Staff: Not a good experience here. Walked in and got in line behind a couple and noticed a man off to the right kneeling down for some time looking into a display case. Instead of helping me who was clearly next, the lady turns to help him. Even if he was there before me he was clearly still looking. She should have asked who was next. I said nothing at all but she looked at me a couple of times clearly realizing she did not handle this right. Another male employee came out and helped me. After ringing me up asked me if I wanted a receipt, I said no thanks, and he said, " you're all set". Didn't hear a thank you. Double failure on the customer service experience here. Quality/Quantity: We got 2 cookies and an orange cranberry scone. These were good and a decent size. Value: $12 for the above order so this is subjective. To me it was fair. Hoffman's used to be my favorite bakery for birthday cakes, but I can honestly say the last few cakes I've tried from them have been misses. I came here last week to pick up a birthday cake at around 1pm on a weekday and had my pick of their 6" daily cakes available in store (Princess Torte, Signature Chocolate, Carrot Cake, Lemon Chiffon, Tricolor Mousse Torte, Strawberry Genoise, Chocolate Raspberry Torte, Tiramisu Cake)- note that they only have one of each available daily unless you order ahead. If you order ahead, they also have other flavors available outside of their daily cake selection. Each 6" cake is $58.95 and serves up to 8 people. As noted in my previous review, the PRINCESS TORTE is what Hoffman's is known for and is their best cake. For autumn, they have a cute Princess Torte in the shape of a pumpkin (same cake and fillings just with a festive look). I've ordered this cake at least two or three times before and this decided to switch it up and try their LEMON CHIFFON CAKE which has sponge cake filled with lemon mousse, iced with vanilla buttercream, topped with rings of lemon curd and coated with croquant (sweetened puffed rice). I love lemon bars and all things tangy and lemony, but while this cake was pretty, it missed the mark in taste. Texture-wise, the chiffon cake layers were perfectly light and airy as a good chiffon cake should be. However, taste-wise, the lemon mousse filling was bland and barely had any lemon taste or tang. It really needed some punchy lemon curd to give it that extra oomph, and I have to say that their lemon curd on top was gummy and tasted more like a sweet lemon gummy bear than lemon curd. The buttercream was not too sweet, but also needed more vanilla- I felt like I was just eating plain butter and powdered sugar without any flavoring. All in all, I unfortunately had to add this cake to my list of cake disappointments (which also include their Caramel Sweet Cream Cake and Coconut Cake as mentioned in my previous review). TLDR- if you want a zesty lemon cake from here, go with their Strawberry Lemonade Cake instead and skip the Lemon Chiffon Cake. OR play it safe and just get the Princess Torte. Interior-wise, they haven't done any renovations as long as I've been going to Hoffman's. They have a case on the right when you enter for whole cakes and cake slices and a case on the left for pastries and savory food. They have limited seating and street parking (although they might validate in the garage behind them- not sure). Service is good and they always have my cake ready when I ordered. My one complaint is that after you pay and sign, the screen asks you for a tip when the only "service" they perform is putting the cake in a box for you to take home. I personally don't count that as actual service since that's part of their job and there's no other way to give the cake to the customer and transport the it home. Thats just my two cents though. Latte was the worst I've has in months, and I've tried a lot. Tasted burnt. The tea was weak and watery. Ordered their chocolate cupcake for my wife's birthday and she threw it out after one bite. And the cookies--yuck. Thank goodness we picked up a "backup" cake at the nearby Parisian Baguette to save her special day. Oh my gosh, Hoffman's is literal perfection! I came here to get a birthday cheesecake for my wife. I looked online and they regularly stock a couple of cakes that would have been adequate for the occasion (I was aiming for white chocolate cheesecake or the princess torte). I parked behind Hoffman's, which has AMPLE PARKING (mid-day on a Saturday it was totally empty). I guess the parking is kind of hidden (there's a green, circle "P" sign), but the driveway is to the west of Woodblock if you're looking for it. When I got out of my car, it was also kind of confusing what you're supposed to do... as you walk out, it says "scan this QR code and pay... OR note your license plate and get license plate validated by the business you're visiting". So... I guess that's the deal -- you give your license plate to the business and they'll validate it over some system for you. You apparently get 15 mins free (which they dont say on any of the signs, but thats what the employee at Hoffman's told me). If you are hanging out in the area or eating inside, they will validate 2 hours. I ended up getting a bunch of stuff - lemon bar, thumbprint cookies, dino cookies, raspberry mazourka... and everything was SERIOUSLY AMAZING. The lemon bars unexpectedly have a crunchy white chocolate edge/bottom -- makes them extra beautiful and tasty, it's like a toned-down chocolate so it doesn't overpower it. So fun, though. They're extremely bright and refreshing and rich -- just incredible. The raspberry mazourka is also a standout - it's kind of like a raspberry pie with oat-y crumble... but turned into a bar and concentrated -- so, a thick oaty, sugary topping... kind of a raspberry jam in the middle, and a crust kind-of-thing on the bottom. Man... so good. As they said on their website, they had a whole 8 inch white chocolate cheesecake ready to go in the case. I ordered, stood back so other people could order while they put everything together (packed up the cheesecake, put all my goodies in a bag), and brought out my stuff to me and I was off. Food and pastries 10/10 customer service by Marcella was terrible. I went to order a breakfast sandwich and I asked for a bagel and in a snarky and off putting tone we don't have bagels. But the egg bacon and cheese croissant was awesome. My friends order a breakfast plate and breakfast burrito they made them pay for a burrito again because "you did not order it" make sure they ring up your order right. Coffee was good but I haven't found better coffee than soul coffee house in Redmond area. The coconut Macron was bit too sweet IMO. Other items were okay. We've passed this place many times while walking around downtown and finally decided to stop in. We purchased a snowman frosted sugar cookie and a sandwich. The sandwich was meh but the cookie was BAD. I've never had a crunchy frosted sugar cookie. With the expectation of a soft cookie with soft, pillowy frosting, I was surprised to bite into a crunchy, crusty sugar cookie with crumbling crunchy frosting. It was so unenjoyable that I literally threw it in the trash. I threw a $4 cookie into the trash!! I couldn't even finish it. Specifically visited Hoffman's to try a slice of their Princess Torte cake. The staff was friendly and service was fast. The slice seemed a bit pricey for $7.25, but it was a tasty piece of cake! Hoffman's has gone downhil. We've been going there since they were in Kirkland, and I can say the quality is not the same as it used to be. They also have a serious lack of innovation, same exact stuff as 20 years ago at 5 times the price. I understand prices have gone up, but their price hikes are out of line. Cute little shop. Ordered quite a few breakfast croissant sandwiches. We waited about 15-20 mins for our order, while looking at everyone around us eat their simple orders. The pastry display looked amazing! Overall the croissants were okay. Not enough meat, I also didn't expect an egg on our sandwiches because the menu didn't say it had eggs. Each sandwich had two poached eggs, it was a little over cooked and dry. I was hoping for a runny egg. No condiments on it. But they did add diced tomatoes and onions if you preferred. Went to get a roast beef sandwich for dinner. It was paired with saddest little pickle spear. Not only was it soggy, it was outright disgustingly sour, like it had been marinated for too long. I thought I could take a bite, but the inside fell apart yet the skin stayed attached to the rest of the pickle. The sandwich was also incredibly salty (mostly from the dip). The bread had no life, was very flat, no crunch, like it was regular grocery store bread. For a bakery place, I'd expect the bread to be somewhat better. This is our new favorite bakery. I had picked up cakes for birthday's a couple times before but hadn't tried the rest of their items. I stopped recently to pick up lunch, added a few more items to my order and loved them all. The first time I went there this week I got the BLT sandwich, Ham & Swiss quiche, Spinach, Swiss & Onion quiche, Cheddar cheese & onion scone, and slices of the Signature Chocolate and White chocolate cheesecake. Princess cake- is one of their famous cakes and it sure lives up to the hype. Soft layers of sponge cake between layers of Bavarian cream and raspberry jam enveloped in thin soft marzipan, makes this a stand out piece.
