It's tucked away in a little shopping center just over the bridge. They didn't have some insane 2 hour wait and as far as I can tell they don't sell tie dye wife beaters emblazoned with their logo and matching beer koozies so, if that's your thing carry on... Second visit with friends - it was amazing. The mushroom and truffle risotto was complete heaven. The salmon was perfect. When I ordered it well, the server knew enough to suggest that i get it med-rare to avoid overcooking. The dessert was pure perfection. I am in love with this new place! The bread and garlic oil was delicious. The menu items were unique blends of flavor and executed very well. They did seem a bit understaffed for the crowd, but this is a common issue in covid. A simply scrumptious meal with a totally delightful dining experience. If you area driving to HHI anytime this is a perfect place to stop before you hit the intercostal. If you want to adventure out for a meal - worth the trip. Just remember this is in the back of a shopping plaza and not that easy to find. You need to know they have a daily lunch deal for $8.75. A great price and they have a variety of options as well as soup and salad and 1/2 sandwich and sides, etc. This is not the reason we decided to try the place. The service and atmosphere were great. Scott started with the sweet potato "creek" chowder with shrimp, crab, andouille sausage. The dish had a nice smoky and sweet smell from the andouille and sweet potato. He then had the lunch special reuben on marble rye served with hand-cut fries and sea salt. My meal was perfect. The sea scallops & forest mushrooms served with lemon-pepper pappardelle, tomato, spinach, sweet peas in a porcini black pepper cream was decadent and wonderful. The fact that they take a reservation is almost a five star itself....especially in Hilton Head. The dining area is decorated cute..however no water views. It's actually in a strip mall. We had chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and peach cobbler. The food was excellent but I will say a bit on the heavy side. The south however is known for cooking with butter and cream, etc. You will definitely feel like you overate after leaving here. The drinks were amazing. I had blueberry lemon infused vodka. I may be butchering the name of the drink, however it was so good that I had more than one. I think it's just a bit far out to give it 5 stars. read more

The ambiance is great, nice tables, great light fixtures made from mason jars, very comfortable we started with 3 different cocktails and the potato chips with Gorgonzola and chives. So good. Mother had crab cakes and said they we fabulous, father had fish and liked the plate. Hubby had the polenta skillet which was wonderful and I had the steak special which was a huge perfectly cooked steak, with a mushroom risotto with some sort of marinated cherries, yum. Had an awesome dinner at HogsHead last week with the family. I saw some mentions of disappointment that there wasn't a water view. Although this is listed as Hilton Head, I would really say it was in Bluffton. Personally, I think Bluffton has more interesting restaurants to choose from these days than the island, but that's just me. Atmosphere is fantastic. It has a very rustic chic thing going on. Reservations are a must. So plan ahead. Food is great. I deducted a star because I liked my short ribs but I didn't LOVE my short ribs. I did, however, love the bite of chicken and waffles I ate off my sister's plate; the pear and goat cheese bite I stole off my mom's plate; the house-made pappardelle noodles from my brother's plate; and the side of roasted brussel sprouts I almost didn't want to share with the table. I'll be back. I went with wine drinkers but was dying to try their cocktails. read more

We had an amazing experience here. Totally unexpected as we stumbled across it after checking in late at the Hilton Garden Inn. Menu was excellent, wine list extensive, a perfect match of casual and chic. Owners have completely redone the place apparently and tables made out of old barn doors complete with hardware in the bar that can easily seat 8, is just a touch of class. This is a modern twist on American bistro cuisine NOT bbq. Hogs head is a reference to wine barrels. Make a special trip. Owners are great, present and friendly. read more

I had no idea that this restaurant existed! We had dinner there on Friday night. The service was outstanding. The menu was unique. The portions were larger than expected. Everything that we ordered was fantastic . The ribs that my husband ordered were quite spicy.... but delicious . I was glad that I just ordered the appetizer portion of the shrimp and grits for my dinner . It was more than enough. The shrimp were very large. We also shared an entree size chicken caprese salad that was delicious. We will definitely be returning. Happy hour heaven! This was our second visit this summer, and we are happy we did. In early June we had dinner here, ahi tuna and shrimp/grits, and really enjoyed the meal. The bourbon pecan pie was a great finishing touch. Yesterday, we decided to meet some friends at the bar for happy hour, have a drink and appetizers, and then grab dinner somewhere (somewhere = our friends hate to try new places). By the time it was over, we had ordered at least one of each of the happy hour appetizers, while providing our own ranking of them in order. The house made chips with Gorgonzola and bacon won, but the oysters weren't far behind. Have you ever eaten a pulled pork sandwich on a krispy kreme donut? Seriously!?! Talk about evil on a plate! We each ate 1/2 and decided that we'd never do it again. It was delicious, but obamacare expressly forbids the consumption of them. Great beer and wine selection, and the wait staff was excellent. They saw that we were making our own entertainment, so were available but not hovering. We need to keep this place on our list. You can be really decadent here with your choices, or have a healthy meal that is top notch. Either way, try the chips, and spend the $1 on the bacon. :) read more

You know when you are at your last night after a week at HHI and you are looking for an "under the radar" kind of place to have your last dinner? We found Hogshead. It's located just off island just outside Moss Creek. My wife and I partook from a nice selection of wine by the glass. The baked brie was deliciously simple. I had the caprese and it really highlighted the heirloom tomatoes. My wife's filet was perfectly done. My duck breast was a little over but the blueberry based sauce and corn risotto were great. My daughter's crab and shrimp stuffed flounder dressed with bacon tasted as decadent as it sounded but could still have been finished with a little lemon. The mashed cauliflower was simply awesome and the truffled French fries were good. Overall the place was great. The next time we are on the island we might not wait til the last night to go back. read more

We have waited 3 years to eat here. Either we were to early in the area or they were closed Sunday or Monday. Finally got there and enjoyed the experience. The wine list is short but sweet. The small plates all interesting and well done. Service was efficient. I give this restaurant 5 stars because they deserve it even though we had an unpleasant experience that could have been avoided with an apology. Just before my dinner was served the chef/owner came out of back of the house to advise there was no short ribs. Would have been good to know at the time I ordered. "I can't do anything if Cisco does not deliver" Just a sloppy way to handle customer service. I did not order another dinner because we had already eaten soup, salad, and a small plate. So they cheated themselves out of another dinner because I ended up eating my husbands ribs-that were delicious. Please owners be grateful for your customers and don't act like the "Soup Nazi" You are there because of the customer-not the other way around. Eat here and enjoy! We did. read more

Just came into town and went on my Yelp app to find a nice restaurant to go to. We decided on HogsHead Kitchen because of the menu listed and reviews. We ordered a couple cocktails, two yummy spinach goat cheese(so good) salad, their local oyster stew (so delicious) and their Tuna special entree (which was perfectly seared, amazing flavor). All in all it was a delicious dinner and nice atmosphere. When we got our bill they charged us $7.00 because I asked for an extra plate. I don't mind paying a splitting fee if they split the entree because restaurants usually make both plates with the same presentation. My husband kept saying he didn't want any of my tuna because he wasn't that hungry and he was also ordering the oyster stew and salad. I asked for an extra plate just in case he wanted a little of my tuna. Because of that they charged me $7.00 when I asked for a plate. Just a heads up! read more

From the call back before hours to confirm our reservation through to dessert everything was beyond our expectations. Before dinner drinks were delicious, pear and Brie app was so good, highly recommend, bread and olive oil with roasted garlic delicious! Then main meal...I had the red snapper, best seafood dish I have ever had, my husband had the salmon salad and really enjoyed his meal. We split the three berry sorbet with pistachio anise biscotti and that too was so good...will be a regular for us when in town for sure. Highly recommend. Service was top notch as well! read more

I definitely feel like I'm getting a very good value here. The food is definitely not lighter fare. It Southern and really fantastic. We always sit in the bar. Just went back again for dinner and had another great meal. Each time we go back it gets better. Had the ribs this time and they are so good. Portion was so big we've got enough left over for dinner again. I can't wait to dig in again. My wife salad, her favorite was spot on. Fresh ingredients were the staple of her salad. My husband and I were visiting family and heard good things about the food at HogsHead. I called the restaurant at 5:30pm to make reservation, only to be put on hold for 5 minutes. I hung up and called back 10 minutes later. When I asked to make a reservation, I was told that the hostess didn't show up and they needed to put me on hold. I hung up 2 minutes later. Despite not getting good customer service on the phone, we went to HogsHead at 8:45pm. We were sat upon arrival and given menus. A waiter came and filled our water glasses, but never came back. It appeared that he was the only waiter serving the 5 other tables in the restaurant. While I can appreciate the fact that he was busy, after more than 10 minutes of waiting and watching all other tables get service, we got up and left. We will not be giving this place another chance. read more

Flavor filled dishes are all over the menu at Truffles. From the coconut shrimp (we had the appetizer version) to the catch of the day, which was black drum fish, you really cant go wrong. As an fyi, they sell the butter they serve with the bread that they bring you after your order. read more

We have been "part timers" in the Hilton Head Area for over 30 years and now reside here full time. One thing that has made us love the area is its fine dining with so many excellent options. Hogs Head has easily become A,if not THE favorite for my wife and I. The eclectic menu will have something for everyone. The food is well prepared and always beautifully presented. Service is excellent and the owners,Alexis and Chef John, are known for their warm hospitality and they are always glad you came. Here's a couple pointers:1) Make a reservation, 2)also try them for lunch and 3) hear the specials before you read the menu. Not inexpensive ,but we have never felt overcharged. This place is great to eat a casual or fancy dinner you can come in with shorts and a T-Shirt or a dress. The sea salt chips are outstanding. The truffle fries are to die for. And they have great steak! If you ever come here you will not regret it. The people are nice and sweet, they never seem to be upset and who would be when your in a beautiful place like this. Did not rush us with ordering or giving us the check. The decor was ok, but confusing. The chairs and tables were heavy oak. They looked like they belonged in a pizza joint instead of this delicious-smelling place. The music mix was odd as well--a mix of old and Classic rock. Just had one of the best meals of my life here! I travel and eat out about 80% of the time and this was definitely the best meal I have had in the last two years! The pear appetizer was amazing with a wonderful palate of flavors...then the filet mignon feature was off the charts! It was cooked to perfect temperature and was fork tender, but the flavor was incredible! It had a perfect char grilled crust and was finished with marinated mushrooms and butter glaze. The jam compote underneath unlocked a whole new flavor burst and I was in food heaven! The sides were crispy potatoes and brussel sprouts, which were fantastic as well and acompanied the steak with perfection. If I lived in town, I would eat here at least once a week! Love, love, love this restaurant!! The menu is different in a good way and they will make changes to dishes if they can. I have the shrimp and grits but with blackened chicken (I don't eat shellfish) and it was fabulous. In fact, I took half of it home. Went here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. They have great service, lovely atmosphere and amazing chicken and waffles!

We were visiting Hilton head for vacation and stopped for an early dinner. We had the truffle grits, mac n cheese, mussels, scallops, caprese salad, curried shrimp, and peach flatbread AND pecan pie and French vanilla ice cream. It was ALL delicious!
