Quiet time for early morning breakfast
    Stuart L.

I enjoyed visits that I have made, once with friends and once by myself. I am a big fan of breakfast food, so there are lots of choices on the menu for me. And I am a fan of chai. Good food and super nice people. My only "dislikes" are the wait times in the summer time (post-COVID is hard for almost every establishment) and that the syrup bottles aren't always cleaned. Mine was stuck to the table this morning. I am sure that there will be many more visits.

This is a cute little restaurant that has a view of Crystal Lake that we found on our way to Sleeping Bear Dunes. It is clean and has a nice atmosphere. The food is good, and staff is friendly. They have had to transition to a cafeteria style concept - you order your food and pay for it at the register, then pick it up when it's ready, then clean off your table when you are done - because of staffing shortages. It's a shame that Covid has bred such widespread laziness amongst the available workforce. To the credit of the staff - they were pleasant and polite despite the understaffing. Stop by and give them your business.

Loaded breakfast skillet and sleeping bear latte

This small town cafe was a great fix for us! We stopped on our way to sleeping bear dunes for breakfast. We both ordered their breakfast skillet, and it was delicious! Crispy potatoes and plenty of bacon, ham, and sausage. Coffee was okay, very sweet, but did the trick and a reasonable price. We only notched it down a star because the pancakes were rubbery (definitely a cheap mix) and you should expect to wait 30 minutes for food due to low staffing. We recommend going early!

This cute little diner is perfect. I always get breakfast at any hour. Today we ordered pancakes with bacon, a cheeseburger, and the breakfast burrito. My pancakes were delicious: soft on the inside and just a little crisp on the outside and edges. We had two specialty coffees which were good. Restaurant had dishes on table and was a little frantic. Our server is super sweet. Despite the sign in the front saying food would take 30-45 min, we got ours in about 15. This little spot is perfectly located for shopping and beach access. The walk up window is also convenient for grabbing coffee or ice cream. Prepare to park on the street or in the public parking lot.

Our extended family has a cottage in the Crystal Lake. The family has been coming up here for the last 50 years or so. We were up here from the Kalamazoo area for a weekend after the 4th of July. We stopped in town for the Art Fair and got hungry after walking around. We were surprised to find the place had changed names but still was a small town restaurant. We saw a sign on the door about an expected wait during busy hours but not being in a rush we went in anyway. We were promptly seated and the table cleared. It was pretty busy as most of the tables were filled. Our order was taken and we simply enjoyed our conversation. Sure enough about a 1/2 later our order came just as we ordered them. Everyone was happy with their meal. I really enjoyed the hash browns being thin and crispy. Done all the way through with that great crunch. The eggs and toast were good too. All in all a pleasant experience and good tasting food. There was a 4 page menu with plenty to choose from if you were in the mood. The only reason I gave a 4 star rating was we really didn't have anything out of the ordinary so I can't comment on the other harder to makes dishes. It's pretty had to screw up this kind of breakfast!

Cool place but the food was kind of mediocre really. Didn't get much satisfaction from the omelet I got. Great coffee though!

We were told as we ordered that they only serve breakfast on Sundays. They took our beverage order quickly and brought the coffee and water equally as quickly. We ordered the Hungry Mans Breakfast (3 eggs, bacon sausage, hash browns and toast) and House Made Hash & Eggs (2 eggs, corned beef has and toast) (same as the past 2 years) - you just don't mess with perfection. We ordered eggs overeasy. They brought us a treat of a small cup of homemade strawberry jam for our thick cut fresh sourdough toast - this was a new addition this year (the jam) and we enjoyed it. Nothing is particularly greasy but everything is cooked to perfection. This is one of those places that just makes the quintessential breakfast (or breakfast for lunch). You will leave feel satisfied and happy. July 2023 Amazing find! Last year we stopped to get brunch as we were starving and there aren't many choices along this stretch of road. We would come here on a regular basis if we could. There are a lot of locals but they are equally as nice to out of towners. So this year on our drive, we remembered their food and made a point to stop for a late breakfast. In particular, we recalled their delicious corn beef hash and ordered it again! We ordered the Hungry Mans Breakfast (3 eggs, bacon sausage, hash browns and toast) and House Made Hash & Eggs (2 eggs, corned beef has and toast) (same as last year). We ordered eggs overeasy. The staff is attentive and ensure your coffee and water cups are full without asking. This is one of those places that just makes the perfect breakfast (or breakfast for lunch). You will leave feel satisfied and happy. Note: while they have picnic tables outside they do not serve food outside.

I recently commented on a $15.00 breakfast at Chef Jarod's and Company that is literally less than 30 second drive and 2 minute walk from each other. Much like the small, quaint little places of yesteryear. Typical diner decorations, typical diner servers, and typical diner patrons. This was textbook. It was super busy when I got there, but by the time I left there was probably a 10-15 minute wait at the door. But you know these breakfast places keep takin' 'em in and puttin' 'em out. Since I absolutely despise anything where all my breakfast foods are mushed together (pizzas, burritos, omelets, scrambles, hitches, macros, and fizzles), I opted for the more traditional route of "food on a plate, maybe touching a little bit." It's kind of like the difference between kissing cousins and married cousins. This episode of breakfast will be brought to you by: chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, American potatoes, bacon, and toast. Special guest, chocolate milk. I'm a little trollop for chicken fried steak. Or really anything fried with a layer of gravy. This one wasn't bad. Had decent flavor, gravy portioning was good. I would welcome it back like a close friend. The eggs were good as well. Since my body can only consume scrambled eggs, anytime they aren't runny or have that weird cooked-too-long skin on them is a win in my book. I would embrace them again like a long lost relative. The American potatoes (or how I always have to ask for them because I can never remember the name "those little potatoes that are chunks"), were good with the ketchup. Cooked the way they were supposed to be. I would sit next to them again on a bus. The bacon. Oh, the bacon. If you're a breakfast place and serve bacon, this will make you or break you in my eyes. The hardest thing I have ever found so far are restaurants that claim to know how to do floppy bacon. Limp bacon. Soggy bacon. Whatever you want to call it. They always claim they know how, then they bring out bacon I could harpoon a fish with. I want bacon I can tie together like shoelaces. Sadly, this bacon missed the mark. I would turn this bacon away at the door. Ultimately, it was a breakfast place. It did what it set out to do. Chocolate milk 10/10 Made up breakfast foods 3/3 Flaccid bacon 5/10
