The food has consistently gone downhill. I had a few bad experiences over the past year but decided to give it another go for a takeout order. Bad decision. $40 for a Cobb Salad and chicken wings. We were seated promptly and had great service from our waitress. The menu had great options for our family of five, including kids. We ordered the seafood stuffed shrimp, blackened walleye, loaded Mac n cheese and a pizza for the kids to split. The food came out quickly and everything was delicious. We try to avoid "typical" restaurants while traveling and loved the unique options on the menu. Was thrilled to discover they had a "gluten-free menu", only to later discover that the meal I was eating wasn't gluten-free at all. I specifically ordered off the GF menu - asked for the barbecue sampler from that menu - then questioned, after I"d eaten most of the shrimp what they coat their shrimp with. Waitress came back and said shrimp coating contained gluten. Not looking forward to the reaction I can be sure to experience. Husband ordered mile-high "hand-cut" ribeye, and 25 - 30% was fat and gristle. What wasn't fat and gristle was the toughest, chewiest ribeye he's eaten, in memory. We will NOT go back. read more

My wife and I went here for dinner on a Saturday and it was super tasty! They have an extensive drink list. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we came back the next day for the Sunday brunch which was nothing short of amazing! Holy deserts and every other kind of food you could want! I get it, you have an area monopoly, but for a dang omelette... then, the waitstaff doesn't allow you to get a box and gives you a bad look when you get a lot of food. While I have frequented this place many times and have always enjoyed the food especially the Sunday brunch I am really disapointed in the new prime beef. They charge a high price and the portion of the New York strip is less than a 1/2 inch thick.I ordered it medium rare and it was a bit over done. Bring back the choice beef and give me a slice of beef that is worth it. As far as the difference in tenderness between the prime and choice there was virtually none. read more

All I can say is what an amazing restaurant the Hofbrau truly is. My wife and I had a concert to go to at the Interlochen Arts academy and we looked for restaurants that were close by the venue and we came across the Hofbrau. We arrived at the Hofbrau at 6pm and the concert was at 8pm, leaving us plenty of time. I mean after all it's July and it was a Saturday night and we assumed a lot of others attending the concert would get a bite at the Hofbrau so who wouldn't plan ahead and leave a little early?? We were greeted with HUGE smiles from their host. They got us to a table almost immediately. When I opened the menu I was pleased that I wouldn't be eating sauerkraut and Currywurst. The Hofbrau has an amazing menu. You can get anything from snow crab to the worlds biggest burrito to an Italian sandwich. I got the snow crab which melted in my mouth and my wifey got the mile high ribeye which was cooked to perfection. I wish I remembered our servers name It might of been Rose or Rene...Regardless she had a smile that would light up the coldest day in February. She was prompt, respectful and knowledgable and never once showed she was frustrated or annoyed which is amazing because towards the end of our meal the folks that didn't plan and give themselves extra time for dinner (during a July dinner rush on a Saturday night before a concert) got to the restaurant 30 minutes until the concert and basically took it out on our server. The Hofbrau is full of professionals and you can tell the staff all gets along with each other because they work as a team and even stopped during the rush to sing "Happy Birthday" to a patron. Oh by the way...They have 52 beers on draft and we were greeted by the owner, Brian which is rare these days to see the owner in the eye of the storm and boy! what a nice guy he is and he sure built a great team around him. Will be back next summer! Thank you team Hofbrau and I always like to leave one thing that the place we visited could change or do different well we would like to see more adult ice cream drinks, mostly for summer time. Impressed by the skill at the grill. We had pork chops (with asparagus) and the house burger. The large 1/2# burger was medium and cooked to perfection all the way through, wonderfully juicy. The pork chop had a wonderful apple cider-brown sugar-balsamic marinade and was also cooked to perfection. The baked potato and grilled asparagus perfectly complemented the chops. Service was acceptable. The building did have a maze-like quality that made a trip to the restroom a little more complicated. Timing of the food arrival was good. read more

Great place. We had a great experience. We camped at the state park, so this was right around the corner. We love trying new beers and finding good food. The ambviance waa great. Log cabin wood tables kind of feel. Not contemporary. But very very nice. First the beer. 52 taps! Amazing selection. Clean lines good carbonation. We sat at the bar and our bartender Ray was top notch. Knew the beers. Conversed with us. Very friendly. Just a nice laid back guy who is a pro at his job. Tip this guy well! He deserves it. We ordered flights and tried many varieties of Michigan beers. Food was good. No complaints really. I ordered the turkey bacon sandwich. Bun was beautifully carmolized, turkey was great, nice amount of bacon/cheese, and a good roll. Fries were perfect. This is the best place around here. They have an amazing craft beer selection and a great menu. The crab and artichoke dip is great, very creamy. The mango salmon is a favorite as well. The staff is always friendly and willing to talk to you. They have a full bar and the bartender is always willing to try to make what you want. The have half of Tuesdays in the winter which is nice. There can be a bit of a wait for dinner since it is very very popular but its worth the wait. On game night they play the games on the large screen TVs that are spread across the restaurant. Great place for a night out. I don't recommend it for children as it can be loud. read more

Absolutely love this place! The only place in Grand Traverse county that you can play trivia boards. The menu is extensive, definitely something for everyone. The nightly specials are ridiculous; cheap A$$ steak night on Mondays for $7.99, prime rib Tuesdays offering a 24 oz. cut for $14.99, smaller cuts for far less. Staff is superb. Sunday brunch is the best in Northern Michigan. Pair all that with a down-home feel and a nice drive out of town and you have one of the best eateries in Traverse City. read more

The food is overpriced, the drink prices are downright insane, and the worst part was 5 minutes after I ordered my food the Karaoke started. Horrible food. We were really hoping this would be good food after reading some of the reviews on a different site. All three couples ordered nachos, ours we ordered the side of guacamole. The chips in the nachos were horrid...so stale they couldn't be cut with a knife. After having to press the issue management offered us a 20% discount. We couldn't even eat half the nachos they were so bad. The guacamole was totally flavorless. In the upside,the Pina colada made with Moomers Ice cream was awesome. read more

Cute place, nice on tap beer selection - over 52, staff were friendly and helpful. It is right off the road in a convenient location right down from the Interlochen Art Center. Chicken lettuce wraps were delicious! The steak was cooked to perfection, but lacked in flavor. I was missing seasoning, so it left something to be desired. This is hands down my favorite place for Sunday brunch, the price and wait are so worth it. I love the staff, the atmosphere and the selection. What can I say.... This place had it's moment, that moment's gone. Cutting to the chase. Here's my bullet points: - Expect to wait over 2 hours before you finally eat. - The menu has NO GERMAN dishes. Don't let the name fool you. - The food is gross. Over priced. Expect everything to be subpar. - Wait staff, and management's attitude hasn't changed... Don't let that impress you... That's absolutely not a good thing. Terrible experience. - If you get the 'pleasure' of walking past the opening to the kitchen... Notice how close the food prep is to the overflowing trashcans. It's disgusting. - They have rodent issues...unresolved. I'd never expected the greedy, cheap management to ever take actual action into resolving that either. Final Word: This place capitalizes on location. That's all they have. Slim local competition given location. My suggestion...after really having the pleasure of observing this establishment inside and out... Take your wallets to Boones or Maddie's Tavern.
