We are so sad to say that we've had a very poor experience at Buds. We are here camping with family and were looking forward to our breakfast at Bud's as we enjoyed them so much last year. We arrived at 9 am on a Sunday morning, only one other table in the restaurant waiting for their order. Our family members ordered their food, and then our order followed - all went in all by 9:10 am. 5 meals total. The place began to fill up, and soon it was packed. Our family received their food about 15 minutes after. Their breakfast was 2 of the 'Bud's Breakfast' - two eggs, ham + toast, they said it was not hot, seemed like it had been sitting for a bit. We thought our food would be close behind, a meat skillet, a buds breaky, and pancakes for my 3 year old twins...but unfortunately at 9:57 I finally went up there to ask how much longer it would be as our family had already finished their food. The staff said just a few minutes more. At 10:05 my husband walked up and could see all of our food sitting in the window, ready, without any efforts to begin bringing it out to us. We decided we'd rather leave than eat a cold breakfast almost an hour after placing our order. My husband requested a refund, which they first said "oh we can bring out your order" to which we insisted on just refunding us. The staff member refunding our order was understanding, and didn't try to push further, although we found everyone did just brush it off by saying 'we're really busy' and we were trying to be understanding; but we arrived before the rush. I respectfully expressed our frustrations, as my 3-year-olds began getting hangry (and honestly, I was feeling hangry too, mom-snack-stash to the rescue!) as this was not the way we hoped to end our family vacation. So we left with empty stomachs, major disappointment, and crying children. We loved the atmosphere so much, they have fun games on the back wall that kept us entertained. We were just hoping for a fun experience as a family, but it just didn't deliver. Truly a bummer! read more

We had a fabulous breakfast experience at Bud's. Based on other Yelp reviews, our expectations were rather low. We choose Bud's because it opens at 7:00 am, has hot coffee and a diverse breakfast menu and is close to Interlochen State Park, where we are rustic camping. What a delightful surprise! This cafe is beautiful and so comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The photos capture the beauty. From overall decor to the details, it is a very welcoming environment. With seating indoor and outside, there is ample room to spread out and stay a while. These are qualities of a "gathering place" that set it aside from an average restaurant. The staff were friendly albeit laid back. Their speed of work took second place to friendliness. The menu has great looking options for entrees and snacks for all times of day. Prices are fair. We found the portion size of our skillet to be filling but on the small size compared to other places. Our veggie skillet was well cooked, had lots of veggies and was delicious. Coffee was fresh and tasty. We also had a pecan roll. Staff heated it and it was perfect. We plan to make this cafe our morning stop for the week. Came in this morning for a quick breakfast. Nice wood cabin ambience with fishing/hunting motif. Great coffee and quick service. Had two eggs over easy done just right with hash browns/veggies underneath and a cup of coffee. Simple but good. Cinnamon french toast was also good. Prices are reasonable given its proximity to Interlochen and all the parents/tourists who come through this way, service is friendly, and food was decent and delivered promptly. As much as we've gotten bud's, today was my first time eating in and I loved it. We ordered at the counter, paid, got our coffees and headed outside for a table. The veggie skillet I ordered with poached eggs was great, and the perfect amount of food. I also got a banana bar to go which was phenomenal. We were visiting the area and stopped by for lunch. We had a decent lunch here...ordered sandwiches and salads. Nothing super special, but acceptable. I went back to order a coffee. After ordering one coffee, the screen prompted to leave a tip. Okay, I can do that for good barista service. I gave the tip and swiped my card. Then...I was handed an empty paper cup and told to get my own coffee from a carafe across the room. The carafe was nearly empty and the coffee lukewarm, so I went back to the counter to let them know. He just said "it hasn't been filled for a while". Didn't offer to fill it or get me hot coffee. I had a croissant with egg salad. Seasonal lattes are delicious, mine has maple flavoring. I ordered a ranger cookie for the evening. Ranger cookies are tasty. Bud's closes at 2pm, closed a couple days per week, check before you go. Cheers! read more

Thought this would just be an ice cream and coffee place, but they had a lot of lunch options -rubens, egg salad, chop salad, pannini. Cozy booths inside or enjoy seating under cover outdoors. Due to the many options, the ordering required some patience, but food was delivered quickly. Friend loved his turkey sandwich. I had a hot Italian wrap, grilled just enough to warm up the ingredients inside. read more

If you want good food, do come here! If you want good service, among the best! If you want the cook to get the 2 eggs over easy, bacon with sourdough toast to you in under 45 minutes, go to any other restaurant. I have been to Bud's over 100 times in my summers teaching up this way...all ask is reasonable a wait time. read more

Usually have decent service here, but today we went in and waited 50 minutes for two simple sandwiches, one cold. Staff was nice, but the food was not worth the wait. Coffee was good, but would recommend not listening to the "wait time" on the board behind the register, as it said 15 minutes. Ever since I moved to Interlochen I've been a huge fan of Bud's. On Thursday nights you can listen to the amazingly talented Jim Hawley play in the evening, and on Wednesdays you get a free donut with your coffee. The food is outstanding; I hate having to choose between my favorite margarita flatbed pizza or a honey ham and Swiss panini. Dessert? Ice cream, frozen custard, or a selection of pastries and homemade cakes. The coffee is some of the best in the area. The staff are friendly, courteous, and timely in getting your food out to you. My favorite place to eat and hang out since I moved to the area. If you stop by on Thursday night, my housemate and I are the ones playing Gin Rummy and singing along with Jim. read more

So much high hope for this place. We came on a weekday early afternoon during the end of summer. The place was completely empty. 1. Staff was rude. This is important to me in the food business. My family and I were made to feel like we were inconveniencing them. 2. Usually poorly trained staff can be overcome with excellent food. When the food is 50/50 it's hard to overcome first impressions. Especially at the expensive priced food. I would have given two stars but the place looked nice inside. We ordered: the pizza- good Chicken wrap - good Salad- not good, rubbery. Trekker w/soup-ok but good with soup Chili- ok Buds chicken salad- not good, Bland. The food was adequate at best and largely wouldn't have left a review as it was not a memorable experience. It could have been amazing and I guess I was mostly upset that I brought the kids up for afternoon lunch and some device time and well they advertise WiFi and it just didn't work. We followed their instructions and even elevated to the supervisor and nothing. I'm leaving this review in a hope that management/owners will see what's going on day to day and conduct some retraining to make this a great place. read more

Food was ok, however we waited 1 hr 15 mins for our food (eggs and pancakes). The place was very well staffed (2 employees working registers, and I could see 4 people working in the kitchen) so the wait was definitely not because they were short staffed. Used to really enjoy this place. It's been awhile since I've been here---total disappointment this afternoon. I went in and ordered a greek salad. Waited 35 minutes and finally asked about my order as people who had gotten there after me were getting food. Finally, they come out with a pre-packaged salad----most likely prepackaged a while ago as the lettuce and tomatoes were soggy. It was side salad size. For $13 (with no protein) can a salad not be fresh and on a plate? I should also mention it wasn't very crowded. If you want to wait 45 minutes for a pre-made salad in a to go container with a plastic for, this is your place. For me, I won't be back. read more

I just had the pork and cabbage soup! OMG! It is wonderful! The chef/cook/baker is an asset to the business. Need more experiments in gluten-free goodies. I've had the lunch menu and it's decent but today I went at 9am so you could only have breakfast and my god is it awful. It took 45 mins for a breakfast sandwich and a ranchero wrap that was so bad I couldn't even eat it. No flavor and dry eggs. There was maybe 12 people in the entire building so I'm confused why it took 45 mins..like what are you guys doing in the kitchen?? I love the atmosphere and the place but way to relaxed and slow when it comes to service..and the breakfast is sooo bad. read more

Bud's is my favorite place to eat breakfast. It's not too big, not crowded, the food is great, and the staff is attentive and friendly. I'm a regular. Prices are very reasonable. You'll leave with a happy tummy and a happy wallet. read more

Bud's saved our camping trip!! In the span of 24 hours, my husband and I visited twice - once for dinner (we both had bacon burgers and they were delicious) and the next morning for our pre-campfire donuts and coffee. It's tough bolstering morale over a rainy 40-something degree weekend in a tent, but the warm, cozy atmosphere at Bud's seriously made it so worth it!! We couldn't stop talking about how cozy this place is- between the fireplace, the locally inspired antique decor and the little front gift shop area, we felt right at home . Have been going to Bud's for about 7 or 8 years now. They've always been a little on the slow side to get your food. I understand a 20-30 minute wait after you order if they're busy. Ordered on Monday July 3 and after I paid I was told about an hour wait. Waited 70 minutes and still did not get our food. I went in and asked how much longer and was told at least another half an hour. Not sure what the issue was today but waiting almost two hours for Buds is not acceptable. Likely not returning, which is sad because I used to love this place. read more

When you're a summer staffer at Interlochen, this is the place you go when you are hoping to get away from camp. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It can be a lovely respite from the chaos of camp, where you can sit and quietly read a book with a cup of tea, or it can be jam-packed full of students, counselors, and staff. I haven't had a full meal here, but my usual order is an iced soy chai latte. They use a boxed mix (I believe it's Oregon Chai) and the strength varies depending on the barista. However, they do always have soymilk, which is not the case in other local cafes. The cookies are good, as are the scones, but I try not to over-indulge since I'm already getting quite the bombardment of sugar and fat at the Interlochen cafeteria. On my last trip I also tried a scoop of the raspberry pomegranate sorbet, which was a good sized portion and great on a warm summer night. read more

We placed an order for pick up and were told it Would be ready in 15 minutes. It took 50 minutes. After we finally got our burgers, our sides were missing and we had to go back and get the cole slaw and chips. No apology was given by staff. 40 minute wait for basic breakfast that can be prepared in 2 minutes. Horrifically mismanaged. Witnessed a customer drive off while the employee who was supposed to be tending the drive thru was busy outside petting someone's dog. The cook is either entirely untrained or thinks it's acceptable to only make one order at a time - slowly. I'll give Bud's another shot next year if it doesn't go out of business. Train the cook and at least one other person who can jump in and help prepare food orders during a rush (which was only 10 seated tables). The sign next to the door asks people to be patient and kind. Patience is 15-20 minutes, not 40+. Expecting people to wait that long is disrespectful. read more

WE LOVE BUD's! Every summer my high school's band comes up to Interlochen for a week of camp, and Buds is a hangout favorite for all the staff. We come here every chance we get because: 1. The food tastes amazing. There are a variety of options including ice cream/floats/soda shoppe items, fresh donuts, sandwiches, Reuben's, paninis, soup, gigantic pastries, and breakfast served until 11. 2. It's cheap. I always go for the corned beef breakfast skillet, which only costs $6.99. It is the perfect portion size for me (just enough but not too stuffing). Coffee and other drinks are also very reasonably priced. 3. It's spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating. 4. Customer service. Facilities (e.g. Bathrooms, floors, general ambience) are extremely clean. Food is brought out promptly (within 5-10 min of ordering) and the staff are very kind. Buds is an Interlochen gem! If you are ever in the Traverse City area you must give it a try. read more
