The atmosphere here does have a homey feel to it. I just wished it had more matched it's name and have a cottagey feel to it. That being picky though, the place feels welcoming and is brightly lit and feels well cared for. I ordered the Pot Roast ($20). It's described as slow roasted with carrots and onions and mashed potatoes. It was fantastic. The meat was tender and delicious. the gravy was perfect without overpowering. The carrots and onions were a great compliment. Plus the real mashed potatoes were made to perfection. Smooth, yet still had the potatoness to the texture. The taste was one of the better mashed potatoes I've had in TC. I don't know what they do th their TC Cherry Coke, but it is spectacular. Lastly for dessert I got their Lava Cake ($7), it was fine, but disappointing after such a great meal. I don't know if it was from frozen or what. However the texture was a little off andvthe taste was only okay. I wouldn't get it again. The service was very friendly and super helpful. Overall a 4 1/2 star review. Since I have to round, I'm going to forgive the dessert and give a full 5 stars. Would I return? Absolutely. Especially if I'm craving Pot Roast. read more

Wow! We arrived around 7 PM and with a large party. They gladly welcomed us, got us a table put together, and served us some delicious food. It was grandpas birthday so we sang to him and they covered the ticket for him and grandma. Delicious food with breakfast served all day. This restaurant was close to our hotel and we are glad we gave it a try. It's a cute family owned restaurant. The staff was friendly. Our server was great and refilled our coffee and water with out having to ask. My husband got the western omelette and it was huge. He said it was very good. He thought the hash browns were cooked just right. I had rye toast, the cottage potatoes and a pancake. Everything was delicious. We definitely over ate. But it was so good. The Cottage Cafe no longer takes to go / take out orders. For over a week, during various open hours, I have called and attempted to get a to go / pick up. They rarely answer their phones, and each time I​ have by chance had the call answered, the response was rough,stating no take out orders being accepted, and then they just hung up the call. Good to know that customers come last, and that to expect the phone ro not be answered, or to be addressed rudely. In town on vacation checking out different breakfast places. The decor was kinda like old school diner. Out server was friendly and took our order in a timely manner. My Wife ordered the Benny and I ordered a Ham and Cheese Omelet. The Benny came with a slice of ham that the Mrs didn't care so much for. My omelet was just OK. After a long day at the beach we decided to run back to our hotel and grab a change of clothes, but after getting changed we didnt really want to go far. Luckily this place was right next to our hotel so we took a gamble and stopped by without looking it up and were pleasantly surprised. The Cottage has become a beloved, must-stop for me and my husband whenever we visit Traverse City. The staff is extremely friendly, and the food overall is amazing! Today, I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy Combo, which came with two eggs. The gravy is handmade each day. It is rich and flavorful, while the biscuits are baked to perfection. Yum! My husband ordered the Meat Lovers Omelete, which came with hashbrowns and pancakes. Because we wanted to sample everyone, we split up our dishes a little. The hashbrowns are both tender and crispy, just as I like, and the pancakes are truly the best pandora I've ever tasted. The restaurant overall has a hometown feel, which is really nice. My friends and I decided to go on a camping trip before they left for college, in our drive up we stopped at the cottage for lunch. The atmosphere was very cute, but we waited about 7 minutes to be seated, I got a chicken sandwich with an upgrade of onion rings and a side of ranch, as well as a traverse city cherry coke, to begin: my coke was small (especially for $5) with a very artificial medicine tasting cherry syrup. We waited a while for our food and when we received it, the contents of my sandwich were all sliding off the bun, and my onion rings were undercooked as well as included a cold, frozen fry (for some reason???) I work in a kitchen, and sometimes I do the fryer, so I was very confused as to how that even happened. I asked for ranch twice, and still didn't receive my ranch. Our server barely came over to check, and when she came to give us our bills, they were split incorrectly, we asked her to fix them, and even when fixed they were still incorrect. When we left, we found our server vaping in the parking lot, right in front of the customers. I was very unhappy with my service, and I will not be coming back. read more

We ate here for dinner twice during a trip to Traverse City. We were seated immediately. It truly is cozy! Our server, Azure, was incredibly friendly. Maps are posted on the entry walls and you can place a pin on your place of origin. Visitors come from all over the world, as well as nationally. The pot roast was tender and flavorful with hand mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables, the Philly chicken sandwich and the hamburger were really large. They serve half a plateful of onion rings. First morning breakfast in Traverse City. We arrived shortly after 9 which was perfect as we were able to get seated immediately. Pretty large seating area spilt into two sides of the establishment. My favorite was the fireplace at the entrance. Or server was on top of everything, kept drinks full, and had great menu recommendations. I had the western omlette with black cherry pancakes. I asked Shane, our server about the Perch Lunch Basket l. He said it was 3 pieces of Perch with the Fries and Slaw and it was a good portion. He was right. I guess I was hungry because I ate before I took a picture of my dinner. Here's my husband's second helping of fish; and he still has more than half of his fries left. Food is fantastic! Yes, all the fish you care to eat all day every day! Try the baked sweet potato as it too is delicious. And they brought a hot baked cinnamon roll along with our meal. And a woman was rushing around busily trying to make things work, but there was a very long wait, with little communication.
