We went to Moomers on our trip to northern Michigan. Moomers is an ice cream place located on a farm west of Traverse City. The ice cream was rich and was nice potions. We had Cherries Moobilee. It had plenty of cherries, chunks of brownie, with a chocolate swirl. We had a small, but it was very generous. There were a variety of favors. I wish I had room for more. There were a few tables indoors and outdoor seating at picnic tables on a deck overlooking the farm. The service was quick, and workers were helpful. You may have to seek it out, but it is worth the effort. I would definitely recommend Moomers. read more

This place was right on the farm. Besides just regular ice cream, they had sundaes, floats, flurries, old fashioned sodas, etc. There were plenty of choices to choose from. The lengthy line moved quickly with an efficient process by the staff. An ice cream flight ($10?) was ordered. Five flavors were chosen. Each was about half a scoop I would say. The flavors I tried are below. Most of the ice cream was fulfilling, but not as creamy as I would have thought being homemade. Black Cherry - This was black cherry ice cream with pieces of Michigan cherry pieces. This was plain and did not really taste like anything except for the cherry pieces. Cherries Moobilee - This was black cherry ice cream with chocolate fudge swirl, brownie chunks, and black cherry chunks. Again, the ice cream was plain, but the pieces of everything else helped overcome that a little bit. Cherry Pie a La Mode - This was vanilla ice cream with cherry swirl and pie pieces. This was my favorite. The cherry swirl combined with the small pie pieces made for an appealing treat. Butter Pecan - This again just lacked flavor besides the pecan pieces. Lemon Raspberry - This was lemon ice cream with a raspberry swirl. This was just not good at all. The lemon did not taste like lemon at all, and there was hardly any raspberry. My family was recently in the Traverse City area for vacation and our rental happened to be a mile away from Moomers which ended up being both good and bad. Good because the ice cream was fantastic but bad because we went every single day and I've never eaten so much ice cream in such a short period of time . Moomers is a local homemade ice cream spot next to their dairy farm a little off the beaten path. Their website lists all of their flavors (and there are many) but when you arrive there's a daily menu of what is available. Every flavor I tried was delicious and chock full of the goodies they add in. They highlight their Cherries Moobilee which is a black cherry ice cream with chocolate swirl a black cherries. They also have some sorbet options if you're non dairy and some unique sundaes on their menu as well. When you enter the store you immediately smell the homemade waffle cones and you're likely to see a line, maybe even out the door. But their service is friendly and efficient and they do a great job of moving people through fast! There's a few booths indoors to sit at but the patio is a real gem on a summer day with plenty of picnic tables and a view of the farm next door. Definitely stop in and give them a try! For being ranked the best in the country, we were very disappointed in Moomers. We got a flight with five flavors, one of the flavors - Moobilee was very icy and not creamy at all, raspberry chocolate chip lacked flavor, the caramel sea salt was creamy and had a good flavor and was one of the better flavors, Oreo cheesecake was okay good for mix ins, and Samooa was probably the best. Really great ice cream spot 15 min from traverse city! There was a line when we got there Friday at 3pm but it moved fast. I got the cherry cheesecake and cherry moobilee, both of which were amazing! Voted the BEST by so many for so long...for good reason! This particular location made the experience of trying Moomers for the first time memorable and beautiful. The seating outside amongst the dairy farm is gorgeous. Some tips from a first timer things I didn't know walking in, they will give samples but they don't seem to want to advertise that. They do have a flight which is cool but what I didn't know is that the 5 cups they use for it are TINY, not worth the $12 in my opinion so I skipped that even though that's what I wanted when I walked in. They take good care of you when you tell them about an allergy, with separate scoops and separate ice cream in the back. You can get 2 flavors for any size scoop even the small. ALL the ice cream I tried was incredible and seriously rivaled Blue Bell which was a shock for these Texans! Nothing usually even comes close. I highly recommend stopping by Moomers for a special treat and especially this location, just beautiful. read more

Moomers is definitely a must stop place when traveling to or near TC. The lines are long, yes. However, they go pretty quick. Service is friendly and fast! I was so excited to get the ice cream flight and appreciated that they came in little sample cups. It can be pretty costly for 5 little cups, but I love that I can try multiple flavors. My favorite was the coffee toffee and spookie and cream (they use orange oreos). My parents got the butter pecan which was delicious. We also got Praline and cream from Tom's the night before and that was also delicious! Hubs got superman, which was one of the better tasting ones I've had in Michigan. The shop is set right on a farm, and they have a beautiful outdoor seating area that wraps all the way around the building. While enjoying your ice cream, you can even watch the cows in the pasture, which makes the whole experience so unique and fun. When we arrived, the line was wrapped around the store, which immediately told me it was worth the wait. And we were right. My husband said it was the best ice cream he has ever had in his life. Stopped in for ice cream on Friday afternoon. The classic ice cream shop was already getting busy for the holiday weekend but was very well taken care of and clean. We did the banana bread, double chocolate flake, butter pecan, cherries moobile and strawberry. All flavors were true to themselves but I do think the cherry flavor could've used even more cherries. I definitely thought it was worth it for the price. We ate and enjoyed it outside overlooking the farm and cows. The strawberry flavor was so simple and perfect. We're still talking about it weeks later. I'd definitely return and check out more of their revolving and new flavors, as I do feel like they had "easy" flavors since there were so many people and they had a sundae special going. We went to Moomers, the most recommended ice cream place in Traverse City, on an evening during the weekend. The line was quite deep at the time, going out the door and wrapping around the building. The line does move at a fair clip, but it took 20 minutes for us to get to the front. Moomers lists their flavors online but for some reason they decide to omit the ingredients. A lot of customers had to review the more detailed labeled in the freezer, which added to the wait time. Large ($5.45) - The large comes with two scoops of your choice. We went with the Butter Pecan and Pralines & Cream. The Butter Pecan is pretty rich and dense with a fantastic butter flavor and balanced sweetness. There are plenty of pecan pieces strewn throughout and they manage to maintain a bit of crunch even when soaked in all that cream (4/5). The Pralines & Cream is mixed with a caramel swirl that makes the ice cream a bit too sweet. Both flavors are a little on the stretchy and gummy side, like they added stabilizers or other ingredients, and makes the ice cream stick on the palette (3/5). Moomers has some good ice cream, but I feel like they've perhaps commercialized a bit too much and adulterate their ice cream a bit to keep up with the volume. While Moomers doesn't have the best ice cream around, ice cream is ice cream, and they're still worth visiting for a sweet treat.
