Amazing customer service, the people working here today were so sweet and helped me figure out what to order! I got a 16oz Matcha Tea Oat milk Latte with vanilla and lavender syrup added, the matcha wasn't strong which was a bummer but you can taste the vanilla and lavender! I also got an avocado & egg breakfast bagel which was good for on the road and very reasonable pricing. Atmosphere is adorable love the plant aesthetic in here and it seems like a great place if you need to do any work. Second day in downtown Frankfurt we tried to is cafe. The feel was very relaxed and the store is well decorated. Ambiance is a five. The two teen employees were working well. The feel is definitely " vacation mode" in terms of speed or lack of, of which we had no problem with. Just don't think of a run in run out place. We Love to support local shops. A year ago during my august stay in Frankfort, this spot was a godsend. But this year... I'm very sad to report that the quality of coffee, especially the espresso, has taken a nosedive. Last year I wrote a glowing review and unfortunately I have to redact it. In 2021 the main barista working here knew her stuff and had a talent for pulling espresso. It was comparable to high end shops elsewhere in Michigan, even edging on Mad Cap status. She was also a great associate to speak to, having a confident kindness. I was excited to return this year and have good coffee locked down for my trip. I walk in, the old barista is gone (I'm curious why but perhaps her skills were better appreciated elsewhere.) So there's some new faces, but I wasn't worried yet. They seemed to have an attitude of competence so I was ready to be impressed again. But the opposite happened, 3 days in a row. First I got an iced latte. The only complaint I had last year was that they didn't shake the espresso in ice before assembling the drink. Most boutique coffee spots have gotten this memo by now. Starbucks marketing has made this technique seem "extra" but it's actually standard, because when you don't shake with ice, you end up with a watered down cup of coffee flavored milk with a few dainty half melted ice cubes on top and a literal *warmth* at the lower end of the cup that you can feel when you pick up the drink. Not ideal. That part hasn't changed at Bella's. So it was 0/1 so far. Fair enough, I thought. I'll just get straight up espresso and make a latte myself to my preference. So the next day I go in and order a quad shot to go. (That's two double shots of straight espresso). I was handed what honestly tasted like a half cup of gas station coffee. This is not an exaggeration. No concentration, no flavor, no aroma, no crema, just intense alkaline bitterness that was somehow at the same time diluted. There was visibly too much liquid in the cup for what was supposed to be a quad espresso. Just completely and utterly wrong. Okay, things happen. Espresso machines are finnicky and difficult to master with consistency. Off day perhaps. I decide I'll give it one more try the next day. And the result was it was just as bad as the day before. I'm trying to think of reasons why this happened. The staff weren't acting like it was their first day. But their tamping pressure looked weak. The beans in the grinder had an inconsistent roast and they looked very mismatched, beyond what a multiple origin blend should yield. Maybe the pull technique was bad. Temperature gauge faulty? Water filter needs changing? Maybe the real question is: do the staff here even realize that there's all these little subtle factors and variables that are all critical to making a half decent shot of espresso? Do they just not have a passion for coffee? That's forgivable if this is just the summer job they were able to get out of necessity and it's just not that important to do good work in. I get it. Maybe it's just that no one has let you know yet that something's wrong. The thing is, when you have a menu with a bunch of sugary specials on it, most tourists are never going to realize they are getting bad espresso. Like I said, it makes me sad to have to write this. But I really don't want someone to read my previous review thinking they'd go here for good coffee and be disappointed and think that I had no idea what I was talking about. The pastries were better than average. That's what 2 stars instead of 1 is for. That and the interior ambience is nice. What a shame :( please start taking coffee seriously again, Bella's. read more

First time going there, Not my favorite. To start off, first of all I ordered an Iced Coffee. The coffee was Luke warm The Ice made my coffee watered-down. the drink was so warm it melted my Whipped cream before i even walked out of the shop.. this place is fabulous. We biked here from Beulah and they accommodated our bikes so they wouldn't get wet. The three cheese grilled sandwich and grilled cheese and pesto sandwich are worth the bike ride!! Refreshing describes the black iced coffee and I hear the coconut latte hits the spot.
