they got the card information they wouldn't answer our questions and essentially hung up on us. When we called back to ask questions (how much it would be for delivering it to us, could it be broken down, and what we needed to do to bring furniture in for consignment) they gave short answers and began helping another customer shortly before hanging up again. read more

Right and last time I was in there one could not WALK for all of the furniture crowded in there.
