Hold Out is thankfully not too far from the office, but just far enough of a walk to reset your perspective on the rest of the day. Most of the seating is outside and if you sit under the awning, it's nearly always pleasant. My favorite burger is the chori-pico. Chorizo mixed in with the ground beef. It is very very good. I finally had a regular burger the other day and it was acceptable. The chori-pico is better. Their curly fries are our favorite and one basket is enough to share with friends. Their beer selection isn't vast, but what they have is good. I usually wind up with a Liquid TV because I can't seem to drink anything other than IPA. Only complaint is that almost every visit, someone's food gets forgotten in the kitchen, so don't just sit there waiting if you feel left behind. We really enjoyed a sunny chilly day on their patio. We were not hungry, but definitely want to come back and try their gastropub style burgers. The guy next to us had a huge hotdog or the Chicago Dog, which looked absolutely worth it. There are plenty of drought beers to choose from. They had plenty of parking close by, though a bike rack might help the locals. This place has a great atmosphere, is pet and kid friendly, and had plenty of large tables for groups. The neighboring Better Half Coffee shares the patio and parking, so it's easy to mingle between the two for brunch. There's also Nate's Baked Goods within walking distance for more options. We're always looking for a central meeting place. This was our first time at Hold Out. My friends had their burgers and gave them high marks. Their beers were good and had a good selection. Came here on a Thursday early afternoon with a friend. Was not busy at all and I love that they have plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors and a parking lot in the back. You order inside at the counter and they give you a number and they bring the food to you and drinks at the counter. I'm not a big beer drinker (they do have other options) but I chose a non alcoholic prebiotic soda which was delicious. The burgers and fries came out pretty quickly. I got the classic burger which is nothing super special, but a solid burger overall. The curly fries were so good and seasoned well. It's nice they have a full menu of food, and the simple burger is pretty cheap, though when ordering a burger they gave me a double which was a bit annoying since I didn't ask for it. This was my go-to bar in Austin. I miss it dearly. It excelled in every dimension - the outdoor seating and ambiance, the beer, and the food. The seating is great, with lots of room and shaded areas - really friendly community beer garden vibe every time I went. The beer in rotation was also consistently excellent and they had some really interesting varieties of their own which were pretty unique - I remember peaches and creme, and liquid television being among my favorites and I haven't been able to find a beer quite like that since. Most surprisingly, the food is really outstanding. I would typically get their 50/50 burger which was always very fatty and juicy - the additional pork bun was always a really nice twist which made it a little extra tender and unconventional in an interesting way. read more

Great new spot where it felt safe to eat onsite (outside, reservation only seating currently) with servers following recommended safety measures. I had the kitchen sink salad and squash w/ peaches with a pint of the Bjorn Again Texan. Our server was super friendly and while there were a couple minor mishaps they were nothing I'd complain about, especially in today's current environment. The brews leaned heavily toward pale ales, which I completely get, considering they opened during Texas' summer, and I'm looking forward to checking their menu later on this year to see if any hoppier and/or stouter brews come into rotation. I considered trying their IPA but the server - who said she had a similar taste preference - recommended the Bjorn Again as her fave. It's highly drinkable being light & smooth, but not really that memorable for me. My salad and squash side were delicious & I'd definitely recommend both! My friend had the house single patty burger & curly fries. She said the burger was good but she'd definitely go for the double patty next time (they're thinner) and we both agreed the curly fries were overly salty. Overall, great new space to check out and the food I had was delicious! Only thing preventing it from being 5-stars are just a few minor order errors and the flavor preferences mentioned. The day was Saturday and I was in search for three things, three rather simple things to be fair: good atmosphere, good people, and an edible burger. I found two of them at this establishment, and well, it wasn't the burger. I placed my order, a burger with no cheese, just lettuce and tomato (sue me, I'm lactose intolerant). The time was 2:15. Before too long, out came a burger, smothered in cheese. I'm a simple man, truly. If I could eat cheese without unleashing a force nobody deserves to see, I would. I don't like being difficult. But with respect to those around me, I elected to remind the kind waiter that my burger wasn't supposed to have cheese, in which he apologized and said he'd have the correct burger brought right out. I waited, and I waited, and I continued to wait. The time was now 3:15. I kindly asked the waiter for the status of my burger as I was going to have to leave soon, in which he told me it would be out shortly. I continued to wait, no burger. I then asked for the burger to be brought out with a to-go box because I had to leave soon, no issues there, "Absolutely!" he replied. Long story short, the time was now 3:52, no burger. It was time for me to leave. 1 hour and 37 minutes had passed without me receiving my burger. The best part is, my order did end up coming out at 4pm so they gave it to the group I was with. Oh, and if you're curious, yes, it was smothered in cheese; BUT not just that, it had a tomato that was 2.5 inches thick just thrown in there like it wasn't the most ridiculous looking thing that existed. I mean it really was twice as thick as the patty. I'm not sure it was even sliced. I respect it, but sheesh. Picture below. I don't write this review to hate, I just honestly wanted to share my story. The atmosphere was great, the beer was cold, the staff was very kind, but man I just wanted a damn burger is all. 1 star for good atmosphere, 1 star for cold beer, 1 star for nice people, -1 star for the place unable to serve me a simple burger within 1.5hr+, and -1 star for it having cheese on it, twice. I'm no mathematician but unfortunately I have to leave a 1 star review. Holdout is a new brewery connected to Better Half coffee by their patio space. I went to their pre-opening about a year ago and had all three beers which were all great. Since they opened a few weeks ago, I've had their pilsner and now the recent ipa called liquid television and both were fantastic. They also have food and when I picked up my to go beer earlier today, they told me they're taking reservations for inside space starting next week (just now opening that due to covid). They also have food and you can grab coffee next door while you're there, I highly recommend checking them out. I was holding out on writing this review, but after seeing my friends rate it two stars, I had to go ham. My group was around 8 people. We ordered one dish per person. The food arrived an hour and a half later. I am confused how it could've taken so long for food to arrive. To make matters worse, the waiter said "sorry for the hold out" and laughed when he gave us our food. I held out on my laughter for that one. It should not take that long for pancakes or burgers to be prepared. No clue what was going on behind in the kitchen but the chef definitely holding out on cooking or something. Hold Out Brewing is a good spot for bar food and drinks. I was lucky and somehow got in line to order at the counter before the line got too long, and the food/drinks came out quickly after that. It's above-average bar food, with nice and crispy curly fries and in-house baked chocolate chip cookies, which were nice surprises. The one tip I'd make about Hold Out Brewing is to Uber there.
